Would had been very difficult for Raymond and Barbara to become lovers during the original taping of Perry Mason, even if she wasn't married with children of her own. But for some reason, I suspect that they were more than friends. It would be very difficult for a man and a woman to be just friends on the same level as Raymond and Barbara without some sexual tension between them. Barbara wouldn't have it any other way. If there was no sexual tension between her and Raymond, she would not have signed on for the Perry Mason movies beyond the first one.
Raymond was gay and I a committed relationship Barbara was married. They were terrific actors who had a deep loving friendship and respect for each other. Raymond was his partner were close to Barbara and her family. 🎉@jermainelaxuma2621
This wonderful series is "comfort food" for me! The whole cast is perfect, but especially Paul with his sassy "hello, beautiful!" and the obvious love Perry & Della had for one another! oh how I love this show!
@Willie Gordon The actor playing Paul Drake was initially cast as Mason Perry, but he was gracious enough to accept Drake's role instead. Maybe it was more than just on the screen.
These photos make my heart beat with sheer joy for the two SUPER people they obviously were--not just on the screen but in real life also. This only proves you CAN deeply love someone but that other person just isn't THE one you chose to live the rest of your live with and possibly have a family with. I cannot think of any other couple on TV or in movies who work so well together. The Perry Mason series' cast Llworked together and complemented each other's acting skill. No episode would be complete without Paul Drake and Lt Tragg. The four of them were a terrific quartet for years. Thank goodness for all the recordings and the internet. Too many programs and movies today are so low class with so much bare skin, vulgar scripts, fighting, and killing. No wonder the idea of loving one another and treating others as you would like to be treated are almost a thing of the past. How many families do you know that actually sit down together at a table to share meals or watch TV together or go to a movie together or GO TO CHURCH TOGETHER? Our lives need more positivity and positive people. Put down all electronic items one night a week and play cards, board games or sports and get to truly know your family and friends better. Watch some good decent programs of the past to raise your spirits. Enough of my diatribe. Many, many thanks to all the ' behind the scenes' personnel who have worked hard to bring us such decent and enjoyable entertainment!
Tomorrow, May 21, Raymond Burr would have been 100 years old. Very few actors who would be that age have their work shown all over the world for all these many years. There is still great interest in Perry Mason. He was truly one of the greatest actors who ever lived. He had such class. I would so loved to have known him and Barbara Hale.
Ahh.....the greatest romance that never quite happened. I was a young girl when this debuted and it quickly became my favorite show. I loved the mystery of "who done it" the masterful portrayal of Perry Mason by Raymond Burr and the ever present "something" between Della and Perry that had me always wishing there would be a romance but ....... They kept us on the edge. Maybe that was part of the magic. Still my favorite series that I will watch whenever it's on. They just don't make them like that anymore.
I'm sure even low they were not lovers that they were people who loved each other and she is one of the most beautiful actresses of the 50s on television both of them are missed greatly
❤ the way they look at each other. I don't care I know they love each other. I know they had other partners but I don't care You can't you can't fake that The way they look at each other oh my God it's just so beautiful. I love both of them I miss both of them and thank you for making this video
The beauty of the Perry/Della relationship is that it didn't need definition. He loved and was devoted to he,r and she to him. A romantic involvement would have spoiled it! What the two of them (characters) shared was pure admiration, loyalty and love.
A romantic relationship between Raymond and Barbara(even if Barbara Hall were not married with children) would had been very difficult during the filming of the original Perry Mason series. I feel that if Raymond had not died, the next Perry Mason TV movie might had featured Perry and Della finally getting married. In the original Perry Mason show, I felt that Perry and Della were already a married couple; both on and off camera.
