One tricks are annoying when the enemy team fully counters their hero. Then they want to complain that they are being shut down but just don’t switch to have a better chance against them. Like yesterday I had a doom tank, and the enemy team went Orisa, sombra, zen. He was getting deleted but blamed my team that we couldn’t go in. Like what are we supposed to do when you are the first to die every fight
@@lukasg4807 I don’t think you’ve played against good players because they al shut doom from traversing the map. They literally delete him unless doom is controlled by a godly person
Those one tricks aren’t the true ones. The real one tricks realize that they’re getting countered and don’t complain about it since they realize they chose to be a one trick so they have to deal with the advantages and disadvantages
Listen as much as I love playing certain hero’s you can’t always play that one hero, not every comp needs mercy or a Lucio and switching to a diff character can be game changing

As someone who is trying to relearn mercy, (although I have the most hrs on mercy it mainly came from Overwatch 1) do you have any recommendations for playing with a Lucio?
@@MonkeyBanjo7 Playing with a lucio as mercy is something I rarely do but it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE. Remember that you’re now the one that has to put out most of the healing. Generally I’d say take care of the tank a little bit more and let lucio heal your dps since they have less hp. Once everyone seems to be in an ok situation I’d say definitely go for the dmg boost! Also when fights are over I recommend letting lucio heal the whole team rather than the mercy. This’ll allow the lucio player to build beat faster since it’s more valuable for your team than valk. Heal more during the fight and mid fights all while dmg boosting if you feel like your team can afford that. But ultimately if mercy isn’t working with your lucio and you think you should switch I’d say go kiriko or ana. Kiriko probably a little more since she’s less aim intensive and adds huge value to the team! Hope this helps! :D
Hot take: most people should be two-tricking. By spreading your playtime over so many characters, you’re actively preventing yourself from getting actually good and ranking up.
Yes! I play four tanks, I'm not necessarily good at the role but my mains are dva, used to be jq bc I found her fun but not anymore... ramattra and orisa as swaps if I have to. And support is mercy/kiri, maybe not the best but I know how to play every support (just not as good at them as I am on my mains) Don't play dps but I'd go the easy hitscans
Something I found frustrating in the Beach Junkrats argument was the idea that he could just "play inside" against a Pharah. While I do agree that if he plays well enough he may never die to the Pharah, it will still be incredibly hard for him to kill the Pharah. The Pharah will then be free to kill any other heros that can't counter her. That means if the other DPS is a one-trick or just bad at hitting shots the game is basically lost or the supports have to shift drastically shift their focus. This is why playing the Tank role with one-tricks can be especially frustrating.
"play inside" while your whole team dies to the pharah then you cry about everyone else dying when not everyone has the luxury to "play inside". at the end of the day if youre playing junk into pharah, unless you can reliably hit her by mining into her then two tap her, shes just playing a 5v4 into your team and you lose almost every teamfight
@@symp_phony You 2 do make a good point, but when you are inside you aim is for you to be able to get the focus out of yoyrself, if you see the pharah is literaly focusing and harrasing the rest of you team is better if you got and try and combo her down. Not always will it work, but then she at least will be searching for you and not your team. It isn't about forgetting about a pharah, is about bringing your fight there, where you have the advantage. If she doesn't come, you go and punish her or her teammates for forgetting about you. You don't have to camp inside, you have to keep searching from value, the thing you change when a pharah appears is instead of looking for value in an open off angle, or at the side of your supports you look for it navigating through covered spaces, looking to take people by surprise, shifting their focus to, "hey, this junk just killed our support from behind, do smth". The point is, is not just hiding, is chaging where you fight, but keep fighting, keep getting value and looking for plays.
Yeah, sometimes I play mercy against heroes that kinda counter her...wouldn't say pharah counters her but a lot of them hunt for me, and if I do end up dying too many times I switch. Only problem is that I don't play the hitscan supports... just kiri
@@Lucigu888 This argument struggles to acknowledge the difference in skills across the game. The higher the skill level the more punishing an unchecked pharah is.. especially if she has the mercy pocket. Pharmercy is a very miserable time for the receiving end when left to do whatever.
@@TamWam_ youre supposed to play mercy into pharah. pharah usually has a mercy pocket which makes hitscans or any hero hard to challenge her because its essentially a 1v2 anytime they try to shoot the pharah. if you go mercy and pocket your hitscan, it makes it a 2v2 and your hitscan can win the duel.
Eh not really Only real problem are high mobility people in your backline like tracer, genji, maybe sombra or phara Lw can easily play from such safe positions and has such good escapes for just about everything else

At least with my philosophy about 1-tricks being 'healthy' is a quote from Bruce Lee " I fear not the man who practiced 10,000 kicks once. I fear the man who practiced one kick 10,000 times." 1-tricks who have like half or most of their playtime on ONE hero is a specialist. They can be really good even against unfavorable matchup. I just think it comes down to things like having a higher APM than your counter or playing slow. Constant communication that kinda thing(I'm a Cass OTP, so I am biased)
That’s just not true though is it let’s be honest. If you one trick pharah and the enemy pick all hitscans, you staying on pharah is throwing the game for your team. Not all one tricks are “specialists” and if you’re being countered heavily you should swap especially if your damage or eliminations are lacking compared to the enemy team.
@haiderz4510 tell that to yznsa, in t500, the pharah, provided they have a mercy, will straight up outplay the hitscans. This was recently true in the world cup. Or look at Chazm, a ball otp that will win games into all of his counters, due to out skilling them by utilizing his 10000 hours of ball

