For me personally it was about my Mental Wealth. Had to get away from the constant media division and political BS. Since moving to Mexico my overall health has improved greatly. I have lost weight and am no longer on meds. It is difficult to watch the news from where I am from, 5 minutes and its off. Used to watch/listen to the news for hours a day.
Thank you so much for sharing!
We plan on making a trip this summer to look around Merida. We have no idea where to start. We like a quiet neighborhood and maybe be able to walk to the local shopping
Great insight.....it encourages me
I’ve had the same experience, in some ways the life in Mexico can be so much more tranquillo - more wealthy as Jose has been saying.
Good for you!!!! The stress levels here are unbelievable🇺🇸 😢
Great video! Hubby and I escaped from Australia just over 2 years ago with our 3 dogs to Mexico. Everything you are saying is true! Communism is sweeping the world and we saw things happening we never thought we'd see in our lifetime. I hope Mexico can maintain it's soviergnty. I definitely think the west has had it. Mexico is great for now.
Thank you for the kind words! Thanks for sharing! Viva Mexico!
Blonde Truther. so now, US goverment want to invade Mexico!!
Thankfully, Mexico is rich in common sense! Thanks for another great video Jose!
Yes it is! Mexico is very Rich in many things which are not even measured! Viva Mexico! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome anytime friend
What city is this?
Yes definitely, move because you get more freedom. I also noticed I lost 28 lbs(11 kg) in the 3 months I've been here so thats a plus. 👍
Wow! That is awesome! Congratulations!

@@alphadog9822 Jose lives in Merida.
Literally!! I stayed in Mexico for three weeks and lost tones of weigh my skin started to glow..it’s probably the fact that the MX gov banned GMOs all together…?
I use a “witch doctor” for most of my medical needs. They are very honest about when I need traditional doctors. It is super rare that I might need to get medical resources from the US.
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
I have been seeing many youtubers from Canada, the USA, Germany, etc. It is very sad how they talk about their situation in their countries and they saw a life like this as normal where they earned good money in their jobs but they did not know that they were not happy, but when they decided to leave and arrived in Mexico They opened their eyes to another reality and to work to live, it is very sad that there are people living like this, in Mexico life is not perfect but you live happily even if you don't make as much money there are other things That they are more important than money, hopefully your viewers who feel suffocated or unhappy in their first world countries take that step and turn their lives around and realize that there is a way to To be happy and live peacefully 😢
Thank you so much for understanding and your very kind words. Yes our countries are not what it used to be and the reality is that what most people really want is a high quality of life, something that does not exist in our countries anymore. That is why more and more people are coming to Mexico simply because they just want to live their lives and live like many Mexicans do with peace and family. Thanks you so much for sharing! Viva Mexico!
Hola Jose Bro !! I love it how Mexico puts high sodium/sugar labels on every can and package, it wasn't til I stayed in Mexico for a few weeks to find out a lot of the same products I was consuming in USA were unhealthy with high sodium...
Yes I love that too! I also love how even lots of those junk foods also have less chemicals in them and in fact most ingredients even though bad for you are mostly natural. Not going to lie but the thing that has improved the most for me in the 5 years I have been living in Mexico has been my health. It is night and day to what it used to be. It's incredible to even fathom. In fact I could never really see me living in the US ever again because I simply would not know what to eat anymore...... Thank goodness for Mexico!
In the US, if we did that politicians would get voted out because they are suppressing “freedom” 😂😂😂
@@JoseArteagaTravels You know it Bro, you look healthy !! Love it also no gmo grown corn in Mexico, Mexico gave the middle finger to Monsanto and their glyphosate poison...makes us wanna eat more tacos in Mexico !!
Jose, you’re right about the loud parties, I learned just to live with it. When l have parties no has ever complained, is some cases they come over to introduce them selves to us. And yes, they become friends and very helpful when I need a contact for repair work or other matters.😊
Exactly! Viva Mexico! As the old saying goes if it's too loud just leave! 😅 Thanks for sharing!
I think Puerto Rico may have Mexico beat with loud parties!
I love how they put barriers on the bike lane. Thats awesome! I love your video's José!
Yes those are relatively new in many parts of the city. Huge improvement for all those who rely on bicycles to get around these busy streets
Love this video Jose! We meet all reasons you mentioned, actively working on a plan now!

