- So what is a brand strategist, exactly? What do they do? What does brand strategy consist of? Lots of creatives are starting to sell strategy as a means to make more money. However, without actually changing the level of value you’re adding to your clients you shouldn’t really change the title on your business card. A strategists job is to provide clarity. Brand strategy is not just a means to make more money - it’s a completely different level of service that allows you to do the work your clients deserve.

I like your perspective on brand strategy. I have an affinity to this role and your insight allows me to deeply consider my approach to working on projects to build my portfolio.
I'm 19 yrs old and I always get ridiculed for strategy by some designers longer in the game, but listening to you actually confirms that I'm not wrong about it, thank you for the video, it's really reassuring that my knowledge on strategy is indeed on the right path not want some, "established designers", in my area thought they were doing.

Strategy is the nucleus of this work. Every component of it. Full stop. Gven the opportunity to discover the needs vs the wants by providing insight and opportunities outside of their asks, a client develops new perspective. Unquestionably, the wins are infinite for doing this. Even flters down into the quality of the work you provide and then some.

Butler Branding Agency Have you read “The Hero and the Outlaw”?
Strategists talk about return clients , I feel that hard to believe because if u do brand strategy for a company and it works, it will be hard for them to come back because you have given them all the tools. My question is how do you get return clients?
Ugh! why does brand and branding have to be such a complex, multifaceted and abstract thing! Its so hard to articulate to those outside of branding, marketing and design.
I suppose it is like most things. It is very complex if you dig deep, but it can also be articulated very simply. For us who consider ourselves brand strategists, we should dig a little deeper. That way we can articulate it in simple ways to our clients

Good Stuff man, question: Should you charge Brand Strategy as a service charge by itself or put the price unseen inside the services that I will provide for the client and this way charge more?
We do both - sell strategy by itself as a service (some clients only hire us for strategy), but if we are hired to do an actual deliverable (I.e. design a website) we include strategy in the total cost because we will not design without strategy.
@@ButlerBranding Sounds great. In the case of including it in the total cost, does the client see the Strategy service in the invoice?
@@whateverman2734 yes they see that it’s included as a deliverable but there isn’t a price next to it (as if they could remove it to reduce the price)

Hey man, love your brand, why did you choose yellow and black?
🙏 thank you. Thinking through our rebrand in 2015/2016 was about a 4 month process. There were a few color combos that could have worked, but we ultimately landed on yellow and black because I liked it more in all the applications we designed. It’s youthful, energetic, and bold. But again, other color combos could have worked. It’s just what we preferred for us.

@@njessidivine4774 this is where learning to strategize design is helpful. The job of the designer is to learn everything they can about the client, and think of creative ways of solving those problems.
I can’t give you specifics for this client, as we would have to conduct a discovery session and develop a strategy. Some basic pointers would include:
1) make sure whatever you design feels appropriate for the industry and audience (it needs to feel it belongs and makes sense)
2) make sure it’s distinct enough to where it can persist in the mind of those who see it (usually scrap your first few concepts, because they will likely be already done)
