Also I heavily agree with Biollante's design being perfect enough that she could easily have been in her own standalone horror scifi film, Japanese or American, and become an iconic creature.
Possibly the scariest in terms of visual design, next to say, Destoroyah. Most definitely one of if not THE most insanely impressive tokusatsu suit/ puppet contraption ever built and put on screen.
Also, Destoroyah does not only look scary, but he also sounds scary, come on, tell me his roar isn't haunting, and another thing that terrifies me is how he is the peak of evilness of kaiju and is bigger and more powerful than any form of Godzilla except the burning mode! ( The Earth anime doesn't count )
I remember hearing her whale-ish cries and roar really terrified me as a kid. As I really loved this kaiju, Biollante was one of the scariest creatures in the Godzilla Franchise.
I've never understood why Biollante wasn't much more popular, it have one of the best designs in the series, and I think it is my second favorite kaiju after Godzilla himself. It should have more exposure than other much less interesting creatures on the series. I've seen some of the concept art from the movie and I saw a lot of amazing designs that were discarded, I also don't understand why they don't reuse some of them. By the way, maybe it's just me or my headphones, but I feel like the audio in this video was a bit irregular, with the parts of music and the bass a bit too aloud.
It honestly didn't get a whole lot of screen time compared to, say, Destroyah or SpaceGodzilla. What screen time she did get was fucking amazing though- I feel like if the movie did better she would be more widely recognized.
Actually, stop motion was used a few times after the original. In Godzilla Raids Again, stop motion was used to add cracks to the pagoda being destroyed, and in King Kong vs Godzilla, it was used for a quick shot of the Giant Octopus lifting up a native and Godzilla kangaroo kicking Kong.
I remember laughing my ass off at the kangaroo kick. Because in one shot they're clearly guys in rubber suits, and then in the next shot they're suddenly action figures. That movie was so goofy.
A very underrated monster in the Godzilla franchise but definitely one of my favorite designed ones. Wish she had made more appearances outside of things like video games.
The idea of a horror sci-fi film with biollante being the Main monster is an idea i love because i can see multiple movies with different godzilla monsters being the Main creature creating a cinematic universe that ends in a destroy all monsters type of movie
Biollante has always been a personal favorite of mine! Both the monster and the movie I think are really underrated! Always love the more darker tone Godzilla movies more than the all fight action movie. Biollante herself I have always loved her final form, the giant crocodile mouth especially! Her origin too is great! Being made of plant cells, Godzilla cells and even the whole story with the Doctors daughter! Ugh love Biollante :)
I honestly do fully agree with you when it comes to how scary Biollante looks. I mean seriously the skin texturing on her has a very sickly feel to it and seeing it movie just feels so creepy because of what she's made out of. The part that makes that feeling more prevalent is a sadly deleted scene during the first battle between Godzilla and Biollante on the lake where her spores scatter all over the hills around the lake making a bunch of flowers bloom and you actually see Godzilla cry. What makes it feel unsettling to me is that it shows Godzilla's personality towards the things he fights for once because it shows how much he is treated as a monster so when other monsters show up it feels as if he has a connection to his opponent.
I also found biollante scary. The rose form got me curious but the final form screams chronenberg. If they could make that then Godzilla would have a lot more Lovecraftian creatures in his rogue gallery.
This. I first saw Godzilla v Hedorah when I was 5. Could not shower or sleep without feeling paranoid for several months after watching that movie. Always had this irrational fear it would show up when my back was turned. Those luminous eyes and the grotesque shape was nightmare fuel. I'm 32 now and that thing still disturbs me
Biollante is one of my favorite kaiju from the heisei era! she was kinda scary with the first form but the plant form different story... also that deleted scene where she consumes Godzilla or something like that was interesting. But I hope she comes back in the future films.
@@michelalston8107 yea well I mean you can try to find it. It might be on prime video, HBO max, paramount+,apple tv+. If it's not there anymore it's because they removed it.
One thing that doesn't get talked about with Biollante is just how tragic her origin is. She's essential a woman trapped in a monster's body, unable to die because her father could not come to terms with his daughter's death and refused to let her rest in peace. Her theme is also one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard put together. It has this sense of beauty and wonder, with dark and ominous parts as if to hint at the abomination she's slowly becoming. These things combined make her my favorite monster in the entire franchise, second only to MechaGodzilla.
