    Hey Staggs, I trust your experience with a question I have. Is anyone in the hunting saddle community setting chain anchors when one sticking? If you know what tree you want to hunt, you could set the anchor the first time you climb with paracord pulled through the chains. When you come back the next time to hunt, just pull your rappel rope up through the chain with your paracord. Your rappel rope will girth hitch the chain and you’ll have a tether that won’t need pushed up the tree as you climb. Coming from sport climbing it seems like it could be a safer way to climb, if you’re consistently climbing the same tree.

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  14 днів тому

      That sounds like what a lot of guys do who want to hunt the same tree over and over again and they just SRT back up the next time around... Never heard of them using a chain anchor, but it makes sense. I personally rarely hunt the same tree back to back, as I'm trying to bounce around and not get patterned by the deer. Even when we think we got in and out clean, the scent footprint we leave behind usually gives us away.

      I've got a pair of Beast minis sitting in my archery room... getting ready to do about a 5-stick comparison of some of the really high-end sticks on the market right now. And I've owned what I consider the best available (EWO Ultralights) for a long time. I still leave them at home because there's just nothing like walking into the woods with 4 lbs while wearing your saddle plus your bow.

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  3 роки тому +2

      I mean, it’s no harder walking up an aider than it is a set of sticks? And if you start sweating by literally hanging in place allowing the rope to support you while you’re pulling the stick up ... well, my guess is you were sweating LONG before the climb on the way to the tree. 😊

    The video of yourself, son and the other dude....I believe his name was Scott.....you've convinced me this WILL be my method of hunting this coming season. Love all your videos, gear tests are relative and to the point. My question to this particular video is "will this style platform be good for all day hunts?" I go in in the morning and I don't come out till dark and my concerns are about standing surface and my feet getting tired. Keep up the great work! Hunt hard and stay safe. Cheers

      Thanks for the kind words; they are much appreciated! Makes doing all these worth it :)
      For an all-day hunt... I'm taking a Trophyline Mission in with me to enable alternate standing, sitting, and moving around way more so than on any other saddle platform. That way, I'd have all the advantages of a hang-on COMBINED with a saddle -- the ultimate "hybrid" setup.

I have another One Stick on its way to my house today that I had built with three 17" steps to play with and see which I like best. • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  3 роки тому +1

      I'd have to have one in my hands to do a fair evaluation; I do like its clean lines, and the cutout for the full-bury amsteel ropes that we all use is a thoughtful touch.
      I'm not so sure about the oversized bottom step, as my thoughts are that's just a place to continue climbing up onto the top platform and a place to hold your aider. Now, the slotted cutouts to slip an aider in and out of is sweet, and perhaps my favorite detail on the product. I myself recently ordered a second complete Ultimate One Stick with a different aider length than my first one... with the Ion, someone could just have a couple or even more aider lengths/step distances and interchange them easily. Admittedly, I ordered a second UOS as a backup too, so it wasn't JUST because I wanted a different aider length; I could just slice the threads on the aider and sew a new one on, but those slots will make it easy to swap out aiders, no doubt.
      The platform is listed at 7X10", which isn't a lot larger than the UP's 5.5X10", which then tapers out to 13.5" with a 2.5" down-angle.
      For me, even the 16 ozs more that the UP comes in over my original UOS is noticeable when carrying it in my hand; I'm not so sure I would want to go up almost two full pounds over what I hunted with last year; that would be about a 50% increase in weight.
      But, again, those are just early thoughts without ever holding the product.

    • @marcusbrogan5663
      @marcusbrogan5663 3 роки тому +1

      Thank you. I should be getting Iowa tag this year and going to 1 stick saddle hunting. I don’t want to spend a day putting up stands and then taking them down. I will be getting the biggest platform so it will be like you said “ hybrid”. I do like that Ion features. But will also be carrying a 5 pound platform. I think a light 1 stick would be a better option.

      @@benclark5373 I'm not sure I said 5 lbs (if I did I misspoke), but certainly a pound or two isn't unreasonable...     • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 роки тому

      Hi Steve, and thanks for the nice words.
      I've actually spent most of the second half of this season hunting off the U.P. It's far more comfortable for longer sits, and I really like the angle built into the front. It has little angles on either side that make fantastic hand grabs to pull yourself up with when making your moves, and offer great leverage points to push off with when navigating around a tree.
      The 11mm rope might not fit ALL the way in the groove, but it will still fit in enough to hold the stick in place to give you both your hands free.
      The Scout won't kick out either if you do decide to use it... I actually hunted off the angled Monarch a bunch at the beginning of this season due to its lighter weight and I was carrying it in by hand. In the latter half of October, I switched to the UP and began strapping it to a tiny backpack that would hold an outer jacket for the colder sits.
      Hope that helps... feel free to follow up with any additional questions!