ITA Rebecca. He had such a high regard for her and she for him. Love and respect between two nice people. It didn’t hurt that they were both good looking too! And that Paul Drake! Just one of those perfect shows that come along and will never be forgotten.
There was chemistry in the shows of Perry Mason and in real life were very close. Know he played a lot of pranks on Barbara. Sad that period of entertainment is gone and the real life we lived. Was great.
So beautiful and made me cry. You can tell the love they had for each other, it’s in their eyes. You can’t fake that dynamic all those years. They were such a class act and will be forever missed.
What a wonderful pairing. And add that beautiful William Hopper and it is perfection. There is nothing now that bears watching, let alone come close to this. I loved these dear souls. May they rest in peace.
Wow. I’ve been so into the show for a while now. I like to think how wholesome and sweet things seemed back then as I wasn’t born til ‘67 but long for those days. Men were men and women women. I love how they wore suits and had a certain class. Paul’s another one. He’s cool as they come. I love the whole cast and think about them often. What a sad sweet video. Thank you!
walshy I grew up during that time and what you see on Perry Mason was a direct reflection of society during that time. For the most part dad worked and mom took care of the family. People dressed up to go out in public and respected each other. We didn't have a lot back then, but I would trade everything I have now to see our country that way again. I still watch the reruns of one of the best examples of quality television ever.
appropriate song for all these different scenes of the perry mason series... my mom loves this show...she grew up watching this series and in later years the perry mason made for tv movies...she says thanks for the wonderful memories...good job////
This magical and eternally relevant topic, Perry and Della, gratifyingly triggers some of the best of the calmer youtube videos, and even lots if grown-up comments, but tagadamaya is tops, including the song choice.
Their relationship was platonic But so close as to almost romantic It was the rite balance and friendship You knew they really did love each other Burr and hale had the perfect chemistry
I once had a deep friendship but platonic relationship with a woman. She wanted more, i didn't (my aim was already set on another woman which did not come to be), it turned into a drama for her and was painful for me. The friendship had to be ended for both our sanity. Young men, learn from that. Women are not naturally wired to be true friends with men, they need romantic love. No, that is not a misogynist view. If you've not been there you don't know. There are very few cases where a woman can be true friend with a man and accept to leave it at that. Usually it always involves some form of imperative restraint like one or both are already happily married making the platonic friendship possible. But true intersex friendship without any circumstantial restrain in place is impossible, the woman will always take the initiative to make it romantic. Mason and Dale's had that circumstantial restrain imposed by the necessity to keep a professional and hierarchical relation in the office. Maybe because they both excelled in the job. Think what you may but you cannot sleep with your secretary and expect the romance not to change how you work. To all young men thinking you can be true friend with a woman, it is more like a restrained love, and it's playing with fire unless of course there is mutual love then no problem with making it romantic.
This is awesome! Two shows I have an emotional attachment to are The Dick Van Dyke Show and Perry Mason. Maybe this is because both featured such wonderful casts. I truly cherish these characters and the people who played them.
There was an episode where Perry had a cold and Della tended to him. Very touching. Always something between these two-the way she looks at him. He was always a gentleman to her. A romance waiting to happen.
Barbara could say more with her eyes than many actresses could with pages of dialogue. She and Raymond could suggest a romantic relationship without a word being spoken just by the way they looked at each other.
I do think that was very real. Not many actors will want to admit that ( no matter their “ preference.” ) that they are attracted to their co star. Great chemistry is rare!
Awesome and touching video...they were a superb team and I miss them greatly! I have all the series episodes and TV Movies, and I'm currently going through them from first episode to last TV movie. Finding this on UA-cam was a nice treat and an excellent sentiment to both these actor's legacy of Perry Mason and Della Street!

