Awakening: My first fire emblem game and the one that got me into SRPG. Three houses: The conversation I had with people and friends about which house we picked was really cool. Engage: Funnest, game I have ever play. Maybe there's something better like "Unicorn overlord" or "Project Triangle" but Engage is what make me want to explore those games. Now let me tell you my least favorite FE game (That I have played). Echos was so boring and had no replay value. I do thank it for introducing time wheel though.
Kind of a pet peeve of mine, but new mystery had casual mode. People constantly say awakening introduced it but a mote accurate way to say it would be that it introduced casual mode outside of Japan.

I take it they weren't proud enough of New Mystery to sell it to us, but that might have helped the greater fandom learn of the modes and options it introduced. Still, you ARE among fans, so you definitely can't get away with that any more than 'FE13 introduced the Avatar!', or even 'FE12 introduced the Avatar!!!'.
My favorite thing about the FE community is the universal agreement that the Fates continent is canonically named "Fateslandia". ESPECIALLY because of the fact that Fates is not the name of the game in Japanese. That makes it so much better to me
Comment about Lyn's age topic- Roy and Lilina are 15 in FE6 so they would be born 5 years after the end of FE7, so even if Lyn was 15 she would have been 20 at the time. But also Lyn is only 15 at the beginning of the game in the JP version and there are two 1 year time skips not counting all the time traveling and battling (And the fact that she would technically be at least 15 and a half at the start of the game because we learn her age through the letter her mother sent out, the mother who has been dead for six months.) so she's probably still around 18 at the end of JP FE7.

It's just one of those little tidbits that annoys me slightly because people use it to attack Lyn fans for being 'weird' when they themselves didn't look into it deeply enough. Good video though!
They probably changed it because people might find it iffy that the relationship started when she was 15? Even though it doesn't make that much sense because Eliwood and Hector are 17 at the start of the game. It really shouldn't be so much of an issue but Americans by and large seem to be extremely sensitive about that stuff so my guess is the change was made by someone who did not really notice how much time really elapses during the game and wanted to avoid minors implied to have had sex.
@@elecrom_9757 while it’s not that unusual for a 17-year-old boy to date a 16-year-old girl (as Lyn would be after the one-year time skip), the game doesn’t explicitly say that Eliwood and Hector are 17, or that Lyn is now 16. You can do the math, of course: Eliwood and Hector have fought 30 duels, once every two months since they were 12 (as explained in their C support). But the game doesn’t expect its player base to do the math.

A few corrections: -Casual mode was introduced in New Mystery, not in Awakening. -New Mystery also introduced the avatar system. -BS Fire Emblem/Archanea Saga is 100% canon to the series. -Vesteria Saga actually WAS made in RPG Maker, or at least the SRPG equivalent "SRPG Studio." Enterbrain is the former developer of the RPG Maker series and Kaga has been heavily involved in the Japanese RM community since the early 2000s. Also Vesteria Saga has very good map design, gameplay, and story. It's also quite funny. Highly recommend it even if the graphics are ass. -Tellius takes place in a different world from Archanea definitively. Ike or Mist's descendants got to Archanea from an outrealm gate somewhere outside of Tellius across the sea and eventually led to Priam many generations later. My headcanon is that Mist and Boyd's son ended up leaving to Arcanea while searching for Ike and getting trapped in Archanea. -It is confirmed the outrealm gate is primarily dimensional travel, but it can do time travel as well. -There are absolutely no links between Elibe and Archanea. They're in different universes. Also their lore contradicts each other. Magvel also has no links to the main universe. -Three Hopes is not a spinoff and is canon to Fodlan. Just because it's a different genre doesn't mean it's not canon and it contains information essential for understanding Fodlan lore. It even has the same developers and writers as Three Houses. It is canon, unlike Warriors which is a complete nonsense spinoff and Tokyo Mirage Sessions which is more-so a Persona game than a Fire Emblem game. -Super Paper Mario is a good game. It may not be a traditional RPG rather being a 2D platformer with minor RPG mechanics but it's still super fun with a great story and atmosphere and fun mechanics. It's FAR better than crap like Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King. Origami King could have been good tho if they just ditched turn based battles entirely and made the combat more like Zelda as the devs clearly wanted to do.
I was amazed to learn Kaga had such involvement with Rpg maker (I'm writing an rpg maker video script now. Go figure). I'll give Three Hopes a go, I've had a few other commenter's recommend it, and I'm not too stubborn to change my mind. I like your theory about one of Ikes friends searching for him in Archanea.
His game is kinda ass I ain't gonna front. It was interesting going from Thracia to it tho. The dev team carried over a lot of ideas into BB, but also made a lot of things ultra annoying.
@@WesDoesGames I assume you also haven't played Thracia but the game feels like a watered down Thracia imho, especially since I played BB right AFTER I played Thracia. A lot of the map design felt drawn out to the point of absurdity, especially in the later chapters. There is a lot of padding design and what I deem to be fairly artificial difficulty. Also it is the game that gave me an eternal dislike of every Bolting sorcerer ever. I wish to emphasize this was also on Normal mode. I don't want to go into too much detail as to not spoil anything for you, overall it's a game that commited the cardinal sin of being both boring and annoying. Also could never relate to the cast, Roy is just such a wet blanket, honestly my least favorite lord in the series. How was this guy more popular than mofuking Ike!?
I think what you're referring to about the petting minigame still being present is when you enter your room and your partner is sleeping. It prompts you to wake them up by touching the screen.

I absolutely love Hikaru Midorikawa’s performance as Marth. Crazy to think these days many people confuse him for a different voice actor because of how deep his voice has gotten over the years of voicing Marth. (Like the transition from Smash Melee to Smash Ultimate and such.)

