I just picked up one of these bad boys! Love the baseball bat neck . It’s a slab of mahogany , nice fretting solid built good hardware. You really can’t go wrong with this one. This is Epiphone s guitar for the people. This would be a great guitar to start a collection with.
Got one of these when they first released. Spot on review! It does everything a proper Junior should do. Fat neck, fat P90 tone, just pure rock n' roll! I did use a Lollar P90 shim to raise the pickup a little bit and found the sweet spot. Also got the 2020 Epiphone Special and that guitar is awesome as well. Now I just need Epiphone to make a double cutaway model!
Thanks. Your videos are among the few that I love watching your intros and jam outs because they are natural and free feeling. I also appreciate how you show the details that most channels don't in a very natural way. Thanks for being one of the very best guitar channels on the vast internet.
Acoustic guitar background - love the feel of the wraparound bridge. I simply dropped the 2nd and 3rd string down to a thinner gauge and intonation is spot on. Replaced the machines with Grovers and may change the electronics. Aesthetically the pickguard and veneers don't appeal. A 3-4 piece body isn't a bad thing; the saved $ going sans pickguard and veneers may pay for better quality wood. As always, a thorough and entertaining review by Colin.
I said no more guitars this year but have somehow managed to buy a strat, les paul and this les paul Jr 😂😂😂. All second hand and for less than £200 a piece. They all sound AMAZING! Keep the great vids coming ⚡️
Thanks for an excellent review! After watching a few reviews of this guitar, yours was the one that convinced me to buy one. My volume pot did not work like yours unfortunately, (Feb '21 model), but after countless guitar rewires and amp builds over the years I have come to the realisation that cts pot tapers are highly inconsistent, I replaced mine with a linear taper and it works through the whole range very nicely now, and whilst I was in there I pulled the cheapo brown .022 "greencap" and put in a nice juicy P.I.O. .033 cap and now it's perfect for my tone taste. I did change the bridge for a Wilkinson with adjustment just because I happened to have one spare, but it made it buzz and didn't feel as good under the hand so off with that and back to the stock bridge. The intonation with the stock bridge is perfect on mine anyway, and feels fine under the hand. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my example only has a 2 piece body joined in the middle under the veneers, nicely flat sawn, so great sound transference and very resonant. All in all I think they are a great value for $$ guitar that you don't need to be precious about and can really let go and hook in. The neck is better than the standard Epiphone D shape but still has a bit of D going on, I prefer the roundness of the Gibson version. How does this neck compare to the tv yellow Epi special neck? Thanks again my friend. Cheers from a happy new Epi Jnr. player. ;)
Hey Stevie, nice one man! I guess you are right about inconsistent pots but glad you got that dialled in nicely in the end. I haven’t felt need to change anything on mine yet but may do in future.... did you check out the 4 way p90 shoot out I posted this week? Careful though you may end up wanting another! Re the necks... the neck on the yellow LP Special is fatter, that’s assuming your junior is same as mine of course which it should be I guess? Anyway cheers man thanks for the support catch you later! 😎👍🎸
@@theguitaristas Thanks, and yes I did check that vid out, and very well done it was too, but the Epi seemed a cut above the others to me. Haha, another guitar, well if it wasn't mustard/TV yellow I'd go for the Special, can't have too many p90's ;) hmmm, maybe I could live with the colour...

Great vid! I have the same Epi LPJ, it's incredible and now my favourite! But I was surprised at the height of the strings above the P90, I could get my finger in mine and it looks the same on your vid. Then I discovered Gibson say it should be 3/64" so mine was way out! However, you can get shims, they're the same colour and profile as the P90 so not noticeable .I got a set and raised the P90 to the right height, there's an obvious increase in volume and a slight improvement tone.

Hey Allan! I think they are pretty much same except I prefer the BJ one simply because of the colour… no so keen on the veneer finish. But both kick ass!! 😎👍
@@theguitaristas Got it today. Managed to intercept the delivery guy and sneak it into the house without the wife seeing, she won't notice a new one there are too many around the place. My only con is that the neck is a little thicker than I would prefer but apart from that it is a really bloody good guitar. Coming from Peach, the strings were detuned but are excellent strings and the guitar seems to have been set up really well. It plays well and sounds great. Been playing through my Katana and I'll try some valve amps tomorrow but this is an amazing guitar. I'm chuffed to bits!
Just got one these epiphones on sale for being blemished.though it def wasn't blemished it is scraped up quite a bit in places. And it buzzes a bit so I can see why someone didn't want ot
When you compare this Epi with the hassle you had with the Gibson junior makes me wonder why anyone ever buys Gibson's anymore. No problem with the finish, sounds nearly as good and costs peanuts in comparison. Not a fan of the veneers though.

Yeah I will do thanks 🙏 for the advice, I’ve just got stuck in a rut with guitar 🎸 even though I have my dream 🛌 guitar, I love ❤️ your channel I watch the same videos all the time, Kind regards Jason , keep on rocking in the 3 world 🌎.
