    🦒🙌🌻🌞I'm glad you finally can put your mind at rest about these orchids, it is something less to be concerned about !!! Something must have gone wrong with hybridization and deformaties are just it and make them unique. Really too bad those virus kits are so expensive, otherwise they would sell a lot. Virus is the feared word and everythime an orchid does something different it comes to mind.
    How are you doing today? I hope you are getting at least a little bit better. Have a great saturday, take care, keeping warm and cosy 💖🤗😍

      FFF 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️😍🥳🥳❤️💐meine liebe Freundin!! I can, and I am also glad that the chapter is done, no more guessing (well, maybe that spike on the newest fan 😅, but not the saga of 'don't fertilize!') back to normal procedure 👍🏼unfortunate thing is, I cannot give it away... so, I shall keep little ugly duckling and well, they are unique, no? 🤪I feel as though I am getting better, thank you for asking! I don't want to become too comfortable with that thought because... cold feet all day long 👎🏼still coughing and the neighbor lady checked on me because she could hear it while I am outside. Ooops! No where to go to cough in private 😬but it was nice of her to ask, and if the roles were reversed, I would have done the same thing ... see if there is anything I could do to help. My chest still hurts, but I can breathe freely, which, imo, is sooo important! Been a cold and cloudy day, no more than 13ºC all day, 9ºC tonight. But thankfully, no wind. I have as yet to dare go out and walk King 😒I am scared of doing so, while not 100% because, we know, relapses can be worse and take longer to recover from than the original deal. So... yeah 😑you, I am glad that you had a wonderful day 🥳🥳🤫🤸🏼‍♀️🤪😘 thank you so much for watching on a day like this! Your time is so very much appreciated!! Much much love to you, amiga! ❤️🌸

    Glad to know your plant is actually ok 🙂. The test kits aren't that cheap, so I've only bought them when I noticed something was really wrong just for the peace of mind. So far I've only found one virused plant. We've had a few people in our society deal with virus issues so it's something I keep in the back of my mind. We had a member receive virused plants from a nursery and they just handwaved it away, so sometimes nurseries don't care. I've heard that those large nurseries that breed the complex phals for large chain stores/grocery stores don't care too much about hygiene. It's definitely a your mileage may vary type of situation.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +3

      HI Gabrielle 😍💐so good to see you again! Considering that there would be a much higher demand for kits if they made them more affordable, I find it daylight robbery and taking advantage of people's 'fears' ... not going to support that. The rest of your comment is shocking! Virused plants... from a nursery... first of all, that is plural, which is scary and secondly... from a nursery that just brushed them off?? Wow! There really is no standard of quality control in this industry at all 😡 and, it looks to not improve, on the contrary, that is reverse dynamics! Wow! Really appreciate your comment, Gabrielle, it is an eye opener, an unfortunate one! Hope that you had yourself a great Sunday and thank you so much for watching 🌸

    👏👏👏👏👏👏 no virus 🦠 detected here. I do love the mutant blooms though. What a journey you and you neo have been on… and then they both bloomed with no fertilizer. Of course, there may have been some reserve early on but within 3-5 months it was probably gone. Either way… happy 😊 Sending happy vibes your way for continued health

I have to admire that this orchid is not run of the mill, performing as per what is expected, but, doing her own thing, confident in her imperfections 👍🏼 gotta love such independence and celebrate the uniqueness and character 😉 all the traits that I appreciate in human beings as well. Not going with the flow, and not performing as would be expected but still shining in their own perfect imperfect way 👍🏼👍🏼I am not firing on all cylinders yet, Stephen! I am not right to go walk King in these temperatures / conditions, so.... still a bit of a hill to go, but, definitely not feeling as awful as per a couple of days ago! HI Anna 🤩💐good to see you again! I hope that you are doing well!! I think that it is with anything that humans touch and start to breed more favorable traits into a species... including animals... push it too far and the animal is not as healthy anymore and comes with all sorts of problems that doesn't make for a great quality of life. In the plant world, I can see us wanted bigger, better brighter, more unusual color etc, and sometimes it goes well, and sometimes it can back fire. In this case... it back fired and this orchid would never be acceptable in a serious orchid grower's collection. For me? My little ugly duckling is here to stay for as long as she wants to. It is just unfortunate that I cannot give a piece away under these circumstances. Never mind, she is not taking up a lot of space 🥰thank you for watching, Anna!! Wishing you a beautiful Sunday 🌸

    Thank you, Nina, for this video! You can’t imagine how perfectly timed it was for me. I purchased from an orchid nursery a little over a year ago a Maikai ‘Mayumi’ and it has grown quite vigorously this past year with multiple growths on several leads. I should mention that I did not buy it in bloom but could see that it had bloomed previously (Maikai has been on my wishlist for a couple years now). It gave me two spikes which started opening mid December and I was “over the moon” with delight; however, the first spike of four blooms had one with no lip. Okay it happens! But then the second spike started opening with three blooms and two of them were deformed as well-one bloom again with no lip and one bloom with two lips! 😱 The blooms are beautiful; after watching your vid I can accept that it may have some abnormality but I will love it all the same. Thank you again-wishing you stay safe as well! ❤️

