How I got in to Medical School: My Application (Stats, ECs)

- Now that I've successfully gone through an application cycle and been accepted, I'm comfortable sharing these parts of my application. In this video, I go through some of the different sections of my AMCAS including GPA, MCAT score, and extracurricular activities. I was applying to MD/PhD programs, so my application has more of a research focus than most medical school applicants, but the application process is the same and so are most of the expectations. I hope this video is helpful and gives you some perspective on some of the activities medical schools might be looking for!

I don't know how much time these videos cost you, but they're awesome and I really appreciate them!!! Also undergrad at washu so I got hype for that shoutout lol
Your dedication and character is truly inspiring. You're gonna do great things.
I love to see a fellow percussionist who is also interested in medicine! I competed in marching bands and indoor winter percussion ensembles for a few years during high school and my freshman year of college! I’m currently prepping for the MCAT but happy to see that a fellow percussionist is succeeding!
Ayo- good luck from another band-kid premed ! You’ll do great! Love seeing marching band and indoor representatives. Will be prayin for you and hope you get into your desired school! :D
Update letters are great idea, thanks! Also, MD PhD application and personal statement key points will be useful.
Appreciate the honesty and openness. Keep up the videos!! They are extremely helpful.
Will always watch this to keep myself motivated 🙏🏽
Looking forward to the videos on how to do well in med school.
All of this is golden! Thank you!
Your videos have been extremely helpful to me. Thanks for keeping your advice so straightforward
Hi Michael!
Thank you so much for the helpful video! 😊
Can you please do a study routine or best study strategies that have worked for you in college? I would be very grateful.
Awesome video!
Impressed with quality and channel size already!!
Love your content!!! I hope to go to medical school too and your videos provide me with a lot of insight on the process. Thank you for making these informative videos.
Great job though im happy everything has worked out for you. Good luck with med school.
Can you please make a video on your Research and Clinical experience? Go in depth. I would like to know how you got both Research and Clinical oppurtunities, what to expect, any knowledge that needs to be known before pursuing these oppurtunities, how to manage course work and both oppurtunities, etc. Please and Thank you!
I am a Junior Biology Student (due to dual enrollment credits) and I have 3 years to do everything. My knowledge is rusty because I have not started my main courses (starting next semester) and I want to shadow and do research but am anxious because I don't know if I can handle it just yet. Eventually I will have to, but I would like to start early.
Oh shoot i'm a percussionist as well, i'm currently 17 and this fall i will be going into . my sophomore year of college. I too aspire to go to medical school for an M.D/P.h.D hopefully things go pretty smoothly for me.
Thanks for sharing!!!!! ❤️🙌🏾
Also a marimbist! and congrats on your acceptances!!
Good advice! I'll definitely be thinking more holistically when I put together my app. I wish you good luck in med school! Btw you're really cute haha
Humble king
This is so inspiring even though it has taken me one year to view it
video quality is perfect

TLDR... he got a 527 😂
His iq is probably just as high.
Yeah but he got that because he worked hard af for that number you could do it too if you applied yourself this much
Shawn Quinn my GOD
What school did apply to, it would help greatly for my medication application thank you
Hey man, love the content! Just wanted to ask what kind of laptop is that specifically?
The surface book. Probably the Surface Book 2.
I’m in high school looking to get into med school eventually. I’m currently taking dual enrollment courses and I was wondering how many and what kind of dual enrollment credits you had on your final transcript??
Awesome!
Well done
I currently have my BSN I am only 22 years old. I am currently taking my science pre reqs for med school I only need 7 classes to finish. I live in Texas so I will be applying to my state schools. Is there any tips you can give me of anything extra I can do? I currently work 3 days a week and have a flexible schedule to take the rest of my pre reqs.
That’s a unique but cool situation! I would just make sure your activities demonstrate that you are committed to becoming a doctor as opposed to continuing as a nurse. So if possible mix in a good amount of physician shadowing and/or research since I assume you already have a lot of patient exposure with the nursing degree! And obviously do your best to get good grades in the prerequisites and do well on the MCAT
Yo, how do you get research opportunities in your first two years of undergrad? Bc that’s the dream.
You will do great at UCLA!
Is getting into D.O. Or M.D. school unrealistic with a 3.5 gpa w/ good extra curricular, LOR’s, and MCAT?
It's not unrealistic (especially DO), just apply broadly and make sure your essays are really strong!
Michael Gongwer Thanks for the reply! Appreciate the tips
Michael Gongwer good advice about essays. I didn’t have standout stats and interviewed at good schools because I worked hard on my personal statement. I help students with their personal statements with my UA-cam channel. Check it out for free tips and tricks.
@@premedmuse4842 Can you review mine?
What was the name of that tutoring/cooking club?
How many hours of clinical and volunteer would you say u did in total ?
thanks !
What books did u use, Princeton or Kaplan
Alright so 4.0 GPA and 527 MCAT score, got it! 😂
Did you start your research at sophomore year?
I started in the spring semester of my first year!
Can you make a videos talking more about your rejections and do you think your extracurricular was the only reason those schools didn’t send you an acceptance letter?
It's really hard to say why the rejections came, I'm sure it wasn't the exact same reason for every school. The extracurriculars probably played a big role but it also could have been where I went to undergrad, essays, or something else completely random. This isn't exactly a transparent process haha
Where did you go for college
Indiana Wesleyan University
