5k miles and Im loving my 2014 tC manual transmission! Woohoo fun!
If this was rear wheel drive with the hatch... the amount of these sold would have been some pretty solid numbers
This looks like corolla/frs/prius had a three some.
KeybladeHero01 it shares from the Toyota design
😂
It'd still be accurate if you added almost every other modern Toyota.
Real classy comment. NOT
People love to hate on this car. You have to understand that this car is targeted after younger people. You can buy it basically custom to you. Everything that you could want can be easily added or modified to fit to your liking. And the stuff that comes STANDARD in this car doesn't in other cars in the segment. I'm getting one this summer. Need to get out of my gas guzzling truck. Can't wait to place my order
Well, I just bought my new Scion tC 2014 and I love it. It's fantastic.
Hardly lukewarm....this car rocks! Amazing stereo with HD, 28+ avg mpg, updated steering and suspension tweaks for 2014 make handling corners fun, 0-60 in
When I grow up I would love to buy a car like this
0:41 this place...I've seen been there IN GTA 5
the room at the back seat is unbelievable.. that is the highlight of this car. and once back seats are folded you can put a bike, snowboard, luggages.
This car looks so badass wish it had more power though.
i buy my scion tc in puerto rico 2015 blue and pay 30,500 180 hp is realy bad at lest 250hp are 300hp will be much better thats wy scion died becuse honda and kia hyundai voloster n small car with more power are winning i wich scion to come back frs are tc with more power they can get back on feet
I'm actually going to pick up my 2014 tc today!!! Excited as ever! Very aggressive look a lot of torque compared to cars in the same bracket. This car is loaded and the price compared to other models alike, you cant beat it!!!
do u still have that tc? how has it been
Any update?
Manual tc 180hp, torque 173.. automatic tc 178 hp, torque 172... 2014 tc suspension upgrades. additional spot welds, retuned struts, retuned suspension braces..
At least it's more exciting than other toyotas.
They should have never discontinued this car . I had a 07 and I loved that car . I got almost 300,000 miles out of it
I hope I can be a part of yhe scion design team after I graduate. Just because they make cars that still look like concepts.
"Hard plastic" What did you expect with a $20k dollar car?
I like it .I got mine monday .
why wouldn't it be the same? Its just a refresh. Whenever the redesign will be might have a new engine
This is not a performance car. I went from VW GTIs to SCION. I can now sleep good at night knowing I won't get a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. All german cars are great when they are new but once they hit 60, 000 miles they start to break down. My Toyota and Scions aren't for performance, they are reliable and economic vehicles. If you want a Toyota on steroids then look into LEXUS. Having owned Chevy, Ford, Mercedes Benz, VW, Hyundai and Honda I will say from experience that this line of cars are great.
Facts
Please make a stronger 200hp motor for the tc scion!!! Kia made one for the forte koup and so can you... They are even in the same price range :/
The ride is startlingly quiet for such a car. The engine sings with the identifiers of any 4 cylinder, the tone of which is rounded off by noise dampening material under the hood and behind the firewall, which also rids you of excessive road noise. The car sounds lovely on the highway, rides smooth and responds as willed. Again, the steering is just damn fine. The cargo space ample, and the rear passenger space is uncompromised. I find this to be my favourite Toyota, and plan to buy one soon.
Beautiful ride
This guy says they turned it around with the FRS which is absolutely NOT TRUE. The TC was their money maker not the FRS. The FRS had recognition for being a decent cheap rear wheel drive but never did anything positive for Scion like this dude says it did. They dropped the TC and absorbed the FRS into the Toyota brand because they didnt want people to realize that both cars looked similar and that the TC with less power yet a bigger engine could actually beat the FRS despite the difference in power, not so much handling.. However, the FRS costs wayyy more $$$$$$. The TC had potential, but they wanted to try to compete with velosters and GTI's and mazdas using the FRS with wayyy less power then all of them. so funnay
I got behind the wheel in my automotive fundamentals class and even though I was in it for less than a minute I really liked it more than my Kia.
