    Got this car in 2018 and it's the best vehicle I've ever driven, it really has a kick too, drives fast and is easy to go over the speed limit so I say be careful to those when you first get it, I got a ticket for going 20 over on accident on the highway the first month of having it. Really accelerates quickly too, especially on sport mode so if you need to get out of a tough situation on the road you can.

    I bought the standard hybrid right when it came out in May 2017. Since then I have racked about 110,000 miles no her.
    Of course after the 100k drivetrain warrenty my clutches started going out. When the cars cold, the upshift slipping is really bad. And now all the time when I come to a stop and it cycles back down through the gears, it grabs each gear REALLY HARD. Very uncomfortable, annoying, and embarassing if I have passengers. Only 3 years into my vehicle purchase and im not looking forward to the nearly $3,000 clutch replacement I was quoted.
    I ONLY bought this car because I thought it would be better than a prius, more like a regular car shifting through gears.
    Now I have a bit of regret and during this time I bought a 2013 Prius which I dont hate driving.
    After I fix the clutches im going to try to sell my Ioniq. Such a shame but cost of ownership / depreciation is thought the roof on this car. My 2cents from a real life daily driven owner.

      That's unfortunate. I have a 2017 Ioniq hybrid with 90k miles and I'm loving it with no problems so far. I've done mostly highway driving though.

    My parents (well into their 70's) drive a Sonata hybrid. Dad gets a real kick out of seeing how many miles per gallon he can squeeze out of it. Who knew my elderly father would be a hypermiler? Yes, he owned several Oldsmobiles back in the day.

    • @MotoManTV

      MAJOR respect that they a. bought one and b. enjoy the game of hypermiling at their age:)

    Been waiting ages for this car to arrive in the US. Got to take an up close look at it in the Detroit Auto show but you don't have enough time to suck in all the features and design there.
    How do you feel about the full EV version only having 124 miles of range, yet being about 7k cheaper than the Bolt? I hear they plan to release a 200 mile version next year. Wonder how they will fit the battery in this frame.

    I wouldn't say anything to do with a Hyundai ioniq is related in any way with car porn

    Big Hyundai car arm. The new hybrid interior isn't as nice as the older i40 that it looks the ioniq is going to replace (maybe)
    I tested a mid spec ioniq and the interior, was OK, but was alot more 'plasticy' and cheap feeling. Also the design language looked like a step back.
    Also the 1.6d in the i40 is probably more efficient (mpg real life).

    We have two cars, one is a 2016 LEAF SL, the other gas powered. The LEAF lease is up in Dec 2018. We will replace it with an IonIQ EV, because the LEAF has taught us the Hyundai range of 124 miles it plenty. Non- EV drivers will eventually figure out that the smart move for multi-car families is to have one car be an EV. It will cover 95% of driving very inexpensively. The gas car can cover out of state travel. Personally I don't see the need for an EV to have super long range. Plus that gas car will last much longer as it is being driven less.

    I'd je happy with a 100mile EV, in the uk we don't do far daily drives. Uk average is 30 miles a day or 12k a year. So 100m radio's would be fine. And for longer trips, we travel to the content every summer, I'd rent a diesel for the 3 or 4 weeks.

  • @by9917
    @by9917 7 років тому

    I've been driving a Leaf for most of a lease. 84 miles is mostly acceptable to me. More than 124 has little value unless there is a charging network because anything more than 100 miles is typically more than 500 miles for me. The Bolt adds little value to me since there are so few (almost none) CCS chargers on my long trip routes. I would rather save the $7k or so. That said, the Leaf currently has huge incentives. I can live with 107 miles if it saves thousands on my lease. I was born in the early 60s, and even thought they have expanded the original definition of baby-boomers, I refuse to join their ranks.

    I got a 2018 mod of plugg in,and i,m very pleased by owning this plugg in hybried.In summer my gasolin use was 1,1 liter pr. (100km).In Winter around 2liter pr.(100km) That mostly because the Heather need the motor to run.If Hyundai could make the heater be elektric i would be happy.

    Got the Hyundai hybrid Premium SE model recently. (2018 -UK) Loving it. Easily the best car I have ever had. Early days but averaging 62 mpg although I did have it in the sport mode a few times which makes it feel a different car again. Have to get used to a silent car on start up. Looks stunning in the platinum silver finish and much better looking than the Prius. Dual clutch automatic super smooth.

    With EV coming onto the market as a new and current trend I would pay up to 40k for double the range equal to a Tesla of course I'm gonna use State and Federal Incentives to reduce that price as well.

    You can always rely on MOTOMan to give you a REAL car review. Thank you. I'm still disappointed in the selection of available EV in 2017. I hope 2018 is gonna get better. I did hear the Golf e has increased their range with a larger battery. I could be wrong though.

    Hey motoman! Do the batteries in the Hybrid, PHEV and the EV have a thermal management system? That is a coolant system from the radiator to keep batteries cool?

    See if you can get info on the eco-das coasting guide that's on the models with navigation. I have it on the niro touring and have never been able to activate it. Also how much more efficient are those 15 inch rims, I'd put some on the niro if it made a difference :). Cause the mpg on the ioniq blue is cray.

      I believe the Niro has a 12v battery hidden in the back that's used to jump start the car. There a reset button next to the fuel cap button to reset the 12v battery if it ever looses power. I wonder if the hyundai has the same thing. Because the Niro also powers itself via the hybrid battery not a 12v battery.

    • @tarassu
      @tarassu 7 років тому

      It's possible to extract 12V out of higher voltage battery if tapped from the middle of the pack.

      The Ioniq still has a 12V battery, as EV and Hybrid for the 12V System in the car. But it uses the 400V Hybrid battery for starting the Engine.

    motoman it's good to have the 12v incase the battery fails entirely. also if a 12v goes bad you can easily swap it, i doubt the same can be said for this cars battery.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  7 років тому

      MotoManTV yes, perhaps everything remains hunky dory for hyundai and they dont have that kind of issue but if they do the cost would be harsh. I like hyundai though, constantly pushing the envelope.

    • @lejink

      Sure, keeping the 12V battery means a redundant system which could be useful later in the cars life when maintenance is required on the larger battery packs..
      Do automakers really think about long term reliability anymore though? To me it seems like neat electronic tricks are what sell, nobody cares how long they will last.
      Soft close door, automatic trunk lids, electric parking breaks, DCT when an automatic would do..
      All points of issue for long term reliability but people can't get enough of it at dealerships.
      It just needs to last longer than the warranty

    It's cheaper but no thanks!

    This or Prius 4? How about the smoothness of the drivetrain? Road noise?

    • @BokiXI
      @BokiXI 7 років тому

      I've already tried the Ioniq Hybrid and found it very good with a few exceptions - road noise and the unwillingness of the drivetrain to go in EV mode. Also, I honestly don't think that the DSG engine is well suited for the hybrid cars of this size, as the jumps between gears were noticable indeed. I haven't tested the Prius 4 so I may be wrong in complaining about those details.

    1st off all Tessa set the bar for EV at $35k incentives aside as they already have enough preorders that will deplete those , so it want make any sense to buy or even lease for more $$ even if the wait time for Tesla 3 will be a year . The only differentiating factor for me would be a utility off a car and optional equipment like ACC, auto-steer, cooled seats, panoramic roof etc, I'm in Ohio So the faster Hyundai / Kia develops some kind off autonomous driving future the more cards they will have to play against competition. Just my 5c...I'm in Ohio...