Regarding the worlds being connected, there's a theory that Fodlan is in the same world as both Archanea/Ylisse and maybe Elibe. For Elibe the theory goes that Sothis is actually a dragon from the Nabata desert, hence her children being known as the Nabateans. As for Archanea and Ylisse, the Regalia weapons Gradivus, Parthia and Hauteclere are present in Fodlan
Great iceberg. Here are some of my favorite secrets, easter eggs, and theories that weren't mention: Fe7 canto+ glitch: if one of your mounted unit's attack on an active tile, they can use their extra move to move after fighting. For example, you can torch staff a tile and then attacked on it with a flier. Fe7 Ninian arena exploit: Ninian's grace and then rescue that unit. Next turn, drop them, dance them so they go into the arena buffed up, rescue them again, and repeat. Fe4 opening cutscenes: a different scene is added to the opening for each time you've beaten the game. These extra scenes are very cool and give context to the story such as how Lewyn survived. Fe4 easter egg items: So many cool items are actively hidden and can be found when you place a specific unit in the middle of nowhere. For example, kill a certain boss with Seliph and place him in a certain spot. Kaga's notes for Fe4: Kaga's notes had what if scenerios for Genealogy because Genealogy was originally going to be split up into 3 parts instead of 2. These scenarios would take place somewhere between the first and second half of the game. Thracia 776 stone statues: at the end of ch.4 , there is cutscene of Julius with four statues in each corner of the room he is in. These statues are theorized to be characters from the first part of Genealogy that were turned into stone.
Thanks for sharing! I haven't heard of any of these minus the extra scenes from FE4. I had to search forever to find that clip of Forseti resurrecting Lewyn. I didnt know there were more scenes as well though, that's such a cool detail. Wish newer games would do stuff like that

"What's this? If you have complaints to the king, come later" "Commander Shiharam! Why did he have to die?! He did all he could for Daein's army, and you never recognized his efforts!" "Shiharam? There was never a man named Shiharam" (More dialogue here that I don't remember) "Ashnard! ASHNARD!! I'll never forgive you! NEVER!!"
Hey man, this is a very informative video! I think your research into the topics is well informed, which is good, because that's what you expect with this kind of topic. However, it's also very distracting when you're stopping the informative parts of the video to make the thirteenth jab at the quality of Engage. Totally understandable if you don't like whatever game you play, but when it comes to iceberg videos, I think it could stand to be a bit more objective. It really kind of stops being funny after the forth or fifth joke, and just feels weirdly petty towards an installment you didn't like. The point was made the first time, it really didn't need to be made several more times over.
1:07:00 or so: you actually don’t have to defeat Kishuna in “Genesis” to unlock Nergal’s and Nils’ extra dialogue, only in “Prisoner of Magic” (to unlock “A Glimpse in Time”) and “The Value of Life.” You do have to play through “Genesis” though, just like the rest of the chapters featuring Kishuna. But scaring him away by attacking him or opening his door is enough.
Aktually the three houses devs have said that it might be in the same world as arcanea [all the places named after characters from fe1/fe4] and they have the Wo Dao [literally a thing said to be uniqe to Karel's family, so FE10, 11, and 12 having it puts Elibe telius and arcena in the same world lol (Either someone forgot or it's just cannon because in FE8 has the shamshir in place of the Wo Dao [literally same item id and stats] specifically to not have this kind of thing, but it's maybe? placed in acenea by the maybe? falchion legend)]. Basically only engage doesn't fit in one world lol, but even then it refers to Lucina, and marth/tiki being from different worlds so yeah with engage's writing "worlds" could literally mean other times, this is also something you have to accept for the Nils is Forsetti theory as the dragon's gate is said to be another world but it'd have to be another time because if FE7 and 4 are in the same world then FE4 has to be before 7 as the Ending winter or dragon decline hasn't happened by the time of the original crusades. [It is specifically stated that the ending winter is world wide] There is an FEU thread that documents Canas's alt death quote, yes you do need to beat the game 8 whole times, start to finish to get it... or just own a JP copy and use the FE6 transfer bonus system lol. I am on team Binding blade remake Corrin is actually very fun in smash Celica's death was likely to be used in Act 6 where there is literally no story content that would need to be changed lol It's possible the Bernie support change was to keep it closer to the JP script, still a weird as hell change though, and I feel the game is worse off for it. NO NO NO he doesn't say Anier in JP he say the equivalent of Ae... ir..., he misses the middle syllable as such it's unclear which he says, the real problem is that the translation didn't make Anier and quintessence share letters/syllables to make the death quote vague like in the original. I also think this vague nature makes the death quote much more tragic, being unclear if Anier is even vaguely remembered. [tbh they should have just called quintessence Aegir like the JP script] Feye's AVO doesn't matter as you should anticipate her getting hit unless she's on a grave anyway lol, she's not exactly a great dodge tank and you usually have her go cleric for dance or mage to be good anyway which neither want to be on the front lines because they are oft at low HP or attacking from range. The Elibe Fire emblem is gem that locks away the binding blade and is used in Bern's coronation ceremony, it's not what seals Idunn, she is sealed by binding blade inside the dragon temple due to Hartmut feeling bad for her and not wanting to kill her, that's the same reason she's able to recover in the good ending, the binding blade makes the user's will reality. N-no???? the Fire emblem in three houses IS the crest of flames not Byleth by this logic Sothis, Byleth, Edelgard AND Nemesis are the fire emblem, which is absurd, the Fire emblem is just the crest of flames not the wielders. Epharim is in engage and the reason he's silent is because he's JP VA was either unavailable or did some bad shit, I can't remember. Also the incest take is dumb and anyone that reads into that, needs to take a step back. Also also paired endings are platonic all the time lol. I'm a little surprised that you didn't mention that in FE6 Galle was like 10,000% intended to be playable, it's actually insane how playable he was like my god. [only enemy with affinity, is located right in the middle of the playable characters in the game data, literally has AI designed for him to be recruited (I made a thread on FEU {originally from another comment section} all about his AI titled "Galle's AI write up from 6 months ago")] Same but with NIchol and Candance from fates. [Have crit lines, and cut-ins, Nichol has a real death quote and voice lines.(NO other capture bosses have these, not even some main story bosses have these)] And as for favorite games 1.Binding Blade - tense, fun, many good and fun units to use 2.Fates Conquest - tight gameplay, great cast to use, has Ophelia, but endgame does fall off 3.FE:Echoes:SOV - great story and presentation, actually better gameplay than people give credit [there is a lot to the weapon and inventory system], maps are weak but not as bad as people say due to the focus on unit capabilities, still would have liked better maps tho.

To Japan, Dragon Quest *IS* RPG. It's like, genuinely a cultural phenomenon. It's ubiquitous. It's universal. Everyone plays dorakue, everyone eagerly awaits the next one. Dragon Quest is unquestionably the most influential to RPGs made after it. It is the progenitor.

