Hey buddy you do a great job. If you ever come to ajijic contact me I can drive you through the backstreets no problem.
You should have been a therapist. I had a week full of struggles and disappointments and was feeling so depressed until I watched your video. Now I'm smiling and feeling good again!
Thank you for your videos and sharing your life with us. God Bless you and your wife.
Thank you i really appreciate the kind words. So happy that my humble story was enough to make you feel a lot better 🙂
This guy is like a super hero.
Thanks brother that means a lot. But as you already know I'm nothing special, I'm just one man with a crazy story that is just only now getting to the halfway point. 😎
Jose, I am catching up on past videos. Your story is amazing and your personality is incredible. I am so glad you found a home in Mexico. I'm a fan!
Thank you so much! Welcome aboard!
You continue to work hard and enjoy life and it shows. Well deserved. Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate that! Muchas Gracias!
Thankyou Jose, interesting story, keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gracias from Texas 👍
🙂
Good shit brother
Muchas Gracias!
I enjoyed the whole story in one place, of course I have caught bits and pieces from other videos... my favorite part is your love story with Christian.. she is a strong woman who knows what she wants and she wanted YOU! That is a wonderful blessing that most people could only hope for! My favorite part of your cooking show was her doing the taste test and giving a number between one and ten... when she would say and 11 or above I always laughed... so cool! and YES a book is a great idea!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I hope to bring back the cooking channel one day. I have it on the back burner as the saying goes
My journey took me from growing up in the Sea Islands of South Carolina up to Milwaukee, to Madison, to Chicago, then finally to Mexico City for residency.
Regarding what happened in Texas, the Cato Institute ranked Texas 49 out of 50 in personal freedom; the U.S. is drowning in petty rules
Wow Thanks for sharing your journey too! Also thanks for those stats. 49th out of 50 sounds about right
Thanks for sharing your life story with us. You're a real person with ups and downs. Your story will give courage to people of all ages in their own struggles.
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video from Oklahoma I noticed ur truck needs shocks while watching 👍
Thanks! Looking into starting a "Truck Fund" Soon 😅
Money gives you options and what to choose.
Money is just a tool. Learn to use it wisely
Happy birthday Jose. Keep the videos coming me and the wife enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you! I really appreciate it! Glad you guys enjoy them so much! Thank you for the well wishes!
Jose, finally saw this, I have so many things in common with you, maybe why I like your channel, my pops worked the day he died from a heart attack, he was 59, I was 25, I also am no stranger to adversity and working at an early age but also not a victim, I heard a quote I want to share because I know you can relate, here it is.: "The only hole you can't dig yourself out of is your Grave." Thanks for being an inspiration to help others dig their way out.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video. I wish I could have said more, I honestly should start writing a book soon. Glad my experiences have been able to help out so many, it honestly makes it even sweeter in the end. Thanks again for all the love and support!
Hey ,,, thanks Jose ,,,algorithms,,😉
😎
Heard your story before. I admire your honesty. I like your videos. Thanks for what you do 👍🇲🇽
I appreciate that. Thank you
I couda been a contenda!
😅
As a Mexican I hope we treat you with love and respect because you're an amazing person. Your journey needs a book, I admire your bravery and the way you educate people about Mexico. This is cool other people have weird ideas about us. I'm also being educated by you I've been watching your videos like a marathon 🤣
Thats so awesome! Thank you for sharing! Mexico has treated me better than family in most cases and I am constantly surprised by how amazing the people and this country truly are. I feel honored to be accepted by such a wonderful and amazing country filled with some of the best people I have ever met in my life. No matter where in Mexico I am I am constantly pleasantly surprised. Thanks again for the kind words! Viva Mexico!

I know this is a controversial question in the United States but do you consider yourself mestizo?
@@vanesssadiaz4612 i consider myself Cuban more than anything else. Not mestizo both my parents have family trees all coming out of Spain.
@@JoseArteagaTravels Cool Cubans are special people in my opinion 🥰 There's a book that would explain my question. "El perfil del hombre y la cultura en México."
@@vanesssadiaz4612 Awesome! i gotta check it out!
I like your videos because you're real and you actually live in Mexico full-time. Thus it gives an accurate p.o.v. I have watched others who say retire in Mexico, but in reality, they are not full - time residents. I feel they are just people taking advantage of the economics. Perhaps raping the lifestyle and people. I bit the Mexicans who work for those people, must go home and say- i' m working at a gringos house and I and my family can't live like that. I had the same experience when I lived in the Dominican Republic.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you are enjoying my videos and my content! Thank you so much for sharing!
Watching this video I want to watch more and support you more, regards Brian
Sounds Awesome! Good thing i have over 1,000 videos for you to check out!
Just discovered and enjoy your channel. Clever how you drive viewers around while narrating. Notice how your frequent use of the phrase "long story short", actually lengthens the story?
Welcome aboard! Some might say it's one of my catchphrase's. You should check out my long story short t-shirts I got for sale! 😅
Thank you for sharing your story 🙂 glad you are finally living a stable comfortable life 🤙
Thank you!
todos tienen una historia. el tuyo es muy interesante
Muchas gracias!
...........and now I have to go find pictures of your wifey! lol Do you have wedding pictures that you can show us? Is your wife's family from Merida? Do they live near you/have a relationship with you guys? Is there a video about where you guys live now, how you found your current home? I watched one video a long time ago where you lived in a very small house, as a bachelor, pretty far out of town I think. I remember your bedroom was upstairs. I love your channel and have subscribed.
Check out the rest of the channel for our wedding video and more videos!
@@JoseArteagaTravels I found the one that showed you moving in to your current place (I think), but I couldnt find a wedding video. Link?

