Great Job girls! Your on the right path of not breaking - but gentling. One motion I will pass along to you. Watch when 2 horses meet for a 1st time. What do they do? They exchange a nose scent inhale/exhale. Try this approach by slowly moving your hand to the horse's nose & exhale on to your hand as you do so. Giving the horse time to sniff your scent. Then advance to petting them - all the while talking to them while you do this. You will find it leads to a quicker bond on their level. In their mind you are not a threat - but a friend who is there to greet them. Repeat it over a period of time. I think you will find how well this works.