I was pretty excited when Corrin was announced for Smash. And speaking of Smash, I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the Amiibo in Fates. You can battle Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina with units referencing their allies from their respective games. You can have them work at a shop and by their exclusive equipment, even Robin referencing the fact that weapons can’t break. But the most important part that when you have Odin, Selena, and Laslow battle Robin and Lucina, they recognize they not the same ones from Awakening, they’re actually from Super Smash Brothers. Smash was also mentioned in heroes. Now I think Legendary Roy attack finisher, but there is also Legendary Female Corrin’s special is Negating Fang which is called Counter Surge in Japanese and for the Weave of Fates Forging Bonds in Fire Emblem Heroes, Sothis was asleep and said “You must… join Smash.” Which is clearly a direct reference to Byleth’s reveal trailer in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.

I would like to see Cypher mentioned. Though it ended due to Feh, I did figure it was worth mentioning that that i did appear in Fire Emblem Games. For the Japanese version of Fates, there was a 3 Cypher characters that was given via a code. Cypher Marth, Cypher Lucina (Which is Masked Marth) and there is Cypher Minerva who is a unique Pegasus Knight Class where she has a S rank in Lances. In Echoes, you get to recruit 4 of some the original Cypher Characters Emma, Ranzal, Slade and Yuzu through paying and it’s not regional locked. I would like Warriors get talking about in some way in the iceberg, not to mention that Xander Promotion outfit is based on his Cypher Card Though, I am curious if is any mention of crossover ideas, I know there was this unique item in Echoes called the Eleven Sword and the Eleven Shield that had enhanced ability, but only through turns 7 to 11. And apparently, you get a random (I assume Japanese) food item as well that all characters will find delicious, though it’s only happened in Japan.
Just saying, I think Path of Radiance, and probably Radiant Dawn, maybe both or one of them, are part of the same timeline too as Priam exists in Ylisse and Chrom and Robin apparently know of the Legendary Hero Ike and his exploits and Priam is Ike's descendant just as Walhart is the descendant of Alm and Celica. Jugdral seems to be connected directly too because in Thracia 776, beating the game and keeping Lifis alive says he ends up finding a country that ends up having problems very similar to what Archanea faces generations later.
They dont they both have entirely seperate and distinct lores and gods. With ashunera creating the zunanma and flooding the entire earth and the ylisse/valentia world being shaped ruled and created by divine dragons and subdragons like earth dragons (medeus mila and duma). The 12 deadlords we see in awakening arent even the original 12 deadlords either. A lot of the fanservice in awakening is not meant to be taken seriously bc it was the last game in the series and the writers didnt gaf (most of theme didnt even work on the older games)

a few comments and a correction! about skinship being removed in fire emblem fates - it was removed, technically. what you probably remember wasn't actually a part of the skinship minigame, but once s-supported with a partner would have minigames along the lines of skinship where you would blow into the microphone or tap on the screen. also 1:11:01 this doesn't normally show up at the end of the game because it has a ton of prerequisites (second playthrough, save data transfer from fe9 with ike and soren A support in both games, certain deployments in certain maps, having certain characters fight against each other in certain chapters, etc.) so it's usually missed because of all of the prerequisites this specific scene needs. and a bonus about this: in the second volume of the tellius recollection that if he did learn that he was the prince of daein he really wouldn't care because he had taken his own path. other than that this was an entertaining watch! loved the old ads placed in between. this was great dude keep up the good work

@@WesDoesGames yeah definitely the name of it is... questionable lol. don't know what else to call it but thats what it was referred to in the japanese version so i've no clue what else to call it (doesn't help i haven't played it since the initial jp and eng releases). i do suggest playing fe10 on a second playthrough with the transfer bonuses and extra content, it's really interesting! id also check out the extended scripts if possible because those were unfortunately cut from the english and pal releases.
Technically in FE4 someone (generally Ayra's son) can marry Julia before that she recover from her amnesia and I think that the quote when both her and her lover return to the castle is changed after her recrutement
@@WesDoesGames And I mean, the story should be good but had too much cut from the 3 books that it was... Not counting localization changes and lack of the Festival DLC, so we lost some child parent development, that was pretty good, specially for Peri if she's the mom to Soleil.

Few Things (to my knowledge at least): -Though not explicitly said, one could derive a Fire Emblem timeline connecting all the games together (Source Gaming did the theory, highly recommend checking it out) -Byleth themselves wasn't the "Fire Emblem." It was the crest stone to the crest of flames. Byleth just happened to posses it as his heart so it would be a technicality -IDC what anybody says, Golden Deer was the cannon route. That's the hill I will DIE on lol

There is a different theory I've seen about Marianne's fate if she goes unrecruited in other routes that I personally like more: She goes to her paralogue alone like she normally does, but since she doesn't have allies to rescue her, she ends up dying in there since it is a difficult paralogue. It's still tragic but it's much better than the alternative of her taking her own life. Especially since she probably found some happiness with the Golden Deer similarly to what happens with Bernadetta and the Black Eagles even if you don't recruit her.
Addressing the games world building, I always believed Tellius games were conected someone to Awakaning since Priam appears on Awakening with a Ragnell who lost it's blessing
Actually buddy, Ike’s games are in the same world as Marth’s because in Awakening you play as his descendent who wields Ike’s same sword from both his games plus wear Ike’s headband
interestingly, about the Celica fact being the first lord to die without a game-over, its actually in fact, Corrin from Fates who was the first lord character that was able to die without a game-over, specifically in casual mode, where normally lords dying would be game-over. but Corrin actually lives and retreats in casual mode. so Celica deff would've been the 2nd lord in the series to die without a game-over, if echoes kept that in, as Corrin's the 1st lord to do this. other than that I always felt like FE6 was a very weird FE game, weird in the fact that its a "Sequel before the Prequel", despite it giving us Roy in smash. I felt Binding Blade was a very weird game cuz Lyn didn't exist, yet Hector and Eliwood do. and when Lyn existed in FE7, FE6 really raises a lot of questions about what could've happened to Lyn, how/where would she be in FE6, what her fate could've been. questions that a lot of people are very curious about as I'm sure an older Lyn could actually exist in FE6, depending on how they go about it. but Lyn's fate during the events of FE6's a fate we'll probably legit never know.
Well, I mean, retreating and dying are two different things, but that's interesting nonetheless. I agree about Lyn, her absence in fe6 is weird. I'd like to think she went back to being a nomad in Sacae, but of course if you marry her, you're dooming her canonically as we know Roy's mom dies.