      HI Barbara! 🥰💐 thank you for your comment!! You know me and how I appreciate hearing about the timing of a video... thank you for letting me know 🤸🏼‍♀️🙏🏼sometimes, the imperfections are what makes our orchids special and charming. No one else has this orchid, the blooms are unique 😅 my little ugly duckling has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' about it,... some blooms look as though they are high fiving me 😅 what's not to love? 😍😅 the fragrance of the Maikai is something all of it's own right as well. And, maybe you will find another one that is perfect in every way, but it will not have that little bit of character that your current one has. I would love to have perfect blooms, and then I take a step back and think, she thinks she is perfect, who am I to judge 😃 besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right 👍🏼a bloom with 2 lips... I bet that looked pretty amazing, since the Maikai lip is very very striking! No one dare hate on my little ugly duckling 😎😉really appreciate you watching, and thank you for your comment! Have a wonderful day, Barbara! 🌸

    First blooming was definitely thrips that attacked the spikes. I hope the plant is well and florishes and the flowers get better. Though there is never a guarantee whether our plants are virus free. I do have virused plants and I have tested plants in a lab twice. Some that had obvious symptoms, did not have the CymMV or ORSV, and some that had absolutely no symptoms - tested positive. I tested a Bankok Sunset twice within 2 years period and it tested positive for CymMV both times. I have had this orchid since 2017 and to this day it has not shown any symptoms. So we have to understand that there is no guarantee we have virus free orchids, the only thing we can do is keep all plants separated, not mix water, keep them pest free and use only sterilized cutting tools. You will be surprised what is the persentage of infected seedlings that were infected during breeding.

      Hi there 🤩💐welcome! I have not seen you here before, so, first of all, a warm welcome and thank you so much for being here 🙏🏼I really appreciate it! The thrips thought it interesting, although... every blooming had thrips? I have to say that, even though it may be possible, I have to doubt that, because I have been watching this orchid (both pieces) very very closely for the past years until I finally filmed this video. This orchid has been under more visual scrutiny than any other in my collection. I had thrips on dendrobiums before, but they attacked the leaves, not the blooms or buds, so, I am not excluding thrips in the first blooming, but every year after that? Since I separated one piece away, they also did not live anywhere near each other for them to have thrips so far away from each other, and no other orchid in between or next to them had thrips. Still, I find your observation very interesting and want to thank you for taking the time to run it by me.... giving me another angle of approach! Absolutely, I agree, there are not guarantees about virus free orchids, or even fusarium free orchids that can live happily and thrive with these infections not making a difference to their growth and performance. I have subscribed to your channel and once again, really appreciate your comment, thank you for watching and... welcome!! Have a wonderful Saturday 🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids Hi, thank you for having me 🌺 Not sure if I would be of use, I speak in Bulgarian in my videos as I find our local orchid community does not have many videos in our mother tongue. But I recently started adding English subtitles, so maybe more people could watch them now 😁 As for the thrips, they predominantly attack the flowers and the new spikes. The flowers and buds of infested plants would have like tiny lines across them, the edges of the sepals and petals become papery and the spikes turn brown and dry out. Thrips seem to favour certain orchids over the other. I had a thrips outbreak this summer, I grow my orchids inside and they are very tight together. Nevertheless they thrips would attack my Asconopsis Irene Dobkin and leave untouched some blooming phalaenopsis which were right next to them. They also ate 7-8 cattleya spikes and buds. It was a real mess. 😕 Anyway, I only saw the typical thrips damage (small lines on the bud and spike and the browning of that spike) shown on the photos from your first blooming. As for the sepals and petal mutation (joining together), I have observed this in plants that had too much sea weed, just like you mentioned. Anyway, these are beautiful plants and they look very nice and healthy. Thank you for sharing them. 🌺

      Oh!! I used to go to Bulgaria for work back in 2007-2010 😃 I love all channels, even if I cannot understand what is being said. Orchids seem to have an international language 😉 IF you are interested and would like to join in on CareCollabs together with other channels that are already involved, please do not think that language is a barrier! Russian speaking channels have joined in.... no English subtitles, so... please feel free to email me, with a list of your orchid collection and it would be amazing to have you on board! 👍🏼ninjaorchids@gmail.com btw... I have a seedling Asconopsis Irene Dobkin, and she was attacked by thrips the first year she was with me. The symptoms were misdiagnosed by my garden centre, because I have never had thrips before, .... but, she has recovered and is still in the process of maturing. I am sorry to hear of your infestation... that really is sad and frustrating! Please consider joining the CareCollabs. Of course, I am not offended if you would rather not, but, the offer is there 🥰👍🏼

