@@zerosummers343 Not only was it nominated for a Grammy, Bieber complained because it was nominated for a pop category instead of an R&B category. Same with Intentions (which was nominated for best pop duo) and the Changes album (which was nominated for best pop album).
Yeah, I thought Blinding Lights was the obvious choice, but I guess the Ratchet Academy had their hands full.

The worst thing to happen in pop music in 2020 was stan culture became powerful enough to get #1 hits.
Pop music was mostly cool at best and eye-roll worthy at worst.
Social media was at its worst in 2020.
Overall, I'd say that pop music this year was better than last year but it was also more infuriating with the takeover of the hot 100 by stans who are essentially Trump supporters in terms of idolization and pouting, and less interesting because most hits this year didn't feel as influential or weird. Sure, there was WAP, BTS and Pop Smoke having chart success, the return of pop punk, and Taylor Swift making indie folk, but none of that felt out of left field like Old Town Road or Billie Eilish.

And I can buy why someone thinks the song is condescending. In that regard, that's still their opinion and I'm still not seeing why that makes you so heated. Maybe the song means a lot to you, or helped you in a way, and that's great! But no song should be immune to criticism even if it helped you. ROXANNE has honestly grown on me a lot over the months, say what you will about the content but at least it has a melody that sticks to you head, and I’d honestly take that over dreary slogs like Falling and Party Girl.
Out of all of the Tik Tok songs it’s by far one of the best.

Drake has got to be wondering whether he’s in some sort of Twilight Zone hell at this point. I mean, he literally can’t fail financially no matter what he does at this point. He can literally shit out any piece of malformed garbage and people will buy it just because it’s him. Ten years ago when his success felt like it could have evaporated at any moment, the success must have meant something to him. Now he just sounds deeply, profoundly bored with his own career.

Drake actually still has a chance to impact the hip hop world, but instead he would rather “write” songs made for Tik Tok just to squeeze out every dollar that he doesn’t need. It actually blows my mind that he wants to be remembered as music industry pawn, rather than someone that actually wants to make good, original music.
It must just be laziness at this point and not wanting to put in the effort.

Every time Drake drops a new project I have to wonder, like… is he happy? Does he want to be doing this? Would he be in a better place doing something else? It’s like every other song he goes on about how he can’t trust anyone and his relationships keep falling apart and everything sucks but at least he’s balling and like… surely he’s got enough money now that he can do, like, something else? Something that doesn’t clearly make him feel like shit all the time?
I genuinely wonder why Drake stays in the game, not just because of his diminishing quality but for the sake of his own mental health. Maybe the dude needs to take a couple years off, live a quiet life for a while, spend some time with his kid, recharge his batteries, find some inspiration. I mean Jesus, with the frequency at which he’s been dropping new music it’s no surprise that he’s always so stressed. Dude’s probably working himself too hard.
Funny how I genuinely enjoy both of your Top 2 songs and yet I don't think I can reasonably disagree with just about anything you said about them.

I would say it's a matter of limited competition, but no - his hits this year really were that bad.
Yep. I forget Yummy even happened and I wish I could forget Intentions the same way. “Heart full of equity”... I genuinely don’t know what that’s supposed to mean, and it might be the worst line I’ve heard.
From now on, people should put Bieber on every worst list, including retro lists. For example, the next person to make a worst of 1975 list should put Intentions or Boyfriend on it, it's not like anyone would complain.
Just when you could forget (or at the very least, ignore) Bieber, he still lumps out a turd when you least expect it.
And he is guaranteed to have at least one song on the 2021 year end worst as well (Holy)

Yeah, Learn To Fly is great, but Sunday Best just speaks to me. I love the happy vibe and fun atmosphere, and it really helps improve my mood, even if I'm doing just fine.
I remember the first time I heard Party Girl. I was listening to music on Spotify and got an ad, and it was advertising and playing that song. It made me laugh so hard, way more than music that isn’t a parody or unintentionally bad ever should. My first thought was “wow, this is absolutely hilarious, I actually want to replay this ad”, and my second thought was, “how the fuck did a label sign this in confidence, and how does StaySolidRocky sleep at night knowing he released this monstrosity?”

