    Great video! We grow hay on our property and scythe it down since we don’t have a tractor. We have a small farm. It’s easy exercise and nice even if you have back or hip issues. It just takes a little bit to get the technique down and to be able to safely sharpen the scythe. Then it’s a matter of letting it dry then using a pitchfork to turn it and bundle it up.

      @@CarmellaAbel There are a lot of good videos talking about using a scythe correctly and how to sharpen them. Also recommended companies to get your scythe from. There are some no till gardening channels that feature using a scythe as well. That’s how we came across them.

    Thank you sooo so so much Carmella! My and my mother got our first ever horse. A beautiful, adorable little Gypsy Vanner as a family horse, so the kids and grand kids can learn about horses and care for them. 😄Thanks for the tips and tricks, we realllyyy needed them on getting a new horse. We do the exact hay deal. Our neighbor does the cutting and we get what we need. However we had to completely fence off the 50 acres to keep the horses out of it. ❤

    You're so right that many of us horse people are not price conscious AT ALL!! Something I'd like to get away from is the insanely expensive Farriers Formula supplement for strengthening hoofs. I'm going to research the ingredients and try to get there more cheaply. Great video!

    Any ideas on why?

    I use a lot of „human“ products for my pony. Same ingredients, same stuff, but not a „horse“ brand and a lot cheaper 😂
    You can even use body lotion or olive oil instead of hoof oil. Or apple cider vinegar for hoof care. Mix your own insect repellent, there are loads of recipes out there.
    I use Ikea stuff for storage.

    Also, could you make a video on how to deal with the fear of ridding a spooky horse? I know you had some troubles with Tucker a while ago and I have the same issues. My mare is extremely spooky ( even if my experienced trainer rides her ) and I got so afraid to ride her that I just stopped riding at all, I'm only doing groundwork with her.
    I don't know how to deal with this fear anymore. I want to enjoy spending time with her and riding her and I want her to enjoy it as well.. I love her and I can't imagine my life without her, especially with her history, so many people gave up on her... I don't want to be another person in her life who abandoned her because it got hard.

    Horse supplements are extremely expensive in Poland where I live.
    I asked my vet and it turned out some of them can be exchanged with human ones. For example MSM for horses is 3 times the price of a human one. Same goes for magnesium. In most horse supplements there is a magnesium oxide which absorbs poorly into horses system. Magnesium citrate is way better and 100% magnesium citrate for horses costs 6 times the price of a human one. You just have to correctly calculate the dosage.

    I don't have a horse yet, but I'm working a lot and saving up as much as I can. And this will hopefully help with still having money after getting said horse.
    I have a question for you, by the way. Is it more expensive to BUY a horse, or is it more expensive to OWN a horse? Thanks!

    • @CourtneyBlythe
      @CourtneyBlythe Рік тому

      more expensive to own a horse, you'll have monthly expenses.. hay, feed, farrier, board/livery, insurance, physio, saddler, vet and many more. the upkeep is gonna cost more overtime especially if you keep the horse for life - they can live up and over 30 years! theres many 'monthly cost of a horse' sites, you can use their templates to figure out how much itll cost you as itll vary from location. good luck!

      Tucker is a POA..Pony of America…he is 13.1 hands..tall (I remember her saying this)…..do you need to fly spray your horse ? Depends on the time of year and where you live..I live in Wyoming..and we only need to spray in June, July, august and some of September..and type of horse ..my Morgan has a lot of hair and are less bothered than compared to a thin skinned and sparse hair thoroughbred.