Even in latter you can see he plays Sojourn and Mei, and if you watch his stuff you'll see he tries to force his fliers yes but when it's not working he swaps. Stop living in delusion thinking you're even close to his skill to even justify being an otp when he isn't even an otp. I say this as a GM flex player in all three roles. Good luck forcing sym against fliers or running junk on any long-range map, either take your L or maybe learn another hero that compliments your other heroes weaknesses. For instance you're a hog otp like CYX, but learn zarya and sig to make up for when your otp is countered and the others aren't countered by those things.
As a person who mostly onetricked mercy i agree that in this game you should be more flexible or nobody in your team (includes you) gonna have fun. Thats why im playing almost every support hero and actually having more fun like that and as well being good support for my team.
As someone who onetricks mercy (more like a twotrick of mercy and kiriko but still), I actually do agree. Although, once, I had a phase where I couldn't find a fun hero to play, this was when I used to main sombra (just 15hrs) and started to get bored, so I played bastion, sym, mei... until one day, I played mercy :) But yeah, I want to learn other supports, I played zen in quickplay for fun and ended up getting a lot of damage (surprisingly with my bad aim), played ana before and had really good sleep accuracy, I know the core fundamentals for each support but I don't have the muscle memory unlike mercy and kiri
I agree. I can’t play Mercy, but I’m very comfortable with Ana, Bap, Zen and Brig. They work well with most comps except hard dive, but I can make Lucio work. Albeit at a lower skill than the mentioned heros.
As another one trick Mercy, I do use other supports when I need to help the team or someone picks Mercy first. Gotta be a team player. Mercy is by far my most used hero(1,913 hours by the time of this comment). But do have good hours on Ana, Moira and Lúcio.
One tricks can play around their counters. I have a friend that mains hanzo, and they shoot pharahs out of the sky, killing tracers like doomfist in that cinematic. If they learn how to play around the counters, you’re unstoppable. If you see PartyTime insta-lock mercy, he’s not gonna die to the widow or soldier on the enemy team because I know how to be the SLIPPERIEST mercy
Sure but what if someone who counters them is also a one trick? As a rein you can fight an orisa especially if you’re a one trick. If that orisa is also a one trick or just mains orisa they can easily shut you down. A Pharah one trick is just going to fuck a junk if the junk is just better than they can win the match up but with equal skill it’s just hard to fight that counter.
@@argo_ii3114 well considering tracer can just melt down hanzo before he can react, and predicting pharahs movement is like voluntarily ripping out your scalp, id say those are pretty good counters. But yeah, otps suck and i feel like branching out isnt that bad.
@@samash.32 not really I mean he has 200 hp and a dash so assuming the tracer can reach him(there are many maps where she can’t reach snipers ahem Havana) he definitely has time to react and create some distance. He can also 1 tap her or 2-3 tap with Storm arrow. Pharah is harder but Storm arrows are good at spamming her out and since her mobility isn’t super crazy dinking her head is really possible.
If not that mercy is doing anything to cause the team to lose. It’s that sometimes the opportunity cost of playing mercy is a factor on why the team lost
I think one tricks need to understand the concept of hard counters, if you're gonna one trick against a hard counter you best be really good at your hero to where you can use tech to play against them, for example junkrat into pharah can work if you use your mine to boop in the air get a shot on her then use the second to confirm the kill, however if the pharah has any awareness of this its gonna be even harder, I think realistically you have to know when you're getting 0 value
1:00 damn mercy player already letting us know why they pick that character. “What am I really doing? I’m healing and damage boosting if I’m not dying I’m doing my job.” The problem with mercy and many other characters is that we don’t always need a mercy. If the supp lineup is Bap mercy vs Lucio Ana your tank is going to have a rough time with anti. There’s nothing you can do against that on mercy so you know what you can do switch. Swapping characters is a fundamental part of overwatch and you are severely limiting yourself by not diversifying your hero pool. This doesn’t mean that you should practice every character as much as your main, but you should have 2-3 characters per role that you can play well.
I don’t think that you’re limiting yourself because if you just put a lot of time into the game you’ll start to realize the ways you can win in every situation and then start being better than most other players

Sure you can work around counters but you’re not going to be getting the same value as if you were on another character. My hero pool is not that big (except for tank) I find that switching to something that’s not being countered better for your team. Why should your team have to make up for the fact that you don’t wanna switch or refuse to learn other characters. In a game where swapping isn’t fundamental to the core gameplay one tricking is fine ie apex and paladins, but overwatch is not those games and you are severely limiting yourself by playing 1 characters let alone 1 role.

Secondly, yes I would be getting the same value, if not more, than if I swapped characters because I don't know how to play any other character nearly as well as I know how to play my main so if I were to switch I'd probably do worse even though in theory that matchup is better. At the end of the day meta and matchups aren't as important as skill and if you're skillful enough you can get anywhere you wanna get to in this game no matter if you only play one character or many
I really expected to see more genji/doom/ball one tricks here lol. That seems to be the only kind I get in my games. :-( I don't run into many support one tricks beyond maybe a mercy...but tbh, if I am gonna play with a one trick on my team, I'd rather it be a mercy than anything else.
Honestly I enjoy being able to switch to different hero’s. I just play as who I want in the moment, yeah I may not be as good at hero’s that I don’t play often, but the games about having fun!
I feel you one tricks, the hate for just being a character is harsh. I'm a Sombra main and made it to D1, almost Masters now and no matter how I do, I get flamed from both sides. Win or lose, I know I'm the villain lol
You should play a three characters that are complete opposites that enables you to do smth in every situation, for example I play Lucio, Zen and Bap so if my tank picks a poke tank like Sigma I will play Zen or Bap unless the Sigma is really aggressive but that is unlikely, if the opponents have good dive players mainly Sombra and Winston I will never play Zen and I will play Bap some of the time but most of the time I’ll play Lucio against dives. If my team is lacking in healing then I will pick Bap to carry heals. If my team is lacking in damage I will switch to Zen in order to do more damage. If I have a rein I will pick Lucio. I feel like maining Lucio, Zen and Bap allows me to be a flexible player with an answer to every situation. Although I have almost half of my playtime on Lucio being able to switch is vital to playing this game as it is essentially rock-paper-scissors turned into a first person shooter.
ooo thats interesting, id do this if i knew how to play lucio, zen and bap 💀 dont get me wrong i dont have the _worst_ aim (still pretty bad) and i can get thousands of damage, but i really dont know what to do against counters bc im not used to playing them at all. oh and im trash at lucio movement the two supports i do play can sometimes not work out, which is mercy and kiriko. if they both dont provide good value, then i switch to bap or ana and hope

