2:20:18 the reason to not grind every unit to max level in the tower of valni is because it's uninteresting over a large span of time. Take dark souls for example, literally ubiquitous for difficulty and challenge in games and you can literally grind as much exp as you want. Nobody does it because it is a gross waste of time. I think the tower of valni works in the same way; players can balance the mode by simply deciding that its not fun or interesting and is just there to get people through the game in a pinch or for super dedicated players.
As far as I’m concerned all Tower of Valni does is let you get characters like Amelia or Ewan to a usable state without having to burden yourself across multiple maps finding spare kills for them. In every other game they would be insta-benched without a second thought - Tower of Valni just means you have a few more options at the cost of only a little time.
I think Awakening did have good supports past the C convo for most characters and there were a few good C conversations for some characters, like when Panne talks to Olivia or when Tharja is paired with Libra. Even Robin becomes a much more interesting person the more supports you unlock with them and some of them are actually different depending on Robin's gender and the other character.
Chrom and Sully is one of my favorites. The tomboy and the royal who have known each other since childhood, the tomboy working so hard to keep up puts her at odds of wanting to be seen as equal to the men but still wanting to be seen as a lady, and Chrom loving her for exactly who she is. They don't produce the best children in terms of gameplay, but their supports are fantastic too. Lucina and Kjelle both trying to build bonds with their parents is great. I'm just a sucker for opposites attracting. Like having meathead Vaike and genius Miriel finding love and listening to them talk about their same feelings in such different ways is great.

4.27.30 what bopper says here was so true for me, only i didnt finish the game out of obligation, I stopped playing for a few months and then started a new file. Played on that file until eventually the same thing happened again. Both times on the lumera map, literally just before the finish line. Then only about two months ago I made a new file and actually beat the game this time. Cant say I love engage but it has one of the best mid-game sections of all the fire emblems
The point during the Awakening section, where the debate was as to if FE13's success was from advertising or from relative game selection, here's what I'll add. I'd been an Ike main in Smash for a while, was interested in FE, but not enough to seek it out. One day I was messing around on my 3DS, and I saw the demo for Awakening. Played it, had fun, but sadly never bought the game (No $). I don't remember if I knew of Awakening, and if so, how much, but the Awakening demo was my first FE. At this point, I've played Birthright + Conquest, Shadows, 3H, and Engage, I desperately need to go back and finish the series as a whole. At one point I had all the ROMs saved and ready for when I homebrewed my Switch too...
I was instructed to leave a comment saying Choops is "based" which I'm assuming it's what the zoomers mean when you're really really adept at bass clarinet
Glad to listen to 5 idiots and (you decide 😈) discuss Fire Emblem. At the very least, I can wholeheartedly agree with S-tier. In regards to Engage's story, one thing I think that may have helped is if they had made each of the Four Hounds a rival to one of the four crown lords. Ivy and Zephia is the obvious choice, with Ivy running away from the kingdom worshipping Zephia's master, providing the latter opportunities to pester her about it. Alfred vs Mauvier has the two "knightly" characters pitted against each other, Timerra vs Marni has the two more jovial characters fighting, and I could see Griss viewing Diamant as a strong opponent (I'd also rewrite Griss to have his masochism come from the shounen trope of characters who just enjoy fighting, and make him a Martial Monk with a personal skill boosting his damage with gauntlets). It also matches up pretty well with the unit types--flying women, cavalry guys, and the foot-based girls and guys.
There's no ranking system in Sacred Stones, when you clear the Tower or Ruins there's a Combat Record, turns taken, exp gained, etc but it doesn't assign a rank.
I really liked the final boss of Radiant Dawn. Considering the scale of things in that game, it absolutely makes sense that they should be a nigh-overwhelming force. The game gives you the tools to succeed at a difficult fight.
Any list spawned from 5 hours of discussion is inherently going to be over discussed to the point where nobody should take it seriously, but it will be interesting to see other people's opinions of each game. I will probably make my own list on the side as I chip away at this vid over the next two months.
