I feel like we need to do Kayla Main Characters instead of authors next time, I feel like you would have a better chance of connecting with the character than the author
Kayla putting that sticker over the "get a beach body" title absolutely made my day. I'm so so glad that other young women will get to see an adult influencer blatantly calling out that bullshit.
Most of the books written by Taras are early 2010’s YA, erotica, or non-fiction… none of which I’m remotely interested in. But then I found The War Widow by Tara Moss, whose protagnist’s last name is Walker… so I kind of have to read that one, don’t I?
This made me really curious so I looked up authors with my name. I can't find a single book. Does this mean I have to become an author? Is that how this works?
Umm as a fellow Kayla, I love this! I’ve also never met a Kayla in person that I like. 😂 I feel like Kayla’s get a bad rep, but you’re a great representative for all of us!
i feel like i win the name challenge. in 5th grade we had a scholastic book fair and i walked in one day and someone came running up to me asking if i could sign their book. 10 year old me had no idea what was happening, so i take the book and i look and the author, and there was my name--Rachel Ward. it was a very strange experience and everyone thought i was an author for a good amount of 5th grade.
Oh wow I recognize that author name! I read a trilogy by Rachel War, the Numbers trilogy! It was fun as a teen, I don't think I'd enjoy it again as an adult XD
My Korean friend told me they give babies necklaces with their names on it, and when she found I didn’t have one, she gave me a baby name necklace hahaha. That’s my only Heather item.
My name was so popular in America and I hated it, then when I was ten we moved to Sweden and I have yet to this day to meet another Ashley. Everyone loves my name and says how lovely and unique it is 😂😊 I went from one extreme to another haha.
As someone with the same name I completely agree!! I know about 6 other Ashley’s with the same middle name as well. I don’t like the name either. Maybe I just need to move lol
it’s interesting that when you think of Kayla you think of pink! i have synesthesia where each letter has a color i associate with it and K, A, and Y are all yellow & L is green. so those are the colors i associate with you lol!
That's so interesting! What color is associated with the letters in your name? Also curious to know what color you associate with R, haha because my name is Kyra.
I'm trans and when I changed my name I really wanted all the stuff with my name on it 😂 I still have with two mugs with my first initial and a bookmark with my name but as more time has passed I'm less obsessed with my own name
I'm a Kayla too so I love this! Most people who know me well do shorten it to Kay, so I would hope that you and I would get along! My dad is embarrassed to admit it, but I was named Kayla because it was the name of a character on Days of Our Lives and he liked the name. I'm not the first one I've met who was also named after her. Maybe that's where the popularity in the 90s stemmed from!
Why’d you pick Liam as Liam’s name? Now I’m curious bc you asked your mom about Kayla 😅 also I don’t have anything with my name anymore but I do have a lot of J initial things in my room
Lol :”I’m sorry, I’m having my destiny read to me.” How dare you interrupt. All jokes aside , she is actually really damn good. Went to watch her video. She is pretty accurate.

“The Animators” has been sitting on my shelves for years now! Bought it a a flea market for very cheap but it was a total cover buy and I’ve never heard anyone talking about it before. So excited to finally learn more about it 😊
Finally someone who understands the desire to have a visually beautiful name. I have the hardest time making the D in Dallas anything but dorky looking.
You have always reminded me of my childhood best friend, who is still my best friend. I find it so weird and I have told her and my mother that you remind me of her and when I'm missing her I replay your old vlogs and you are just an amazing person in general... But I literally gasped when you said Naomi, because 🤣🤣 thats her name and I'm so shook-ith right now. I've freaked my own mother out 🤣🤣❤❤ Love you, Kayla. Lala 😄
Omg, I also never met a namesake that I liked - I feel like all the Victorias I met were the complete opposites of me and our relations burned and crashed pretty quick.
I was supposed to be named Kayla, but my mom missed the 'A' and signed my birth certificate 'Kyla' 😅.. Everyone still calls me Kayla, even to this day (although, I don't much like the name either haha)!
Yes I read a book by an author who has the same name as me :) My name is Emily, I was named after Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite books and I even share the same enitials as Emily Brontë (EJB)😍
I've never been attached to my name, but I am glad Victoria Schwab is! She's everything my name should be in a literary sense as she really does keep winning. This is such a cool idea and it makes me want to go to my bookshelves!