Something is wrong with me because I like the production and melodies to every song everybody hates like "Sunday Best","Intentions", "Toosie Slide", "Falling", "Nobody Love", and "Ice Cream" by Blackpink. And to make matters worse I don't like the production on songs everybody likes such as "Blinding Lights", "Don't Start Now", "The Box", and "Watermelon Sugar"! I find them too boring and four-chordy. Something must be wrong with my brain because I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing. I'm not talking about lyrics because I don't care for them. Please this really bothers me and I started hitting myself with a piece of wood because no one would answer me. I just want someone to acknowledge my opinion. I was raised to like certain types of beats, is that wrong? I can't even listen to those songs cause I know everybody hates them.

One thing about Sunday Best that I don't think anyone noticed is that the verse flow is a 100% complete ripoff of the flow from Drowning by A Boogie wit da Hoodie. It's got the same stress, cadence, number of syllables, I thing even the same BPM.
Guess I'm the only one who doesn't hate "If the World was Ending." I find the wispy voices matched the apprehensive tone, and I interpret it as more about wanting to think they still have some mutual concern for each other than about trying to get back together.
This was one of your best videos in ages. Love the list, and the #1 was particularly satisfying considering I seem to be one of the few people that absolutely despises that song.

A core reason, compared more reprehensible songs, this topped this list is a sense of cultural damage this song can produce moving forward, Whereas this has been noted on retrospective worst lists he has done, this is a case where cultural damage, or a sense of it, is on a current list/year.
Despite a positive vibe you can pickup from this, there quite a bit of b.s. to this song you can also pickup on, even if you like it, that is passing itself as uplifting, which is where this song turns sour on people.
Awesome list. It was surprising to see “Yummy” as only on the Dishonorable Mentions and I was not expecting “Hot Girl Bummer” to be that low on the list. I was also surprised to see “Intentions” that high up. Anyways, the hardwork on this video is truly excellent and your aggressive, detailed, and complex take on this entries are also really good because it really justifies why you placed those songs in those places.
I think Justin Bieber is the only artist who has multiple songs here
And I believe he's already making himself comfortable in the worst of 2021 list.

I absolutely hate putting an artist I genuinely really like on this list, but... dude. She's not interested. You even say as much in the song. Why are you bothering her?
9) ILY (I Love You Baby) - Surf Mesa feat. Emilee
This... isn't really a song. It's a TikTok that grew legs and snuck its way onto the charts. I feel absolutely nothing listening to this.
8) Lose You to Love Me - Selena Gomez
Olivia Rodrigo couldn't come soon enough.
7) Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) - Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo
Mr. Desrouleaux is not a talented artist, and to make matters worse, he's a plagiarist. Not that the beat itself is all that great either; "irritating" is honestly the only word that comes to mind.
6) Intentions - Justin Bieber
Everyone rightly piled on Yummy for being horrendous, but come on. It's clear which of the two was actually worse. Yummy at least has a not-awful beat. This is just an amassment of random noises assembled confusingly into a radio single.
5) I Hope - Gabby Barrett
Hoo boy. When I first heard this one in the summer of 2019, I quite liked it. What the fuck was I thinking? Overplay hasn't ruined a song like this in a long, long time. Not even Before He Cheats got it this bad.
4) Falling - Trevor Daniel
This is the exact opposite of what a love song should sound like.
3) Hard to Forget - Sam Hunt
I've heard arguments in favor of this song, pointing out that Sam isn't being serious and is just lightheartedly teasing this girl. Even if that is the case... what in the everloving fuck is that sample? Instant migraine, without fail, every time.
2) Got What I Got - Jason Aldean
This song is about his second wife, whom he met via cheating on his first wife. Need I say more?
1) Stuck with U - Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber
Yeah, no. Two years in the rearview, this has only gotten worse. Ariana is a genuinely fantastic artist, and she's made a ton of music I love... but two years in a row, she also made my absolute least favorite hit song of the year. Between this and 7 Rings, I'm shocked that she didn't completely collapse.
Early prediction: Assuming the 2020s are on par with the 2010s hit songs, then Sunday Best will not make Mark’s top 10 worst hit songs of the 2020s.