Hi. I enjoy your posts so much. Thank you so much for being here for all of us who want to live in Mexico. Soon, soon!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Really good down to earth info. All of this has been my experience and I see myself in the new people moving here. Living in these colonias, picking up just a bit of spanish, shopping in those little tiny corner stores. Walking around your area, pausing to chat with people. These folks want to get to know you but may feel a bit shy like you an I. I like this video!! Thanks Jose.
Thank you for the kind words! Glad the video was so helpful! Saludos!

My niece is dying to live in the US. She has a great life in Zapopan. Her husband gives her $5000 pesos a week for spending money. We tell her that the US is not what she is thinking. I guess she will just have to go and learn a lesson. Ugh.
Sometimes you just gotta go see it for yourself. As the old saying goes the grass is always greener on the other side
Oh that’s great! She won’t like the environment she’s going to be in when she’s in the US. Some people never make it out alive
Youd rather live in a cartel infested shitehole lmao have fun buddy
Let her come to the US and suffer like the rest of us. The American dream is dead .
Why? What makes the US such a terrible place? I keep hearing that life there is some kind of horror movie, while Mexico is like the most wonderful place on Earth. As a Mexican, I do not understand it.
Thanks! I have been watching your vids for a while now. I feel bad this is the first time I've put something in the pot. You remind me of some childhood schoolmates I grew up with. I visited Merida last winter. It was the first time I felt I had found "my place."
Thank you so much! Glad my videos have been so helpful! Glad you found home in Merida 🙂
I'm motivated to come for the culture, people, and quality of life. We're semi-retired, and have a cute little paid off house in our home country. There may come a day when our income won't go as far, and we'll have to move! Plan to live in Mexico at least part of the year. I grew up in Latin America and miss the culture.❤

Wow interesting story! Thanks for sharing!
I'm Australian retired and can't afford to rent here without renting out rooms to people, the rent is almost as much as my SS, I have no quality of life sharing with people who don't care about my belongings or property.

I am definitely interested in retiring in Mexico, I still have two years left but I've been watching a lot of videos. I think Mexico seems like an amazing place to retire. Thank you for this very helpful video
Glad the video is so helpful!
I’m in the same boat as you. I am eligible to retire in 1 year 10 months. I’ve achieved financial freedom/debt free 7 years ago. It’s been a blessing and true freedom. Just waiting for a pension.
Mexico has lots of availabe jobs for everyone....It is said to have a booming economy from here to the 30 years ahead.
Sure they might have a lot of jobs, but the wages are terrible. That is why most people prefer to just start their own business. Thanks for sharing!
@@JoseArteagaTravels you're right, Jose. Especially in Merida. Wages there are one of the lowest in the country. But for a person who decides to immigrate to Mexico with only a buck but with all that energy usually a new immigrant carries with him or her, the salary in Mexico averages $16,000 per month in another Mexican state, and that is a good start. Then he or she can escalte, as you say to start a his or her own busines.... I believe he or she can make it. You know, it all takes determination and never give up.

Well bro, im Mexcian American, born and raised here in the states. I was lucky because my parents and my family always made sure i experienced life both in the states and in Mexico. I lived in both countries off and on my entire life. One thing i always have known in my life; I always planned to retire in Mexico. Now im realizing that dream. I am wealthy, yes. made my wealth here in the states. At 47, I am in the process of buying a home in my favorite beach town in Sonora. Simpler way of life is true. Ill keep my house in the states for sure. I need somewhere to keep all my cars lol. Pero, mi Mexico Lindo? That is my home. and i want to live out my days there.
That is Awesome! Thanks for sharing! Viva Mexico!
I lived in Mexico in 1968 as a child, its people are their best asset. I wish to return before Mexico builds the wall, pays for it, and keeps us out. USA is getting harder and harder.
Thanks for sharing! Good luck to you
Excellent video Jose, thanks.
Mexico checks off all of the boxes for me but one. That box is the litter problem that is pervasive in the country. I see the litter in your video and I have seen it in many parts of Mexico. For a people that are so respectful of each other, the family unit, foreigners, I just do not understand why that respect does not extend itself out into the streets and beyond.
I am trying to make peace with this garbage littering issue but asking about it appears to be a taboo subject in my experience. What do you advise?
My advice is that the more expensive the neighborhood the less likely that will be a problem.

