:-: Yeah it took me a little bit to catch that line and when I heard it I was completely mind-blown how he said it and put it in that way.. I Love Play Sudoku it's a very interesting game and really gets the mind thinking.
First verse is about him filling out the form for signing up for therapy and just being abstract and creative about it.
The second verse is about waiting in the waiting room. Describing the kids fighting, their mom has her face buried in her phone watching Hulu, he is "half a human combing over Home&Garden stoned". He's stoned, reading through the Home and Garden magazines they have in waiting rooms. She called his name and pushed him into an oven - He's getting in the hot seat going in to see the therapists. A trial by fire, etc.
Third verse is the convo with the therapists, how he doesn't want to be there, doesn't value what her advice is when she's gota a 1/4million in debt. He came up in a different type of family, one where you had to build walls up instead of being open and talking. They are "grown ups from opposing clans", different types of families and background., etc. Then at the end "preservation is a doozy, will you be needing another appt? absolutely". He just had a battle that appeared negative, but for his own self preservation he's going to book another appt.
Im so happy for that you have discovered Aesop. Keep listening and slowly study his discography.... You will forever be enlightened and blessed.

And Tuesday, and acid king (the story behind Ricky kasso, aka the acid king, is one that’s inspired a lot of music, movies, books etc. part of the satanic panic era in the late 70’s and 80’s, especially since kasso killed someone high on pcp screaming “say you love satan” and churro. What I got from it. It’s kinda about just being another patient in a therapists waiting room. (Just another job/racket) Then talks on the session a little. When he speaks on the racket of it. I think he’s talking about how anything could be racket. His barber is smarter then the person with the college degree. Least that’s the what I took from it. I could be off.

I believe, at least in my interpretation of they way Aes is telling the story, is that it's a 3 part story of his visits to his psychiatrist. Verse #1 being when he first enters and has to fill out his patient information form and if I catch that right he is making shit up, which is what do sometimes. Have to keep those fuckers on their toes. Verse #2 is him in the waiting room observing all that's going on around him, noticing the mom watching hulu in attempt to avoiding the kids acting fools. Verse #3 being his actual session with the psych doctor and his attempts at deflection, not wanting to discuss his personal shit with an overpaid stranger. That's my perception anyway.

There is an extraordinary amount of amazing MCs out there, Aesop Rock is just my favorite, kind of like how Tool is my favorite "band". I haven't looked to see if you have checked this track out yet, one of his newer ones "Klutz". Man, it's all verse. It literally short intro, verse, and then a little hook at the end. And when I say verse, I mean all bars. It slightly segmented, but the lyrics bro, the wordplay, absolutely insane in this one. There are some tricky words in there, you may just want to keep your Google open for definitions, just looking out. No shame, I had to do it. One of the reasons why I like Aes Rock, he challenges a person's knowledge of words.
Disregard me man, I just seen you did that one a year ago. I'm one of the "essential" people who were already stupid busy before this covid-19 crap started. So I have limited time to check for shit or keeping up to date. I just make playlists and listen to music while I put about 16 hours in every friggin' day. The music is the only thing helping me maintain some level of sanity. And before anyone mentions money, the people who do what I do, all make a salary. So we are getting screwed out of this ordeal.

Basically it's about him seeing the shrink the first part it's him filling out paperwork with bs his emergency contact is his cat. Lines like "it's a racket not a rehabilitation" pretty much tell you how he feels about the process. Comparing it to an arcade game and he's always spendung more and more money without ever getting anywhere. It's super clever but also shows how he's maybe too clever for his own good at the end he makes another appointment kind of admitting that yes he's got stuff he need to deal with.

@@iammrwack Around early 00's/late 90's Aes was supposed to tour with El-P (now half of run the jewels) and a bunch of other underground NY artists, but his severe anxiety made him pull out last minute. It's something that's bothered him all his life and pops up in a lot of his rap.
@@Zer0san Aes has has anxiety and depression most of his life, so he's been in therapy and has gotten medication. I can tell you as someone who also has anxiety and depression, for some people it works wonders and for some people it makes things worse. Shrunk is about Aes seeing a therapist and Kirby is about what actually helps him, his pet cat. The final line of Kirby is something like (I forget exactly) "15 years of taking prescriptions now a shrink like idonkno maybe get a kitten."
Malibu Ken, Churro is clearly the best but Save our Ships hits like crack, I feel like it's about the modern news . But you might be right, Sword box might be my favorite take down of modern rap since Zero Dark Thirty. But sword box is so much clearer comparing the modern rap landscape to magicians fooling the masses by claiming to be one thing but it's all just smoke, mirrors and magic tricks (This is just my interpretation, all Aesop Rock fans know that his abstract lyrics have different interpretations for all of us).