An excellent compilation. Barbara has said in interviews that Ray was "very much a constant considerate gentleman and I care for him dearly". And that does shine through. They were life long friends from the beginning of working together.Their own personalities complimented their character roles beautifully. Thanks heaps for upload!
Touching Video in many ways. I was a big Perry Mason fan. He was a hard working guy and super busy all the time... Barbara Hale too was a consummate professional. Sad that we get old.
I love this soooo much! Yes, they did love each other didnt they? Wish that the characters got married, but at last they stayed together! Thank you for your time putting this together for big fans like me! Miss Raymond Burr so much every day!
This is perfect what's the big deal with sexuality? Raymond and Barb were close friends and she was even at his funeral. Raymond rules because he was always respectful
Yeah, but the directors always made sure to let us see a little less than we knew what was coming. But the characters and personalities really did turn them into lifelong friends. I heard from somebody might have been gay, presumably Raymond. But I don't particularly care because the two of them gave me so many hours of pleasure and I can't ask for anything else.
Un meraviglioso omaggio a due indimenticabili attori che hanno reso leggendaria una delle serie televisive più belle che siano mai state realizzate!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A wonderful tribute to two unforgettable actors who made legendary one of the most beautiful television series ever made...thank-you for posting that beautiful Italian sentiment..!!
There was a scene in the episode "the case of the weary watchdog" that best exemplifies Perry's untold love for Della although he masks it as compassion for a friend. Perry and Della are at a Chinese restaurant and Della asks Perry how far would he go for a friend and bluntly asks for $25,000. Perry immediately writes the check, gives it to her and says something like, without questions and without thanks. Della is speechless.
i watch Perry Mason on ME TV. In the 60's my mother sent us to bed when it came on. And if we dared to make a sound while it was on....BAM The STRAP. Actually we'd load up on blankets and scream bloody murder.
One of the best television pairs in history. If someone had written a series ending finale, it could have been Perry marrying Della, although it would have gone against type and, I suppose, conventional wisdom. How many successful men marry their secretaries? Very few.
Erle Stanley Gardener had banned any romance between Perry and Della, but it has been suggested by Barbara Hale among others that this was because he was a married man having an illicit affair with his secretary and any relationship between P&D might be regarded as autobiographical and
In the Perry Mason movie "The Case of the Velvet Claws" (1935)Perry & Della get married at the end. On the tv show there's an episode called "The Case of the Substitute Face", S1 ep #32. Perry & Della are on the deck of a cruise ship and he motions for her to look at the stars with him. That's the closest I saw of them being like a couple. Picture #15 in the video here is from that episode.
In the original novels Della & Perry were a real couple, he asked her to marry him and she said no. Perry was a rougher version in the books than the television shows. He had no problem telling people where to go in the novels.
Raymond Burr looks like my 1st husband so much, it’s uncanny, even the same height, hairstyle & physique. He died 12 yrs ago from diabetes in March, he was only 62 - RIP Jess - RIP Raymond Burr
@comcreature --Most "screen teams" are not teams in real life. They usually are married to or having relationships with someone else other than their screen partner. However, Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale were best of friends and truly loved each other in real life. They may not have been in love, but their was definite chemistry between them--on and off the screen. As for Burr being homosexual...more likely bi-sexual. He seemed to like both sexes...but I don't think that's the point here.
I always suspect that Raymond and Barbara were more than friends. I find that it's very difficult to have a long term friendship between a man and a woman on the level of Raymond and Barbara without some sexual tension between them. For argument sake, let's agree that Raymond was Barbara's second Husband because I feel that on and off camera, they acted as an old married couple who knows what the other is going to say. If Barbara and Raymond did have an romantic affair, she did a very good job with keeping it PRIVATE away from the public.
Della once asked why it took some men so long to propose and Perry replied “Della you’ve been my legal secretary long enough to know that’s a leading question.”. 3:54
Don’t know if this is urban legend, but my mom says that Raymond Burr, even tho he was gay, loved Barbara Hale and actually told her husband. I’m guessing the husband was not too worried as I imagine Barbara “knew” if not spoken that Raymond was gay.
We will never a better show then Perry Mason & Della Street never again
They were never lovers, but they loved each other deeply. Friends forever. How special is that?
Would had been very difficult for Raymond and Barbara to become lovers during the original taping of Perry Mason, even if she wasn't married with children of her own. A beautiful tribute to a time that will never be seen again.
So so very true
Truer words were never spoken💕
Yes and Amen to that
(From a big fan of original Perry Mason TV series) - I sometimes wish for those times again. (2020 especially was too dark and challenging.)
Incredible chemistry together !
You could feel it , see it , sparks flying ..
Charisma both sides ....🙋♂️😃❤