Love what you love, I may bash it but I do see the good qualities of that game too. Citrinne, Lapis, Diamant, and Ivy had some depth and I liked them alot in particular
I spent about 5 months or so of my life since April of last year going through every Fire Emblem game from Genealogy up until Fates, having previously also played Awakening, 3 Houses and Engage (the latter of which actually inspired me to go on the journey). It was a heck of a ride, lots of really high ups (the tellius games) and really low lows (shadow dragon and new mystery), but it never ceased to at least provide a new experience with each game, and now has provided me with a few new favorites of all time. I'm looking forward to seeing how much of this I can actually recognize, as I don't really interact with the community at large and played the games at my own time and pace and mostly blind (apart from Thracia for which I followed a guide).

I've played through the majority of the games in the series, but i think fates will always hold a special place in my heart. i think it did ride off the success of awakening for sure, and leaned hard into anime tropes more than its predecessors, but to me its a pretty good game. a lot more goofy and nonsensical for sure at times (nothing will ever be funnier to me than the baby microwave pocket dimensions being canon), but the gameplay and its cast has stayed memorable to me

I had never played fire emblem until I saw blazing blade on the switch gba emulator, gave it a try and absolutely loved it, now i started engage and im planning on getting 3 houses too
1:05:59 "which is not easy for a bard" Me who had him at level 20 when I beat the game: I would include either him or Ninian on every possible map and would make sure that every turn, and I mean EVERY turn, he would dance. Even if there was no practical reason I would always do it just for the EXP. Even when I was just spamming end turn I would have a unit wait in the same spot and then have him dance. He ended up reaching level 20 during the final map and on his final level up he got HP36-->HP37 which meant he could survive the dragons attack meaning I could have Athos attack and lose most of his health, safely have Nills dance and have Athos move away and have my only staff user left, Erk, who only had 36 health, heal Athos to full health and just do that repeatedly. Some may called this exploiting, but for me it shows that all that grinding paid off.
I have the Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition set, i got it when i was like... 15? Its not my favorite Fire Emblem by far but i guess im glad i have it as a fan of the games
this was more of a serious iceberg but i was really hoping the bottomest layer would be unlocking xavier in thracia. in general i kinda wish there was more about jugdral games given how crazy they get, but thats just cuz theyre my favourites and actually the first ones i beat cuz im weird.
Having Nils as child Lewyn is crazy good. It would link the entire series together, as I see FE8 as the Gaiden to FE6+FE7. Magvel always seemed like the Australia continent to me, just a big ol island by itself. The only way we truly would know is in the FE4 remake. It actually makes a lot of sense to have Elibe be even farther in the past, especially considering they are the games that come immedately after judgral and the literal telling and showing of when there were still dragons living amongst humans even after the gate was closed. They surely used a lot of ideas and themes Kaga had lying around or shared with the group, and I'm sure they wanted to keep the series together in one universe still. i see the map like this and accoring to actual in game size, Judgral is like all of asia, Elibe is Europe, Archanea is North America, Valentia is South America, Magvel is Australia, Tellius is in a different timeline, I assume Fodlan is a continent north of Elibe, and Fateslandia is an ancient kingdom I assume that is now destroyed but from a far away pocket of some other continent. Basically only 3H now is the odd man out if they dont blatantly say it's stand alone like Tellius.
actually there is a theory that three houses is still connected to awakening, in a sense that fodland is the world lucina left behind in order to change the future where grima awakened
If I was to throw in a few dubious theories that might be worthy of the iceberg (some of these involve heroes and warriors sorry for that): 1. Tharja is the unofficial canon wife of male Robin or is at least Female Morgan’s biological mother: Tharja is literally the only woman to consistently show interest in Robin across all entries (duh) however Warriors seems to hint that Robin is actually kind of fond of her back even if he’s still a bit weirded out by her. She also showed up on his Brave Alt demonstration team for heroes alongside Morgan and Chrom, such a team is usually made up of people the character is closest with. Given female Morgan’s default hair color is also black I’d say it’s possible our crazy dark mage got what she wanted. Before anyone brings up Lucina, the way their relationship is portrayed tends to look more like Uncle Niece than anything else outside of awakening. 2. Edelgard was taken to Faerghus for her protection and possibly to serve as counter coup: evidence seems to suggest that Hubert’s father and the real lord Arundel saw what was coming with the nobles likely already jockeying against Edelgard’s father. So Arundel faked a defection to Faerghus and took Edelgard with him to help secure a possible alliance with King Lambert who was known to be a very outwardly looking and reform minded king, his wife also being Arundel’s sister. Edelgard was kept weirdly isolated in Faerghus it seems as not even Felix, Sylvain, and Ingrid who were Dimitri’s close friends at the time seemed to have met her even the Queen being bizarrely kept out of the loop. Edelgard’s location seems to have been top secret suggesting she may have basically been intended as a designated survivor. However the Agarthans seemed to have successfully turned Hubert’s father sometime after this and Thales murdered and replaced the real lord Arundel who then took Edelgard back to the Empire and the rest is gruesome human experimentation, a traumatized girl learning that religion is a lie, and inevitable bloody war. 3. Grima may have been made by from Duma’s child: This one is speculation I’ve heard floating around but Grima does have some likeness to Duma both in design and in operation.

When will the fire emblem players finally stop to try to impose their favorite parings as the CaNoN one ? It has been confirmed that multiple versions of the same world coexist in a multiverse so technically all the ways the game can end is canon in at least one timeline. Robin is not even always a man. And most hint on spin off were added because Tharja has became a popular waifu.

Okay great video, I really enjoyed the deep dive and have learned a lot of things, the only thing I have to say is not mentioning fire emblem heroes here is in my opinion "wrong" even though that's a strong word. In my opinion it's Canon by Veronica being present in Engage, while also bringing a lot of characters together in like forging bonds or even the duos, to give us some extra info or show interactions between characters that don't meet in their own game

Its funny that Lyn having a kid at 16/17 is unacceptable in a medieval fantasy setting, when most women in the real medieval ages had kids before the age of 20, and in some places as soon as they could bleed (Game of Thrones wasn't kidding on that part).
There actually is a little bit of circumstantial evidence to support Tellius and Fodlan existing in the Archanea timeline, Priam being probably the biggest piece of evidence for Tellius. Though it's really up to personal interpretation whether you consider him canon or not. Iirc some of Archanea's legendary weapons can be obtained in 3H (Parthia and whatnot), of course this isn't great evidence, but it exists.
I'm playing Awakening now and Forseti (a character from Geneology) is a tome you can get through spotpass. Likely just homages, but the argument could definitely be made that they're connected

