'THE GREAT ESCAPE!' | FULL GAME: EVERTON V WIMBLEDON | 7 MAY 1994

- A miracle in one of our darkest times! The atmosphere at Goodison Park on 7 May 1994 was electric and also a little surreal as Everton survived relegation on the final day of the season with a dramatic comeback against Wimbledon.
The Main Stand was packed, the Gwladys Street was rammed, the Bullens Road was full to the brim, but the Park Stand didn’t exist! It was a three-sided stadium that greeted Everton and Wimbledon for a contest that the Blues simply could not lose. Just one win from the previous 10 Premier League fixtures had left Everton on the cusp of relegation for only the third time in the Club’s history.
The Blues began the match in the bottom three, a single point behind Southampton, Sheffield United and Ipswich Town, and one ahead of Joe Royle’s Oldham Athletic. There were too many permutations to contemplate so Mike Walker’s team simply had to win.
Wimbledon, by contrast, were flying high in sixth position and were looking for a win to cement their highest ever Premier League finish.
And if you want to experience that rollercoaster day - or put yourself through it all over again - tune in from 7pm BST on Saturday 9 May 2020 to watch along with fellow Blues and talk it over in the live chat!

Got in to the top balcony when I never thought I would, never forget that game

Please keep more of these games coming. Working from home flies when I've got the blue boys on the tv.
Wimbledon with Fred & Matic in midfield according to the team sheets. Good grief, how did that happen?
lol bizarre, and Dalot and Smalling in defence. Thank God they weren't
Not sure that Wimbledon lineup is correct… Smalling, Fred, Dalot, Matic.. what?!
Jones captain, too, in probably his 12th match in 4 years…
Hans Seger, the armless keeper.
That was fantastic! Thank you!
Could you imagine getting relegated?! Leeds all over! Only seen blues win one trophy and thats 95! I always seem contempt with a mid table finish! Were as me dad is fucking livid all the time! I wish i had the good times like him!
Contempt? Or content. Two very different ways to express how you feel.
Isn't that the game that Blue Bill said, 'never again' !! well we've been bloody close after then !!
I was here then never cried so much half time. Thought was over
I wonder if Hans Segers ever watches clips from this game? 28 years later, perhaps justice will be done on May 22nd at The Emirates.
Wow. That was close. Good thing that'll never happen again.
Barry Horne is now my physics teacher, oh how times have changed
What's his email address plz?
@@imrantransam7837 😂😂nice try
I was in the Gwladys street as a 15 year old watching this game. went through every possible emotion. cant believe how shit a manager Mike Walker was.
Was this the game where the Wimbledon goalkeeper Hans Segers was accused of match fixing
I like the scaffolding boards in the Stanley road end , should keep that little stand . With the scaffold brilliant
That Everton penalty, wow. Not the first time Sheffield United have been relegated from the Premier League, to my very limited knowledge, it seams.
What a Team this everton side was .BORN
THE GREAT COMEBACK
EVERTON V PALACE | 19 MAY 2022
Here's hoping to another great escape this year
Should be fine now. It looks like Burnley have thrown in the towel by sacking Dyche with 8 games to go.
We did it again! In the exact same way! The only way Everton know.
@@rafaelmertens3386 "In the exact same way"? Match-fiixing then?
was there with my dad (RIP ) ..... was first game I had seen since the early 70s...when he took me as a kid, and I havent seen a live game since.... was easy to get a ticket. What a game..and a real shame for the fans that left early in disgust...lol they missed a cracker of a comeback
Robbie Earle was good player then I always said if had fashunu this day we wouldn't of escaped
Was there that day with Lisa her mom remember running on the pitch swinging off the goal posts etc love r Everton football club
Thank. The. Lord...
Back when Hans Segers took a bribe...
*Not Guilty* - He just fucked up.
Dr Stephen Hawking could have saved that Paul Stewart winner.
Certainly looked rather suspect at the time...I suppose we'll never know..
What happened to Neville’s top did the colour wash out?
Blue bill kenwright lording up the well wishes and praise nothing has changed in 28 years since this game .. get him out the club
AAAAAAFC Wimbledon !!!!!!
Wow ped of toffee tv looks so young in that crowd.
What minute?
Gonna be a tough road back now. Smh.
Never knew some of the Man Utd boys were playing for Wimbledon smelling Fred dalot and matic
"Happily, the Wimbledon kit survived (the bus fire), though it smells heavily of smoke".WTF?🤣 Sounds like something that would only happen to a Sunday morning pub team.
Quite glad. It is a pretty decent kit still today, unlike most in the 90’s.
🤫 🤫 🤫 🤫 🤫 🤫 🤫 Loose lips sink ships
Does anyone know where I can get a pint of Scorpion dry on draught?
Lmao at the Wimbledon lineup
Eerily similiar to the end of the 2022 season.
COYB
Good luck Everton
Can someone who went to this game tell me please...were there any Wimbledon fans at the game and if so where did they get allocated?
Yes there were, Upper Bullens.
Upper bullens park end corner.
They all came in a taxi
I remember listening to this one on the radio when I was at University. At the end I was running around the car park yelling. Mike Walker was a shit manager and we had some shit players. Thanks god we survived otherwise we could have done a Leeds/Middlesborough/Sunderland/Bolton/insert shit team here and drifted into obscurity.
That's the weird thing though - we didn't really have shit players here. We certainly DID have for 1998 against Coventry, but loads of that team were really solid, good footballers for the time.
@@tubey84 Ablett, Horne, Snodin, Barn Door, Ebbrell, not great players, Stuart never scored that many goals, quite a few journeymen in the squad, Limpar mercurial. On their day they could perform decently but you don't end up 17th by chance over the season.
Why do you folks like this style, it looks kinda silly to me. Much less attractive than today's football no?
ณ นาทีที่ 90หัวใจหดหู่บอกไม่ถูก ต้องลงไปแช
Well, the good news is that 28 years later, it looks like you can relive that last day excitement all over again.
Yeah
Can someone please tell me. What was the bigger escape 94 or 98?
Both but Wimbledon was just incredible being 2-0 down too
Who needs Cantona when we've got Barry horne
How can you people like watching this. No possession at all. it's kinda silly to watch
Comes to something on the low hanging fruit branch when you celebrate finishing 4th from bottom like maybe today?
ArchieRKO Everton 💙
I’m becoming a Sunderland fan. They’re on the up and up.
ive never liked Everton. Should have gone down. I hope they drop today BHAFC....
Everton have so many lives. The Toffees survived relegation to the second tier...again.
A very very soft goal that won it. Segers just let it go thru him. A touch of Grobbelaars maybe..
