I believe almost everyone of us has had a magical Moment when they fell in love with Halo. I remember being maybe 6-7 years old and going to game stop to buy a new game with my dad because my brother only bothered to buy Minecraft and I was tired of it. I know wanting a game about ancient Spartans, I was very interested in that genre and watching the movie 300 sooo many times. I remember the guy working there looking through his Computer and looking for such games, and I remember looking to my left at a Huge wall of games, and the cover of Halo 3 smiled in my face. I instantly wanted THAT game, and I’m glad my father bought it for me. I remember playing the Campaign with my brother and struggling at the last mission, and how much fun we had. It is moments like these that cemented my love for this franchise, and I still have a deep love for Halo and Halo 3 specially. I liked Halo 5s Multiplayer, and i remember the moment I first started Infinite, I felt the same magic as all those years ago. I do truly believe 343 is slowly getting us justice of wanting the Halo feeling again, and even though you all could make excellent counter arguments, it’s hope that prevails when all else is lost. I Hope 343 (or better Microsoft) see the potential in Halo and give it more time to make it feel Halo again, and infinite is for me at least a great start.
Oh no, don’t get it wrong. It’s a good game, but it’s not the messiah. People just finally ran out of money after covid and decided to play other games instead of burning it on skins. Now they just burn their money on skins and other crap in other games like helldivers. It’s no different. They’ll probably get the flamethrowers back out in another few months buying the entire stores of the next cod, while saying they hated it despite spending thousands of dollars, and this will be for nothing. These companies are going to give you exactly what you want, and the truth is that people don’t always like looking in the mirror to see what they are. Eventually things had to collapse and it’s about time because the solution was always to do something else and play better games, but the damage is done and the people are pretentious liars who enjoy the smell of gasoline. I must admit, the fires smell pretty awful. Maybe next time you’ll have some restraint, but I doubt it. People are cowards who follow the narrative regardless of if it’s a good or bad idea. They just want to fit in, and that’s fine by me. Long as the people burn too.
@@3ofSpades eh at least helldivers doesnt run on things like "microtransactions" (not micro at all) or battle passes, and the game itself is designed agaisnt toxicity and is pretty good.
@@3ofSpades I highly doubt I'll get an even remotely intelligent reply to this, but here we go. 1.) Nobody said it was "the messiah," you're already getting uppity over an assumption. Sign number one that you're all talk and no real opinion. I'm going to guess that you're angry at Helldivers for being popular with no actual argument to back it up. 2.) Covid ended a while ago, this has nothing to do with that. Other games also cost money, a fact that I know might be difficult for somebody like you to understand, but in no way does anything you talked about or made up correlate to people running out of money. You also go immediately into saying they'll buy skins in other games.. Because they ran out of money to buy skins? Do you even know what you're talking about? It's already obvious you don't know the facts enough to form an actual opinion, but do you even understand the words you just wrote? I could end it here and you already look like an idiot, but let's keep going. 3.) Very few of the people that buy "the next CoD" say that they hate it. You're taking a vocal minority and assuming it's a majority because it makes the most noise. This is what uneducated people do, and coincidentally is also the main cause of CEOs thinking the direction gaming has gone is a good one, despite every release getting a lukewarm reception at best. Again, because the majority is not buying them. Just a vocal minority. There's almost 9 BILLION people on Earth. Only 10% of that 9 billion is 900,000,000 (nine-hundred million) which is just shy of a solid billion people. Do you have any, ANY idea how many people 1 billion really is? 4.) The companies ARE going to sell people what they want, yes, this is probably the only thing you said that wasn't pulled directly out of your ass and placed onto a golden pedestal. It's also only half right, the companies sell people what the companies THINK people want, and it's akin to saying the sky is blue and acting like you have some grand insight. See the vocal minority point if you need an explanation for why this is important. 5.) There's been a small but noticeable uptick in games being released that are actually pretty cool, this is very recent but enough to establish a trend. Things that remind me of where I thought gaming was going to go. This is a direct response to people doing something else and playing better games like you're suggesting. In many cases going back to older games, like this video right here. Notice the inundation of retrospectives on the classics, read the responses to them, and then re-read points 3 and 4. 