If a pharah shows up and your team onetricks everything but a hitscan YOU ARE SCREWED. I’m a kiriko one trick but I have moments where I have to use Ana or bap because my dps decides reaper and junkrat counter’s everything
The issue is beach junk is silver; silver pharahs or echos arent gonna know how to play their characters properly and he’ll have an easier time dealing with them. I think one tricking is not the best way to play the game, the sweet spot is probably 2-3 heroes you know how to play well on each role.
I feel this with some characters. Like, Cass is less fun when his grenade ability is too easy or when headshots were too likely on Soljourn it ruined the character for me. The challenge of OW is fun. Removing the challenge removes the fun, especially on characters that are supposed to be challenging.
i wish i could rank up but im not good at tank 😞id say im like silver on tank but i havent actually done comp as tank. and i also hope i can get a dps duo as a support/mostly mercy main, because though im not blaming my team EVERY time, sometimes its just hopeless and i cant do anything
One-tricks are going to have major differences of experience just based simply on the character they are one-tricking. Like if I had a one-trick Hanzo or a one-trick Solider, I'm not going to be mad but if I have a one-trick Junkrat or Reaper on my team and the opposing team has a Pharah, then yeah, I'm going to have issues with that. And this isn't to say that they're bad at their character but if I, as a support, have to switch off to Ana or Bap to shoot the Pharah when it is not really my job to because YOU refuse to switch as the DPS, then yeah, there's going to be a problem. Not to mention, the fact that I'm a support having to be forced to DPS/defend myself means that you, as a DPS, won't be getting healed and I don't want people whining to me that they're not getting healed when they aren't doing their proper job and LETTING me die.
Idk about the reaper, but with junk, you can punish the pharah for forgetting about you, or for certain positions. If your junk just ignores the pharah while its harassing its team, then that junk is not playing well
This is why I always main two incase of counters. I play mercy, my survivability is high but if I get walled I go kiri where she has two easy escapes. For tank, I play dva or jq but if its not working I go ram or orisa lmao For dps which I don't play, I'd prob play someone 'easy' like a hitscan
tapedpensir is a one-trick i can respect. he knows when he's being dead weight and he's willing to switch off. it's so toxic for a one-trick to basically slam their entire team into a brick wall over and over again trying to switch up their gameplay as opposed to giving their team a better fighting chance by changing heroes.
Well in beach junkrats case, he is basically waiting for the enemy to make a mistake rather then going ahead and try to make a play for his team. That just doesnt work
i dont think cupid understands what the first question means. its not just about if you play perfectly and do your job. mercy doesnt go with a lot of team comps meaning sometimes shes not always the pick. ive lost multiple games because we had a mercy that wasnt the pick and wouldnt swap. like if you say you lost and then tell me your team comp was tracer sombra dive and you were playing mercy..youre definitely at fault there (watching back, i dont think many of them understood what the question means lol) the whole reason the question was asked in the first place is because theyre one tricks, and one tricks dont always work with or against certain comps. its not always about if youre playing well or not its about if youre getting maximum value from your hero.
Hi I’m the mercy from the video! I was taking the question pretty literally and didn’t have time to properly prepare an answer since it’s on the spot. I am aware mercy doesn’t work in all comps but most one tricks don’t work in all comps either. The games I’ve had I would say aren’t my fault. I’m doing the most I can on mercy and what her kit provides and I’m playing the hero correctly. I’m aware that when the team comp needs to be adjusted I do so. My usual swaps are bap or kiriko. I’m more flexible than most one tricks I’d say. A lot of the time I am getting doom one tricks and Sym one tricks in my game and there’s only so much I can do to accommodate that when the enemy is just clearly countering our team. I work with the team but I still am a mercy one trick. Hopefully this response cleared things up tho
@@magicee_mariaso I heard someone say recently that if you’re playing mercy really well, and you’re hard pocketing your DPS (Which is a good thing) but your DPS aren’t playing well, that means you won’t be getting much value on mercy. What are your thoughts on this?? I agree with it, so I tend to not play mercy as much anymore, but wanted your opinion on it
@@bink97 Yeah and I agree with it too. I am GM5 so every dps player I have is usually doing well and performing to standards. But with my alt accounts which are lower in rank like masters and diamond I can totally see a reason to switch off mercy. When the dps aren’t fulfilling and getting value from the mercys dmg boost I definitely swap and try to take matters into my own hands! This is why I gravitate a lot towards bap. I still one trick mercy but I’m definitely more flexible than most! :)
Try a different character, but its probably gg next. Its actually not too common because a otp will always instalock. Its more common with characters like Mercy that are super popular and have a lot of one tricks.
Me, a twotrick support C:< Still, I usually instalock mercy because most of the mercys I meet aren't that good at the game (but I have met good ones, ofc not saying I'm 'the best' or smth)
i don't like one tricks on my team cause the ones i've found only have 1 playstyle and as soon as they start getting countered they refuse to switch and proceed to feed their brains out. And i disagree that only playing that one character will make you better at that character than someone that has your hero and two others they play.
Tbh I onetrick mercy and provide good value, but if I really can't do anything I just swap to kiri bc she has op abilities and I'm using them I've met amazing onetricks, especially my duo (can't play much w him bc we're 8hrs apart, plus I'm PC and he's console), but he onetricks genji and I onetrick mercy and honesty it works out. And if he gets hard countered he just goes soldier which I also dont mind

Having a one trick on your team (especially in the tank role) is the least fun i've had playing ow2 bc your if they counterswap your one trick you on most occasions just lose. Not to mention getting them on maps where their hero just sucks like getting a lucio otp on circuit royal is just an avoid and go next in most cases.
the thing is deeping your hero pool doesn't have a negative affect no one expects anyone to play 7 different heroes like on tank id expect a tank to play at least one dive and one shield so you can play different play styles with who your team can play, I expect a dps main to have a main ofc but being able to play like hitscan bc that is not hard at all, playing one character and that's it you hinder the game if ur getting counted and if your not then it doesn't matter yk?
One tricks are weird. The health question in particular: I would say that while they might be healthy for the game because they bring a bit of expertise to the team that other options can’t, one tricks can still be detrimental to a team, and it’s because of not only the mood they can put the team in, but the stigma surrounding them that they’re bad BECAUSE they’re a one trick. They won’t be bad, but it takes the team playing with them and abusing their expertise to win the game. It becomes unhealthy when the team refuses to acknowledge their worth. I am not a one trick, but I’ve had similar thought processes because of my character pool (Lucio, Brig, Mercy, Weaver, Bap) and I generally try to play the characters where they fit in pre-made teams, rather than randomized teams, which does sometimes prove to be a special type of knowledge that gets ignored because “we’re not in scrims.”
Lol at the first mercy. Imagine the game. You’re playing into an absolute GOATED Ana and JQ duo. Your team is constantly anti and losing 1 or 2 to an anti / focus fire every single fight. Your second support gets slept almost every engage. Your team is SCREAMING for a kiriko to counter the constant antis. Mercy in the back with the damage boost tho…

