Got the P-90 right, there's no mistaking it and it's my favourite. I was surprised the Lace Sensors sounded worse then the Special's HB, IMHO. I guess the UA-cam compression favours the brighter pups. Congrats on the winner!
Got my first guitar with P90s a few months ago (2018 Firebird studio) and I ve been addicted ever since. Love the fact that they were created in the 1940s and they re still relevant, those guys pretty much nailed it on the first go, like Leo Fender with the tele
My first-ever electric guitar was an Epiphone Les Paul Special II (black). I sold it when I was moving provinces, but when I went to get a new electric in my new place, even after trying a ton of other guitars, I bought another Epiphone Les Paul Special II (red burst). They just feel like home. Congrats to the winner!
P90 has that nasal sound that is so distinctive, sounds like a telecaster on steroids... Being a subscriber for a while it was easy to guess what the mystery guutar was.. you own so many version of that same model lol Congrats to the winner, you'll love that little epi as your first !
Congrats to the winner! I don't even recall their name because my mind was blown away by all the new special effects. Landon is about to be a hundredaire. Maybe a thousandaire! Calm down Goons. Lets not get everyone's hopes up.
Which tastes better, chicken or beef? 🤔😉 I guessed correctly. The P90 has a lot more top and mid than the Hamburgers. I also guessed that the Epi humbuckers where a little less muddy than the wild card. I still don't own a guitar with P90s but I'm about to build a guitar and I will probably put some in that. Congrats to the winner. 👍
@@j.a.s.1416 truth. I bought a 2014 gibson melody maker with 2 p90s. Sold the les paul lpj and various fenders I had the next day. Just that one guitar into a vox ac15 is all I play own now.
@@hutchfromba Huh ? The guitars I mentioned above all have P90'S and they don't sound the same at all. Go play them and you'll come to the same conclusion. I didn't mention a Tele.
The Blind Tone Challenge was for me a "just right" length and plenty clear enough using headphones to discern significant differences between the guitars.
I mixed up the Lace pickup and the P-90, but here's the order I ranked them in from one I like the best: Tele with Lace pickup Epi Les Paul Jr w/P90 Epi Les Paul Special It's important to say that all 3 had very useable tones.
I really liked X, but oddly thought Z would be the P90 after the crunch sounds. Odd. I fail at this. The Lace was really nice in crunch, not so much in clean. The P90 was excellent, and the Epi Humbucker was middling in both. My bridge P90s are very "rip your face off" even in clean.
I went off of what I liked and for the dirty I didn't end up caring one way or the other. I liked them all but for the clean I liked Y. Z was close but there was a little hum in there that felt a tad out of place.
Didn't know which was which, but preferred Z to Y & X. The order of preference was Z, Y & X in win, place, show order. Y & Z I figured were Humbuckers, they were closer to sounding alike for the clean demo, as well as the dirty. All 3 were pretty good sounding, the Humbuckers seemed like they had a little more boom to them.
Congrats Briansgate.... I like your movies! I did get them right. The P90 is clear as a single coil should be and the humbucker is darker and fuller. The third was different and I expected another single coil to really throw us off but no. I had no clue what it was beyond different. Fun video!!! later
Definitely got the junior right... p90’s have that unique super-fat, mid range single coil tone. Definitely thought the special was the third one b/c usually epiphone pickups are not as articulate and there is a general “fuzziness” to the overdrive because of the output level. That last pickup must be pretty output heavy (like in the 9/10k range)
I got the P90 right. . And I have a Les Paul special I with P90's and I found it on Facebook for $40 .. best $40 I ever spent! Love P90's will never sell it.

I liked the y on clean and the Z on dirt. I didn’t have a clue which was which but that’s your fault because the stuff you do in the background is so funny 😂😂. Congratulations to the winner. 👍👍👍
I got it right, but P90 vs Humbuckers shootouts are never definitive for me. I've seen many videos where the P90s were better and many where they were worse. I find it really depends on the particular pickups being used in a shootout. I've heard PAFs sound clearer than P90s, so I can only assume the PAFs were true vintage voiced, while the P90s were probably modern high output. But then I've heard P90s be clearer than Humbuckers, like in this comparison. And I've heard vintage P90s on 50s Goldtop Gibsons that were more glassy and clear than any modern P90 I've ever heard. Basically I think it comes down to whether they are modern spec with a higher output, which makes pickups muddy; or vintage (or vintage spec), and are lower wound and unpotted (and thus a little microphonic, which makes them clearer).
I couldn't tell which was which. They all sounded very similar but all were good tones. Maybe it's because I'm watching on my iPhone 5, which is ten years old.
It really depends on the humbucker used. Epiphone Probuckers to me sound a little muddier than the Burstbuckers, and the ceramic ones Epiphone uses in some models are much brighter. There are even a few Epiphones with Seymour Duncan humbuckers and those are much hotter and clearer to me. So tough comparison.
It was pretty easy to tell the first was the P90 and then it was even easier to figure out the next two. What ever was in the Tele was WAY better sounding. That beibg said, that Tele looks for more expensive.

Of course I‘m pissed you didn‘t pick me to win the Paula. And I don‘t want a Squire. 😁 But I‘m not gonna unsuscribe. Not yet. 😂 The challenge was easy. But only for someone that has a guitar of each type. The question shouldn‘t be „what did you like better?“, but „what guitar is for what job?“ and in what settng do you want to use it. You don‘t lug around a ton of guitars if only one or two could produce all the sounds you need on stage or in the studio. Studio is even a little different, as a good engineer can almost come up with anything that will suit the song. Well, almost. 😝
I got the les Paul special right but probably because I own 2 of them and play them everyday lol ! but I was really supprized at guitar z it was very impressive , so much I will definatly check one out . thank you bro love your info vidios .
None sounded bad. I guessed correctly and was thinking the Lace Tele was in there. Any of these 3 would make me happy sonically. The funny thing I have noticed is how many guitarists on UA-cam (including you) get better clean tones than those used on most of the modern songs today being released by record labels.
In your demo, I feel like the P90 sounded under-powered compared to the standard Epi Humbucker. I guessed the mystery guitar as a Fender, but I had no clue about the Lace pick-up. That’s new to me. I liked the fuzzy presentation of the Lace, but somehow it also had all the range of the P90. If that is possible. Thanks for this comparison. It was helpful.