One day I will make a complete video or even write a book and i promise i wont skip over anything
Throwing potatoes at my head. 😂😂I lived that working restaurants in Fort Lauderdale in the 90s. So true.
I will never forget Chef Moe 😂
I like your story brother. You should run for Mayor of Mérida one day and continue the journey.... I'll vote for you.
Thanks! I think I would be better suited for Mayor of My UA-cam Channel. I can barely handle this let alone a full city! Thanks for the vote of confidence though! Un Abrazo!

What part of Cuba was your parents from? Cuba is beautiful (as a tourist). I’ve been several times.
From Havana
Had the best ice cream ever in Havana.
Hola Jose, Disfrutó de tu historia. I like the new channel and I’ll be down there July to visit but down permanently by the end of this year. I lived in Tijuana from 1998 to 2004 and learned Spanish and love the food, women, and the people and their Heretage. I’ve dated women and lived or vacationed in a few different parts like Puerto Vallarta, Leon, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City and so I feel more at home in Mexico. I’m going to get consultation time once I’ve listed my questions. I have a long and interesting life of experiences traveling and living in Mexico, Columbia and The Dominican Republic. Like I said before, I really feel you’ve found your Program. I’ve been watching you and others speaking about living in Mexico for several years and I now like your channel the best. Your style, subject matter and your videography is raw but well done. I’m sold on Merida, I’m just planning my exit.
Muchas gracias! Thanks for sharing! Saludos Amigo!
I am so glad I learned more about your journey. Thanks. Amazing! I am from Los Angels and am thinking about Mexico for my retirement. Thanks for all the info. I am also really glad things worked out so well for you. You deserve it for sure. Great channel. Thanks again, buddy. I may be in touch at some point for some consultation. Take care, young man.
That's awesome! Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks Jose. I really enjoyed this content. I moved to El Tezal, (Cabo San Lucas) a couple of months ago and live here permanently. To make this short, I served in the USN out of Charleston SC. On the Daniel Webster SSBN 626. One time driving to get on the sub for a 120 day deployment I got pulled and was fined $25 dollars for not having my license on me. I got the ticket and gave that and the $25 to someone to handle for me. Well, they didnt. 4 years later a deputy sheriff showed up at 11pm and arrested me. Had the kid with me so they threatened to call social services. Luckily my neighbor helped. Such BS. Eventually it was all thrown out.
Keep up the great work and start writing that book.
Wow Not only was giving you a ticket wrong but also 4 years later showing up at 11pm over not having your license..... as if they didnt know where you lived..... lol just horrible. Anyways glad to hear you are all safe and sound in good old Mexico! Thanks for sharing!
You would think they would mail something to you. One time I had my car towed in San Francisco. I knew it was in tow away but I got there just a bit too late. The police and tow trucks work really fast. I walked to where my car was at and I got in line. I thought the money I paid at the location covered the towing and ticket. The tow trucks coming in and the persons working at the location were working like a pit crew. Quick and efficient. There was a cop there collecting the money. But the fine wasn't part of the payment at the location. I got a letter months later telling me that a warrant for my arrest will happen if I don't pay the fine. At least the fine payment was included with the letter. So, I took care of it.
dang I can relate with the cop thing. I'm the first male in a few generations of my family to never go to jail and I had to pull some serious rabbits out of my ass over the years just to achieve that. And I'm a regular law abiding citizen and cops still gave me a hard time. Second last week I was in the US, i was sitting in my car that I was door dashiing in, and ate some food, watched a youtube video and talked to a friend of mine on the phone as part of a lunch break in a parkinglot of a grocery store and out of nowhere a Karen walked up to my door and threatened to call the cops on me because somehow what I was doing was suspicious. After I left, it turns out she DID call the cops on me and the cops followed me around town for a while haha. But down here in Mexico, I can walk down the sidewalk everyday without a gun in my pocket and STILL feel safe and the cops that patrol my area, are so used to seeing me every day going on walks for exercise that they honk and wave at me. Just a few weeks ago a female cop was flirting with me haha. I'm NEVER going back to the USA lol.
Thanks for sharing! Viva Mexico!
Your story brought tears to my eyes, and brings back memories. There is no freedom in the United States. My brother was obsessed with coming to America, and no matter what I said about how dangerous it was to live in America as a black person, he didn't believe me. All he imagined here was the ridiculous artificial, frivolous material things here, so he left his job as a car salesman in Jamaica, and came to the States. He told me that not long after he arrived, he was waiting for his wife in a shopping center parking lot, and thought something smelled bad, so he moved to a different area of the parking lot to get away from that smell, as soon as he pulled out, he heard a siren, it was a police woman, who accused him of being suspicious, and she needs his i.d, he refused, and she threatened to arrest him. He complied. And she also wanted to search his car. Needless to say, he realized he made a mistake in coming to America. He later died at the age of 42 from cancer. He was working so hard, eating badly, hardly any rest, and met his demise in the America he craved so much. Sorry for the long story.
I feel you blessed friend !