I will say I was honestly a little surprised to hear you bring up a Xenologue for a connection between Arcanea and "Fates-Land" when Laslow, Odin and Selena are literally characters from Awakening that moved to Nohr at some point, but maybe I'm just too much of a Fates nerd. Other than that and the casual mode thing(which I saw another commenter already corrected), this is some nicely researched stuff! As far as I can tell at least lol I also wanna say, I had a VERY similar experience with Scarlet, but when I was playing Conquest instead of Revelations. I'd married her both of the times I played through Birthright, so imagine my horror when I finally played Conquest and found that they'd flayed the love of my life like an animal literally two seconds after she was spared. The 3rd bullet point for Path of Radiance being one of your top 3 favorites leaves me to wonder if you'd like Nekopara lol. Anyway, my top 3 consists of Genealogy of the Holy War, Three Houses and Echoes Shadows of Valentina. My reasoning for these being my top 3 boils down to the fact that they're all player phased focused titles (which I tend to enjoy way more than enemy phase focused games because the ladder more often than not have optimal strategies boiling down to 1-2 ranged Leroy Jenkins which I kinda hate in what's supposed to be a strategy game) with decent strong stories and character writing. Binding Blade and the Tellius games are close runer ups.
awesome video!i didn't hear about much of the topics so thats great! just would like to say some stuff: the awakening dlc has different portrait for each characters because it is to honor the anniversary of the series, like how leif is drawn by sachiko wada, the artist and designer for sacred stones. also would adore if you did a follow-up with maybe adding content like the original fire emblem manga 'hasha no tsurugi' that's slightly based in binding blade, or even anything related to the mangas!

Vestaria saga is made using srpg studio, which has pretty terrible default graphics. I use that program myself, and I definitely am doing everything I can to make my games not look like that

I like the spin-offs, but you aren't dumb for not liking them, they are, after all, completely different genres. If you like tactical RPGs and play this series because they are tactical RPGs, it's understandable if you aren't into the musou games.

I do not tolerate Vestaria Saga slander!!!! Yes, it looks unpolished and like it was made in SRPG maker (because it was). However it's narrative and characters are top notch, and it has an insane amount of interesting unit and map designs. It's so sad seeing so many people immediately disregard Vestaria Saga just because of its looks, since It honestly is a great game.

The whole Fates/Relevation thing still makes me (rationally?) angry. I got the complete edition the day it came out, but not everyone did. IS went “lol, non canon” for two thirds of the content in their game and that still amazes me
@WesDoesGames I think the story is pretty interesting. The whole premise is byleth never became the professor and all the changes that come with that. Also it expands on some of the background characters that are only mentioned in three houses

Awakening: My first fire emblem game and the one that got me into SRPG.
Three houses: The conversation I had with people and friends about which house we picked was really cool.
Engage: Funnest, game I have ever play. Maybe there's something better like "Unicorn overlord" or "Project Triangle" but Engage is what make me want to explore those games.
Now let me tell you my least favorite FE game (That I have played). Echos was so boring and had no replay value. I do thank it for introducing time wheel though.

I take it they weren't proud enough of New Mystery to sell it to us, but that might have helped the greater fandom learn of the modes and options it introduced. Still, you ARE among fans, so you definitely can't get away with that any more than 'FE13 introduced the Avatar!', or even 'FE12 introduced the Avatar!!!'.
My favorite thing about the FE community is the universal agreement that the Fates continent is canonically named "Fateslandia". ESPECIALLY because of the fact that Fates is not the name of the game in Japanese. That makes it so much better to me

Comment about Lyn's age topic- Roy and Lilina are 15 in FE6 so they would be born 5 years after the end of FE7, so even if Lyn was 15 she would have been 20 at the time. But also Lyn is only 15 at the beginning of the game in the JP version and there are two 1 year time skips not counting all the time traveling and battling (And the fact that she would technically be at least 15 and a half at the start of the game because we learn her age through the letter her mother sent out, the mother who has been dead for six months.) so she's probably still around 18 at the end of JP FE7.

They probably changed it because people might find it iffy that the relationship started when she was 15? Even though it doesn't make that much sense because Eliwood and Hector are 17 at the start of the game.
It really shouldn't be so much of an issue but Americans by and large seem to be extremely sensitive about that stuff so my guess is the change was made by someone who did not really notice how much time really elapses during the game and wanted to avoid minors implied to have had sex.
@@elecrom_9757 while it’s not that unusual for a 17-year-old boy to date a 16-year-old girl (as Lyn would be after the one-year time skip), the game doesn’t explicitly say that Eliwood and Hector are 17, or that Lyn is now 16.
You can do the math, of course: Eliwood and Hector have fought 30 duels, once every two months since they were 12 (as explained in their C support). But the game doesn’t expect its player base to do the math.

A few corrections:
-Casual mode was introduced in New Mystery, not in Awakening.
-New Mystery also introduced the avatar system.
-BS Fire Emblem/Archanea Saga is 100% canon to the series.
-Vesteria Saga actually WAS made in RPG Maker, or at least the SRPG equivalent "SRPG Studio." Enterbrain is the former developer of the RPG Maker series and Kaga has been heavily involved in the Japanese RM community since the early 2000s. Also Vesteria Saga has very good map design, gameplay, and story. It's also quite funny. Highly recommend it even if the graphics are ass.
-Tellius takes place in a different world from Archanea definitively. Ike or Mist's descendants got to Archanea from an outrealm gate somewhere outside of Tellius across the sea and eventually led to Priam many generations later. My headcanon is that Mist and Boyd's son ended up leaving to Arcanea while searching for Ike and getting trapped in Archanea.
-It is confirmed the outrealm gate is primarily dimensional travel, but it can do time travel as well.
-There are absolutely no links between Elibe and Archanea. They're in different universes. Also their lore contradicts each other. Magvel also has no links to the main universe.
-Three Hopes is not a spinoff and is canon to Fodlan. Just because it's a different genre doesn't mean it's not canon and it contains information essential for understanding Fodlan lore. It even has the same developers and writers as Three Houses. It is canon, unlike Warriors which is a complete nonsense spinoff and Tokyo Mirage Sessions which is more-so a Persona game than a Fire Emblem game.
-Super Paper Mario is a good game. It may not be a traditional RPG rather being a 2D platformer with minor RPG mechanics but it's still super fun with a great story and atmosphere and fun mechanics. It's FAR better than crap like Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King. Origami King could have been good tho if they just ditched turn based battles entirely and made the combat more like Zelda as the devs clearly wanted to do.
I was amazed to learn Kaga had such involvement with Rpg maker (I'm writing an rpg maker video script now. Go figure). I'll give Three Hopes a go, I've had a few other commenter's recommend it, and I'm not too stubborn to change my mind.