I'll tell you exactly why...the Frankenstein you drive on a daily feels pieced together (Mitsubishi motor, Toyota tranny, Honda suspension, ford Bluetooth, Chevy ECU.) the whole idea of buying a Korean import is the price range but you have to ask why it's that cheap...the reason it's a Frankenstein car made with all the parts the other guys didn't want or need. am I saying they're bad? not really although the sportage I drove brand new with less than 10 on the odo broke down (10/100000 warranty)...they meet a niche in the market by using second hand items for instance the 2016 sportage uses the engine and tranny from the 2008 focus ST...if I want a 2008 I'd buy a 2008 no? that's just one instance. at least with the tC2 it may have the heart of a camry and the muscles of a corolla s and the brain from a FR-S but it doesn't feel pieced together the parts sync with each other and work...
stock HP is almost always measured from the crank. I'm guessing the drop is from a slightly different ECU tune.
He's right about the electronic power steering. Another thing that bugs me is you can't see the turn signal indicators on the dash if your leaning left or right a little. Its a nice car for the money. I can't get TRD parts yet. When they become available I'll be lowering and installing intake and exhaust
It's a great car, with good, torquey pickup that's responsive. As expected, it's not as easy to get in the back seat as, say, a car with rear doors, but once inside, a six foot man can sit behind another six foot man comfortably. The seats recline so far as to make room in the back for anyone who needs it. The car is remarkably comfortable. "The dash is high." Well, yeah, it is. It has a tilt-only moonroof broken into a front and rear section, each with its own individual pull screen.
What's up with the horrible MPGs though?
Not a fan, I think Scion should have added a V6 option (since I doubt turbo will be for awhile) for more power. They should have thrown the Camry V6 on higher trims in and price it at $26,000! Then if be interested! I just think the engine is uninspiring. IIRC the Camry V6 does 0-60 faster than the Scion and weighs more. If I'm not mistaken the IS250 is about the same as the Scion tC and I'd rather have that, so if Scion added a V6 option in that little body I think It'll fly!
Overall sporty car get lots of looks. Id like to lower. Hids. And exhaust. Possibly spoiler. The rear tail lights I'm unsure about the clear style. May tint red or black. Any questions pm me! I got 2400km currently on mine had it for a week drove it lots. Traction control. Handy but a pain to have to stop to disable it all.
for all the people talking shit on TCS shutup. Dezod makes a turbo kit for these cars and if you do good enough work. There are TCS running 10 sec times. They are not meant to come with a turbo or any platform of this nature. They are plain platform giving the person a choice to easily mod the car which i like. That is why Toyota makes TRD to add parts to there car. They are very reliable cars. I rather buy a scion than a WRX knowing I can mod it for a lot less. and I do like subies.
they can take the beating, it's a performance sedan/hatch. Proven Robust drivetrain and power plant.
Some pre-owned ones come with warranties.
Scion should have NEVER gotten the FR-S.. they already have a TC to fill that market.. Toyota should have gotten the GT86 like the rest of the world
put a couple of bolt on upgrades on like a cold air intake and an exhaust, lower it and put it on grippier tires and for good measure put a strut bar on there and then this car will be alot better to drive than you think
What should I get a 2014 tc or a 2013 civic ex???? Manuals.....
TC is awesome, but i would be hard to choose it over Mustang GT, or over FR-S for that matter. It's not for those who want RWD fun. But it's great winter alternative to both.
the engine is probably the same, sometimes the power measurements changes due to some differents ways to test the engines
I really want to like the tC, but it's hard to considering the low power output for the large 4cyl displacement, the relatively low MPGs, and the rather high price against the competition like Civic Si and Forte SX. I like the styling, love the hatchback design, but it's hard to justify spending more and getting less car.
i buy my scion tc in puerto rico 2015 blue and pay 30,500 180 hp is realy bad at lest 250hp are 300hp will be much better thats wy scion died becuse honda and kia hyundai voloster n small car with more power are winning i wich scion to come back frs are tc with more power they can get back on feet
Stay away from Kia. It's garbage
*I meant to go on to say that to explicitly tell someone 'the car's dash is high' makes it sound like it's a problem. It isn't. I, my customers and everyone else who's sat in the car, barely noticed it.