Biollante is one of my favorite monsters in the Godzilla franchise. Ever since I saw her on the eponymous movie, I was always in awe. The effects that are done with her are insane, particularly the final form. The movie is one of the best in the overall series. I always liked the concept of a carnivore plant-esque Monsters and Biollante is pretty much it. Her appearance, her Origins, her Origins, her roars and effects. It's all great. She has had appearances in comics, novels and videogames, but I hope that she gets used in a new movie one day, somehow.
Biollante is an incredible monster design!! I absolutely LOVE Godzilla and that era of Godzilla! I like the story that goes along with that movie as well. I think my favorite design is Detroyah which is also my favorite Godzilla movie! It’s got a lot of horror elements that I love. Great video btw! Nice to shine a spot light on one of my most beloved franchises!
Dude you have the save room for Dino Crisis 2 as the background music in this video. Made me think of my childhood, thank you my dude! This Godzilla movie did as well!
Biollante's design is really cool! I'd say the scariest Godzilla movie I saw was Godzilla VS Hedorah. The scene with the fish-heads at the bar was very trippy and I remember the scenes where the people were melting down to their skeletons were scary as a kid.
Loved Biollante, not only the kaiju parts, but also the tragic underlying story of the struggle of letting go of loved ones. Not to mention Biollante did some serious damage to Godzilla, seemed like a near even matchup.
Biollante is a very interesting kaiju in the Godzilla franchise in the heisie era of Godzilla films because of her design and origins of her creation. I wouldn’t say Biollante being the scariest kaiju in the Godzilla franchise in my opinion (that title belongs to Destoryah it’s literally the devil/satan of the Godzilla franchise), but she does have some scary factor like her huge and tall size (120 meters tall) dwarfing the 80 meter tall Godzilla (Biogoji), the crocodile like mouth full of sharp teeth, vines with flytrap mouths at the end, the fusion look of reptilian and planet skin texture, brain like Nucleus on her stomach, and she can’t die (she immortal). Biollante is an impressive practical effect that was brought to life by a talented special effects crew who’d carry about the Godzilla franchise as a whole and Biollante definitely made a big impression on many fans of tokusatsu and the daikaiju genre.
Definitely one of my top 5 favorite kaiju from the Godzilla series, for sure .. I remember I never got to watch this one when I was a kid because someone had stolen the only copy at the video store, leaving behind only the box cover for me to look at each time we visited and I passed by that section of the store.
Due to Godzilla’s near-invincibility, Space Godzilla could at least conceptually be terrifying as he was another Godzilla, but one which did not consider Earth home and which always looked even angrier than G himself. Add in that Space G controlled things through telekinesis and you have a lot to deal with. I feel he was a little too easily defeated in the film because he is another G (which some G fans have been waiting to see)
Finally! My day has come! Biollante has always been my most favorite "villain" monster of the entire Godzilla franchise (with the exception of *Red* from the NES Godzilla creepypasta). It's such a unique concept, terrific back story, and most amazing effects I'd seen since Guiron's filet-o-Space Gyaos or Godzilla's tail slide dropkick
Biollante is easily one of my top five favorite Godzilla enemies, and I think her movie is only behind the movie that preceded it in terms of overall quality and plot in the Heisei series. I like how "grounded" yet fantastical her origin story is; she would've been perfect for the Monsterverse. It saddens me that since her movie under performed, Toho, apparently, decided wholly original monsters headlining Godzilla films was a bad idea, so they went back to using classic monsters. As such, the dumpster fire of a plot that is Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah came two years later, was very successful, and an original monster wouldn't top billing with Godzilla until Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla in '94. Really, Spacegodzilla wasn't wholly original either as his design is just a modified version of Super Godzilla from SNES game.
I never was much afraid of Biollante. She's a very bizarre-looking creature, to be sure, but she only directs her violence at those who've wronged her, i.e. Godzilla and Bio-Major. She always felt more sad to me; she was peaceful until Godzilla attacked her, and before her final metamorphosis, her cries sounded like just that.
Godzilla vs Biollante is my favourite Heisei film tied with Godzilla vs Destoroyah Toho and the FX department made the most recognizable Godzilla look in this movie and the ones following He looks so badass and cool, his deeper roar and increased power made him cool again. Biollante is underrated as a kaiju, I never knew she existed until I binge watched the Heisei series The bio wars theme is my favourite music piece in this movie ^-x
I don't know how they'd pull it off in a believable way, but the creatives behind the Monsterverse _could_ induct Biollante into it as some kind of super-deadly _florafauna_ species in that universe's version of Skull Island (pre-"GVK") or Hollow Earth.
