- Are you wondering how to start an embroidery business-and how to grow its revenue into the high six figures? The Foundry Print Shop founder Forrest Wedmore did just that, and today he’s going to tell us how.
The Foundry started as a simple screen printing operation using rented space and equipment. From these humble beginnings, they’ve expanded into a 4,000 square foot space (that they’re already outgrowing!) with their own array of modern equipment.
Today, they’re on track to double their revenue, which is already in the high six figures, bringing in an average revenue of more than $100,000/Month.
In part 2 of our interview with Forrest, we’ll dig deeper into the roots of his embroidery business’ impressive growth.
He’ll share his top advice for anyone who wants to get into screen printing, as well as his most successful marketing approaches. We’ll talk numbers, too, finding out what a “good day” means for The Foundry and how many items they make to reach those sales figures.
Starting an embroidery business can be both challenging and rewarding. In our talk with Forrest, we’ll find out what skills from his time in retail have been the most helpful in running his own business.
His tips cover everything from hiring and keeping a strong staff to getting the word of mouth referrals that have been so crucial in growing The Foundry’s revenue.
Creative entrepreneurs can learn a lot from Forrest’s story. We hope hearing it has inspired anyone wondering if they should take the leap and start their own business!

What’s the most helpful advice you heard from Forrest? We’d love to hear from you in the comments!
Love the advice of not biting off more than you can chew. So many folks in these creative types of businesses want to try everything and end up spending a lot of money will little return. Focus, Focus, Focus and be great at a few items with great potential and profits
Forrest is on point with all his advice. I am a designer and have been trying to get to his point for years. He’s right that a lot of artist and designers try to start this business not really understanding the business aspect of this. At least for me this is true. It’s a lot of blood sweat and tears not to mention money. But if this is something you are passionate about just go for it! Thanks Forrest and upflip for this episode. It made me feel more inspired to keep on going!
He threw down some solid advice and business tips!

A+ guy. Great info, great advice, loved the video
Thanks for watching! We appreciate you.
I started my own embroidery business (Happy Hermit Embroidery) about 3 1/2 years ago. Though it is my only job right now, I am also a college student so I haven't really tried to get serious work going yet. I have a paper coming up that is in regards to an entrepreneur in my industry. I wish I would have seen this video previously. I would have asked to interview him. He gives some really good advice.
Could you still write your paper about him and based off his answers in our interview? :)
@@UpFlip I cannot. I had to give my professor the information for who I was going to interview prior to my interview which I did 2 weeks ago. But some of the questions I asked were also answered in this video.
@@UpFlip I do wish there was more about the embroidery side in this video though. Most of it was about the screen printing which I don't do.
Excellent video thanking you for sharing

As someone who works in embroidery it sucks 😂
This didn’t explain much of embroidery 😔
lol was just thinking that
Please accept our apology, we should have been more specific and asked more questions about embroidery specifically, but we promise we'll do better next time and will improve!
From my research it’s basically just having the funds for the machines and the plain clothing to stitch the designs into the clothes. Then obviously finding customers
The thumbnail didnt match ...
Thumbnail ... embroidery
Video... embroidery only in b-roll... with lots of talk about print shop ...
Better title would have been ... $3500 a day print shop
You're right, we've failed with this one, but we'll do better next time, thats a promise!
