I cannot believe that after all this painstaking work you fired this bike up for the first time and your facial expression did not change - absolutely dead-pan. I would have been grinning from ear to ear and probably doing cartwheels around the workshop. Absolutely stunning restoration; this bike is good for another 50 years.
Thank you! Believe me, internally I was screaming with joy, but I must’ve accidentally left my excitement on the workbench😂✌🏼 I hope this bike can be preserved this way for another 50 years, and I’m thrilled to have shared this restoration with you! My true joy will be fulfilled in my upcoming video. Regards Andreas
Dear Sir, I have just completed a full restoration on a 1976 Honda CB125J 4 Stroke single. I understand both the pains and the joys of getting to the finish. You have done an absolutley outstanding job. Thanks for posting....
Thank you so much for the compliment! That’s exactly the goal I was striving for-to bring it back to its original glory as if it just rolled off the factory floor. I’m glad the attention to detail shines through! Happy New Year and all the best! Regards Andreas
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! It means a lot to hear that the effort and attention to detail come through in the final result. I’m truly proud of how it turned out and grateful for the opportunity to share it with others who appreciate these classics! -Andreas
You did a fabulous job on this, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I bought a 1974 R-90/6 new, which I owned for many years. This was during the time that several modifications became available to improve the performance of these bikes. I eventually installed several parts developed by San Jose BMW, including a reinforced swing arm, a much stronger upper triple clamp, and a fork brace. Together they dramatically reduced the flexing of the forks and swing arm, making the bike handle much better. I also added heavy duty fork springs, heavier weight fork oil, and Koni shocks with triple rate springs. This also made huge improvements in handling, while making the ride admittedly more stiff. In addition, a Boyer electronic ignition system improved engine performance while reducing maintenance. I then added a deeper oil pan for better lubrication, roller-bearing valve rockers, and eventually thicker base gaskets to reduce the compression after leaded gasoline became unavailable, because the valve guides on these airheads relied on the lead for proper lubrication. What have you done to adapt the bike to unleaded gas? Did you consider electronic ignition? Looking for a disc brake upgrade? You’ve done a marvelous job restoring the bike to its original condition, but several upgrades would bring its performance, safety, and maintenance closer to current standards.
Great job! I remember them being sold in 1970. They were just short of a thousand pounds in the UK, when a Mini was under 450 pounds and a Bonneville under 300 pounds. For the price of the R60 one could literally buy a small house then! No wonder they didn't sell many. I'm told that despite the price BMW were losing money on them and it wasn't until they started making cars that they became financially sound.
I love to see a young man working with such perfection, know how and patience. You should be very proud of yourself sir. I rode one of these when I was in high school back in the early 70’s. I’ve owned a BMW motorcycle ever since. I have a R1200RT.
It's great to know these bikes hold such fond memories for you. Thanks for watching and I hope you continue to enjoy your current ride, the R1200RT. Regards Andreas
What a beauty. Congrats to the result. Your shop looks really clean which I like. I have restored my Hercules Ultra 80 from 1980 during the past 2 years in a friend's shop. Gladly, he has two lifting platforms. I enjoyed restoring the bike, even though it was so much work. If it was for any money, it wouldnt have been worth it. Yet I didnt bother not a second, as my personal happiness outweighed all the stress by far. Br from Germany
Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s amazing to hear about your restoration journey with the Hercules Ultra 80-what a fantastic project! I completely agree, the joy and satisfaction from restoring something meaningful far outweigh any challenges along the way. Having access to a friend’s shop with lifting platforms must have been a huge help. Speaking of classics, I have an upcoming project that involves an engine similar to the ones found in Hercules bikes. It’s something I think you might enjoy, so stay tuned! Best regards from across the pond, and keep saving those classics! Regards - Andreas
Thank you so much! Your words mean a lot to me. It’s always a rewarding feeling to know the hard work and attention to detail are appreciated. I’m glad you liked the restoration! Regards Andreas
Wow, thank you so much! That’s an incredibly kind compliment-though I think the Louvre might have to expand their collection criteria a bit for motorcycles! 😊 For now, it’s just great to share the passion and craftsmanship with everyone who appreciates it. Regards Andreas
Wow, that's fantastic. What a great restoration. I like these old bikes and their relative simplicity. When I was young, that was my dream motorbike. Now, I ride a BMW 1300GS. It's not a bad motorbike, though, but it has way too much electronic stuff on it. I still have an R1100RS from 1996, which I may revive at some point. Anyhow, I would love to have such a bike or the 75/6 for the disc brakes.
Awesome work. I love my unmolested 1971 R60/5 but they are getting ever increasingly rare so its great to see another one being given love and life. Top work 🎉 😊
Thank you so much for the kind words! It’s wonderful to hear you’re enjoying your unmolested 1971 R60/5-such a beautiful bike and a true classic! These gems are definitely becoming rarer, which makes preserving and restoring them all the more meaningful. I’m thrilled to have given this one a second chance at life. Thanks again for the support and for sharing your love for these bikes! 😊