Honestly it saddens me that Biollante never got any love after her debut. I think she is and awesome and terrifying monster. Then again, I kinda wish that a few monsters and machines would make comebacks. I would love to see the Super X brought back along with a more modern interpretation of Hedorah and Anguirus.
Favorite Godzilla movie and monster. Best Godzilla story arc. My 5 year old and I fight over Biolante being Godzilla's, overall, biggest rival in size.
DESTOROYA's minions shook me up pretty good the first time watching the movie. SHIN GOJI in it's larval stage and final stage is almost neck and neck as well as far as creepy goes
Technically SpaceGodzilla is Biollante reincarnated without Ericka’s spirit, hence the gender change from female to male since Godzilla’s cells are so dominant (also explains the look too)
Biollante was the only Godzilla monster that scared me when I was growing up. And it was easily my favorite movie, possibly because of that. I would really love to see Biollante get some love in something more recent.
Imagine a horror movie style “monsterverse” Biollante film. She would be terrifying. Don’t have her fight Godzilla either, she can be a stand-alone kaiju with her appearance. I mean hell, just look at her in her original appearance?
Biollante is the direction that the entire Heisei series should have gone and I will die on that hill. A Grounded if not Realistic tone. New monsters. Godzilla as a villain/force of nature. That the follow-up to movie that good is the goofy time travel reboot of Ghidorah is just more proof positive that Toho hasn't know what to do with the big guy in decades. A series following this tone could have led to Godzilla v Baruboroi (another fave video of yours) and it would have been incredible.
The background song that you used is from the Godzilla anime trilogy? I would love to hear you talk about those movies as I found them to be really weird but interesting as well!
Someone pointed this out to us and we can't unsee it but does Perfect Chaos from Sonic Adventure look like Biollante. It won't be too far for him to be based of Biollante (especially since there was a Mechagodzilla reference in the same game).
Yes, he does. He sounds like Biollante as well. Obviously someone high up in Sonic team at the time was a Godzilla fan. (It wouldn't be the last Godzilla reference in Sonic ever, either. In the Sonic X anime, there's an episode with monsters resembling Mothra and Moguera, and another episode where Dr. Robotnik has a flying battleship that is strikingly similar to the Gotengo from Atragon.)
@@minimalbstolerance8113 and in the pre reboot Archie story, there was an alternative universe where all the characters were kaiju. They even has the name Zilla in their names.
@@thevenomspino I remember that one. Eggman was a good guy who created a giant robot to fight the monsters, but needed Sonic to power/pilot it. ...Wait a minute. Did that Sonic comic predict Pacific Rim?
Will you make some videos about Gamera at some point? I know some people think its just another knock off of godzilla (and the first movie certainly is) but later on (and i do not say this lightly) the movies are actually better than some of the best godzilla movies. And even tho its suitmation for the most part, it looks so much better than the godzilla movied ever did. So much darker and just...scarier. And some of the creature designs are just *chefs kiss*
Yes absolutely! I’m actually saving Gamera because I’ve only seen the Heisei movies. So when I watch everything else it will literally be the first time for me
This is one of my favorite Godzilla Movies and I was quick to snap up the Blu Ray that Miramax released of it (which was based on the uncut English version the VHS and Laser Disc ones used a cut down version). It's now like impossible to find it. But yeah this one of my favorite in the series.
I remember in Sonic Adventure when we have to fight Perfect Chaos, as soon as I saw his design, I said to myself, "So he's a water monster version of Biollante"
Biollante vs Godzilla theme, inspiring the design for Sonic Adventure 1's Perfect Chaos. Biollante is really cool and should definitely come back somehow.
I remember the vhs at walmart too, it was rated R. I was 10 walking up to the cashier really to buy my vhs, she looked at the rating and asked me how old I was. Telling her the true and being completely oblivious to the rating she let me buy it anyways.
I completely agree with you Klayton, I do think Biollante is one of the most scariest monsters in the series but ironically not for her second form but for her Rose form. Not joke her Rose form scared the hell out of me when I was little, I literally used to hide behind the coach every time she was on screen lol. And every time Godzilla would burn her during the end of their first fight I was like "Take that you evil spawn of SATAN!!!!!". 🌹😅🛋 (Also now I want to get the special effects book of Maguma) 📘🦭
I've honestly never seen this movie. For some reason it never aired on TV, but the other Heisei Godzilla movies did. Biollante does have an awesome design and I wish it was playable in Godzilla: Save the Earth, but oh well.