6.) The "damage" you're talking about is far from done, you just have no imagination and can't imagine how much worse it could be. Which, again, is being avoided as we speak by nothing more than nostalgia from gamers and devs. Imagine where that could go when it's powered by more than just nostalgia. We only just started seeing this, so I'll admit I can't give you any guarantees. Your pretentious liars comment is also covered by my vocal minority point. It's also wrong for the sake of being more venomous, none of them are very pretentious. They're just kids doing whatever and not really thinking. You, on the other hand, are one of the most pretentious losers I've met in a while. 7.) A lot of people ARE cowards following the narrative, you aren't talking to any of them. You're here, talking to the only people that would normally agree with you if you weren't just lashing out like a wild animal. Because you yourself are a coward and can't handle a bunch of mean comments, which is literally the only backlash you would face. 8.) It's clearly not fine by you at all, but you don't have the balls to actually make a stance one way or another so you gotta end that pure vitriol with what I guess looks like a more casual comment to somebody who hasn't had a happy, or coherent, thought in decades. 9.) Nobody playing video games is going to "burn" whether the gaming scene changes or not. I haven't seen a shit take like this since the egde lords in highschool. That's about all the comment is worth. And that's about all I got for the quarter of a second worth of thought I gave this cum stain of a comment. I'm not gonna read anything you say, you already got everything you're worth. Think about it or don't, this baseless pessimism is its own punishment.
In all fairness, it was prior to Mickey meeting insurrectionists, so it wasn't Mickeys fault - if anything that mission was a big reason for him losing faith in the UNSC
Listen, I know that the gaming industry has taken a turn, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that gaming “used to be great.” There are still plenty of games with passion and soul poured into them. Helldivers II, Baulder’s Gate III, and Lethal Company are recent examples. Amnesia the Bunker and Tears of the Kingdom? The Resident Evil 4 and System Shock remakes could’ve been souless cash-grabs, instead they were amazing! What of Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok and Cult of the Lamb? Faith the Unholy Trilogy? I know that the state of modern gaming can seem grim at times, but there are still lots of AMAZING games out there and that are still being made. Keep your heads up, lads and ladies.
This is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the title. There is no shortage of great games that have love and passion behind them that prioritize the player over shareholders. All those games are of course being developed mostly by smaller studios and indie companies, but they are still there. The soul of the gaming industry hasn't left, it's just moved to a different place.
I'm not sure gaming was all that great back then. For every outstanding game like ODST there were a host of movie games, buggy messes that would never get a patch, soulless cash grabs, peripherals that cost as much as microtransactions, and pre-order exclusive dlc. Today games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Elden Ring stand out. Just like ODST and Mass Effect 2 did.
when the king of gaming fell, gaming as a whole fell with him. like honestly, there was millions of people waiting for halo releases, literally the most relevant game of the 2000's now forgotten. most kids never even played or heard of it, which is sad since it was the start of modern gaming
there are a lot of video essays about this and reach out there and just wanna say props for making one that definitely stands out. Congrats for coming out with solid quality.
I think the most under remembered part of this time is it was a great intersection of so many things Halo 2 was being taken offline, and these new maps that were attached to odst just dropped for halo 3 , so it wasn’t just one great game it was a almost like a great opportunity to play 3 of the great franchises in few months time span and not just remember and play but with renewed experiences ( halo 2 servers being g packed for a last horah, something new in h3 multiplayer , and an awesome silent world to explore) Just an awesome triple point for halo and gaming in general. I’ll never forgot in September of that year , playing the vidmaster challenge in h3 last level with me and 3 other grff ball randoms , it took us 4 hours and while they were people I never met or played with again , as a 32 year old man I can still remember screaming for joy and sadness thru the mic with them and the feeling at the end

Reflecting on the cherished video games of my childhood, particularly the recent closure of Halo's servers, evokes a sense of nostalgia and reminds me of the passage of time.