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed the engine rebuild video as well! It was a big part of the restoration, and I'm happy you appreciated the process! Regards Andreas
Subscribed since the engine rebuild video. Craftsmanship, precision, and a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and cursing make for great results. Even non-mechanically oriented people can understand this motor vehicle is valuable.
Thank you for sticking around since the engine rebuild video! I really appreciate your support!! You’re absolutely right, projects like this are a mix of craftsmanship, precision, and a fair share of hard work and persistence. It’s so rewarding to see the final result and to share the journey with people like you. Thanks again for subscribing and for your thoughtful comment-it means a lot! -Andreas
This is clearly not your first full refurbishment project. I don't think it's your first BMW Boxer engine experience either. Decades ago I nearly bought a second hand R80RT. They are nice old bikes but I would not feel so happy riding a bike without at least front disks these days. A lovely rebuild.
Thank you! You’re absolutely right; this isn’t my first rodeo with a full refurbishment, and I’ve definitely spent some time working on BMW engines over the years. The R80RT is a classic-such a solid bike! I can understand your hesitation with the lack of front discs, especially given modern expectations for braking performance. But there’s something special about the simplicity and character of the older models, even if they don’t have all the modern conveniences. Thanks again for the kind words! Regards Andreas
Fantastic, superb, unbelievable, beautiful, incredible, absolute perfection. I just can't find the right words. This brings tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for all your hard work and patience. I just can't believe it. Well done!! Chris in Richmond, Virginia USA.
Thank you so much, Chris! Your heartfelt words truly mean the world to me. Knowing that the work resonates with someone as deeply as it does with you makes every bit of effort worth it. Your kindness and appreciation are incredibly motivating. Greetings from cold & snowy part of central, Alberta -thank you for your support! 😊🙏
Thank you for being part of this project! Your support means a lot to me, and assure you this won‘t be my last restoration project😊 Happy New Year! -Andreas
Great result and I've watched all of the build videos which are the inspiration for me doing my R80/7 Restomod. I've never rebuilt an engine but your videos give me the confidence to have a go.
Thank you so much for following along and watching all the build videos! It’s amazing to hear that they’ve inspired you to take on your R80/7 Restomod-that’s exactly why I share these projects. Rebuilding an engine for the first time can seem daunting, but with patience and determination, you’ll get there! I’m excited for you to dive in, and I’m sure your build will turn out incredible. Best of luck-you’ve got this! 💪🔧✨ -Andreas
Bravo and congratulations! Like the rest of us I've been waiting on the reveal of your finished bike and it is a stunner🤩Really appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail you've poured into reviving this jewel - whoever is getting this is very, very lucky! Wishing you and yours a very happy new year!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate the support and patience throughout the process. It means a lot to hear such positive feedback. Wishing you a fantastic New Year as well! 🎉
It takes a special nutcase to be able to rebuild a beauty like this, and wow those are some miles on the saddle! Great job hope to see this bike do another 90k miles!
Haha, I'll take "special nutcase" as a compliment-thank you! 😊 It’s definitely been a labor of love, and those miles on the saddle tell some amazing stories. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about its past 93'000 Miles , but the journey it's had must've been absolutely amazing! I'm just glad to be part of its story now and hope to keep it going for many more miles! Appreciate the kind words! 🙌 Cheers - Andreas
Just adding my congratulations on your perseverance and the quality of your work. Your gentleness, especially during disassembly, is in such contrast to practically every other rejuvenation video common on UA-cam, and speaks deeply of your skill and mechanical intuition. What beauty you created!
Good to see an original bike, restored to it's former glory. I had enaugh from cutted rear ends and nobbly tyres on these bikes. Have much fun with your rubber cow.
Thank you! I love the idea of saving it for those perfect sunny Sundays-it really is one of those bikes that's just so special in many ways. It's great to hear you appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it!
Thank you so much for following along and for the kind words! I'm thrilled that you think it looks better than new - that really means a lot. Old motorcycles have such a special charm, and it's been a pleasure bringing this one back to life! Regards Andreas
Wow ! Well done ! And I love that you have restored the bike to original and not butchered it to a café racer. I just replaced the crankshaft and bearings on one of my bikes (not a classic unfortunately) and I can relate to the anxiety of the moment of pressing that starter button for the first time :-) Again: well done !! (And thanks for creating the video, that in itself is also quite some work !)
I have learnt so much about these machines . When it’s this good it’s not madness it’s conservation and sharing passing on skills to the next lot, thank you 👍👍
That is a cool vid but it could be longer. Love it though. I live in Berlin where BMW build there bikes. You did a fantastic job. That is show quality.
