So here is the backstory. Mike Shinoda, founder (and resident rapper) of the band wrote this song for a member of Linkin Park's sound team dying from cancer, and this would end up being the title track for their (at the time) most recent album "One More Light". Chester Bennington, who battled depression and suicidal thoughts his entire life, was the lead vocalist of Linkin Park. When Chris Cornell, his best friend and lead vocalist of Soundgarden, committed suicide, Chester sung this song in dedication to him while on tour for One More Light. Not too long after, Chester committed suicide himself. So in essence, it has become a tribute to 3 people. The voice you hear singing the song is indeed Chester. The music video was made as a tribute to him and released post mortem, as the final Linkin Park music video featuring the voice of Chester until the band later released unreleased songs and demos from the past. The logo you see at the end was the logo they introduced in 2017, featuring the typical Linkin Park lettering within a hexagon, with each side representing a member of the band. But they removed the upper left side for this video, representing the fact that Chester was gone.
Okay so backstory: this song was written for a friend of the band who died of cancer, in the middle of writing chester bennington (lead singer)’s good friend committed suicide. Then the next year chester committed suicide on that friend’s birthday (chris cornel, another musician)
This sums it up well. Was written about a friend of the band, but Chester, the singer of this song, died from suicide shortly after this song came out.
They weren't in the middle of writing when Chris Cornell passed, he died the day before Linkin Park released the album One More Light. And Chester just 2 months and 2 days after Chris, not a year after.
Almost 100% accurate but there's some misinfo: Chris passed away the day before the One More Light album released, and Chester died just months after him.
As a Gen X dude, I would recommend you listen to their music. They helped my generation through our hard times. Maybe their words can guide the next generation.
Please don't feel bad for not knowing anything about them, that's absolutely okay! Linkin Park is a band that's really emotionally importat to a lot of people. They have always made lyrics that many people could really relate to, and lead singer Chester Bennington had an incredibly emotionally authentic and expressive voice. For many people, listening to Linkin Park really felt like you had someone with you who understood you. Chester passed after this song was made, but the band dedicated the music video to him. He's the one you see singing there, and who is featured heavily in all the video they used to make this. Linkin Park have made both heavier and softer music, in many different genres or mixes of genres; this is among their softest snd more pop songs. If you want to try something on the other end of the spectrum, I'd suggest something like "Given Up" or "Faint". If you want to see them live, there is a great performance of "Given Up" at Clarkston 2007, and of "Faint" at Rock am Ring 2007. If you would like to hear something still quite soft, but different from this, I'd suggest one of my personal favourites, which is "Waiting For The End". And of course, you should see if you don't recognise their megahits"In The End" and "Numb". Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song, hope to see you react to more Linkin Park ❤
In that last scene, when he blows a kiss to the audience, that was his goodbye to his fans.😢 There's a video that shows that full performance of this song. I said goodbye to them for the longest time before singing while Mike kept playing the intro over and over on the piano. He was the only one who knew that was his last performance. He was the only one that cared.
knowing theres people out there that have never once heard the breathtaking music that is linkin park really makes me sad. i think every person on earth should hear them at least once.
It honestly kinda makes me happy to be honest. When Chester died, it really spoiled their music for me for a few years. It’s just broke my heart to listen to it. So the fact there’s people that didn’t grow up worshiping those guys and is now able to appreciate it for the first time it’s just kind of comforting. It also speaks to the genius that was Chester Bennington. It takes talent to write a song to touch millions of people but it takes a genius to do that over and over again. and then for those songs to continue to reach people even after he died. It’s just mind blowing that a man who was so adored by millions worldwide could feel so alone.
Chester was a 1 in a million artist and human, the impact he had on the world and music is impossible to place in a paragraph. I highly recommend looking into the bands history and story and hear the songs that brought up a entire generation
Please react to the song "So Far Away" by Avenged Sevenfold, This song was written in honor of the drummer of Avenged Sevenfold (The Rev) who passed away in 2009
This is not meant to be offensive by any means, but for fans of linkin park this song hits on a totally different level knowing the backstory of this song. RIP Chester you will forever be missed!
I only discovered this song after Chester's passing, and it crushes me every time. That line "in the kitchen, one more chair than you need" - I can picture that scenario, and I can't imagine what that would feel like.
“This is really deep” man, what an introduction to LP. I’m not sure if you made the connection but Chester was the man singing. Rip Chester, you saved millions but millions couldn’t save you.
This song was written for people in grief but it was originally tributed too Chris Cornell and there’s vids of Chester saying it but it’s a song for anyone dealing with loss and grief it’s a beautiful song
please do more linkin park. Cant even put into words how big and iconic Chester was since u somehow never heard of them lol my mom still cries listening to certain songs since he killed himself, I literally grew up on Linkin Park..such good times man
Interesting to see someone react to this song as their Intro to LP. I am a longtime fan of the band and can't listen to this song any more without welling up. I'm glad you enjoyed it
When I had stage 4 cancer, I would often wonder if anyone would even remember me or care if I was to pass away? I want to thank my wife, family, and friends for sticking by my side I’m a cancer survivor now, I’ve been in remission for 2 years now
It is so hard to stay alive day after day, just because you know that it will make other people miserable if you disappear. For some of us, it is a daily struggle, and it can go on for years and years until the day it finally becomes too much to deal with, and then, it's just time to end it and feel the relief of letting go of all that misery and pressure to be what other people need you to be.
I'm a mess everytime I listen to this f'ckin song 😭 R.I.P Chester Mi Amigo, although you've been replaced 🤬 you'll never be replaced! But I suppose Shinoda couldn't just let the band die with you. Forever in our hearts and minds, you pulled me through so much ❤
its not the fact Chester died, it's the reality he's been putting it into songs for over 10 years, had a wife, 3 children, and yet he was always hurt :WW
Ok now the sad ending is out the way, these are the other songs of theirs that you need to react to: -One Step Closer -Papercut -Crawling -In The End (Ideally you should react to the whole of their first album Hybrid Theory as it’s the highest selling album of the 21st century) -Somewhere I Belong -Faint -Breaking The Habit -From The Inside -Faint -Given Up -Leave Out All Of The Rest -What I’ve Done -No More Sorrow -New Divide -Waiting For The End -Iridescent -The Catalyst -Lost In The Echo -Burn It Down -Castle Of Glass -Guilty All The Same -Until It’s Gone -Rebellion -Talking To Myself -Heavy (another song that Chester details his depression) Released After Chester’s Death: -She Couldn’t -Lost -Friendly Fire They also have a new singer now, Emily Armstrong and they have two new songs out with her with a new album coming very soon: -The Emptiness Machine -Heavy Is The Crown 🔥🤘🏻
I stumbled upon this song when my daughter listened to it on repeat after my eldest son (21 years old) ended his life three years ago. The line about the empty chair in the kitchen is particularly painful in its simplicity of an everyday perception.
react to "In The End", the song that put them on the map if you want to know what the original Linkin Park sound is. stuff that came later especially after their "Minutes to Midnight" album tend to have a softer tone.
Linkin Park was a big deal to us millenials. I'm 33 and in 2001 when hybrid theory album dropped it changed the world. Literally. That and the meteora album. It's basically Chester's goodbye.