We all didn't think Bungie would sell out and then they did .. and yeah sure we have destiny but that game's not even where it should be.. like at all Bungie used to be the only company that I had high hopes for , and the second they sold Halo I knew the gaming industry as a whole was just... Well fucked to put it short . Halo will always remain my favorite game series, but to me the last two new Halo games to exist were the ensemble halo wars games , not even Halo 4 (I only play that for three reasons wich is forge, multiplayer, and dominion specifically) I don't play Halo 5 and I do not play infinite We all know who us "halo vets" really don't like even 343 industries games, Bungie literally centered every single game that they have ever made up until now directly around the player and made an attempt to immerse you and make you feel as much as possible for all the characters in the story , they went out of their way to study stuff like physics a little bit and psychology to add a bit more realism and relatability into the game, Hours upon hours of writing scripting designing scrapping it all and having to redo it If you ask me almost literally blood sweat and tears especially for halo 2 , but it always worked in the end because of how much Bungie actually cared , a lot of people don't know but they got kinda close to being broke making two of their halo games But in the end of the day they did it for US For the experience And for marking their names into history And in my opinion bungee did so in a legendary way . Thank you for reading this long comment if anybody did so good luck to you and may you find peace in your domains.
Theres going to be a great reset in many industries. We are seeing this trend elsewhere; In sport, In movies, In TV, In music... the list goes on, corporate greed is killing entertainment and people are waking up.
Goddamn beautiful video man! The last part really hit home when you mentioned halo inspiring your imagination and you always found it hard to focus in school cause all you wanted to do was play halo. That was me, thank you for letting me remember
Greed took the SOUL out of halo, like every game series that outstays it's golden age and holds on for dear life. It just loses more and more of the soul every new game until it's nothing but a shell and a cashgrab. I didn't agree at the time, but people were right when they said Halo should have died with Reach.
I don't think that's entirely fair, I mean we wouldn't have gotten halo wars 2. And it's not like 4 is a bad game. It's not up to the mark that bungie set but that doesn't make it worthless. And personally I think Infinite did a lot right and is a step in the right direction. To be fair I'm stubbornly optimistic about Halo but 343 has changed a lot over the last few years.
Something I noticed about collecting all the audio logs is that it'll slightly change the cutscene where Dare and Rookie meet vergil with Rookie blocking Dare and whistling the superintendent chime to lure the engineer out
"The only non-alien animal seen in any Halo game, ever". Im pretty sure the emus on Reach were brought there by some of the settlers as farm/zoo animals.
I was 15 when ODST released an I had found myself in hard times. I remember having the ODST soundtrack to play when I was alone walking the neighborhood late at night. That piano chime will always live with me
Thank god for Halo 3. Being born in 2000, I was a little kid during the financial crisis of 2008. Halo 3 was a great way to distract and help me from the scary mess that my family became during that time after being bankrupted and trapped under mountains of debt. It's probably one of the reasons this game is so emotional and sacred to our generation. It was there for me every day during the darkest times in my life.
Awesome vid man , so many good memories came to me again. Definitely forgot how much of a gem the original games were. We could do with more vids from this point of view. Can't wait to see what inspires you next.
My favorite "IWHBYD" skull moment is on the ONI Alpha-site level. If you manage to save the two security personnel in the lobby, when you get on the elevator, they'll chit-chat. One guy walked up to his buddy, and said, "This *might* be a bad time, but you still owe me for that sound system...." Paraphrasing, but still, funny as hell.
This is also the first time we got to see an Engineer in a Halo game. I remember reading about them in the novels and it was a real treat to finally see one get tied into the games.
Most people that disagree with the message of this video, just don't understand why Gaming isn't what it used to be and start citing off the Golden Gooses of Modern Gaming. *Muh Helldivers II* *Muh Baldur's Gate 3* Failing to understand that those are a few good games when most being released are still complete ass. Most games released during the times of Halo 3, ODST, & Reach were solid, to good, to absolute FIRE with only a few flops here and there. If we don't hold the Gaming Industry to higher standards of the past and just be complacent with a few good games we get, then the Gaming Industry will never truly recover.