Indeed, I couldn't have disagreed more with Choops on his rant on the story especially with regard to Eirika and Lyon as the former falling for the ploy in being tricked into handing over the sacred stone was much more believable than lol Celica's moment of stupidity in trusting obvious bad that's done nothing but actively try to kill Celica and co, especially assuming if you recruited Sonya who has a rare vs conversation with Jedah. Not only is the best friend angle there for trusting, but through flashback Eirika has been told by Lyon about his stone research managing to save a little girl from fire wounds and ridding them, so she does have something to go off by to save her friend's life. Plus Eirika mentioning the gentle prince son who she is friends with of the once ally neighboring nation that's all of a sudden attacking and wondering how he's doing with the current dilemma comes out of nowhere? Say it ain't so! It's almost as if they're actually well written real friends that care about eachother. That said, wish the game had been placed above Blazing Blade as its story is much more flawed such as how Ursula's excuses for not going after Ninian and Nils when she was tasked to and not being punished for it given the Black Fang's code from her "other business to attend to" never addressed for what was more important than getting the siblings compared to Valter who allows both Eirika and Ephraim go because of his self-serving goals at allowing the war to continue on longer (hence killing Glen) and wanting to savor the hunt/fruit to ripe (he's basically FE's version of Hisoka from HxH). So yeah, otherwise a great ranking list.
My genuinely hot insane take is that FE1 Item Management isn't _that_ bad, it requires you to plan ahead, and it was so annoying that now every time I see the item break in any Fire Emblem I still get a bit of joy that I won't have to deal with it, and honestly, that was kind of a fun experience and has made me enjoy the entire rest of the series more.
I finally got around to watching the whole thing. The funniest (and most frustrating) part was Choops saying the wildest shit imaginable, basically the whole time.
Conquest was not that funny, as they pointed out, the script was insufferable with only 3 or so funny moments. That's not enough, Engage just has slightly higher lows than Fates.
@@マリー-v4p Nah, the story and characters suck too bad. It drags it down to B tier. It's really not as funny as you're hyping it up to be. It's a mediocre story with a few funny moments scattered thoroughout. Camilla really isn't funny either.
It is amazing you were finally able to publish this, Speedy. It sounded like it demanded much from you, and this was a worthy project. I imagine, we all have thoughts on how we would rank our FE games, there is so much to say when comparing the different entries. Just a one thing, and sorry for how long this is. I understand that each person rated each entry based on what they sought in each game, which is very valid. Many of these games vary along the spectrum of what we are all searching for in a FE game; except two, which represent the extremes of the spectrum, situated on opposite sides: Genealogy and Fates. Genealogy has story, but zero gameplay. As you noted in regards to SoV, it is throwing your blobs against their blobs. It has no strategy beyond placing your units on avoidance tiles and (to quote a better game) pick a god and pray that you do not get wrecked. Yet, one cannot deny its importance in FE history. It is where FE started to take the shape, we all know and love, introducing mechanics we are still playing with. Fates has gameplay (peak gameplay), but a mess of a story. It is clear they aimed for something on the level of Genealogy, but they dropped the ball. Hard. It actually bothers the gameplay, because the story is so inane. All of this is to say, that if you place Genealogy high you must do the same for Fates, as they represent opposite sides of the FE experience.
@@Choops6969I agree. 😊 I am sure either Speedy or Bopper can argue my point about gameplay better than I can, but I will say, when the only real strategy you have is which pixelated character is going to get it on with which pixelated character, you might not have the best gameplay.
@@emrakultpeRadiant has its flaws, its as if they tried to emulate Genealogy but on a smaller scale. However, together with PoR, it does form the most whole experience in the entire franchise, but as a standalone game it falters.
Okay i made it to the end. Seems like you guys had a great time making this video and that's what matters the most *Every generic support ever* 2 things to add: 1.) EY EY EY EY! 2.) I agree
I think three houses could have been path of radiance level if they took the base system from that game and implemented it like that(at least for part 2)
Man I feel like every criticism speedy had of three houses were things I liked, to take one example he says he hates how front-loaded the characters are but I love it when characters are front-loaded and I hate recruits who join late in games.
@@SpeedyHawknothing against you bro, I just think late game recruits are a lose/lose, either you use them to replace a unit you’ve been using for a character you’ve been using for like half the game and that’s a feels bad knowing all that training was for nothing cause the new recruit is super op, Or they have worse stats and they just get benched because why would players want to use a character they know nothing about that is Worse!
Great tier list. Glad to see Tellius stay winning. Hopefully this discussion and some specific points raised in it helps the FE community to further evolve to the point where from this day forward, every person claiming "StoRy DoEs NoT mAtTeR lol cry more" or "you just hate fun" will be respectfully YEETED THE FUCK OUT of this community forever. BOTH matter. Stop settling for less.

