I recently took my 34L GR2 on a 4 day weekend trip and fell in love with that size. Was able to bring the Kaidan bullet to fit the extra stuff my wife wanted to take that wouldn’t fit in her sparkle duffel bag. 🤣
Great review! Please do the Kaidan 34 soon:) I returned mine after being disappointed about some of the shortcomings, but still a fantastic and light bag!
Great video. They have almost the same dimensions except that the 40L is 1.5 inches taller. I guess that extra volume doesn't translate into extra real-world capacity. Interestingly enough, when you calculate the volume using the listed dimensions, the 34L comes in at 37.79L while the 40 comes in at 40.56L. So it sounds like GoRuck is using nominal volumes in their model names. @@JBOutside1
haha, yeah that was my conclusion too. My latest video breaks down all the math for the smaller bags. I am doing the bigger bags once I get my 40L back. @@civil6262
Cool video, as always. Care to do a “walk around” vid of your collection? At one point I had a healthy collection myself but I’m down to only three, GR1-26, GR2-26, GR2-34. But I’m always looking🤔. Cheers!
Interesting. There's a brooks review that seems to confirm that the gr2 40 doesn't really add too much volume. He indicated it was due to the way the gr2 is wider at the bottom than the top so those 2 inches aren't really usable. Does that make sense from your perspective?
Thanks for the video! Very helpful. Was the 40L shooter made of 1000D cordura? I have a 40L 1000D GR2 and I suspect I could pack more in it if it was made of a more 'expandable' material like maybe 500D or XPAC instead of 1000D.
My version is 1000D. They do make a 500D slick version. That’s maybe possible. I have some 500D bags and they don’t appear to have any more stretch. Try a GR3?
Wouldn’t a GR3 work best for an extended trip. It’s much easier to pack with fewer zippers and less fabric to save weight. I’m really enjoying your videos, thanks.
Absolutely! I love the GR3 for longer trips for sure as I'm a dump-and-fill kind of packer and the wide open spaces are awesome. The GR2 gets too complicated for longer trips. I've bought and sold two GR2 40Ls in my past because I thought they wouldn't work and now prefer the GR3. This 40L may stick around a little longer due to it's uniqueness and role as a go-bag (video coming soon).
I still feel like I'm not getting the most out of the other pockets on a GR2 from a packing standpoint. We use them as our 72 Hr packs, but in looking how you packed it, it might make more sense to just use packing cubes. Do you have a link for the ones you are using in this video?
These were just some "Amazon Basics" I found. They don't make them anymore but any simple packing cube will work. My current favorite is the Peak Design packing cubes.
Hi, I'm on the fence between the GR2 26L vs 34L. I'll be using it for when my family of 4 goes out for the day, carrying water bottles, snacks, etc. What's your recommendation? Thank you
I learned the hard way when packing my 40L, as much as I didn’t want to admit it, it’s only good for about 3, maybe 4 days max! I added a 50L Savotta Keikka duffel for a week long trip. I did have to check the duffel but it was small enough to where it came out first.
I really dont like the second compartments on these bags. But the one compartment is 45L lol.... Wishing they made a 34L-38L one compartment bag, so it would pack out more things in one bucket style but be dimension size of like 34L bag. Would be epic.

Haha, sparkle duffle bag...yeah I'm kind of amazed at the utility of the 34L size. It surprised me.

Will do!
Wow 34l and 40l got the same capacity can fit almost exactly the same thing! That a big discovery
Haha, yeah it was surprising. But maybe it was the cubes?

Sir!!! Awesome video can you pack out gr2 34l and osprey farpoint 40! See how different they are it will be so interesting thank you sir
I'll add this to the list, I don't currently have the Farpoint on hand. Thanks for the comment!

That's helpful to know. After watching your video, I am kinda leaning towards getting a 34L GR2... 😅
@@iftekharuddin After my result in this video I highly recommend the 34L for just about anything. Love that size on my back and for packing
Thanks JB!

@@JBOutside1 The old “bought and sold” the same bag, which I have done many, many times. All part of the fun for me.

It seemed like the packed out Kaiden didn’t want to stand up. Still not convinced on that bottom handle vs side handles.
Ah, I really didn't notice. I do like the bottom handle and the bag still stand when loaded. Thanks for watching!
Super helpful, thanks dude!
Haha, I just filled a 5-day version. Coming soon!

great video. be good to compare gr2 (either 34 or 40L) vs gr3

26L is my guess as an extended daypack
There is a huge difference in carry comfort between a 100% stuffed pack and a 90% full pack. Try them on to see.
Haha, yes. True