I have a CG Roebling that I did the same with, over several years of observation, and still it blooms deformed blooms. However, I am curious if any of the growths currently underway will bloom and I am VERY curious as to what they will look like this year. I need to see both leads blooming before I toss it. The orchid is growing fine, I actually left her outside all winter, did not suffer cold damage 🧐 but I am not tossing her until I see what the second lead does in the way of blooms. I can tell you that, I need the leca and the space 🤪 but those are not good enough reasons for me to bin an orchid that, apart from virus confirmation, otherwise looks fine. We shall see. 🌸🥷🏼 Dania San, ciao bella 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 virus kits really are far too expensive and yes, some staining and spotting can be really concerning. I have another orchid that came with spotting and it is getting worse and worse. If it wasn't a gift, I would have tossed it by now. I cut the 2 spikes off because I think it should rest... I think it is not healthy and I need to get rid of it. All summer I have been treating it, fertilizing with all nutrients to get rid of spotting, but it looks really bad now. The pseudobulbs are shrivelled for not reason because I can see roots that are hydrating. It is making me uncomfortable to have it around. I may toss it before the winter comes. A shame, but ce la vie. I tried and despite it being a common orchid, it was a gift. The orchid is cheaper than a virus kit, soooo not buying something so expensive. Let me have a look and see what your concerns are, 🌸🥷🏼 Dania San. I hope I can put your mind at rest 👍🏼 👍🏼thank you so much for watching this video, thank you so much for your incredible support! You know, it is almost like it has some strange form of peloria going on. Mutations in individual blooms on a plant are not uncommon (fused parts, missing parts, etc.) and can be caused by insect damage. But to have all of the blooms come out mutant, that is different. What fascinates me here is that you gave the plants nothing for an entire year and they still managed to bloom. I guess you can go back to feeding them and see what pops out next year. Now I'm not sure what those virus test kits cost over yonder, here they are 5 for $50. Not cheap, but not outlandish if you really need to know. In the interest of the channel, look into it and let me know. I'm open to funding a "let's see if I have a virus" project if it isn't too outrageous. I still don't think there is a virus here, but there is something in the interest of lab verification.
    I hope you're feeling a bit better. I'm extremely aggravated at the present moment. Why spend money on having someone install a new washer and dryer for you if they aren't going to do it right? I have to go to the hardware store tomorrow and buy the right stuff. And this is why I wanted a morning installation but that wasn't available.

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! I cannot tell you how happy I am to be closing the chapter on this orchid! She is my little ugly duckling and all these years, watching, observing, depriving and comparing set ups etc, its as if she has wormed her way into my heart 🥰 but, I got really sick of not giving her anything for a whole year... it was a huge risk, and honestly, if it wasn't for the channel, I would not have gone to that extreme! But I had to know, full detox, otherwise there are always those that say... well, if this if that! I know now, 100% that without any hormonal excess, this one is doing what it is doing and so be it! My little ugly duckling ❤️ I think the light has a lot to do with blooming. Giving them fertilizer just increases bloom count (in my opinion) 🤷🏼‍♀️ but you can see that the main plant in the basket is NOT as nice of a bloom as the piece that was separated.... so..... what if??? The spike on the little fan should be interesting 😅 she won't leave me alone... we are now locked in a dance of, what are you going to do next? and she replies 'Watch me!' (as if I have not been doing that since 2018😂) I really appreciate your offer to fund the virus test kits, but I am going to graciously decline, Michael! Not that I am not interested, to one day do some virus testing at some point, but not at this time. Please do not take this as a brush off, know that I am truly touched and appreciate your offer very much 🙏🏼 something in me just says 'I'm done here!' 😘 I am feeling better, seeing as I am sleeping as per usual again (less) I am on the mend. My voice... I will test that later and see if I cannot get something filmed. Otherwise, mañana, there will not be a video, which isn't a bad thing, but I am way behind, so... yeah! It is a gross day outside, I need to water my mounts and tolumnias, but, yikes, its is only 55F outside 😒 washer dryer woes? And someone got paid to do it? how on earth is that if possible? (said with voice dripping with sarcasm!) good grief! Sooo frustrating! Speaking of which, I have laundry to do, and well, that will dry in a week 😂 I hope that you have no headaches getting the parts and your are up and running. Is it a fancy set like Tropical Plant Party has? That is quite the set up he has there 🤪 have a wonderful day, Michael!! Thing is, the ideas are there, the editing usually takes me a longer time to do than the filming, so... I don't like to film edit and upload all on the same day. Other than that.... getting my ideas out of the deep crevices is a little harder than I thought... my brain is washed out as well 😂no wonder I would stop doing what I was doing to write them down 😂