@@WesDoesGames I assume you also haven't played Thracia but the game feels like a watered down Thracia imho, especially since I played BB right AFTER I played Thracia. A lot of the map design felt drawn out to the point of absurdity, especially in the later chapters. There is a lot of padding design and what I deem to be fairly artificial difficulty.
Also it is the game that gave me an eternal dislike of every Bolting sorcerer ever.
I wish to emphasize this was also on Normal mode.
I don't want to go into too much detail as to not spoil anything for you, overall it's a game that commited the cardinal sin of being both boring and annoying. I absolutely love Hikaru Midorikawa’s performance as Marth. Crazy to think these days many people confuse him for a different voice actor because of how deep his voice has gotten over the years of voicing Marth. (Like the transition from Smash Melee to Smash Ultimate and such.)

Regarding the worlds being connected, there's a theory that Fodlan is in the same world as both Archanea/Ylisse and maybe Elibe. For Elibe the theory goes that Sothis is actually a dragon from the Nabata desert, hence her children being known as the Nabateans. As for Archanea and Ylisse, the Regalia weapons Gradivus, Parthia and Hauteclere are present in Fodlan

Great iceberg. Here are some of my favorite secrets, easter eggs, and theories that weren't mention:
Fe7 canto+ glitch: if one of your mounted unit's attack on an active tile, they can use their extra move to move after fighting. For example, you can torch staff a tile and then attacked on it with a flier.
Fe7 Ninian arena exploit: Ninian's grace and then rescue that unit. Next turn, drop them, dance them so they go into the arena buffed up, rescue them again, and repeat.
Fe4 opening cutscenes: a different scene is added to the opening for each time you've beaten the game. These extra scenes are very cool and give context to the story such as how Lewyn survived.
Fe4 easter egg items: So many cool items are actively hidden and can be found when you place a specific unit in the middle of nowhere. For example, kill a certain boss with Seliph and place him in a certain spot.
Kaga's notes for Fe4: Kaga's notes had what if scenerios for Genealogy because Genealogy was originally going to be split up into 3 parts instead of 2. These scenarios would take place somewhere between the first and second half of the game.
Thracia 776 stone statues: at the end of ch.4 , there is cutscene of Julius with four statues in each corner of the room he is in. These statues are theorized to be characters from the first part of Genealogy that were turned into stone.
Thanks for sharing! I haven't heard of any of these minus the extra scenes from FE4. I had to search forever to find that clip of Forseti resurrecting Lewyn. I didnt know there were more scenes as well though, that's such a cool detail. Wish newer games would do stuff like that

Hey man, this is a very informative video! I think your research into the topics is well informed, which is good, because that's what you expect with this kind of topic. However, it's also very distracting when you're stopping the informative parts of the video to make the thirteenth jab at the quality of Engage. Totally understandable if you don't like whatever game you play, but when it comes to iceberg videos, I think it could stand to be a bit more objective. It really kind of stops being funny after the forth or fifth joke, and just feels weirdly petty towards an installment you didn't like. The point was made the first time, it really didn't need to be made several more times over.

1:07:00 or so: you actually don’t have to defeat Kishuna in “Genesis” to unlock Nergal’s and Nils’ extra dialogue, only in “Prisoner of Magic” (to unlock “A Glimpse in Time”) and “The Value of Life.”
You do have to play through “Genesis” though, just like the rest of the chapters featuring Kishuna. But scaring him away by attacking him or opening his door is enough.

Aktually the three houses devs have said that it might be in the same world as arcanea [all the places named after characters from fe1/fe4] and they have the Wo Dao [literally a thing said to be uniqe to Karel's family, so FE10, 11, and 12 having it puts Elibe telius and arcena in the same world lol (Either someone forgot or it's just cannon because in FE8 has the shamshir in place of the Wo Dao [literally same item id and stats] specifically to not have this kind of thing, but it's maybe? placed in acenea by the maybe? falchion legend)].
Basically only engage doesn't fit in one world lol, but even then it refers to Lucina, and marth/tiki being from different worlds so yeah with engage's writing "worlds" could literally mean other times, this is also something you have to accept for the Nils is Forsetti theory as the dragon's gate is said to be another world but it'd have to be another time because if FE7 and 4 are in the same world then FE4 has to be before 7 as the Ending winter or dragon decline hasn't happened by the time of the original crusades.

NO NO NO he doesn't say Anier in JP he say the equivalent of Ae... ir..., he misses the middle syllable as such it's unclear which he says, the real problem is that the translation didn't make Anier and quintessence share letters/syllables to make the death quote vague like in the original.
I also think this vague nature makes the death quote much more tragic, being unclear if Anier is even vaguely remembered. [tbh they should have just called quintessence Aegir like the JP script]
Feye's AVO doesn't matter as you should anticipate her getting hit unless she's on a grave anyway lol, she's not exactly a great dodge tank and you usually have her go cleric for dance or mage to be good anyway which neither want to be on the front lines because they are oft at low HP or attacking from range.
The Elibe Fire emblem is gem that locks away the binding blade and is used in Bern's coronation ceremony, it's not what seals Idunn, she is sealed by binding blade inside the dragon temple due to Hartmut feeling bad for her and not wanting to kill her, that's the same reason she's able to recover in the good ending, the binding blade makes the user's will reality.

[only enemy with affinity, is located right in the middle of the playable characters in the game data, literally has AI designed for him to be recruited (I made a thread on FEU {originally from another comment section} all about his AI titled "Galle's AI write up from 6 months ago")]
Same but with NIchol and Candance from fates. [Have crit lines, and cut-ins, Nichol has a real death quote and voice lines.(NO other capture bosses have these, not even some main story bosses have these)]

1.Binding Blade - tense, fun, many good and fun units to use
2.Fates Conquest - tight gameplay, great cast to use, has Ophelia, but endgame does fall off
3.FE:Echoes:SOV - great story and presentation, actually better gameplay than people give credit [there is a lot to the weapon and inventory system], maps are weak but not as bad as people say due to the focus on unit capabilities, still would have liked better maps tho.