DID anybody else’s parents order a personal story book with their name as the main character since your name was impossible to spell? There was a company a million years ago that would let you pick from a number of themed stories and then you could add your name as the MC? I got a fantasy story and a dinosaur story that both had my name (correct spelling) in them. I believe they even had little personality things in the story too? I know there’s a company that still does that for kids teens and adults now too.
@@cj8310 really? I didn’t know they even did that sort of thing. My mom said she and her sister got named cabbage patch kids. I think their parents did that cuz they had such popular girls names at that time. They’re Brenda and Beverly and so I think those would’ve been popular patch kids names maybe. Impossible to do that now with so many different names and spellings.
So I don't know if you've heard of that Rainbow Magic children's book series, where basically each book was titled "[name] the [blank] fairy", so that little girls could pick out their own name etc. When I was 8 I received one of those books as a gift for my birthday (in the Italian translated version), and naturally it was the one where the fairy shared my name. And I was so excited because the name Ilaria, which is my name and also the name that was chosen for the Italian translation of the book, is kind of rare and there isn't much Ilaria representation in general lol so I was so excited that I finally found something where one of the characters had my name.
I was so excited when I learned your name was Kayla because I've encountered so few of us! I'm also trying to be an author 😅😅 hopefully my name doesn't bode poorly for me lol
I feel you on the K when writing your name! I've always felt the same. One of my closest friends is a Kayla and she's such a cool person. Actually she just got a job as a professor at UBC so she is moving from Ontario to your province pretty soon!
I'm obsessed with your vlogs. They always have clever concepts and are so funny. A quick search of my name "Meagan" shows a lot of romance novels which I'm not excited about but there is a YA contemporary which I'm genuinely interested in by a Meagan. Never thought I'd find one with such a specific spelling!
I am very name conceited. Getting the "omg your name is so pretty!" is the highlight of my life lol. If I could have items with my name all over it, I sooo would 😅 (Just did the destiny number, mine is 9, which is also my favorite number
I feel like everyone goes through the “I dislike my name” thing. I’m a Megan (Maeghan) but with a weird spelling for heritage reasons and my sister is the same (Kaelee). We have the worst time with spelling and that’s why I really dislike my name. I have also never met another Megan I have gotten on with but I feel like the name “Megan” much like “Jessica” has some negative connotations. The problem with taking a popular name is the huge amount of unique spellings and you will then never find anything with your correct spelling to buy. I have looked.
Ohh, the name Kayla always immediately makes me think of one of my favourite songs ever which is Lust for Life by Girls! The last line sung in it is ‘C’mon c’mon c’mon Kayla’ ! It is a very happy summery upbeat song, great song great band 🧡
As a Kristina, I love the initial K. It is my favorite letter, and not just out of egoism, but because it is such a versatile letter and also one of the rarest letters for words to start with. It stands for so many things (thousand, black, etc - there is a whole chapter on the letter K in a book called "Design Rants and Raves" - K means a whole slew of things). It is also so beautiful to letter, you can make so many swooshes and styles for it (I'm a lettering artist, and there are few letters as fun as K is to draw, imo). Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
There's something so funny to me about the transition from being in a toys r us with the craft kits straight to the deadpan "got a nerf gun. show them"
Hi from one Kayla to another! When you said that you don’t feel like a Kayla I have never agreed more! I always feel like that! I was also almost named Jessica (my mom still regrets picking kayla 🤣🤣). I just got back from a wedding this past weekend where there were four Kaylas. We had the “Kayla” table. Love your videos! ❤️
My name, Kaitlyn, spelled all sorts of different ways, is a popular name, but it wasn’t until recently that I found an author with the same name as me. I got so excited, I bought the book.
I think The Sandcastle Empire needs to be high on your TBR. It has so many things you love in books: survival, island, science-fiction, a friend group. It’s great and so it this video! P.S. Your “y” adjective should be youthful!
the YA dystopian era was FILLED with Lauren's! Lauren Oliver and the Delirium trilogy and Lauren DeStefano with the Wither Trilogy to name a few. Now I can only think of Christina Lauren but I know for a fact there's more out there. (I went to high school with 3 Lauren's IN MY GRADE.. there were 68 of us). Really popular in the nineties for whatever reason lmao
Always love your vlogs. Hope you will find some better books in future videos 🙂 An author I really enjoyed is Robin Hobb, loved the farseer trilogy. Don't know if there are anymore Robin authors I have read or liked
This was awesome and has sent me down a rabbit hole of looking for authors with my name. I remember reading Little Women when I was younger and was so excited that one of the characters had my name, Amy. Now off to read authors with the first name Amy.... Also, there's a kids graphic novel series by the author Kayla Miller. Click, Act, Camp and another one that's not out yet. They are pretty good!