So can a one trick Kiriko especially if the skill is there on both those characters but almost all the other supports have cases where swapping is preferable. I have to flex to zen when we hit a damage stalemate and can’t close kills or get harassed by a doom, I need to flex kiri if Ana/JQ are shutting us down, sometimes I just need to bodyguard the other support as brig or need to hold a high ground, sometimes my team are dead set on echo pharah Dva so I need to go Ana (or mercy but I don’t like playing her. Can’t get to grips with her kit to a high level) and I’ve even had to flex to Lucio to break chokes and to enable a rein or ram. But I can’t imagine just being like “nope. I’m bap this game. All you flyers just switch or I’m not healing you consistently”
i onetrick mercy but more like twotrick of mercy/kiri, tho obviously i invest more time into mercy. and ik when a hero isnt working out and i swap, but i dont go full on mystery heroes every time i die
1:06 I disagree. You can definitely use rez to feed and be able to live. Mercy is more complex than people believe. You could always have more beam uptime and get picks with your pistol.
One trick hanzo here. One tricking taught me the ins and outs of him. I dont get ‘hard countered’ by pharahs anymore, because I forced the matchups and LEARNED. Yes, it lost me games a year ago in bronze, but that knowledge wins me games in masters when people tilt swap to pharah. Then echo, then hanzo. Guess what, theyre bleeding ult Charge trying to hard counter me 🤷♂️
Personally I think it is ideal to have 3 heroes in your pool for each role if you are playing solo. This is because with 3 heroes you can always have a counter swap or have a hero that can play around your team comp.
As someone who mainly plays Bastion when it comes to dps, I don't mind if there's another one trick on my team or if someone takes Bastion from me, if they do ill just suck it up and play someone else, I'm ok at Genji, I'm ok at Pharah and Soldier, I wont be as adept at any other hero other than Bastion but ill try my best, I play Bastion not because of how strong Bastion is but because I enjoy the kit he has.
There has to be something wrong in the mind of these players that just wants to play one character and one character alone. Like don't they get bored? Special this mercy one tricks.
Im a ball one trick, I play other heroes on a different account sometimes but to me they feel boring. No one can match the speed and style of gameplay that ball offers and hitting techs on people gives you that dopamine rush every time. So no, I dont get bored, I imagine mercy players like their unique movement
Hi I'm one of the Mercy one tricks in the video! I find that I only want to play Mercy because she's easy and I don't need to use too much thought power into playing her like other characters. I prefer playing games to have fun but that doesn't mean I don't want to win either, I just like winning on her!
Nope definitely nothing wrong with their minds. One tricks tend to play a specific character so much because the playstyle suits them. I am a Rein main/onetrick for the most part because i get to hit stuff with a hammer. Showing the cowards with guns what a hammer to the face looks like never gets old for me.
I actually admire one tricks, because when their character works, it works! And you get those montages on UA-cam, cool. That said, if they can adapt and play a differet character with a different style of gameplay, thats more desirable than a Junkrat at a stalemate because he'll rarely catch a Pharah or Echo enough times to make a difference. If anything, they can shut him down. However if it is working...then trust the process. Junkrat vs Pharah is crazy? Yap. Is our Junkrat gaining value anyways and somehow carrying?? Then by all means, let me be the one that helps you stay alive by doing my part and making sure you stay on the field somehow!

i remember playing 3 comp games and each time had a doom main, different people but they got hard countered every time and we lost. and on teh fourth game i met a GOOD doom. this was like season 3 btw
In a game where hard/soft counters exist.. You're selling yourself short by only playing 1 character. Also, this is a TEAM moba shooter.. You're hurting your teams/your chances of winning by being inflexible and failing to adapt.
one tricking when you are getting countered and your team is worse is just unwinnable like imagine playing into roadhog, reaper and bastion as winston but your team is dogshit what are you gonna do? you can't carry that nobody follows up you will always die before you kill anyone else swapping to dva would make this way less frustrating for you
I dont mind onetricks much because I'm comfortable picking around them but if the entire enemy team swaps to counter the one trick & they get rolled continuously, there comes a time they need to swallow their pride & try something else. Not to mention being a tank onetrick is almost impossible nowadays unless you're a god at the tank you play.
Its not just about pride. Pride can be part of it because winning against all odds is extremely satisfying, but one tricks genuinely cannot play other characters. Like, they can switch characters, but they will not be able to play well enough to keep up anyway. Its easier to just play around the one trick.

and this, this is why i twotrick. as mercy obviously your objective is die as less as possible and provide good value w your staff, but if i have a sombra chasing me, a hitscan forcing me to stop flying around, a doomfist or ball chasing me as well... then i just go kiriko because of her easy escapes, plus i can actually fight back easier as her. now if i play against only one/two of these, its not that bad. i remember playing pharmercy against a good ashe and we still won because i always stayed behind cover, even in the air. and a diver is easy to escape if you have good movement, the only problem being the nerfed GA cooldown. but usually when i evade a diver, they stop chasing me and i survive