I’ve got to put my oar in as regards poly and nitro cellulose nitro is much harder to work with if you have faults like scratches as poly has a hardener that makes it go off quickly and once it’s gone hard polishing can be very hard where as cellulose is normally air dry and it’s never truly hard so it’s way easier to polish.
A bit… I think the neck is nicer and personally I prefer the colour on the BJ. It also has a fabulous hard case. I think the Billie Joe version which is on discount offer everywhere right now is one of the best value guitars out there today. Mine features in this weeks forthcoming video 🔥👍
If you want an idea for a shootout get an eastman SB59 VS Gibson les paul standard I think you will be shocked by how good the Eastman is for two thirds of the price of the les paul std.
Well Colin, I must be honest to me self, I love Gibson, but me purse always says are you fucking MAD,!?!🤣 well but how many of us know and feel that? As you said, it's that feeling

Les paul jrs are my favorite guitar ❤😻
Here in the States, the Gibson Les Paul Junior costs as much as the Gibby LP Studio. Wonder how that works?!
Same here in UK pretty much!
I Own One ,,, The Only Major Thing It Needed Other Than A Nice Setup Was To Shim The Pickup Up ( I Made A 1/8" Shim Out Of Plexiglass, But Lollar Will Sell You One ) Afterwards It Sounded Amazing :) Bing On Your Best Leslie West Or Charlie Starr :)
Great sound - Epiphone is the way to go , for sure.
Amazing value , even with our government taking 20% stealth tax !
I have a 1989 sg - 400 Samick & a 2009 thunderbird - both great machines!
Cheers Eminor... I am definitely a convert!!
Since 2020 it seems that Epiphone have stepped up into guitars that people are gonna want , especially after they play them. Good times folks !
Colin: "If you're still here..."
Me, still here: 😎🎸
Nice review! (your reviews are always good, tho, lol)
I'm normally a HH guitar kinda guy, but looking at dipping my toe into the P90 world with this guitar.
What's the deal with the bridge and intonation? Obviously you can't adjust it...just gotta be happy with "close enough"?
You can adjust it enough so it’s really not something a blues or rock player needs to worry about 👍
I use epiphone les paul too sir.. I think it the best guitar in affordable price...
Just swap the pickup with your favourite, it become killer guitar...more closer/like the gibson 😁🤘
👍😎🎸
I think this pickup is great , am I just rook or ? Would I be amazed with an upgrade or something ?
@@benallmark9671 I think so...but change the pickups really depends on your music needs 😀
Another great demo I can’t watch anymore I think I have a disease more guitar syndrome thanks for having a great channel
Thanks Mrjfeb 👍 😂 ... just one more guitar maybe?? 🤣
Looks like you resolved the issue with that music store.
Not as far as I’m concerned... what makes you say that? 🤔
@@theguitaristas Weren't they the ones that sent you the dinged up Gibson? Or am I mistaken?
@@justiceforall6412 oh yes, I bought this and the Gibson from them together to review... definitely the last time I buy from them!
@@theguitaristas Oh I see. I thought so. I'm the same way. If you expect me to drop several hundred or even thousands of my hard earned cash with you I expect some kind of fairness and service from them.
Great review and display of the amazing P90. What's your opinion or comparison between this guitar and the Epiphone Billie Joe Armstrong Epiphone Les Paul Jr. Thanks again cobber
Hey Allan! I think they are pretty much same except I prefer the BJ one simply because of the colour… no so keen on the veneer finish. But both kick ass!! 😎👍
Thanks mate
Great video! Thank you.
Thanks man that’s appreciated 😎👍
just boughtan Epiphone one. Watching youtube guitar review videos and drinking shouldn't be allowed! Got it from Peach as well
Nice one Paul!... at least you bought the affordable version, that hangover could have been a lot worse! 😂
@@paulmckeown5672 Nice one! 😀👍
so this or the Billy Joe Armstrong Jr., or a Vintage V120? Which would you pick?
Billie Joe for the colour and neck 👍👍
Just got one these epiphones on sale for being blemished.though it def wasn't blemished it is scraped up quite a bit in places. And it buzzes a bit so I can see why someone didn't want ot
Set it up nice and you’ll be buzzing! 😁👍
When you compare this Epi with the hassle you had with the Gibson junior makes me wonder why anyone ever buys Gibson's anymore. No problem with the finish, sounds nearly as good and costs peanuts in comparison. Not a fan of the veneers though.
Veneers are the weak link for sure.... solid black or white would be very cool!
Easy bro 😎 I own this guitar and I love ❤️ it with both knobs at 10 doing the New York Dolls thing but could you please give me a bit of advice in music 🎵 to use the other gentle side of the p90 plz? 👍
I’ve got a 15 watt marshal amplifier
Hey Jason, check out some of our other films... Gibson LP Special Tribute and then the Les Paul Specials shootout... we explore the controls in both those so should give you some inspiration! Cheers dude thanks for comment! 😎👍🎸
Yeah I will do thanks 🙏 for the advice, I’ve just got stuck in a rut with guitar 🎸 even though I have my dream 🛌 guitar,
I love ❤️ your channel I watch the same videos all the time,
Kind regards Jason , keep on rocking in the 3 world 🌎.