Love that show
I like Lt. Tragg. I love how he just appears out of nowhere. lol

Raymond Burr was great as Perry Mason the best court room drama of all times

What a Lovely Tribute to two truly beautiful human beings .. RIP Raymond and Barbara
Loved them both ...still watching reruns never tire of it!Those days will never come again!
Each time time their eyes met, they twinkled. Every. Single. Time.
You know time is fleeting when these great moments were reality and have now turned into memories.
I was just a little girl when the series was on and I watched it every Sat night with my parents, and I wanted Perry to marry Della so bad!!!!! ♥
I love any thing about Raymond burr and Barbara hale they are two of my special people

Beautiful tribute to a beautiful friendship bolstered by a beautiful song. Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale (Perry and Della) were marvelous together.
There was a certain chemistry between these two actors. Nothing overt but you knew their characters had a love and respect for each other.

tv at its best, great actors great writers
I continue to remain mesmerized by Barbara Hale, aka Della. What a grand lady! I miss you! Semper Fi!
When men & women were dignified toward each other. Miss those days

I feel exactly the same way... those are two of my most favorite TV shows from the past... from the glory days of TV...
I just watched a wonderful eppy of the DVD show about Joe the priest written solely by Carl Reiner. Great shows from the 50s and 60s.
There was an episode where Perry had a cold and Della tended to him. Very touching. Always something between these two-the way she looks at him. He was always a gentleman to her. A romance waiting to happen.
Paul Barnes. i agree. she always gave him the googly eyes. kept them both going... audiences too.
Paula Wagner She was a GOOD actress, googly eyes are part of acting!
Their relationship was ideal. Mutual respect and admiration. Not tainted or encumbered with the needs of the flesh or petty jealousies.
@James Regan Well said!
Great tv without being half naked, rolling in the bed, ECT. T.V. programs were respectable in that time era.
You forgot the bad language too !
Love your video's of Perry an Della. They were beautiful together, the best of friends and wonderful souls.
Beautifully done thank you for posting this video
Loved them both on TV! Great series and wonderful books!
My favorite show of all time.watch it twice a day.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!!!
absolutely touching. The music and the pictures. Thank you to whoever did this.
I sure loved him
Watching a rerun right now. Loved this program.
I care about Raymond Burr, his life and his WIFE and SON, which he loved very much, and as for the other rumors, I DEFINTITLY DO NOT CARE!!!
I LOVE PERRY MASON, NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS OR "THINKS THEY KNOW".
I read somewhere that there was no wife and son. It was a ruse to cover up his homosexuality. Never the less perry mason is classic tv
So beautiful and timeless
Touched my heart! Thank you!!!!
The always dignified Della Street.
Such a sweet vid with some lovely pics and a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing! xo
I absolutely love this! A new song to me. Great job with the photos and music! Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you !

Thanks heaps for upload!
Loved them both,,
Thank you! Just what I needed to pick up a very stressful day.
Touching Video in many ways. I was a big Perry Mason fan. He was a hard working guy and super busy all the time... Barbara Hale too was a consummate professional. Sad that we get old.

There was great respect, love and admiration.. He viewed her as a partner.. humpf Della had her own secretary Gurtie.

Leigh Leigh David I believe she was, too.
Best two ever, would have been perfect together, except for a couple obstacles.
In the original novels Della & Perry were a real couple, he asked her to marry him and she said no. Perry was a rougher version in the books than the television shows. He had no problem telling people where to go in the novels.