One tricks don’t realize that if they’re say diamond. Well then the people in their lobby are also similar skill. So it’s self soothing for them to think they are “specialists” and have a unique superior skill… yet they are also diamond. Meaning their teammates are literally the same skill. So they have no advantage by being a one trick. Ow is a game of counter swapping, so they are literally a disadvantage piece to their team. Just completely flawed logic and ideology by some of these people…
Yes but if your comp needs a certain hero then the one trick will do a way better job than the flex. The reason the flex is in the same rank is because if their comp doesn’t need the hero they’re playing they can swap to the other one and make it a bit better but if you’re 5 stacking for example and need someone who can play Ana to help your Rien then having an Ana OTP will always be better than having someone who can play Ana decently but doesn’t only play her
I dont think the logic is flawed. They are in the same rank as other people while only playing one hero, so they can generally play around counters in their skill range (else they would be lower). Whereas normal people will swap when getting countered. So I think its a matter of preference and neither is a disadvantage to the team, because if they were, they would be in a lower rank
@@yeh386 I’m not a OTP hater, I’ve one tricked before. But ow is a game of countering and swapping, you can’t argue the fact that having an OTP is 99% of the time a disadvantage. But throughout most ranks it’s not a big deal because there are too many other variables that come into play. Now OTP in high rank is where you notice it. Where people are more refined/will hard counter the OTP. You can OTP any hero to t500 tho btw.
Heres a hypothetical, you one trick a tank lets say reinhardt and your being super aggro, big slams, landing firestrikes getting kills (playing optimally for your role). But your healers arent healing you and youre dying more often than you feel you should. That person might start flaming their healers and saying its their fault. But you dont realize that they dont have LOS or they're being flanked and killed while youre charging in. If that rein player got some experience playing as a healer and seeing the issues with healing a tank that is the same issues, they would probably be more considerate when they jumped back into their tank role. Playing other roles you are able to observe how others play in game and say "okay when i play as that role i will try to avoid doing that" or "i will take notes from this player thats really carrying our team"
YESS THIS‼‼ so many people ive met, as a mercy, dont taxi me and sometimes dont even help me when im being dove. the ones that do are usually other support players, some considerate dps players and rarely a tank (but i did meet a ball main who would taxi me whenever he could) and now when i DO play tank, in the back of my mind i always think of my supports, the problem being sometimes i back out too early and im more passive than aggro. and i always listen for the voice line that indicates my support is being hurt, so i turn around to make sure i can assist them. i also do this with dps

One tricks are annoying when the enemy team fully counters their hero. Then they want to complain that they are being shut down but just don’t switch to have a better chance against them. Like yesterday I had a doom tank, and the enemy team went Orisa, sombra, zen. He was getting deleted but blamed my team that we couldn’t go in. Like what are we supposed to do when you are the first to die every fight

As someone who is trying to relearn mercy, (although I have the most hrs on mercy it mainly came from Overwatch 1) do you have any recommendations for playing with a Lucio?
@@MonkeyBanjo7 Playing with a lucio as mercy is something I rarely do but it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE. Remember that you’re now the one that has to put out most of the healing. Generally I’d say take care of the tank a little bit more and let lucio heal your dps since they have less hp. Once everyone seems to be in an ok situation I’d say definitely go for the dmg boost! Also when fights are over I recommend letting lucio heal the whole team rather than the mercy. This’ll allow the lucio player to build beat faster since it’s more valuable for your team than valk. Heal more during the fight and mid fights all while dmg boosting if you feel like your team can afford that. But ultimately if mercy isn’t working with your lucio and you think you should switch I’d say go kiriko or ana. Kiriko probably a little more since she’s less aim intensive and adds huge value to the team! Hope this helps! :D

Yes! I play four tanks, I'm not necessarily good at the role but my mains are dva, used to be jq bc I found her fun but not anymore... ramattra and orisa as swaps if I have to.
And support is mercy/kiri, maybe not the best but I know how to play every support (just not as good at them as I am on my mains)

Something I found frustrating in the Beach Junkrats argument was the idea that he could just "play inside" against a Pharah. While I do agree that if he plays well enough he may never die to the Pharah, it will still be incredibly hard for him to kill the Pharah. The Pharah will then be free to kill any other heros that can't counter her. That means if the other DPS is a one-trick or just bad at hitting shots the game is basically lost or the supports have to shift drastically shift their focus. This is why playing the Tank role with one-tricks can be especially frustrating.
"play inside" while your whole team dies to the pharah then you cry about everyone else dying when not everyone has the luxury to "play inside". at the end of the day if youre playing junk into pharah, unless you can reliably hit her by mining into her then two tap her, shes just playing a 5v4 into your team and you lose almost every teamfight
@@symp_phony You 2 do make a good point, but when you are inside you aim is for you to be able to get the focus out of yoyrself, if you see the pharah is literaly focusing and harrasing the rest of you team is better if you got and try and combo her down. Not always will it work, but then she at least will be searching for you and not your team. It isn't about forgetting about a pharah, is about bringing your fight there, where you have the advantage. If she doesn't come, you go and punish her or her teammates for forgetting about you. You don't have to camp inside, you have to keep searching from value, the thing you change when a pharah appears is instead of looking for value in an open off angle, or at the side of your supports you look for it navigating through covered spaces, looking to take people by surprise, shifting their focus to, "hey, this junk just killed our support from behind, do smth".
The point is, is not just hiding, is chaging where you fight, but keep fighting, keep getting value and looking for plays.
Yeah, sometimes I play mercy against heroes that kinda counter her...wouldn't say pharah counters her but a lot of them hunt for me, and if I do end up dying too many times I switch. Only problem is that I don't play the hitscan supports... just kiri
@@Lucigu888 This argument struggles to acknowledge the difference in skills across the game. The higher the skill level the more punishing an unchecked pharah is.. especially if she has the mercy pocket. Pharmercy is a very miserable time for the receiving end when left to do whatever.
@@TamWam_ youre supposed to play mercy into pharah. pharah usually has a mercy pocket which makes hitscans or any hero hard to challenge her because its essentially a 1v2 anytime they try to shoot the pharah. if you go mercy and pocket your hitscan, it makes it a 2v2 and your hitscan can win the duel.

