It would be really cool if you could do a video about the process of how to get your first horse. Information like, do you find a stable to board at first or do you start looking for horses? That kind of stuff. I see a lot of info on how to find and pick out a good horse, but I'd love a guide on how to get started if you don't have many connections/are just starting out. Thank you!

I came here to ask a similar question! I've recently starting looking at Boarding facilities to determine where to 'put down roots'. I'd love any tips on what to look for and what questions to ask when selecting a boarding facility... and the pros and cons of boarding vs keeping horses on your property (in regards to new owners and for experienced owners).

Don’t forget to quarantine the horse at home for a few weeks. Horse auctions are hotbeds for shipping fever and other communicable illnesses.

The price is not always what you bid, a commission may be on you also. Ask when you register who pays the commission? Has high as 11%. We have alway received help from the staff finding and loading out our purchase.

This is so very good. I watch a good deal of auction videos and now I understand better how they actually work! Now when I listen I will probably understand what's happening in the bidding, thank you! Question if you have time: if you misunderstand and bid higher than intended, and the horse is sold to you, what happens next if you tell the office you made a mistake? Do they keep track of the next highest bidder? Does the owner just take their horse home and try another day? Perhaps I didn't quite understand what you were saying in this section. thanks for the great videos.
If it were me, when the auctioneer says “sold for…” at the end of the bid and I hear the final bid, when the worker goes to hand you the paper, I would tell them!

Hey Carmella! I was hoping that you could help me with this question…..is there any benefit of leasing a horse/pony? For context I have been riding horses for around 2 years but I've been helping with them at the barn for around 4, I can walk trot canter and I've recently started consistently sitting my canter instead of half seat. My average jump is a 2 foot cross rail and my biggest is a 2.2 foot vertical. Is leasing something that would help me extend my riding abilities? I've always been on different horses and I understand the value u gain from all the different temperaments and personalities. I really hope that you see this , I love your content and l've learnt a lot through your videos ❤
There’s definitely value to working with many different horses and learning to work with many different personalities like you said, but there’s also so much value in learning and growing together with one specific horse. Since horse ownership isn’t really a possibility for me right now, I’ve been leasing for a while and it’s great practice for maybe one day owning one or even just improving your skills very quickly. It’s also so fun to see how much progress you make with that one horse as you develop a stronger bond and you work on their skills as well :)
I think leasing is great! It will usually get you more ride time and more experience with horse care. Best of luck!
