    Great clear, concise video. Quick (and possible dumb) question - can you just swap them like regular bulbs or do you have to power down / shut breaker off?

    Hi, my ceiling lights dont have a twist or rotation feature to remove it, it can only be tilted on single axis. Do you know how i can swap a globe? Thanks

    Oh, I wish ours came out of the ceiling like that. It's all fixed so we have to fiddle around with our arms in the air hoping to get the pins exactly in the holes. Took me just over 9 minutes for the first one I tried then half that for the second.

    I bought my house a couple years ago and didn’t pay much attention to the lights in the “newer” bathroom although I did notice they were not as efficient in lighting the space so there were four lights when the space should have had only two. The light above my toilet recently blew out. It is much more complicated then what you show here. 58 years I’ve lived in houses that never required anything more then twisting a bulb. I am so furious over this crap I may pay to have all of these psycho earth lights removed and replaced with normal lights. No one who doesn’t have a full time house manager at the mansion wants time and money inefficient bulbs.

      gazza listermint. ...Mine is stuck too...I'm going to have to replace the whole thing. No choice.
      Mine is 3 inches wide with just a frosted glass cover. I can't get to the bulb at all.
      I think that some may be made that you can't remove the lid. I see no other solution. ???
      It's a pain. Mine is in our RV.

    Bear in mind there are different types of fitting, and different types of bulb. I watched 3 videos to find one that worked for me. Sometimes you press and rotate the bulb, sometimes you pull it. Sometimes you rotate the inner besel, sometimes you pull out the whole fitting.
    It's misleading for each video to just say 'this is the way you do it'!

    thank you for the informative diy vid,,one question and its probably silly,, do you switch off the mains power to do these globe replacements? i understand the light switch should be off, but is there a danger

    • @user-fy9ij9fx2e
      @user-fy9ij9fx2e Рік тому

      You should switch it off to be 100% sure because there would be some power there in case someone messed up the wiring (and the switch cuts off the neutral) or your switch has the backlight function. The current would be low but still could be dangerous. Even if you would not be killed by it, you can fall of the ladder

    Are the sockets different for regular halogen and LED GU10 bulbs? I think I have a bad socket because the 110v GU10 50w halogen bulb only lasts a few weeks; I've replaced 5 of them in 8 months. The other 9 GU10 bulbs haven't burned out. The replacement socket I bought on eBay from China says it's an LED halogen GU10 socket. My bulbs aren't LED.

    • @damita4336

      I would try to match up bulb with a home depot product. Don't know if that would help. Home depot products overall are made for American circuitry. Ebay may be selling for European circuitry or just not be up to USA codes... not certain... just a hunch...

  • @Pgcito

    The problem I have is that the socket is stuck. I try to turn anti clockwise but it doesn’t move and there’s no grip - I have several bulbs stuck in the house at the moment 😩

      Hi Emilio!
      For more stubborn sockets we would recommend using an assistive tool, such as this GU10 suction cup.

    I'm in the same boat as many of the folks here. I've got a recessed bulb I can't seem to "push and twist" (at all), and if I try to take the cover or can (or whatever the thing the bulb is in is called), it seems that I'm going to pull the drywall down with it. It's not clear what comes out -- the bulb or the cover or the can (if it's a can). Honestly, I can't tell. What to do?

    • @alisonbowles608
      @alisonbowles608 5 років тому

      @Fuckoff Google I had to pay an electrician to come out, and it turned out to be a good thing that I did. The recessed light had a halogen bulb in it that was burning through the electrical wires thus it was a fire hazard. I paid $100 but my townhouse hasn't burned down, and then went to Home Depot for a replacement. Some of these recessed lights are not at all like these UA-cam videos, and there was no video that covered my situation. In general, I do think they are installed and taken out as indicated here, but with so many difference, sometimes we just have to spend the $$$.

    Your video is exceedingly helpful but a groaner... I didn't see the twist of the inner ring and managed to pull the whole trim/bulb assembly from the can. Now I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to get the four clips to hold the trim. Any video or insight on how to do that? I've seen lots on UA-cam but not this kind of downlight. Mine has four clips right at the bottom of the can. They are currently bent in a < . Many thanks, keep up good work.

    The led bulb in my bathroom is part of the extractor fan. It pushes up and twists to come out. I tried to replace the bulb, but the bulb is so fragile, it just disintegrated! Way too fragile! This means I’ll have to get an electrician in to change the bulb every time it goes out. The first bulb didn’t last very long at all. I’m very unimpressed.

    • @AndrewsLightUpAUS
      @AndrewsLightUpAUS  5 років тому

      Hi kahlo, there are many different types of LED globes, some do flash when the power is turned off. This is generally a discharge of the capacitor and is not a fault of the globe itself. If you are concerned, I suggest taking the globe back to where you bought it as they may offer some solutions.

    • @merimerimeri7083
      @merimerimeri7083 4 роки тому

      Mine too, and when I tried to change the bulb, I found out that the inner ring is joined to the outer one with pair of rivets. I was able to release the bulb from the inner ring, but just deeper into the ceiling and I couldn't get it out. I thought that I would need to change the whole fitting anyway, so I tried to pry it out and surprisingly it worked. :-)