At least with my philosophy about 1-tricks being 'healthy' is a quote from Bruce Lee " I fear not the man who practiced 10,000 kicks once. I fear the man who practiced one kick 10,000 times." 1-tricks who have like half or most of their playtime on ONE hero is a specialist. They can be really good even against unfavorable matchup. I just think it comes down to things like having a higher APM than your counter or playing slow. Constant communication that kinda thing(I'm a Cass OTP, so I am biased)

Even in latter you can see he plays Sojourn and Mei, and if you watch his stuff you'll see he tries to force his fliers yes but when it's not working he swaps. Good luck forcing sym against fliers or running junk on any long-range map, either take your L or maybe learn another hero that compliments your other heroes weaknesses. For instance you're a hog otp like CYX, but learn zarya and sig to make up for when your otp is countered and the others aren't countered by those things.
As a person who mostly onetricked mercy i agree that in this game you should be more flexible or nobody in your team (includes you) gonna have fun. Thats why im playing almost every support hero and actually having more fun like that and as well being good support for my team.
As someone who onetricks mercy (more like a twotrick of mercy and kiriko but still), I actually do agree. Although, once, I had a phase where I couldn't find a fun hero to play, this was when I used to main sombra (just 15hrs) and started to get bored, so I played bastion, sym, mei... until one day, I played mercy :)
But yeah, I want to learn other supports, I played zen in quickplay for fun and ended up getting a lot of damage (surprisingly with my bad aim), played ana before and had really good sleep accuracy, I know the core fundamentals for each support but I don't have the muscle memory unlike mercy and kiri
I agree. I can’t play Mercy, but I’m very comfortable with Ana, Bap, Zen and Brig. They work well with most comps except hard dive, but I can make Lucio work. Albeit at a lower skill than the mentioned heros.
As another one trick Mercy, I do use other supports when I need to help the team or someone picks Mercy first.
Gotta be a team player. Mercy is by far my most used hero(1,913 hours by the time of this comment). But do have good hours on Ana, Moira and Lúcio.

One tricks can play around their counters. I have a friend that mains hanzo, and they shoot pharahs out of the sky, killing tracers like doomfist in that cinematic. If they learn how to play around the counters, you’re unstoppable.

Sure but what if someone who counters them is also a one trick? As a rein you can fight an orisa especially if you’re a one trick. If that orisa is also a one trick or just mains orisa they can easily shut you down. A Pharah one trick is just going to fuck a junk if the junk is just better than they can win the match up but with equal skill it’s just hard to fight that counter.

@@samash.32 not really I mean he has 200 hp and a dash so assuming the tracer can reach him(there are many maps where she can’t reach snipers ahem Havana) he definitely has time to react and create some distance. He can also 1 tap her or 2-3 tap with Storm arrow. Pharah is harder but Storm arrows are good at spamming her out and since her mobility isn’t super crazy dinking her head is really possible.
I think one tricks like a challenge. They can make the game way easier by switching but they just don't give a fuck lol

I think one tricks need to understand the concept of hard counters, if you're gonna one trick against a hard counter you best be really good at your hero to where you can use tech to play against them, for example junkrat into pharah can work if you use your mine to boop in the air get a shot on her then use the second to confirm the kill, however if the pharah has any awareness of this its gonna be even harder, I think realistically you have to know when you're getting 0 value
1:00 damn mercy player already letting us know why they pick that character. “What am I really doing? I’m healing and damage boosting if I’m not dying I’m doing my job.” The problem with mercy and many other characters is that we don’t always need a mercy. If the supp lineup is Bap mercy vs Lucio Ana your tank is going to have a rough time with anti. There’s nothing you can do against that on mercy so you know what you can do switch. Swapping characters is a fundamental part of overwatch and you are severely limiting yourself by not diversifying your hero pool. This doesn’t mean that you should practice every character as much as your main, but you should have 2-3 characters per role that you can play well.

My hero pool is not that big (except for tank) I find that switching to something that’s not being countered better for your team. Why should your team have to make up for the fact that you don’t wanna switch or refuse to learn other characters. In a game where swapping isn’t fundamental to the core gameplay one tricking is fine ie apex and paladins, but overwatch is not those games and you are severely limiting yourself by playing 1 characters let alone 1 role.

Secondly, yes I would be getting the same value, if not more, than if I swapped characters because I don't know how to play any other character nearly as well as I know how to play my main so if I were to switch I'd probably do worse even though in theory that matchup is better. At the end of the day meta and matchups aren't as important as skill and if you're skillful enough you can get anywhere you wanna get to in this game no matter if you only play one character or many

I really expected to see more genji/doom/ball one tricks here lol. That seems to be the only kind I get in my games. :-( I don't run into many support one tricks beyond maybe a mercy...but tbh, if I am gonna play with a one trick on my team, I'd rather it be a mercy than anything else.
Honestly I enjoy being able to switch to different hero’s. I just play as who I want in the moment, yeah I may not be as good at hero’s that I don’t play often, but the games about having fun!

You should play a three characters that are complete opposites that enables you to do smth in every situation, for example I play Lucio, Zen and Bap so if my tank picks a poke tank like Sigma I will play Zen or Bap unless the Sigma is really aggressive but that is unlikely, if the opponents have good dive players mainly Sombra and Winston I will never play Zen and I will play Bap some of the time but most of the time I’ll play Lucio against dives. If my team is lacking in healing then I will pick Bap to carry heals. If my team is lacking in damage I will switch to Zen in order to do more damage. If I have a rein I will pick Lucio. I feel like maining Lucio, Zen and Bap allows me to be a flexible player with an answer to every situation. Although I have almost half of my playtime on Lucio being able to switch is vital to playing this game as it is essentially rock-paper-scissors turned into a first person shooter.

The issue is beach junk is silver; silver pharahs or echos arent gonna know how to play their characters properly and he’ll have an easier time dealing with them. I think one tricking is not the best way to play the game, the sweet spot is probably 2-3 heroes you know how to play well on each role.

I feel this with some characters. Like, Cass is less fun when his grenade ability is too easy or when headshots were too likely on Soljourn it ruined the character for me. The challenge of OW is fun. Removing the challenge removes the fun, especially on characters that are supposed to be challenging.