@@jasoncolley4102 Cheers man! 👍
I’m a X Trogley subscriber
The original king nerd of guitar nerds!!.... We love the troglodyte! 🙌
What are your superpowers!!!! ;)
(I just picked up one of these - came to your video to see what you said, cuz you always give good advice. :) )
Nice one! 😎👍
Question mate , you like this one better or the yellow one from Epiphone?
The yellow special 👍
I’ve got to put my oar in as regards poly and nitro cellulose nitro is much harder to work with if you have faults like scratches as poly has a hardener that makes it go off quickly and once it’s gone hard polishing can be very hard where as cellulose is normally air dry and it’s never truly hard so it’s way easier to polish.
Cheers for this, but Nitro can be polished out properly right if you put the time and right materials into it? 🎸✌️
is there any difference between this and Billie Joe version
A bit… I think the neck is nicer and personally I prefer the colour on the BJ. It also has a fabulous hard case. I think the Billie Joe version which is on discount offer everywhere right now is one of the best value guitars out there today. Mine features in this weeks forthcoming video 🔥👍
Peach guitars rule, baby.
ps: Love the British accent. ; )
Thanks fella! 😜🎸🎸🎸
Oh man. I can't decide between this lp jr or Epi sg special.🤔
Oooh... I am on the side of the SG Special. Both is better though! 😆👍
either, SG Special, but put in a 3way switch and discard 2 knobs ! or LP Jr and route in a p90 at the neck ! .... 4 knobs R useless!
Idk there’s something about British blokes talking guitars that makes me listen hence why I bought one 🤣🤣🤣
I have an Indonesian made Epiphone Custom Shop LPJ, ltd edition. Every bit as good as this
👍🏻👍🏻 Good job!
Cheers dude! 👍
I love this channel
Out of this Epiphone Les Paul Junior and your Epiphone Coronet, which did you find better?
I think the coronet.
What are the tuners like?
Absolutely fine 👍
If you want to raise the height of the pick-up, you can get a shim quite easily.😅
If you want an idea for a shootout get an eastman SB59 VS Gibson les paul standard I think you will be shocked by how good the Eastman is for two thirds of the price of the les paul std.
Cheers dude, hope to get to try an Eastman at some point for sure! 🎸😎
@@theguitaristas cool thanks for responding btw great channel I love geeking out on guitars and stuff.👍
Well Colin, I must be honest to me self, I love Gibson, but me purse always says are you fucking MAD,!?!🤣 well but how many of us know and feel that? As you said, it's that feeling
Top review
Thanks James! 👍🎸😎
Trying to get one of these in a lefty, they do make them but sold out everywhere....if anyone has one for sale please reply in the comments, cheers....
Sweetwater has a good lefty selection.
There is really no reason gibson charge 1599 for that guitar, the junior should be the ultimate sub 1k american made guitar
“I know if they’re over 10lbs because…” 😹
If I don't stop watchin your schtick I'm going to be broke and divorced. 🤣
Epiphone sent me the whole tail piece assembly free for the missing intonation screw on my LP Special.
js
Some people are just too British
🤣
Cause they’re fuckin heavy hahaha
Cheap prices are not all that amazing when you consider the wages paid in China.
Plus the lack of essentially any OSHA/environmental regulations.
I'm not getting political, just stating the truth.
Hey young man ..Help me on this one...Why do you and 99% of you tube reviewers mention every aspect of a guitar in great detail ..but..never mention the actual weight ?! .. it’s not like a hand scale is a big investment . 😎🎸
Cheers Ed, you say 'you and..' so I am wondering did you notice I was the 1% that actually weighed it?... I quickly discovered that my guitar weight guessing skills were no match for the correct equipment! 👍🎸😎
@@theguitaristas I forgot to say ...your channel rocks ! Keep on keeping on young man 👍😎🎸
He did weigh it.
Now you've gone and done it.
I want an Epiphone Les Paul Jr with a P90.
I dunno how you pull off those sustain notes... I'm trying to riff some off on the Reverend HPP put haven't figured it out yet.
Great playing again!
Cheers!... you may need to unsubscribe as I plan to keep rolling out guitars you are gonna need! :) The fixed wraparound bridge on old skool Juniors helps the tone on these things... whatever people may say about them they are killer and with added P90 it's pure rock n roll heaven! Thanks as usual for supporting the channel! :)
@@theguitaristas hahahaha, never gonna unsubscribe! I'll just have to work harder and support my guitar collection.
P90's are a marvelous musical invention.
Appropriate riff, to demo a Junior. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner used Juniors, on Lou Reeds live album, Rock and Roll Animal, track, Sweet Jane.
Outstanding album that! 🙌🔥
hey man, Nice demo ! P90s should be under Websters for " Articulate " /ärˈtikyələt/