I just think it's hard to follow who is speaking without being familiar with all their content. Thanks for the video. Very entertaining.
Really fun video, I just wish there was some indication on who was talking,
This is a great video. Love all you guys. Please do more collabs
TELLIUS BIAS IS REAL AND WE LOVE IT
I was instructed to leave a comment saying Choops is "based" which I'm assuming it's what the zoomers mean when you're really really adept at bass clarinet
"The cover sucks would you buy that?"
Yea, I sure did in middle school :S
3 Houses S tier, absolutely unique and amazing.
3 houses isn't good man sorry
@@hotsause43 Sorry man, the concept of good and bad doesn't depend on your opinion;
I will probably make my own list on the side as I chip away at this vid over the next two months.
three houses in the same tier as awakening and engage tell me all i need to know
Idk if youll see this Choops, but ive been watching you for years and you've always made me smile :3 thank you!
Ay ay ay
Thats really all I wanted to say, nice tier list
Tellius is peak. Great tier list
Hmm now i know which games to try next!
What I got from this video is that Tellius is peak, Judgral is awesome and genre-defining, and Sacred Stones deserves S tier.
Great video
This is objectively and unironically the best FE tier list video ever made.
Calm down, kiddo.
Most of my favorites are in B tier, Echoes, Conquest, and Engage lol. PoR deserves S, but idk about Radiant Dawn.
Choops has the best opinions on FE 1
I like shoveling snow irl and I tolerate it in revelation
I’m mostly fine with everything yall said about SoV, tho I still put it as my fav, tho I’m fine with the top of B
I wish I knew which person is talking at each given time.
Good video.
I think Engage’s story is worse because conquest’s is at least funny.
Conquest was not that funny, as they pointed out, the script was insufferable with only 3 or so funny moments. That's not enough, Engage just has slightly higher lows than Fates.
@@nuibaba280 nah conquest is funny. The mysterious dancer scene, rainbow sage, Camilla…
As an aside conquest also has great music and art direction, I think. That with the game play/maps pushes it to A imo.
@@マリー-v4p Nah, the story and characters suck too bad. It drags it down to B tier. It's really not as funny as you're hyping it up to be. It's a mediocre story with a few funny moments scattered thoroughout. Camilla really isn't funny either.
@@nuibaba280lmao ok
Yoooo, it's here! After watching 6h+ in VODs every week, these almost 5h are a nice bonus.
So when's the next big video?
2025!
All of this is to say, that if you place Genealogy high you must do the same for Fates, as they represent opposite sides of the FE experience.
ok, but Genealogy has the best story and the best gameplay.
Except genealogy sucks and radiant dawn is the closest thing to perfection we will ever have
@@Choops6969I agree. 😊
I am sure either Speedy or Bopper can argue my point about gameplay better than I can, but I will say, when the only real strategy you have is which pixelated character is going to get it on with which pixelated character, you might not have the best gameplay.
@@emrakultpeRadiant has its flaws, its as if they tried to emulate Genealogy but on a smaller scale. However, together with PoR, it does form the most whole experience in the entire franchise, but as a standalone game it falters.
Okay i made it to the end. Seems like you guys had a great time making this video and that's what matters the most *Every generic support ever*
2 things to add:
1.) EY EY EY EY!
2.) I agree
I think three houses could have been path of radiance level if they took the base system from that game and implemented it like that(at least for part 2)
Man I feel like every criticism speedy had of three houses were things I liked, to take one example he says he hates how front-loaded the characters are but I love it when characters are front-loaded and I hate recruits who join late in games.
sorry :(
@@SpeedyHawknothing against you bro, I just think late game recruits are a lose/lose, either you use them to replace a unit you’ve been using for a character you’ve been using for like half the game and that’s a feels bad knowing all that training was for nothing cause the new recruit is super op, Or they have worse stats and they just get benched because why would players want to use a character they know nothing about that is Worse!
See you in 4 more years!
Especially since this mentality was almost non-existent before Engage.
I’m so glad Path of Radiance was my first Fire emblem game
I agree
Path of radiance is intuitive and easy to pick up. Tutorial tells you almost everything. If the weapon triangle was up at all times as a new player, that would be the only thing needed. Veterans take that for granted.