One-tricks are going to have major differences of experience just based simply on the character they are one-tricking. Like if I had a one-trick Hanzo or a one-trick Solider, I'm not going to be mad but if I have a one-trick Junkrat or Reaper on my team and the opposing team has a Pharah, then yeah, I'm going to have issues with that. And this isn't to say that they're bad at their character but if I, as a support, have to switch off to Ana or Bap to shoot the Pharah when it is not really my job to because YOU refuse to switch as the DPS, then yeah, there's going to be a problem. Not to mention, the fact that I'm a support having to be forced to DPS/defend myself means that you, as a DPS, won't be getting healed and I don't want people whining to me that they're not getting healed when they aren't doing their proper job and LETTING me die.
Idk about the reaper, but with junk, you can punish the pharah for forgetting about you, or for certain positions. If your junk just ignores the pharah while its harassing its team, then that junk is not playing well
This is why I always main two incase of counters.
I play mercy, my survivability is high but if I get walled I go kiri where she has two easy escapes.
For tank, I play dva or jq but if its not working I go ram or orisa lmao
For dps which I don't play, I'd prob play someone 'easy' like a hitscan
tapedpensir is a one-trick i can respect. he knows when he's being dead weight and he's willing to switch off. it's so toxic for a one-trick to basically slam their entire team into a brick wall over and over again trying to switch up their gameplay as opposed to giving their team a better fighting chance by changing heroes.
Well in beach junkrats case, he is basically waiting for the enemy to make a mistake rather then going ahead and try to make a play for his team. That just doesnt work
i dont think cupid understands what the first question means. its not just about if you play perfectly and do your job. mercy doesnt go with a lot of team comps meaning sometimes shes not always the pick. ive lost multiple games because we had a mercy that wasnt the pick and wouldnt swap. like if you say you lost and then tell me your team comp was tracer sombra dive and you were playing mercy..youre definitely at fault there
(watching back, i dont think many of them understood what the question means lol) the whole reason the question was asked in the first place is because theyre one tricks, and one tricks dont always work with or against certain comps. its not always about if youre playing well or not its about if youre getting maximum value from your hero.
I think their response made sense to the question. They also said later in the video that they would and have swapped if mercy wasn’t working.

Hi I’m the mercy from the video! I was taking the question pretty literally and didn’t have time to properly prepare an answer since it’s on the spot. I am aware mercy doesn’t work in all comps but most one tricks don’t work in all comps either. The games I’ve had I would say aren’t my fault. I’m doing the most I can on mercy and what her kit provides and I’m playing the hero correctly. I’m aware that when the team comp needs to be adjusted I do so. My usual swaps are bap or kiriko. I’m more flexible than most one tricks I’d say. A lot of the time I am getting doom one tricks and Sym one tricks in my game and there’s only so much I can do to accommodate that when the enemy is just clearly countering our team. I work with the team but I still am a mercy one trick. Hopefully this response cleared things up tho
@@magicee_mariaso I heard someone say recently that if you’re playing mercy really well, and you’re hard pocketing your DPS (Which is a good thing) but your DPS aren’t playing well, that means you won’t be getting much value on mercy. What are your thoughts on this?? I agree with it, so I tend to not play mercy as much anymore, but wanted your opinion on it
@@bink97 Yeah and I agree with it too. I am GM5 so every dps player I have is usually doing well and performing to standards. But with my alt accounts which are lower in rank like masters and diamond I can totally see a reason to switch off mercy. When the dps aren’t fulfilling and getting value from the mercys dmg boost I definitely swap and try to take matters into my own hands! This is why I gravitate a lot towards bap. I still one trick mercy but I’m definitely more flexible than most! :)

Try a different character, but its probably gg next. Its actually not too common because a otp will always instalock. Its more common with characters like Mercy that are super popular and have a lot of one tricks.

i don't like one tricks on my team cause the ones i've found only have 1 playstyle and as soon as they start getting countered they refuse to switch and proceed to feed their brains out. And i disagree that only playing that one character will make you better at that character than someone that has your hero and two others they play.

I've met amazing onetricks, especially my duo (can't play much w him bc we're 8hrs apart, plus I'm PC and he's console), but he onetricks genji and I onetrick mercy and honesty it works out. And if he gets hard countered he just goes soldier which I also dont mind

If a one trick can’t help counter certain hero, the best they can really do is just avoid all confrontation and leave it to someone else to deal with.
Well that's not good because you won't be able to provide much value. But, if you are providing good value and the only counter is that one hero, then I guess you're right

Having a one trick on your team (especially in the tank role) is the least fun i've had playing ow2 bc your if they counterswap your one trick you on most occasions just lose. Not to mention getting them on maps where their hero just sucks like getting a lucio otp on circuit royal is just an avoid and go next in most cases.

the thing is deeping your hero pool doesn't have a negative affect no one expects anyone to play 7 different heroes like on tank id expect a tank to play at least one dive and one shield so you can play different play styles with who your team can play, I expect a dps main to have a main ofc but being able to play like hitscan bc that is not hard at all, playing one character and that's it you hinder the game if ur getting counted and if your not then it doesn't matter yk?
One tricks are weird. The health question in particular: I would say that while they might be healthy for the game because they bring a bit of expertise to the team that other options can’t, one tricks can still be detrimental to a team, and it’s because of not only the mood they can put the team in, but the stigma surrounding them that they’re bad BECAUSE they’re a one trick. They won’t be bad, but it takes the team playing with them and abusing their expertise to win the game. It becomes unhealthy when the team refuses to acknowledge their worth.
I am not a one trick, but I’ve had similar thought processes because of my character pool (Lucio, Brig, Mercy, Weaver, Bap) and I generally try to play the characters where they fit in pre-made teams, rather than randomized teams, which does sometimes prove to be a special type of knowledge that gets ignored because “we’re not in scrims.”