I was pretty excited when Corrin was announced for Smash. And speaking of Smash, I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the Amiibo in Fates. You can battle Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina with units referencing their allies from their respective games. You can have them work at a shop and by their exclusive equipment, even Robin referencing the fact that weapons can’t break. But the most important part that when you have Odin, Selena, and Laslow battle Robin and Lucina, they recognize they not the same ones from Awakening, they’re actually from Super Smash Brothers. Smash was also mentioned in heroes. Now I think Legendary Roy attack finisher, but there is also Legendary Female Corrin’s special is Negating Fang which is called Counter Surge in Japanese and for the Weave of Fates Forging Bonds in Fire Emblem Heroes, Sothis was asleep and said “You must… join Smash.” Which is clearly a direct reference to Byleth’s reveal trailer in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.

I would like to see Cypher mentioned. Though it ended due to Feh, I did figure it was worth mentioning that that i did appear in Fire Emblem Games. For the Japanese version of Fates, there was a 3 Cypher characters that was given via a code. Cypher Marth, Cypher Lucina (Which is Masked Marth) and there is Cypher Minerva who is a unique Pegasus Knight Class where she has a S rank in Lances.
In Echoes, you get to recruit 4 of some the original Cypher Characters Emma, Ranzal, Slade and Yuzu through paying and it’s not regional locked.
I would like Warriors get talking about in some way in the iceberg, not to mention that Xander Promotion outfit is based on his Cypher Card
Though, I am curious if is any mention of crossover ideas, I know there was this unique item in Echoes called the Eleven Sword and the Eleven Shield that had enhanced ability, but only through turns 7 to 11. And apparently, you get a random (I assume Japanese) food item as well that all characters will find delicious, though it’s only happened in Japan.
Just saying, I think Path of Radiance, and probably Radiant Dawn, maybe both or one of them, are part of the same timeline too as Priam exists in Ylisse and Chrom and Robin apparently know of the Legendary Hero Ike and his exploits and Priam is Ike's descendant just as Walhart is the descendant of Alm and Celica. Jugdral seems to be connected directly too because in Thracia 776, beating the game and keeping Lifis alive says he ends up finding a country that ends up having problems very similar to what Archanea faces generations later.

They dont they both have entirely seperate and distinct lores and gods. With ashunera creating the zunanma and flooding the entire earth and the ylisse/valentia world being shaped ruled and created by divine dragons and subdragons like earth dragons (medeus mila and duma). The 12 deadlords we see in awakening arent even the original 12 deadlords either.
A lot of the fanservice in awakening is not meant to be taken seriously bc it was the last game in the series and the writers didnt gaf (most of theme didnt even work on the older games)

about skinship being removed in fire emblem fates - it was removed, technically. what you probably remember wasn't actually a part of the skinship minigame, but once s-supported with a partner would have minigames along the lines of skinship where you would blow into the microphone or tap on the screen.
also 1:11:01 this doesn't normally show up at the end of the game because it has a ton of prerequisites (second playthrough, save data transfer from fe9 with ike and soren A support in both games, certain deployments in certain maps, having certain characters fight against each other in certain chapters, etc.) so it's usually missed because of all of the prerequisites this specific scene needs. and a bonus about this: in the second volume of the tellius recollection that if he did learn that he was the prince of daein he really wouldn't care because he had taken his own path.
other than that this was an entertaining watch! loved the old ads placed in between. this was great dude keep up the good work

There is a different theory I've seen about Marianne's fate if she goes unrecruited in other routes that I personally like more:
She goes to her paralogue alone like she normally does, but since she doesn't have allies to rescue her, she ends up dying in there since it is a difficult paralogue.
It's still tragic but it's much better than the alternative of her taking her own life. Especially since she probably found some happiness with the Golden Deer similarly to what happens with Bernadetta and the Black Eagles even if you don't recruit her.
I do like that theory but being killed alone doesn't seem much happier, lol

interestingly, about the Celica fact being the first lord to die without a game-over,
its actually in fact, Corrin from Fates who was the first lord character that was able to die without a game-over, specifically in casual mode, where normally lords dying would be game-over. but Corrin actually lives and retreats in casual mode.
so Celica deff would've been the 2nd lord in the series to die without a game-over, if echoes kept that in, as Corrin's the 1st lord to do this.
other than that I always felt like FE6 was a very weird FE game, weird in the fact that its a "Sequel before the Prequel", despite it giving us Roy in smash.

I spent about 5 months or so of my life since April of last year going through every Fire Emblem game from Genealogy up until Fates, having previously also played Awakening, 3 Houses and Engage (the latter of which actually inspired me to go on the journey).
It was a heck of a ride, lots of really high ups (the tellius games) and really low lows (shadow dragon and new mystery), but it never ceased to at least provide a new experience with each game, and now has provided me with a few new favorites of all time.
I'm looking forward to seeing how much of this I can actually recognize, as I don't really interact with the community at large and played the games at my own time and pace and mostly blind (apart from Thracia for which I followed a guide).
That's awesome, I'd love to take that journey someday too. Were Shadow Dragon and NM unenjoyable for story or gameplay?

I've played through the majority of the games in the series, but i think fates will always hold a special place in my heart. i think it did ride off the success of awakening for sure, and leaned hard into anime tropes more than its predecessors, but to me its a pretty good game. a lot more goofy and nonsensical for sure at times (nothing will ever be funnier to me than the baby microwave pocket dimensions being canon), but the gameplay and its cast has stayed memorable to me

I would include either him or Ninian on every possible map and would make sure that every turn, and I mean EVERY turn, he would dance. Even if there was no practical reason I would always do it just for the EXP. Even when I was just spamming end turn I would have a unit wait in the same spot and then have him dance. He ended up reaching level 20 during the final map and on his final level up he got HP36-->HP37 which meant he could survive the dragons attack meaning I could have Athos attack and lose most of his health, safely have Nills dance and have Athos move away and have my only staff user left, Erk, who only had 36 health, heal Athos to full health and just do that repeatedly. Some may called this exploiting, but for me it shows that all that grinding paid off.