I think they should make this car rear wheel drive, whether there is FR-S or not.
Are you going to review the tc 10 series?
The stock exhaust could have been larger... Waiting to get a entire cat back. Stock muffler after few 1000 km seems to be more raspy so that was nice. I dipped my OEM wheels black. Headlights are awesome but hids would be nice. More rear passenger room then my last four door Sentra or Mazda 3.
yo, what road or high way is he driving on?
In America "Scion" is a brand aimed for people from 20 to 35. The average consumer for Toyota's American market is around age 40+. Toyota in the rest of the world has an average of 33. So you might be able to tell why Toyota re-branded some of their European counterparts.
The first TC is still the best looking
not even close
Wrong imo
Kinda wanted this Scion, but after seeing this review it made me like my '09 Lancer more. It just looks more aggressive and drives fast on corners.
hell no🤣🤣🤣
i like the tC2 over this one tbh... i mean yeah its nice and all, but it just doesnt look as "aggressive" as the tC2 i guess..
wish they brought back the turbo charger that TRD added back in 08
Translation:
"Scion would not sell this vehicle if Mitsubishi still produced the Eclipse, which, as you fine gentlemen are probably aware, was responsible for the creation of this segment in the 1990's. It was the highest selling two door automobile in the United States as well as the least expensive convertible. T'was quite a compelling product!"
So many idiots commenting on this video. For starters, this engine DOES come from the Camry. As most people already know, this is a great engine that will last a long time with no headaches. For that same reason, Camrys are being used as taxis in NYC. Everyone hating on Scion needs to shut up and learn a thing or two before making themselves look stupid.
For this price, you can't get a car with 180 HP that is both reliable and fun to drive (sort of).
I liked the 2009 interior, particularly the a/c buttons. Knobs are dumb.
Headlight is tolerable, but taillight isn't. I still prefer the L shape one or the 3 mini circle one over this current gen. Scion should consider put direct injection in this engine to increase the power a bit, but they probably won't because it will hit the FR-S territory. I don't understand neither how they lost the one HP lol.
if you buy at tc they dont break down as much as mustang v6 do less maintenance work and there better on gas
I like the 2011-13, they weren't overdone and didn't have the Veloster grill, 1 extra horsepower, 1k cheaper and didn't have that ugly rear bumper. However that new radio looks pretty cool.
Just trade it a fully loaded 2012 maxima w sport package for a tc 10th anniversary stick shift best decision I've ever made half the people here don't know what they are talking about it's not a performance car but it's very sporty I myself was very surprise on how well it drive it's a lot of fun at an affordable price
compare this car to other coupes in its price bracket (Veloster - non turbo, civic, elantra coup, Forte Koup, etc.) and you'll find that it has more power, better handling, more cargo/passenger room and a better sound system (not to mention a standard panoramic roof) than those cars. If you want a performer car, scion makes the FRS. Its one real weakness is its gas mileage, as it is not competitive with its class.
the place is in Griffit park
Quicker than a Veloster turbo without the turbo!
And why I should buy this instead of a mustang V6?
Try your Mustang in the snow or rain storms...also resale and reliability and fun of Scion is tops.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYY Would you compare this to a Mustang? I've been a Mustang lover all of my life and have always wanted one but that day has come and gone. These cars don't compare.
Ask hemo1001...he asked the question pookiewood.
Sorry thought you were posing the question. :p
The problem that i didn't test it before judging but i just got my first mustang 2013 and i'm lovin it, My first car was a scion XA and i really miss that car. Regarding to the snow or rain i live in saudi arabia where you rarely see rain and never see the snow.
or a 5-door TC turbo hatch
With 17 less horsepower? Yes, indeed my good sir!
Love this car
Stopped the video at : "engine remains the same as last year"
Fun car! Negatives for me. Seats kill my back. When the sunroof is open any way everything rattles up there sounds terrible. Mpg could be better but the car has incredible power. Seem to stall it often with lots of experience with manual transmissions and is rather noisy shifting gears. Premium stereo isn't that great at all no subwoofer. I would hate to had gotten the base stereo. Standard stereo deck is great! Blue tooth needs work.
