When the Trio toured Australia in 1983 they had Steve Morse opening the show with an acoustic solo set, and for the encore Morse joined McLaughlin, Di Meola and Paco for a blistering guitar quartet that figuratively took the roof off Sydney Town Hall. That concert stands as one of the most memorable musical experiences of my life.

They really seemed to connect and enjoy creating music together. Unbelievable performance! Pretty special.

I recommend a live performance of the Spanish singer Diana Navarro "CUPLERIAS GALA DE LOS PREMIOS CERES" is a performance that impresses and moves the way she sings and gesticulates and those incredible melismas that she has and with such a personal voice. She is a very versatile singer. Best regards

I saw Paco de Lucia at Massey Hall in Toronto years ago with top class flamenco dancers. Mind blowing. I agree that seeing these 3 artists together is breathtaking.

Saw these guys in 79 in T.O. and was blown away esp watching Paco doing the running spider crawl up and down the neck with both fingers! Basically had to literally pick our jaws up off the floor on the way out!!

Caught this trio in the early 80’s in NYC. Maybe 82,83?? Fucking fantastic, incredible 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Saw 'em in Toronto, same time, Steve Morse opened, won the night, solo and tout ensemble to close the evening
McLaughlin was unearthly when I saw him with Santana, '74 or '75

A lot of the rhythm ideas here are based on the Konnakol, system from India ❤️🙏🇮🇳

AKA: Passion, Grace, + Fire. This wonderful Trio Played an acoustical tour for many years. Caught the act a couple of times @ Skullers Jazz Club, Boston. I must ad a big PS:
PS: As wonderful as the music is, after 40 minutes you are done with it. So done... you really do need a whole band to keep you interested.
I had to go back a second time to remember that. Then... I went and saw Al D alone unplugged acoustical tour last winter. After 30 minutes... it was great, but I was done...! Then I remembered again...

This was my pick in the poll and so glad it made it through. How you guys felt was how I did when I first heard it. It's not just the playing, which is otherworldly, it's how they interact with each other, such mutual respect. 3 great guitarists, each with their own distinct style coming together and creating such beauty.
Friday night in San Francisco is the live album you should listen to with these 3.
I think this was from a bigger concert, Pavarotti and friends.
Al wrote this track, but the all play each others songs on "San Francisco"
Love how John is just casually smiling all the way through like it's nothing, lol.
Great reaction, the only downside was mentioning the Eagles in the same sentence as these 3 greats....😆

@@shoutinchuck3363 Paco's background and playing style is totally different to that of Al's and John's but together they are seemless and great. Glad you enjoyed it Chuck 🙂

I seen Al play in 77. Everybody threw roses on stage at the end. He buried his guitar in the roses, and left the stage ! That's what I'm talking about !

Actually only the beginning of the track is "Mediterranean Sundance". They quickly blend it with "Río ancho", a Paco de Lucía classic track. They do the same thing in the Friday Night in San Francisco album, of which this is the first cut. Only difference being, John does not play in this track in the album; t's a duo between Paco & Al.

Good pick, Paul! Makes me feel totally inconsequential as a guitarist every time I hear these guys play, lol. As Dan alludes to, there is no studio trickery on a live performance like this, so what you see is what you get. These guys never cease to amaze me.

    • @paulfenwick8767

Thanks Chaz. What gets me is the apparent ease they do this remarkable music. Great guitar is more than just practice/learning. I think there's something within certain people that separates them the norm.

Los tres son genios, pero que Paco toque sin púa y con los dedos es otro nivel. Además sin amplificadores de sonido.

You have to read Paco de Lucia's wikipedia page to understand who he really was.
More than a guitarist, a legend, one of the great masters of Flamenco guitar.
For example, the year of his death, all flamenco shows in Spain began with a minute of silence...A Madrid metro station is named after him...
I have immense respect for John and Al who I have seen several times, but I think they will not be as engraved in the history of music as Paco will be.