Fantastic work. This truly was the golden era of gaming, and who knows if there will ever be anything like it. I’m just thankful we all got to experience if first hand 117 out
I'll always remember going to GameStop as a kid after playing Halo 1 and 2 with the plans of playing the next game. I saw Halo 3, but then was surprised to see a game called Halo 3: ODST. I was confused, so I asked the cashier guy which game to get cuz my dad said I could only get one. The guy told me to get ODST, and I've still never personally played 3. I'll forever be grateful for getting to experience ODST, and although it was OBJECTIVELY the wrong recommendation, I believe he did me a favor for getting me to play the more artistic and personal game 🗿 It's blasphemous, but I was never a multiplayer Halo player, so ODST very much was the better choice, I think. Call of Duty: Black Ops was my first multiplayer game if that says anything lol. ODDT is still one of my favorite games of all time, and it's all because a guy when I was a kid was either cookin, or didn't know what he was talking about lol
Met a lot of people back on the good ole Halo 3 custom games lobbies. Shit was so fun man, im still good buddies with a few of em to this day. Griff ball, infection, duck hunt, VIP, etc. All were so damn fun. Infinites custom games are starting to get pretty sweet too because of how in depth Forge is now. Crazy how this franchise was such a big part of our childhoods. Watching this video made me have Deja Vu.
I still think about when I had first played Halo for the first time. Getting a taste of it with the Halo CE trial, playing it over and over again; then properly with Reach. Playing through the entire campaign for the first time and getting to experience a game that to this day I still consider to be one of my favourites. There will never be any game series like the Halo Pentalogy.

Beautiful video, brother. I think the sad part is knowing we may never go back to epic experiences like exiting the pod on halo for the first time or landing that sticky from across the map ever again. Halo lost its soul when bungie left.
It seems like lately Halo has returned to being a cultural touchstone for many gamers of multiple generations. It's so hard to quantify why, but you did a pretty damn good job in this video. Halo was a milestone not just in shooter design but in game design. Halo is important. Halo matters. Its story is simple but also mythic, epic but also, importantly, human. It's a story of triumph, hope, and the power of the human spirit. It's the kind of story we should still be telling, even if it's not true, because it's one we need to believe in. Who can truthfully say the same about The Last of Us or whatever "story-driven" games are being peddled these days?
Fast forward to now and we have a spiritual successor to ODST in Helldivers 2. I joined the ranks last night, and while it does mean i'm now a Helldiver, I still consider myself to be that Rookie, wandering the streets of New Mombasa... As the old saying goes... #WeAreODST. We have been ODST... We ARE ODST... We will ALWAYS be ODST. Feet first into Hell. This Is The Way.

Says halo could’ve gone the way of the Star Wars sequels but it kinda did. Halo 4 came out to mixed results but ppl were hopeful for the future. Halo 5 committed character assassination. And in halo 6 they pulled antagonists from previous works to be the villain (palpatine & the banished) they pretty copied each other’s homework

Helldivers 2 seems to have the soul these games had before
One final hoorah
Another person blatantly ignoring Arrowhead's specific request to not compare the two franchises.
I listened to this soundtrack walking home from work last night.
Rip Rookie. Still hate that Mickey got him killed in a damn book!!
dude i knooooooooow!
In all fairness, it was prior to Mickey meeting insurrectionists, so it wasn't Mickeys fault - if anything that mission was a big reason for him losing faith in the UNSC
Damn made me cry at the end. Thank you. Damn good video, damn good times, damn good 15 years
Listen, I know that the gaming industry has taken a turn, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that gaming “used to be great.” There are still plenty of games with passion and soul poured into them.
This video made me feel painful nostalgia, thank you for making it.
Loving the positive mindset you opened the video with. World needs more positive mindsets out there. Gonna watch the rest now.
when the king of gaming fell, gaming as a whole fell with him.
like honestly, there was millions of people waiting for halo releases, literally the most relevant game of the 2000's now forgotten. most kids never even played or heard of it, which is sad since it was the start of modern gaming
there are a lot of video essays about this and reach out there and just wanna say props for making one that definitely stands out. Congrats for coming out with solid quality.
