The worst thing to happen in pop music in 2020 was stan culture became powerful enough to get #1 hits. Pop music was mostly cool at best and eye-roll worthy at worst.
Overall, I'd say that pop music this year was better than last year but it was also more infuriating with the takeover of the hot 100 by stans who are essentially Trump supporters in terms of idolization and pouting, and less interesting because most hits this year didn't feel as influential or weird. Sure, there was WAP, BTS and Pop Smoke having chart success, the return of pop punk, and Taylor Swift making indie folk, but none of that felt out of left field like Old Town Road or Billie Eilish.
Drake has got to be wondering whether he’s in some sort of Twilight Zone hell at this point. I mean, he literally can’t fail financially no matter what he does at this point. He can literally shit out any piece of malformed garbage and people will buy it just because it’s him. Ten years ago when his success felt like it could have evaporated at any moment, the success must have meant something to him. Now he just sounds deeply, profoundly bored with his own career.

Every time Drake drops a new project I have to wonder, like… is he happy? Does he want to be doing this? Would he be in a better place doing something else? It’s like every other song he goes on about how he can’t trust anyone and his relationships keep falling apart and everything sucks but at least he’s balling and like… surely he’s got enough money now that he can do, like, something else? Something that doesn’t clearly make him feel like shit all the time? I genuinely wonder why Drake stays in the game, not just because of his diminishing quality but for the sake of his own mental health. ROXANNE has honestly grown on me a lot over the months, say what you will about the content but at least it has a melody that sticks to you head, and I’d honestly take that over dreary slogs like Falling and Party Girl.

I remember the first time I heard Party Girl. I was listening to music on Spotify and got an ad, and it was advertising and playing that song. It made me laugh so hard, way more than music that isn’t a parody or unintentionally bad ever should. My first thought was “wow, this is absolutely hilarious, I actually want to replay this ad”, and my second thought was, “how the fuck did a label sign this in confidence, and how does StaySolidRocky sleep at night knowing he released this monstrosity?”

Something is wrong with me because I like the production and melodies to every song everybody hates like "Sunday Best","Intentions", "Toosie Slide", "Falling", "Nobody Love", and "Ice Cream" by Blackpink. And to make matters worse I don't like the production on songs everybody likes such as "Blinding Lights", "Don't Start Now", "The Box", and "Watermelon Sugar"! I find them too boring and four-chordy. One thing about Sunday Best that I don't think anyone noticed is that the verse flow is a 100% complete ripoff of the flow from Drowning by A Boogie wit da Hoodie. It's got the same stress, cadence, number of syllables, I thing even the same BPM.
Awesome list. It was surprising to see “Yummy” as only on the Dishonorable Mentions and I was not expecting “Hot Girl Bummer” to be that low on the list. I was also surprised to see “Intentions” that high up. I honestly don't really understand how you couldn't like Sunday Best, I think its a great sounding positive song but on the other hand, i'm also the person that just fucking hates everything about Wap mainly the fact that the beat is completely ass and no one ever talks about it.
A core reason, compared more reprehensible songs, this topped this list is a sense of cultural damage this song can produce moving forward, Whereas this has been noted on retrospective worst lists he has done, this is a case where cultural damage, or a sense of it, is on a current list/year. Despite a positive vibe you can pickup from this, there quite a bit of b.s. to this song you can also pickup on, even if you like it, that is passing itself as uplifting, which is where this song turns sour on people.
Guess I'm the only one who doesn't hate "If the World was Ending." I find the wispy voices matched the apprehensive tone, and I interpret it as more about wanting to think they still have some mutual concern for each other than about trying to get back together.

I am glad to hear the Sam Hunt song on here. I might like country music but god every time I hear this song... a part of me is wondering the following: why did this keep getting played on the radio? I disagree with your #1 - I do find Sunday Best to be a nice, happy, joyful song designed to make your day a little brighter, and whilst it may sound a little bland and forgettable at times, I'd forgive it for at least trying. Also If the World is Ending is more of a meh song than a song that is trash to me; it doesn't have any qualities that make it stand out in any way which is good, but it is also the same for any of the qualities that would make it bad in my opinion. But hey, at least both those songs are better than Yummy (the song that started the chaotic and dysfunctional year that is 2020), right???