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Jose, another great video keep it up man.
I was wondering what's the typical cost savings from buying fruit in the mercados vs in the grocery stores in Mexico?
Most small mercados and tiendas don't post prices and if you don't know very much Spanish and you look like a richer tourist, sometimes they will give you precios gringo. Stay with the markets until you get know the price of things and your Spanish is good enough to call them out if they try it. Learn some phrases that you can blurt out quickly and not measured like "No quiero precios gringo" (add esta ves!" if applicable) followed by "Ire a otro lugar" seems to work. If they don't give you a break say "Bueno, podria haber sido un buen cliente" and walk out. They are still very inexpensive at the bigger markets. Buena suerte!
They are much cheaper. I really cant tell you an exact price but I would say 30-50% less in many cases sometimes more.
@@davidsebastianelli1326 Thanks for the advice but I was just wondering if you could give me an average of what to expect. for example if One mango is 20 cents or about 4 pesos in the grocery store than how much would it be in the smaller mercados, 3 pesos ? 2 pesos? 1 peso? what is the typical discount compared to the larger stores.
What should I expect a 25%, a 50%, maybe only a 10% reduction?
Thanks.
That's not always the case David. That happens more in areas with many expats or touristy areas. It does not happen in regular neighborhoods where you are the only foreigner. Also remember Mexico is a huge country and not every place is going to treat foreigners the same. But in my experience I have never had any kind of price increase in any of small local stores no matter where In Mexico I've been
@@JoseArteagaTravels That's awesome, especially when considering the price of fruit even getting it at the large grocery stores in Mexico is usually 1/4th the price of grocery stores in the US.
Love that u drive thru areas. Don't see lots of people. (prob cause it's so hot during day or they're at work) .Thanks for being REAL.
Yes that is mostly why streets are mostly empty due to the heat and people are out working or in school or I am simply taking a Sunday drive. But I have many other videos where you see tons of people in them as well. Thanks for sharing!

You don't need a water heater in Merida!
Yes you do. If it rains outside the water will be ice cold same as when Winter is here and its 65 outside. Water heater is not used year round but it is a good idea to have one unless you like ICE COLD Showers when the temperature drops

If you are an entrepreneur and your income is not dependent on the country then yes, Mexico is great. For a native Mexican surviving on Mexican wages it's tough.
That is why most Mexicans opt in to opening up their own business and being their own boss boss instead of working for someone else. Thanks for sharing!
Yes but it depends on what you do for a living. I do pretty ok, but family, they really good. Some people just get by. It's all relative.

Isn’t the peso about to be backed up by gold? Is that really true?
I love the ability to bike all over the place. Brings me back to childhood. here in USA city where I live most people have to go somewhere to cycle safely. It’s just not a cycle-friendly infrastructure or terrain. The city is trying but it is what it is. The places you’re cycling to in this video; is it normally so sparsely populated?
Mérida sure looks appealing but the temperatures might be a dealbreaker for me. I’d need to find a more temperate zone of 65-85F!
Normally there would be tons more people out but I was biking on a Lazy Sunday afternoon with a 105 Temp outside. Even my wife thought I was crazy for going out for a ride in the park that day 😅
Are you on an e-bike? Would you share your bike camera setup?
I'm a regular Bike with a GoPro 11

More nonsense coming from one of our most idiotic pols (along with Cruz and Graham) that we’re best served to just ignore.
As for me, I eat way better in Mexico than I ever did in the States. So do others… based on the weight loss comments I’m seeing in this thread.

Are there many RVs coming that way? I'm curious about RV parks or building one.Thanx
I honestly have no idea. I have seen a few people in RV's and Campers but not like you see in the USA. Perhaps in other parts of Mexico but not so much way down south where I am
@@JoseArteagaTravels that's what I figured being so far south. Thanx for the reply
Some people find it more economical and overall safer just to park the RV and rent a little place. I'm sure if you really like staying in your RV you could find someone who would rent out their driveway or part of their yard to park it in.
The west coast beach towns seem to have a proliferation of RV villages. I’ve personally seen them in Tecolote (Baja Sur) and Melaque (Jalisco).

I guess that dude won't complain anymore!
Jaja yeah he is not that well liked in the neighborhood so when that happened most of the neighbors were happy with much glee to hear he got what was coming to him.
I agree with you, foreigners can come and restore that balance (which I think is being lost in cities like CDMX) between working and living life... recover that relevance of family life that they had in the 50s or 60s in the USA . Humility is very important for integration. Mexican society despises arrogance, even in some places it can provoke aggressive rejection. I recommend that you be "the nice gringo" cool and not with an elitist attitude of only living with Americans and I live where all the Americans live and we create a colony of Americans because that is going to generate a caste division and the history of Mexico has been a Fight against the caste system. There are social classes yes, but there is no particular group that forms the upper social classes. Integration is the key. And it is important that foreigners also contribute culture to the communities they arrive at because that way there is a growing cultural richness... Greetings and good luck.
Thank you for sharing!

