I’ve watched so many tutorials lately trying to understand how to do basic colour grading using vector scopes. I wish I’d come across your tutorial first, it would have saved me so much time, stress and head scratching. I’d just like to say a huge thank you!!!

Larry - I think you are an EXCELLENT teacher. Your pacing, level of detail, and explanations of the “hows” and “whys” result in the best instructional videos on FCP available.

Thank you for your very kind words. What I love about teaching is watching the folks I'm talking to understand something they didn't understand before. Watching "the light come on" makes me feel happy.

LJ for President! Thank you for this. I’ve been struggling with color correction with a live music video shoot and this will help immensely.

Thanks for the kind words. My feeling is that if I'm going to spend the time to create training, I want to make it both useful and understandable.

Thanx Larry! Great tutorial! Do you prefer using FCPX native color correction tools? Or would you use something like Color Finale pro 2?

      The Vitamin Effect:
Color Finale is a great tool. My coloring needs are fairly modest, so FCP works great. Color Finale is another tool in your arsenal to create the looks you need.

Hi Larry, thanks for this video tutorial. It would be great if you could do a tutorial on how you make these voice over tutorials with screen share, sequence of tasks that you perform to get these video tutorials ready?

Hi mr Larry I have one problem with my fcpx , when I drag my videos to timeline from browser be chang colour and not the same video in the browse my meaning video in the browse beautiful before i drag them to timeline thank you for any help if you don't mind.Hassan

      Hassan:
Let me restate the question to make sure I understand. You are saying:
"When I drag a video into Final Cut Pro's timeline from the FCP Browser, it changes color. Why?"
Hmm... It shouldn't. There are only two reasons why this would occur:
      1. You have defined a different color space for the timeline - using Project Settings - than the video in the Browser.
      2. FCP Preference files are corrupted. (To fix this, quit FCP, then press and hold Option + Cmd while clicking the FCP logo in the Dock.)
If the color space of both the video and the timeline match and trashing preferences doesn't fix it, you need to contact Apple support because there's something weird about your system.

It is 2023. This should be all automatic. Skin tones and gray point should be adjustable with one click. Otherwise, color balancing continues to be a mystery. Struggle continues ...

    • @LarryJordanFCP
      @LarryJordanFCP  Рік тому

      El Mono:
Well, kinda. Correcting a color cast is now a single click by clicking on something that should be gray, but isn't. But, setting the correct skin tone is harder because it is too dependent on lighting. This example assumes studio lighting where people look normal. Where things get complex is for software to differentiate between lighting for effect (neon lights in a club at night) and bad camera setup. That's where understanding scopes becomes very important.