Biollante is my favorite Godzilla movie ever made. I still have my original VHS copy of this movie on a shelf. I think scariest monster design next to this would have to be Destroyah just in size and design alone
Godzilla Vs Biollante, still my favorite Godzilla movie. Most definitely in my top 3 out of all the films. Still watch it several times a year (3-7 times).
Biolante had an amazing and frightening design indeed! Something of a Crocodilan plant abomination that towers over our main man Godzilla...its as awe-inspiring as it was was terrifying! Its AMAZING!!!!
The scariest for me is probably destororyah, one of the first Hesia movies I saw as a young kid, still am just older,it destororyah scared the life out of me in all his forms.
Japanese cinema was the very pinnacle of cardboard sets and rubber monsters, nobody else even came close. Stan Winston Studios used to keep a reference library of Godzilla films for training artists.
Also I heavily agree with Biollante's design being perfect enough that she could easily have been in her own standalone horror scifi film, Japanese or American, and become an iconic creature.
I agree with this idea
I agree 100%

Biollante is probably the most Resident Evil of Godzilla's villains.
I remember the cover catching my eye at blockbuster and renting it when I was a kid in the 90’s
I bought the deluxe bandai toy of this monster back when it came out in 92 one of my favorite vinyls in my collection the sculp is gorgeous
So when I watch everything else it will literally be the first time for me
@@Dragoncurve fantastic, ill look forward to it. Hope you enjoy as much as i did as a kid xD
This is one of my favorite Godzilla Movies and I was quick to snap up the Blu Ray that Miramax released of it (which was based on the uncut English version the VHS and Laser Disc ones used a cut down version). It's now like impossible to find it. But yeah this one of my favorite in the series.
Stop motion is sick. 12/10.
I remember in Sonic Adventure when we have to fight Perfect Chaos, as soon as I saw his design, I said to myself, "So he's a water monster version of Biollante"
Biollante is one of the most memorable and broken Kaiju of the series IMHO. She's literally immortal.
Biollante vs Godzilla theme, inspiring the design for Sonic Adventure 1's Perfect Chaos. Biollante is really cool and should definitely come back somehow.
It's unfortunate that they went toward, "The Terminator," with their sub-plot, but this is an excellent movie. I still have a VHS copy.
2:48 King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)*
I bought this as a kid a long time ago in a store.. it was between this or Godzilla vs King Kong. Glad I chose this one lol
(Also now I want to get the special effects book of Maguma) 📘🦭
A youtuber that is a Godzilla fan said that one of designers that work on the biolante's teeth was a dentist.
The monsters from the fan made creepypasta are the most scary.
Are you gonna review CC S5 on Your Jurassic Channel ?
This was the first ever Godzilla movie I ever got to watch
Its the lighting and shadow that do it for me
Godzilla Vs Biollante, still my favorite Godzilla movie. Most definitely in my top 3 out of all the films. Still watch it several times a year (3-7 times).
My favorite Godzilla film......wish they would put it on TV again!
I rented this one from the movie rental place about once every three months as a kid
Biolante had an amazing and frightening design indeed! Something of a Crocodilan plant abomination that towers over our main man Godzilla...its as awe-inspiring as it was was terrifying! Its AMAZING!!!!
The scariest for me is probably destororyah, one of the first Hesia movies I saw as a young kid, still am just older,it destororyah scared the life out of me in all his forms.
yea he was scary a couple of times lol. But he is mostly awesome!
@@joeysullivanTM yea
Funnily enough, The only monster I've ever to have nightmares of was Gamera's Gyaos, Specifically the silhouette of it.
1995 Gyaos was scary asf
The score for this movie is equally as impressive.
Japanese cinema was the very pinnacle of cardboard sets and rubber monsters, nobody else even came close.
Stan Winston Studios used to keep a reference library of Godzilla films for training artists.
I remember playing Super Godzilla on SNES as a kid , and getting my ass beat by biollante. Such a cool design and really stuck with me.
Fun fact about Biollante: Sega liked the design of this kaiju so much they based Perfect Chaos, the final boss of Sonic Adventure in 1998, on it.