Chester was the lead singer for LP. Sad story behind this song. His best friend Chris Cornell committed suicide in May of the same year and he did in July of that year as well.
A Linkin Park members' tribute to Chester (R.I.P.) - "Lost" (beautiful live /shortened/ version). I recommend as the best introduction for You to Linkin Park music: "What I have done" (both versions - official (Chester's) and live (Emily's) are beautiful.
A lot of Linkin Park songs (despite the initial message, meaning etc) is even heavier (within this aspect) now, moreso after Chester's passing. :/ Been a fan of theirs since middle school, in my 30's now and Chester saved millions, myself included, but sadly we couldn't save him, i only hope he found his light, he deserved it and so much more One More Light always gets me teary eyed, even after all these years

Was Chester a part of this band? I've never heard anything more disrespectful in my life. Definitely not the right song to choose as your first. I hope you do a little research into who he was. The world is a lesser place without him.
To me Linkin Park died when Chester took his own life. Im sure the new singer is a good singer but she´s not Chester and how Mike Shinoda kind screwd over Chester´s son is just wrong. Of course i listen to the old Linkin Park still.
So here is the backstory. Mike Shinoda, founder (and resident rapper) of the band wrote this song for a member of Linkin Park's sound team dying from cancer, and this would end up being the title track for their (at the time) most recent album "One More Light". RIP Chester. He was an icon of my younger years.
Chester killed himself on the anniversary of Cornells death
Wow, thanks for the backstory.😢
Song takes on new meaning after Chester, the lead singer, took his own life shortly after. Breaking the Habit and Numb are good intros to the band.
The world was crushed on Chester’s death.
Not having listened to linkin park before is wild 🫨
Crazy to see it
Only if you don't grasp the fact that your experience doesn't represent everyone elses
awh. If you only knew Chester you'd feel a lot more.

This is very sad. Man, it is not fair to have a feeling of anger to Chester (R.I.P).

hi is die...