DHM7: The most interesting thing about it is that I almost fell asleep when I first heard it on the radio (pre-pandemic). I was in a taxi, really tired after a day of work and a train trip to my hometown and...I just wanted to get home, not listen to miserable stuff.

8: Man, part of that chorus was similar to my state of mind in mid January-early February. (I resigned from an older job due to personal reasons and certain people from that company decided to play games with my mind while I was on the two weeks notice period). However, I still don't find the song to be good, because blackbear is not good/convincing enough of a performer.
Liked the MGK and the All Time Low songs that he was featured on this year, though. (Sidenote: To the person who told me to give Tickets To My Downfall a try, thank you. I enjoyed the album.)

I disagree with your #1 - I do find Sunday Best to be a nice, happy, joyful song designed to make your day a little brighter, and whilst it may sound a little bland and forgettable at times, I'd forgive it for at least trying.
Also If the World is Ending is more of a meh song than a song that is trash to me; it doesn't have any qualities that make it stand out in any way which is good, but it is also the same for any of the qualities that would make it bad in my opinion.
But hey, at least both those songs are better than Yummy (the song that started the chaotic and dysfunctional year that is 2020), right???

Something is wrong with me because I like the production and melodies to every song everybody hates like "Sunday Best","Intentions", "Toosie Slide", "Falling", "Nobody Love", and "Ice Cream" by Blackpink. And to make matters worse I don't like the production on songs everybody likes such as "Blinding Lights", "Don't Start Now", "The Box", and "Watermelon Sugar"! I find them too boring and four-chordy. Something must be wrong with my brain because I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing. I'm not talking about lyrics because I don't care for them. Please this really bothers me and I started hitting myself with a piece of wood because no one would answer me. I just want someone to acknowledge my opinion. I was raised to like certain types of beats, is that wrong? I can't even listen to those songs cause I know everybody hates them.
@@xyzman123 i mean if you have different taste than you being raised to like certain beats isn’t bad. heck i was raised on toby keith and luke bryan. that’s all my mom listened to as well as same hint but i don’t really like that anymore and trust me lots of songs people seem to hate i loved. such as “i hope” “sunday best” “nobody’s love” and “hard to forget” so i definitely understand it.

I actually liked "Hard to Forget" but I get your hatred of it. Hatred of the artist and what he represents is why "More Than My Hometown" was my second least-favorite of 2020.
"Bang" by AJR is the song that caused me the most torture last year.
Party Girl has been on four separate worst of lists (that's actually how I first heard about the song) it's not good and deserves its place on the list. Mark is way more sympathetic to StaySolidRocky than I would be having actually been friends with people who tried for years to make it in music but finally quit trying and got day jobs. I just hear this sort of song and it gives me flashbacks to scuzzy house parties I used to attend and instantly regret going to. Also, Bass Boosting is one of my pet peeves in music as it drowns out any kind of sound design on a track.
"Heart Full Of Equity" is one of those lines that feels tailor-made for getting turned into a snarky Internet meme. I'd say why isn't Memories by Maroon 5 listed but I think the fact that the song is Memories by Maroon 5 is punishment enough for that song. With Sam Hunt, I'm reminded of a quote from Steve Earle (forgive the liberal paraphrase) that a lot of country music has slowly become rap music for white people who are afraid of black people.
Also, I don't know if anything off of Playboy Carti's new Stream Trolling scheme I mean album would have made this list even as a dishonorable mention oh boy is that an unlistenable pile of bass boosted codswallop! Two years for that I feel sorry for his fans
I disagree with the Popstar placement, I think it’s actually a great song with a good hook and bars from Drake. It is not outstanding, nor is it the best Drake performance ever, but it is a great addition to any hype playlist!