Turning radius is awesome handling is amazing etc.
Wow not one mention of the transmission or the shifter.
Why did they Clear the rear lights -_-
yea I noticed that too, still looks nice though
its a strong nice car and the first one to import this car to the middle east no one has a scion there
fun fact scion is a Toyota product
I actually like this car
Should've continued this car as the Celica.
Isn't the front look similar to Toyota Avalon?
Is the Tc the most hated car in the market? If you don't like it, then don't watch it... This car is pretty good for the price, no matter what you say...
Scions engines are made by toyota, Some of the reliable engines out on the market Toyota's last forever. Do some more research next time
Lets face it toyota cars begin to be like dissapoint us lol accept for the Gt86
@WretchedDrake disregard this comment, the look has grown on me!
I think I'm the only person on earth that actually prefers plastic interior and cloth seats, I'd rather spend the money on a better engine etc
The engine needs to be revamped instead of using a bloody Camry engine -.-
Darksyne actually the "bloody camry engine" is nice and beefy plus it's reliable even if you mod it
Yeaaa no. If you wanna go fast then get a race car. This is a reliable budget cruiser car
And to everyone talking smack about the speed of the tC...well, the 2011-13 tC can spank a stock Si.
And that was such a general review... Can it be more specific? I can just read of these stuffs online. BE more specific on details please
Start that thing of at 15k and it sells all day.
needs better MPG to make it relevant again.
No one expect it to be a Bugatti Veyron.
i prefer lasts year back and tail lights
Last year model looks clean. This looks too busy. And this is hard to sell since mazda3 is a lot more fun n civic/corolla is more reliable. This car doesn't capture neither end of consumers
Focus depreciates like a rock dropping off a cliff...
I like my fr-s
This car looks great everywhere except the front bumper, it looks like ass. Weird headlights, the bottom of the front bumper between the grille and the fog light (or where they would be) looks sorta like it melted and isn't straight cut like the other lines of the car suggest. Overall, this car needs a redesign badly. It looked good from 2011-2013 but the interior is terrible. Wtf are you doing Toyota???
2.5L VW jetta is better inside and out in anyway .....maybe one downside: the reliable
Joe Zhang u said it right Scion or Toyota reliability is always better vw that always breaks down. The tc has a camry engine and there's a lot of 1st generation tc with over 200,000 mile still going strong.
so the tc is to scion and the FR-S what the boxter/cayman is to Porsche and the 911? makes sense to me. but if toyota really wanted to get then attention of enthusiasts, they would have given this 210 hp and put it up against the veloster turbo and honda civic si.
scrap the Scion name and just call them Toyotas like they do in Japan. Ive heard people say that they would only buy a BRZ and not the FR-S(even tho they are the same name) just because they dont like the scion name/brand its for hipsters with no back ground history like the Toyota name
Back styling looks 'smashed in', similar to the Camry and the 2014 Corolla.
calling this ugly is like calling the frs ugly shit looks the same.
that's no excuse. the lowest Honda Civic trim level at around 18grand gets 5" LCD screen with backup camera and guidelines, bluetooth audio, gets great gas mileage and is actually a pretty good looking car. this car gets some cheap shit aftermarket audio system.
2014 Scion tC=College car, nothing more. which is not a bad thing at all.
Lol people complain fork up a grand or two install turbo and injectors plus piggy back for the ecu and done 100 hp plus toyota engines are made with turbos in mind my corolla 94's 7afe with stock internals could hold 8psi safe 10 semi and 12 danger toyota have always built engines to let owners go crazy with tunning Ps. I love having a brand everyone hates because at the end of the day the underdog ends up winning lol
i like it. but it hasn't changed my miind on buying a jeep wrangler....
I didn't know it was cheaper to get a manual than a automatic. Trust me manual over auto any day in a car. Auto takes the fun out of driving a car, makes me feel lazy like the black guy who invented it.
Why did Toyota put in a Camry engine?