Having Nils as child Lewyn is crazy good. It would link the entire series together, as I see FE8 as the Gaiden to FE6+FE7. Magvel always seemed like the Australia continent to me, just a big ol island by itself. The only way we truly would know is in the FE4 remake. It actually makes a lot of sense to have Elibe be even farther in the past, especially considering they are the games that come immedately after judgral and the literal telling and showing of when there were still dragons living amongst humans even after the gate was closed. They surely used a lot of ideas and themes Kaga had lying around or shared with the group, and I'm sure they wanted to keep the series together in one universe still. i see the map like this and accoring to actual in game size, Judgral is like all of asia, Elibe is Europe, Archanea is North America, Valentia is South America, Magvel is Australia, Tellius is in a different timeline, I assume Fodlan is a continent north of Elibe, and Fateslandia is an ancient kingdom I assume that is now destroyed but from a far away pocket of some other continent. Basically only 3H now is the odd man out if they dont blatantly say it's stand alone like Tellius.
actually there is a theory that three houses is still connected to awakening, in a sense that fodland is the world lucina left behind in order to change the future where grima awakened

If I was to throw in a few dubious theories that might be worthy of the iceberg (some of these involve heroes and warriors sorry for that):
1. Tharja is the unofficial canon wife of male Robin or is at least Female Morgan’s biological mother: Tharja is literally the only woman to consistently show interest in Robin across all entries (duh) however Warriors seems to hint that Robin is actually kind of fond of her back even if he’s still a bit weirded out by her. She also showed up on his Brave Alt demonstration team for heroes alongside Morgan and Chrom, such a team is usually made up of people the character is closest with. Given female Morgan’s default hair color is also black I’d say it’s possible our crazy dark mage got what she wanted. Before anyone brings up Lucina, the way their relationship is portrayed tends to look more like Uncle Niece than anything else outside of awakening.
2. Edelgard was taken to Faerghus for her protection and possibly to serve as counter coup: evidence seems to suggest that Hubert’s father and the real lord Arundel saw what was coming with the nobles likely already jockeying against Edelgard’s father. So Arundel faked a defection to Faerghus and took Edelgard with him to help secure a possible alliance with King Lambert who was known to be a very outwardly looking and reform minded king, his wife also being Arundel’s sister. Edelgard was kept weirdly isolated in Faerghus it seems as not even Felix, Sylvain, and Ingrid who were Dimitri’s close friends at the time seemed to have met her even the Queen being bizarrely kept out of the loop. Edelgard’s location seems to have been top secret suggesting she may have basically been intended as a designated survivor. However the Agarthans seemed to have successfully turned Hubert’s father sometime after this and Thales murdered and replaced the real lord Arundel who then took Edelgard back to the Empire and the rest is gruesome human experimentation, a traumatized girl learning that religion is a lie, and inevitable bloody war.
3. Grima may have been made by from Duma’s child: This one is speculation I’ve heard floating around but Grima does have some likeness to Duma both in design and in operation.
I think Robin and Tharja being canon makes alot of sense

When will the fire emblem players finally stop to try to impose their favorite parings as the CaNoN one ? It has been confirmed that multiple versions of the same world coexist in a multiverse so technically all the ways the game can end is canon in at least one timeline. Robin is not even always a man. And most hint on spin off were added because Tharja has became a popular waifu.

Okay great video, I really enjoyed the deep dive and have learned a lot of things, the only thing I have to say is not mentioning fire emblem heroes here is in my opinion "wrong" even though that's a strong word. In my opinion it's Canon by Veronica being present in Engage, while also bringing a lot of characters together in like forging bonds or even the duos, to give us some extra info or show interactions between characters that don't meet in their own game

There actually is a little bit of circumstantial evidence to support Tellius and Fodlan existing in the Archanea timeline, Priam being probably the biggest piece of evidence for Tellius. Though it's really up to personal interpretation whether you consider him canon or not. Iirc some of Archanea's legendary weapons can be obtained in 3H (Parthia and whatnot), of course this isn't great evidence, but it exists.
I'm playing Awakening now and Forseti (a character from Geneology) is a tome you can get through spotpass. Likely just homages, but the argument could definitely be made that they're connected

I will say I was honestly a little surprised to hear you bring up a Xenologue for a connection between Arcanea and "Fates-Land" when Laslow, Odin and Selena are literally characters from Awakening that moved to Nohr at some point, but maybe I'm just too much of a Fates nerd. I also wanna say, I had a VERY similar experience with Scarlet, but when I was playing Conquest instead of Revelations. I'd married her both of the times I played through Birthright, so imagine my horror when I finally played Conquest and found that they'd flayed the love of my life like an animal literally two seconds after she was spared. Anyway, my top 3 consists of
Genealogy of the Holy War,
Three Houses
and Echoes Shadows of Valentina.
My reasoning for these being my top 3 boils down to the fact that they're all player phased focused titles (which I tend to enjoy way more than enemy phase focused games because the ladder more often than not have optimal strategies boiling down to 1-2 ranged Leroy Jenkins which I kinda hate in what's supposed to be a strategy game) with decent strong stories and character writing. Binding Blade and the Tellius games are close runer ups.
I definitely like the better-story games as well. I'm afraid to Google Nekopara, haha

the awakening dlc has different portrait for each characters because it is to honor the anniversary of the series, like how leif is drawn by sachiko wada, the artist and designer for sacred stones.
also would adore if you did a follow-up with maybe adding content like the original fire emblem manga 'hasha no tsurugi' that's slightly based in binding blade, or even anything related to the mangas!

Vestaria saga is made using srpg studio, which has pretty terrible default graphics. I use that program myself, and I definitely am doing everything I can to make my games not look like that
I just learned that Enterbrain also made the Rpg maker programs, so it's all making sense now

I just gathered topics from different icebergs and sources rather than pulling from just one source. Some topics are too niche or not super interesting so I need to be selective
I like the spin-offs, but you aren't dumb for not liking them, they are, after all, completely different genres. If you like tactical RPGs and play this series because they are tactical RPGs, it's understandable if you aren't into the musou games.
Revelation is not the canon ending because all the endings that you can get in the games are canon at the same time since it has been confirmed that multiple versions of the same world coexist in a multiverse.

Yes, it looks unpolished and like it was made in SRPG maker (because it was). However it's narrative and characters are top notch, and it has an insane amount of interesting unit and map designs.
It's so sad seeing so many people immediately disregard Vestaria Saga just because of its looks, since It honestly is a great game.

@WesDoesGames I think the story is pretty interesting. The whole premise is byleth never became the professor and all the changes that come with that. Also it expands on some of the background characters that are only mentioned in three houses