Hola! Just discovered your channel, your videos are super helpful and interesting. I'm from Ukraine (and yup I'm in Ukraine now) so currently I'm looking for a place to try a new life in the future. You know save some money and run away from everything... I know it's not a popular destination for Ukrainians, most people would choose European countries, but I was interested in Mexico for some time and randomly choose Mérida and decided to search some info about it(and that's how I found you haha) And the way you describe Mexican life it really feels different but yet so close to Ukrainian way of living, the way I used to and the way I like it. Wish I can make it there one day :) Perdón my bad Eng.
Welcome aboard! Yes I love eastern Europe and the more I seethe rest of the world the more i notice how similar we all are and all live. At the end of the day I think most people are just looking to be left alone to live their lives, and this is a great place to do it in. Good luck on your journey!
Your English is fantastic.

Great video! I think Mexicans are taught to value family, in America people are taught to worship things.
Thanks!
Very well said. That's why this black American feels so much freer in Mexico.
Can you do a vid about entering Mexico , getting your tourist visa and your early days in Mexico? THANKS
I have! Check out my earlier videos and check out my other channel and you can see how I did it all. I literally filmed the whole journey from LA to Mexico. You can retrace my steps enjoy!
I tried your old vids but they don't pull up well on my 5g android phone. Can you post a link,?

Shit man. Interesting. I'm Mexican American, and I went to Colombia it was a bit awkward knowing everyone knew I wasn't from there. Haha. I was only there for a month though.
Thanks for sharing brother!
You seem like a great guy. I am sure your wife is happy that she found you.
Thank you! We are both very happy we found each other. She is also amazing in her own right. Thank you for the kind words
The scariest part of my drive from the US to Mexico was driving through Texas 😂
Facts lol
I also think that the same area you got arrested in Texas is the same area that the UA-camr Young Mike got arrested.
Never heard of him, but yeah trust me i found out while i was there I was not the first nor the last one to go through something like that there. Horrible experience 0 stars on yelp lol
If you don't mind me asking how did you get your job in the cannabis industry in the first place?
When I moved to Seattle it was when It first became Legal so there was a HUGE Boom over night. The opportunities literally landed on my lap and so I just went with them. After so many years in the kitchen i needed a break and something new so this came at the perfect time. There is so much more details missing about my time in Seattle like there is with the rest of my story because well its just too much to fit into a measly 50 min, but eventually I will tell my Full and Complete story and make sure to add all the details. But long story short I was already a consultant in the restaurant industry and by the time i got into the cannabis industry I was doing basically that and helping as many people as i can start up their start ups. So yeah it was a fun and glorious time that came to an abrupt end the minute the politicians decided to take full control of the cannabis industry and leave everyone else out of it.
Sounds like my food truck experience. Everyone thinks they’re an expert.
Yup its in just about everything in life, the ones that know the least are the ones that seem to know the most lol 😅
I once went into photography but found I could not put up with the negatives....

Did you give up your US citizenship?
No I did not. I am Still a US Citizen. In fact even if wanted to give it up I don't think The US Gov would allow me. Seems like you have to go through an exit interview, pay a bunch of money, and go through a bunch of other "fun stuff" for them to finally allow you to renounce your US Citizenship. Only country in the world that doesn't allow you to just give up your citizenship...... kinda weird if you ask me.....
What kind of business did you have in 2008 that you lost?
I had a catering business. I was a Chef my whole life so by that time I had already started to set up my small catering business "Cuban Delights"
@@JoseArteagaTravels I know it's probably a stereotype (?), but did you serve cuban sandwiches? I love those (I know they're from miami).