Definitely we Gringo's have more Freedoms in Mexico. We can say things even Mexican's have a hard time hearing from Mexican's. Whyt 1.) We don't really know in depth the Political situations here in Mexico - so they know we just said "something stupid". 2.) They're so used to Gringo's saying dumb things, because we don't really know what's going on. 3.) That hey are so used to hearing these dumb comments for over 100 years - that there are actually famous expressions in Spanish, that describe this. Mexico on average is 300% safer than living in USA! Staying away from the border areas, Michoacan, parts of Guanajuato near Ceyala, certain neighborhoods of CDMX - and some big cities after midnight. It is a whole lot safer in Mexico.

FROOT LOOPS 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Stop stealing MY jokes LOL
Jaja Sorry!
Beating someone up is a crime far worse than asking people to turn down some music. It should have been taken seriously by the police.
This is why I make these videos so people dont get any illusions or false expectations. If you can not handle how things are taken care of in Mexico then perhaps Living in Mexico is not for you.
Good to know the reality, Jose, thank you. My main take away is that I wouldn’t tell the neighbours to turn it down! 😉
Shooting someone because they rang the wrong doorbell (in the USA) is far worse than beating someone up that came to your house and threatened you. Police coming over and shooting and killing people before asking questions (in the USA) is way worse!
I'm retired I just want to go somewhere and live where I can be left alone. 😊
Sounds like a plan!

Correct! That is great advice!
I’ve lived in Latin America for three years, over a year in Mexico, and visited all but 4 of the states. It’s a diverse country for sure, but some things are the same throughout, albeit to varying degrees. I will tell you that this is not a safe country - according to many stats, the least safe in Latin America. Most political and social institutions are corrupt to the core. You might be able to find an expat niche, a well-secured residence, or a peaceful town, but the corruption and mistrust will always be present. Money can disappear from your bank account. The police can pull you over for a made up infraction and extort you for up to hundreds of dollars and potentially “impound” (i.e. steal) your vehicle if you don’t comply. Food inflation is not the worst in Latam, but it’s enough to mean tensions are increasing. Being able slip through the cracks of a disorganized system or bribe your way out of things may make you feel more free sometimes, but everything is fine until it’s not. Women go missing every day in cities in all parts of the country. People who do not keep a low profile can be kidnapped. If you get into legal troubles you cannot rely on a functional judicial system to ensure a fair outcome. You constantly have to be mistrusting of people’s intentions and be wary of scams. In the worst areas, people live in fear and do not keep their business open or go out after 6pm (I’ve seen this first hand in places like Acayucan). Mexico is a fun place to travel or take a holiday and visit nature or ancient sites, but living here is not likely to live up to what UA-camrs sell to you to get views. You might enjoy a geoarbitrage opportunity if you earn from the US and live in Mexico, but it’s not safe to domicile that money here because info can be shared making you a target, and if your foreign earnings dry up you will either have to learn dishonest tactics and take on a lot of risk to survive as an entrepreneur, or join the regular Mexicans who work the longest hours in Latin America (weekends are normally just one day) to earn very little. There are many wonderful people and aspects of the culture, but even these people will tell you that the majority in this country are not good people. It’s a textbook narcostate and it will affect you if you live here long term. I feel terrible for my Mexican friends who are trying to push forward as good people and live an honest life, when the rest are ruining it for them. I wish I could post an optimistic message, but I don’t see things like the corruption improving anytime soon, although the country does have better demographics than most richer countries, and might benefit from the shift towards a multipolar world. Under the right circumstances you might make a great life for yourself here. But it’s certainly not a paradise and these things that the UA-camrs neglect to mention need to be discussed
I honestly thought you were talking about the USA the whole time! 😅 Thanks for sharing!
@@JoseArteagaTravels I could talk a lot more about what’s messed up and what’s wonderful about Mexico. Personally I’m selling up moving on from here in a couple of weeks, but keeping on eye on things to decide if I return to convert my residence document into permanent ones. I agree the US is in dire straits, and there will be a big decline in living standards, but I think so far things seem mainly limited to big cities in blue states. I’m not from the US but I don’t think many of the things I’ve described about Mexico apply to US; there is still a strong ethical backbone in much of the country, and it’s also likely they will recover from this crisis to emerge as a *relatively* wealthy country simply due to how amazing the country’s geography is, and how much intellectual capital is there. Mexico is geographically beautiful but it simply doesn’t compare to the US, the inner cordillera and lack of navigable rivers makes it very hard to traverse, plus cultural differences (people are more visceral and focused on the arts rather than sciences etc). There is a reason people still want to migrate in hordes from here to the US. Let me know where you agree and disagree ;)
No regulations, no rules = more corruption.
@@Bcbweb thank you for your honesty i asked myself if it is that amazing why are American mexicans not moving back
YES YES YES WHAT EVER YOU SAID OR WROTE YES YES YES STAY WHERE YOU ARE MEXICO NO FOR YOU AND MY MEXICO IT DOSEN"T NEED YOUR PROPAGANDA YES YES YES
Those “annoying” housing regulations in the US are mostly for public safety. What you call “freedom to do what you want” could be creating deadly living conditions. My sister was on vacation in Mexico when there was a near-fatal gas explosion in the home they were renting. They were fortunate to have survived. 😢
Again everyone views Safety and Freedom very differently. I'll take my chances with more Freedom and Less Safety. Thanks again for sharing!
Surprising amount of western women on Tinder here in Merida. 1 out of 25 women.