Ik this isn’t the point of the video, but my favourite Peter Pan retelling is Dust by Kara Swanson. I feel like you might enjoy it. The covers for book one and two are STUNNING
I totally agree with you on Darling, also gave it 3 stars & don’t think I’ll think about it again, at least not the same way the wicker king stayed with me. The only character that I absolutely loved was Fyodor, what a precious angel & my fave ace rep to read. 🥰
I relate so hard to not getting along with people who have the same name as you. If it means anything, every Kayla I've ever met has been one of my favorite people.
I’ve never picked up a book with the author’s name being the same as my own but I have picked up books with my name in the title. Reading Ivy Aberdeens Letter To The World was one of the best decisions in my life and I picked it purely because my name was in it. Though Ivy isn’t actually my name, just what I go by 🤭 this video is so much fun. I love your creative videos 😊
As someone who's name is also Kayla, I have never read anything by someone with my name, as I rarely ever see authors in bookstores who share it. When I was younger, I used to have a few things with my name on it, for instance: a small piece of wood that I finger painted my name onto with a friend, a jelly necklace, a keychain, and even a pen. I don't know, I've always liked my name and thought it suited me lolol.
It took me a while but I finally embraced my name of Kaitlyn. Hello, can you tell I was born in the 80s!? lol I have tons of stuff with my name on it because anytime anyone finds it spelled correctly, they get excited and pick it up for me. I have only one book by an author with the same spelling. Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge which actually sounds like an amazing book.
I tried to find authors named Emmy and the first one that actually popped up was Emmy Eugene who apparently is the author of the "Chestnut Ranch Cowboy Billionaire Romance” series of novels". Sooo... Maybe not?
I'm SO glad you said "I have never met another Kayla I get along with" I'm also a Kayla and I've only met 2 other Kaylas that I have gotten along with! I also hated my name growing up then one time I just sat there saying it over and over until it started sounding a little like a fantasy name, and that's when I started liking it.
Kayla is a nice name, but I've never thought to read a book by one. I think I'll love the retelling but it has to wait till I get around to reading Peter Pan. This looks like loads of fun.
editors' note: I was in fact, not born in 1996 unfortunately. I just threw in a screenshot from the year Kayla was at its peak popularity to illustrate how it was thriving during the decade in which I was born.
I was confused for a minute. I was born in 96 and I was like “wait how old am I?” Because I didn’t doubt you, I doubt my age 😂
Haha thank you for the clarification cuz I was very confused

you should do a video where liam’s reads choose what u read. like you connect them to your tbr, maybe through colors, buzzwords whatever

Oh my god me too I can instantly taste that
I showed my friend your videos and she goes “she looks like if she were a guy her name would be Liam” 😂
😆😆 She does
My name is Kayla, and if I were a boy my parents would have named me Liam. The two names seem to go together 😂
Sequel video idea: Reading books with main characters named Kayla
I think the letter K is beautiful!!! Also I could see you as a Naomi. Then your channel name could be BooksandMimi haha or BooksandNaNa 😂❤️

I totally agree with you on Darling, also gave it 3 stars & don’t think I’ll think about it again, at least not the same way the wicker king stayed with me. The only character that I absolutely loved was Fyodor, what a precious angel & my fave ace rep to read. 🥰
When I was born - statistics say that only two girls were named Laura. Me one of them. But in recent years it became a lot more popular.
22:23 that sound you make when thinking about (good) food
As someone who's name is also Kayla, I have never read anything by someone with my name, as I rarely ever see authors in bookstores who share it. When I was younger, I used to have a few things with my name on it, for instance: a small piece of wood that I finger painted my name onto with a friend, a jelly necklace, a keychain, and even a pen. I don't know, I've always liked my name and thought it suited me lolol.
Fellow Kaylah here and I love our name 😆 My mom named me after a Days of Our Lives character from the 80s lololol
The music reactions at the end lmfao 🤣