I think the most under remembered part of this time is it was a great intersection of so many things
Halo 2 was being taken offline, and these new maps that were attached to odst just dropped for halo 3 , so it wasn’t just one great game it was a almost like a great opportunity to play 3 of the great franchises in few months time span and not just remember and play but with renewed experiences ( halo 2 servers being g packed for a last horah, something new in h3 multiplayer , and an awesome silent world to explore)
Just an awesome triple point for halo and gaming in general.
Community. Halo just had it. The events were fun, it's like everybody was together on the account of playing more halo.
@@krischurch3763100% this. 10 yo me and my friend could play with a lobby of people, across the world and ages 10-30, and everyone was chill in custom games, and never a dull moment.
Reflecting on the cherished video games of my childhood, particularly the recent closure of Halo's servers, evokes a sense of nostalgia and reminds me of the passage of time.
hilariously enough I felt stronger as an ODST than a spartan, being able to tank a beam rifle shot on legendary hits different
We all didn't think Bungie would sell out and then they did .. and yeah sure we have destiny but that game's not even where it should be.. like at all
Bungie used to be the only company that I had high hopes for , and the second they sold Halo I knew the gaming industry as a whole was just... Well fucked to put it short .
Halo will always remain my favorite game series, but to me the last two new Halo games to exist were the ensemble halo wars games , not even Halo 4 (I only play that for three reasons wich is forge, multiplayer, and dominion specifically)
I don't play Halo 5 and I do not play infinite
We all know who us "halo vets" really don't like even 343 industries games,
Bungie literally centered every single game that they have ever made up until now directly around the player and made an attempt to immerse you and make you feel as much as possible for all the characters in the story , they went out of their way to study stuff like physics a little bit and psychology to add a bit more realism and relatability into the game,
Hours upon hours of writing scripting designing scrapping it all and having to redo it
If you ask me almost literally blood sweat and tears especially for halo 2 , but it always worked in the end because of how much Bungie actually cared , a lot of people don't know but they got kinda close to being broke making two of their halo games
But in the end of the day they did it for US
For the experience
And for marking their names into history
And in my opinion bungee did so in a legendary way .
Thank you for reading this long comment if anybody did so good luck to you and may you find peace in your domains.
This was a tear-jerker. You've earned a sub!
Something I noticed about collecting all the audio logs is that it'll slightly change the cutscene where Dare and Rookie meet vergil with Rookie blocking Dare and whistling the superintendent chime to lure the engineer out
4:59 thank you SO much for recognizing the quality character writing of reach. it isn't discussed enough somehow
Modern gaming sullied by greed, laziness and oversaturation. ODST in modern times would just not be the same.
"The only non-alien animal seen in any Halo game, ever". Im pretty sure the emus on Reach were brought there by some of the settlers as farm/zoo animals.
Yeah and doesn't halo 3 have the rats?
Moas!!!
I was 15 when ODST released an I had found myself in hard times. I remember having the ODST soundtrack to play when I was alone walking the neighborhood late at night. That piano chime will always live with me
GAMING 2024 looks like it's getting back on track... for now
No it doesnt lmao
@@melaninfarmer yes it does goofball. Gaming hasnt been bad in a while. We have had tons of great releases within the past couple of years
@@Dimebag-wx2rsI know. Elden Ring, Zelda, Atomic Heart, Helldivers 2, etc.
What a chill video and good editing for such a modest YT channel. Thanks bro
I keep finding myself finding hidden gems like this and he definitely deserves every views
My favorite "IWHBYD" skull moment is on the ONI Alpha-site level.
If you manage to save the two security personnel in the lobby, when you get on the elevator, they'll chit-chat.
One guy walked up to his buddy, and said, "This *might* be a bad time, but you still owe me for that sound system...."
Paraphrasing, but still, funny as hell.
Fantastic video man. I hope the algorithm picks this up cause it deserves to be seen.
I’m just thankful we all got to experience if first hand
117 out
This is a fantastic and genuine video man... great work
When playing video games I usually feel nothing, I just play them and get on with my day. But ODST made me feel helpless, lonely and lost.