My personal list, using the same criterion of "first appeared on the 2020 year-end": 10) One of Them Girls - Lee Brice I absolutely hate putting an artist I genuinely really like on this list, but... dude. She's not interested. You even say as much in the song. Why are you bothering her? 9) ILY (I Love You Baby) - Surf Mesa feat. Emilee This... isn't really a song. It's a TikTok that grew legs and snuck its way onto the charts. I feel absolutely nothing listening to this. 8) Lose You to Love Me - Selena Gomez Olivia Rodrigo couldn't come soon enough. 7) Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) - Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo Mr. Desrouleaux is not a talented artist, and to make matters worse, he's a plagiarist. Every time Drake drops a new project I have to wonder, like… is he happy? Does he want to be doing this? Would he be in a better place doing something else? ROXANNE has honestly grown on me a lot over the months, say what you will about the content but at least it has a melody that sticks to you head, and I’d honestly take that over dreary slogs like Falling and Party Girl.

Something is wrong with me because I like the production and melodies to every song everybody hates like "Sunday Best","Intentions", "Toosie Slide", "Falling", "Nobody Love", and "Ice Cream" by Blackpink. And to make matters worse I don't like the production on songs everybody likes such as "Blinding Lights", "Don't Start Now", "The Box", and "Watermelon Sugar"! I find them too boring and four-chordy. Something must be wrong with my brain because I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing. I'm not talking about lyrics because I don't care for them. Please this really bothers me and I started hitting myself with a piece of wood because no one would answer me. I just want someone to acknowledge my opinion. I was raised to like certain types of beats, is that wrong? I can't even listen to those songs cause I know everybody hates them.

I disagree with your #1 - I do find Sunday Best to be a nice, happy, joyful song designed to make your day a little brighter, and whilst it may sound a little bland and forgettable at times, I'd forgive it for at least trying.
Also If the World is Ending is more of a meh song than a song that is trash to me; it doesn't have any qualities that make it stand out in any way which is good, but it is also the same for any of the qualities that would make it bad in my opinion.
But hey, at least both those songs are better than Yummy (the song that started the chaotic and dysfunctional year that is 2020), right???

I disagree with the Popstar placement, I think it’s actually a great song with a good hook and bars from Drake. It is not outstanding, nor is it the best Drake performance ever, but it is a great addition to any hype playlist!

I actually liked "Hard to Forget" but I get your hatred of it. Hatred of the artist and what he represents is why "More Than My Hometown" was my second least-favorite of 2020.

I might be from Gen Z and somehow Sunday Best reminds me of the worst moments of Pocket Full of Sunshine, blazing upbeat energy that is fake as all hell and of course overplayed on Target commericals.

Seeing you absolutely tear apart Hard To Forget and Sunday Best was very satisfying.
Something is wrong with me because I like the production and melodies to every song everybody hates like "Sunday Best","Intentions", "Toosie Slide", "Falling", "Nobody Love", and "Ice Cream" by Blackpink. And to make matters worse I don't like the production on songs everybody likes such as "Blinding Lights", "Don't Start Now", "The Box", and "Watermelon Sugar"! I find them too boring and four-chordy. Something must be wrong with my brain because I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing. I'm not talking about lyrics because I don't care for them. Please this really bothers me and I started hitting myself with a piece of wood because no one would answer me. I just want someone to acknowledge my opinion. I was raised to like certain types of beats, is that wrong? I can't even listen to those songs cause I know everybody hates them.

9. The Ritmo was a Fiat sold in the 80's. It would get rust spots if you drank a glass of water in your house. It was so bad it was responsible for Fiat jumping the American ship for three decades (though that doesn't mean they're not trying to do it again with the 500's.) Naming your song after a failure like that is prophetic.
8. Can we just agree that pop songs shouldn't use music boxes? This song is childish in an uninteresting way and that's not helping.

6. Ne-Yo did this setup a lot better. This song makes me want to listen to Ne-yo. At least the end of the world was fun with him.

1. I do believe my clothes are now completely monotone eggshell white and there's a puddle of bleach around my feet. I had no respect for trap music but even I'm disgusted on their behalf over this. This is all the bad of alt-rock after Kobain used his last microphone and Flagpole Sitta buried the genre.