WOW! I would be keeping that lovely machine. I don't think it could have got a better restoration. Absolutely beautiful. Makes me want one too!! My Dad did have a mid 1970s model. One of the first with side by side instruments and disc brakes. Can't remember the exact model now. Great video. Short but surprisingly detailed Well done all round.
Dear Sir, I live in Australia and in 1979 I bought a brand new BMW R80/7, therefore I really enjoyed your video on the restoration of your BMW R60/5, outstanding work!
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your story! A brand-new BMW R80/7 in 1979 must have been an incredible experience-it’s such an iconic bike. I’m thrilled you enjoyed the restoration video of the R60/5; it’s always great to connect with fellow enthusiasts who appreciate these timeless machines. Best regards to you in Australia! 🌏 Regards Andreas
That decision truly sets this bike apart from others, but I figured, why not make a subtle change while it's already undergoing a full restoration? I'm glad you like the color too-it really does shine beautifully in the sunlight. I'll share more on that once riding season arrives here in central Alberta! Happy New Year! Cheers!
Absolutely stunning end product Andreas!! I'm so glad you persevered with the bike. I'd forgotten that it was that bronze/orange colour in the first place. I hope that whoever you give it to enjoys it for many many miles or kilometres.
Thank you for being a part of this restoration, Simon! I still remember all the great comments you’ve shared along the way 😊👍🏻. It’s been a pleasure to share this project with you, and I’m confident it will be in good hands - something I hope you’ll see in the next video. Regards Andreas
Thank you for the video. The BMW looks beautiful. You've done a good job. I'm just in the middle. Of sorting out. The electrics on my bike. get it finished complete by the end of this year. Happy New Year to you. David.
man!... you make it look so easy.. fantastic job with meticulous attention to detail... and tbe production quality of the video itsefl ... mwah *chefs kiss* and the state of your shop (and all the jigs you made)..... ahh .. this makes my OCD soul so happy :D this really speaks to me
Well done ! The time and money it takes to do something like this is underappreciated . Spokes on anything are such a time consuming pain in the butt. Lol
Thank you! You're absolutely right; it takes a lot of time, effort, and dedication to bring a project like this to life. And yes, spokes can be a real test of patience, but the final result makes it all worth it! 😊 Cheers - Andreas
Fantastic video beautifully produced and filmed - The end result is wonderful - these are great bikes and worth this amount of effort - congratulations ! - this restoration really was an outstanding achievemnent 😊 . . .
Thank you so much for the kind words and thoughtful comment! 😊 It truly means a lot to hear that you enjoyed the video and appreciate the effort that went into the restoration. These bikes are indeed special, and it was a labor of love to bring this one back to life. Your support and encouragement make all the hard work worthwhile-thank you! 🙏 -Andreas
That's wonderful!!! Your 1951 R25 sounds like such a unique and special bike, especially with the PTO hub for the sidecar drive - that's a fantastic feature! I actually found an R25 locally and got it up and running in a previous video. You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/aHpINyfw9EM/v-deo.htmlsi=yfDnDCE-n62Kpk6l It was a great experience bringing it back to life, and I hope you enjoy the video! Regards Andreas
Stunning restoration. Great work. Don't junk the Vetter Windjammer. They have become somewhat of collectors items and you might get a good offer if it's in decent shape.
Appreciated.... I lived on one of these from age 16 to age 26... we experienced much of north america as youngsters. Later I bought a RT80 which was less enjoyable and then an R100 (I believe) which was even less my style. If anyone has an R60/5 available please contact me. Thanks, HT
Thank you, HT! Sounds like you’ve had some amazing adventures on these bikes. 😎 I hope you find another R60/5 to continue your journey. There are still many out there that could use a new owner. Keep your eyes pealed, there‘s always a deal to be found😊👍🏻 Regards Andreas
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed following along with the restoration journey. It’s been a labor of love, and sharing it with yourself makes it all the more rewarding! 😁👍🏻✨ I've appreciated your support since the start of this project! -THANK YOU & a Happy New Year!! Regards Andreas
Great video and great workmanship. I have also used Matt from Euro motor electrics and cannot say enough good things about them. Great products and great support. I love my R60/5, best bike I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few 30:53
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you noticed the attention to detail, and I appreciate the positive feedback on the video as well! I appreciate the work you put into the pinstripes, as they turned out amazingly well. Another fuel tank is on the way very soon an it'll be nice to add more stripes of your to the paint. Happy New Year and all the best! -Andreas
Great to see all this work condensed into one video, although I love your deep dives into each process as well. Can you let us know how you keep parts/screws/bolts etc. together when you are disassembling all the parts down to the frame? Do you label everything or keep related parts in bags or what's your recommendation there? thanks
I cannot believe that after all this painstaking work you fired this bike up for the first time and your facial expression did not change - absolutely dead-pan. I would have been grinning from ear to ear and probably doing cartwheels around the workshop. Absolutely stunning restoration; this bike is good for another 50 years.