Bro this was awesome hope you make more vids like this
Great video. No one has ever convinced me to give ODST another play through like you have. Great ending montage that brings a tear to my eye
I'll forever be grateful for getting to experience ODST, and although it was OBJECTIVELY the wrong recommendation, I believe he did me a favor for getting me to play the more artistic and personal game 🗿
It's blasphemous, but I was never a multiplayer Halo player, so ODST very much was the better choice, I think. Call of Duty: Black Ops was my first multiplayer game if that says anything lol.
ODDT is still one of my favorite games of all time, and it's all because a guy when I was a kid was either cookin, or didn't know what he was talking about lol
“you haven’t killed any of them have you” LMAO

Flame's Rage burns hot with unmatched vigor
But once burnt out, it leaves all cold....... hollow
16:40 “Marty, Marty he left the marines!”
"While playing as master chief, you feel invincible.... You're so unkillable the enemy calls you demon... you kill anything you want because you can."
Me playing on legendary: 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
DUDE! I have this exact joke in my script but decided to leave it out. 😅
😂😶
Bro gave me the chills less than 2:30 seconds into the video
Honestly, almost cried.
Awesome video. You have great potential. Keep it up, bro!
Thanks, will do!
Beautiful video, brother. I think the sad part is knowing we may never go back to epic experiences like exiting the pod on halo for the first time or landing that sticky from across the map ever again. Halo lost its soul when bungie left.
I'm french i have no idea how i got there but love your work m8 ! continue ! +1 like
Merci beaucoup! Will do!
This is awesome,and inspiring, subscribed
Loved this video, watched it twice. Reminded me of that release night.
I got it on christmas with my xbox 360, best feeling ever.
“Never Forget”
1-reach is Christopher Nolan, 4- infinite is Michael Bay
You missed the scene with the mp, in the data hive. If you stay with him and keep him alive you'll find out what he's hiding and turn on you
Great Video dude, nice to know there’s another true Halo Fan that has such attention to detail.
Aye to that. Those in helldivers seem to want reinforcements from us ODST veterans. Bet some of them don't realize the first wave is already here.
I like to picture tHe last stand of Jonas the butcher, ambushing Jackals and grunts in his shop before brutes finally get him... lost heroes, people, never forget them ;7
Man, i was just a dumb kid who liked Stealth missions when ODST came out, now i need to replay it eventually
Yes algorithm more like this. Well said all throughout, great work
Correction. Romeo got stabbed by the stand on the rifle he used to shield himself from said hammer strike.
14:10 And THIS is why "it's classified" can often mean "it's VERY RELEVANT."
Great video man I really liked it
I see you too are a cultured individual
Says halo could’ve gone the way of the Star Wars sequels but it kinda did. Halo 4 came out to mixed results but ppl were hopeful for the future. Halo 5 committed character assassination. And in halo 6 they pulled antagonists from previous works to be the villain (palpatine & the banished) they pretty copied each other’s homework
Honestly, ODST and Reach were my favorite two Halo games.
I really do wonder if kids these days have anything that touches them the way games like Halo, Fable, and Elder Scrolls did us.
God, I hope they do.
Great video, continue your work
"I didnt like 4, I struggled through five, and I tolerated INFINITE"....I think i found the right channel:)....I'm also extremely high playing baldurs gate watching this on second monitor, cheers!

Me to brother, 3 odst was my 1st and favorite halo, and it will be until my dieing day
Years ago, me and my sister scraped up enough money to buy an Xbox 360, played Halo CE and Halo 3 and ofc all the other great 360 games, never played ODST, too scary at the time. I played odst on the master chief collection and glad I did, glad I’m older now and the mix of music and tone hit harder and I’m able to enjoy it more. So, this game means a lot and I’m glad to have experienced a blind play through
Great work, love the video
Got this game and mw2 for christmas, i still play odst every so often on mcc one of the best halo games
I wouldn't fight anyone claiming any of the Bungie-produced Halo games as the best of the series. They are all so, so good. Each in their own way.
Excellent video brother!