We can have a SIMPLE LIFE here in the U.S.A.. As a society we CHOSE to live in the rat race we have created! Some of you may not like this , but it's true! CITIZENS of the U.S.A. have this "sense of entitlement " Income has been be $100,00 or more a year, brand new homes. Bigger than you need or can afford. Same with cars, motorcycles, R.V.S etc. Citizens of the United States don't know how to save money either. Citizens of the United States look to the Government for hand outs! Running away to another country is not the answer. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Think about this. Who is to say that the U.S. Government will suspend S.S. payments for citizens living abroad....... Don't think that this can never happen. The dollar is no longer the currency of the world, so living In Mexico is going to get more and more expensive. In order for the United States to change, our culture needs to change. Bring manufacturer back to the United States to start. Only hire citizens of the United States, stop sending our tax dollars over seas, secure of BOARDERS, rebuild our infrastructure, make sure every citizen understands the U.S. CONSTITUTION, if you are 18 you, mandatory 2 years in the military. (Get rid of the WOKENESS in our Military and society. Bring God back into our families, schools, and Court system. This is a start, but we need to be willing and open minded for POSITIVE change, not the DEEP STATE CHANGE. "YOU WILL OWN NOTHING AND BE HAPPY, 15 Minute Cities, artificial intelligence everywhere. This country is doomed if we don't WAKE UP and FAST!!
Ok well most people do not want to wait around to see if things will change or not. When things in the US change for the better then there will be a reason to stay or even come back for some. But right now most people realize Life is SHORT and very Precious and most people want to make sure those moments are spent in a place with a very high quality of life . You are right the USA needs a major change but it is not going to happen overnight. In fact the way things are going they are only going to get much worse before they get any better. Thanks again for sharing and good luck in the USA
@@JoseArteagaTravelsWell said Jose. He sounds like he is constantly angry, pointing fingers and blaming things he has no knowledge of, or how it really works. Most of what he is angry about boils down to basic economics. He also sounds like he thinks it's an easy thing to put the toothpaste back into the tube. Right now in the US for decades with the lack of pay keeping up with cost of living everyone is feeling the effects, including the rich but especially the super rich who are the main ones responsible for holding our citizens down. There never was what Reagan called "trickle down economics" Every one who has even a small amount of knowledge on economics saw this coming years ago. Simplified, If you give a rich man one hundred dollars he will stick it in his pocket, if you give a person with modest means one hundred dollars they will spend it in their community. Things now are only good for those who were well off at the start of their lives. BTW- I'm 66 and grew up without much.... Let's just say broke, poor is state of mind. When I went to college it was almost free and a brand new custom made 3 bedroom 2 bath home cost around twenty five to thirty five thousand dollars. When I was young, the "Milkman" who delivered a gallon of milk to our front door for twenty cents, made a living wage with 3 kids and a wife at home. My first job started me at the minimum wage of $4.75 an hour, now the minimum wage in many states is still only at $7.00 an hour. The grass is only as green as you make. I could go on but its a beautiful Sunday and my neighbor's kid's just came by to give me a big bowl of their mothers home made Atun Ceviche! Hola desde Ensenada!
Very true about the USA turning into a chithole. I'm very ashamed to be an American. So sick and tired of ignorant apathetic people who accept abuse from the government. Tired of dumb wasteful people who don't live within their means. Myself I live out in the country too away from the big city and urban areas. I wish I could live in a country where people have common sense on things.
America(as in government) and Americans, are never gonna do all that stuff you just listed. My country is lost. So yes, might as well go see some other place. You are correct about the SS payments thou. Im thankful I have income from other sources.