Truly a grand work of mechanical & visual art. Perhaps you'll consider displaying your masterpiece in the Louvre!

Dear Sir, I live in Australia and in 1979 I bought a brand new BMW R80/7, therefore I really enjoyed your video on the restoration of your BMW R60/5, outstanding work!
What do you think that's worth in Australia ?
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your story! A brand-new BMW R80/7 in 1979 must have been an incredible experience-it’s such an iconic bike. I’m thrilled you enjoyed the restoration video of the R60/5; it’s always great to connect with fellow enthusiasts who appreciate these timeless machines. Best regards to you in Australia! 🌏 Regards Andreas
Absolutely beautiful!

This model BMW I owned i the early 80s. It brings back great memory's. You did a fantastic yob.
En 1971 c'était ma première moto, le défaut la fourche une pompe à vélo .
Very neat work and attention to detail, great work , a Masterclass..well done .
Wow, what a beautiful job. I love R bikes.
I like how the paint shifted to copper more than orange!
That decision truly sets this bike apart from others, but I figured, why not make a subtle change while it's already undergoing a full restoration? I'm glad you like the color too-it really does shine beautifully in the sunlight. I'll share more on that once riding season arrives here in central Alberta! Happy New Year! Cheers!

Fantastic job young man, well done. All I can say is wow.😊
Beautiful high quality restoration
Thank you! I'm so glad you think so - it was a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end. Regards Andreas
Congratulations, awesome work. Happy new year!. Best regards from Spain.
Wow! Wow! Wow! As a Honda cb500.550 guy, I have always been attracted to these BMWs too, always being told they are too hard and expensive to restore.
I love watching good motorcycle restoration videos
Absolutely stunning end product Andreas!! I'm so glad you persevered with the bike. I'd forgotten that it was that bronze/orange colour in the first place. I hope that whoever you give it to enjoys it for many many miles or kilometres.
Thank you for being a part of this restoration, Simon! I still remember all the great comments you’ve shared along the way 😊👍🏻. It’s been a pleasure to share this project with you, and I’m confident it will be in good hands - something I hope you’ll see in the next video. Regards Andreas

Beautiful work. Congratulations.
This old bikes are made to last forever 😊
I've owned two. First one i completely restored. Second one was a super early model. Manufactured in December 1969.

@WorkshopRebuild absolutely welcome!! I enjoy your work. I will be restoring a 1977 R100/7 this year.
@@stevekovacs6250 What a great project! I have the same R100 engine in the back waiting to be worked on - more to come on that.
@@WorkshopRebuild can't wait to see that one!! Cheers!
Beautiful work, Sir! My first motorcycle was a 1951 R25 - a 250cc, single-seater that had a PTO hub for a sidecar drive - 7832H.

Thank you very much, John!!
Such a perfect job❤
Stunning restoration. Great work.
Don't junk the Vetter Windjammer. They have become somewhat of collectors items and you might get a good offer if it's in decent shape.
Greetings from Spandau , exzellente Wiederherstellung.
You did a wonderful job and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you complete the BMW 😁👍🏻

Great job! Nice looking bike.
@@roymorgan5498 Thank you very much, Roy!
Great to see all this work condensed into one video, although I love your deep dives into each process as well. Can you let us know how you keep parts/screws/bolts etc. together when you are disassembling all the parts down to the frame? Do you label everything or keep related parts in bags or what's your recommendation there? thanks