Imagine the game. You’re playing into an absolute GOATED Ana and JQ duo. Your team is constantly anti and losing 1 or 2 to an anti / focus fire every single fight. I feel like one trick Ana can kind of make it work in most cases? So can a one trick Kiriko especially if the skill is there on both those characters but almost all the other supports have cases where swapping is preferable. I have to flex to zen when we hit a damage stalemate and can’t close kills or get harassed by a doom, I need to flex kiri if Ana/JQ are shutting us down, sometimes I just need to bodyguard the other support as brig or need to hold a high ground, sometimes my team are dead set on echo pharah Dva so I need to go Ana (or mercy but I don’t like playing her. Can’t get to grips with her kit to a high level) and I’ve even had to flex to Lucio to break chokes and to enable a rein or ram. But I can’t imagine just being like “nope. I’m bap this game. All you flyers just switch or I’m not healing you consistently”
i onetrick mercy but more like twotrick of mercy/kiri, tho obviously i invest more time into mercy. and ik when a hero isnt working out and i swap, but i dont go full on mystery heroes every time i die
1:06 I disagree. You can definitely use rez to feed and be able to live. Mercy is more complex than people believe. You could always have more beam uptime and get picks with your pistol.
One trick hanzo here. One tricking taught me the ins and outs of him. I dont get ‘hard countered’ by pharahs anymore, because I forced the matchups and LEARNED. Yes, it lost me games a year ago in bronze, but that knowledge wins me games in masters when people tilt swap to pharah. Then echo, then hanzo. Guess what, theyre bleeding ult Charge trying to hard counter me 🤷♂️

Personally I think it is ideal to have 3 heroes in your pool for each role if you are playing solo. This is because with 3 heroes you can always have a counter swap or have a hero that can play around your team comp.
As someone who mainly plays Bastion when it comes to dps, I don't mind if there's another one trick on my team or if someone takes Bastion from me, if they do ill just suck it up and play someone else, I'm ok at Genji, I'm ok at Pharah and Soldier, I wont be as adept at any other hero other than Bastion but ill try my best, I play Bastion not because of how strong Bastion is but because I enjoy the kit he has.

There has to be something wrong in the mind of these players that just wants to play one character and one character alone. Like don't they get bored? Special this mercy one tricks.
Im a ball one trick, I play other heroes on a different account sometimes but to me they feel boring. No one can match the speed and style of gameplay that ball offers and hitting techs on people gives you that dopamine rush every time. So no, I dont get bored, I imagine mercy players like their unique movement
I only really find Lucio and Ball fun so I basically just stick to that. I don't get bored just because I like them idk
Hi I'm one of the Mercy one tricks in the video! I find that I only want to play Mercy because she's easy and I don't need to use too much thought power into playing her like other characters. I prefer playing games to have fun but that doesn't mean I don't want to win either, I just like winning on her!

I actually admire one tricks, because when their character works, it works! And you get those montages on UA-cam, cool.
That said, if they can adapt and play a differet character with a different style of gameplay, thats more desirable than a Junkrat at a stalemate because he'll rarely catch a Pharah or Echo enough times to make a difference. If anything, they can shut him down.
However if it is working...then trust the process. Junkrat vs Pharah is crazy? Yap. Is our Junkrat gaining value anyways and somehow carrying?? Then by all means, let me be the one that helps you stay alive by doing my part and making sure you stay on the field somehow!

i remember playing 3 comp games and each time had a doom main, different people but they got hard countered every time and we lost. and on teh fourth game i met a GOOD doom. this was like season 3 btw
In a game where hard/soft counters exist.. You're selling yourself short by only playing 1 character. Also, this is a TEAM moba shooter.. You're hurting your teams/your chances of winning by being inflexible and failing to adapt.

I dont mind onetricks much because I'm comfortable picking around them but if the entire enemy team swaps to counter the one trick & they get rolled continuously, there comes a time they need to swallow their pride & try something else. Not to mention being a tank onetrick is almost impossible nowadays unless you're a god at the tank you play.
Its not just about pride. Pride can be part of it because winning against all odds is extremely satisfying, but one tricks genuinely cannot play other characters. Like, they can switch characters, but they will not be able to play well enough to keep up anyway. Its easier to just play around the one trick.

now if i play against only one/two of these, its not that bad. i remember playing pharmercy against a good ashe and we still won because i always stayed behind cover, even in the air. and a diver is easy to escape if you have good movement, the only problem being the nerfed GA cooldown. but usually when i evade a diver, they stop chasing me and i survive

So it’s self soothing for them to think they are “specialists” and have a unique superior skill… yet they are also diamond. Meaning their teammates are literally the same skill. So they have no advantage by being a one trick. Ow is a game of counter swapping, so they are literally a disadvantage piece to their team. Just completely flawed logic and ideology by some of these people…

Yes but if your comp needs a certain hero then the one trick will do a way better job than the flex. The reason the flex is in the same rank is because if their comp doesn’t need the hero they’re playing they can swap to the other one and make it a bit better but if you’re 5 stacking for example and need someone who can play Ana to help your Rien then having an Ana OTP will always be better than having someone who can play Ana decently but doesn’t only play her
I dont think the logic is flawed. They are in the same rank as other people while only playing one hero, so they can generally play around counters in their skill range (else they would be lower). Whereas normal people will swap when getting countered. So I think its a matter of preference and neither is a disadvantage to the team, because if they were, they would be in a lower rank
@@yeh386 I’m not a OTP hater, I’ve one tricked before. But ow is a game of countering and swapping, you can’t argue the fact that having an OTP is 99% of the time a disadvantage. But throughout most ranks it’s not a big deal because there are too many other variables that come into play. Now OTP in high rank is where you notice it. Where people are more refined/will hard counter the OTP. You can OTP any hero to t500 tho btw.

Heres a hypothetical, you one trick a tank lets say reinhardt and your being super aggro, big slams, landing firestrikes getting kills (playing optimally for your role). But your healers arent healing you and youre dying more often than you feel you should. That person might start flaming their healers and saying its their fault. But you dont realize that they dont have LOS or they're being flanked and killed while youre charging in. If that rein player got some experience playing as a healer and seeing the issues with healing a tank that is the same issues, they would probably be more considerate when they jumped back into their tank role. Playing other roles you are able to observe how others play in game and say "okay when i play as that role i will try to avoid doing that" or "i will take notes from this player thats really carrying our team"
YESS THIS‼‼ so many people ive met, as a mercy, dont taxi me and sometimes dont even help me when im being dove. the ones that do are usually other support players, some considerate dps players and rarely a tank (but i did meet a ball main who would taxi me whenever he could)
and now when i DO play tank, in the back of my mind i always think of my supports, the problem being sometimes i back out too early and im more passive than aggro. and i always listen for the voice line that indicates my support is being hurt, so i turn around to make sure i can assist them. i also do this with dps
