when you said, decide quick so other people can have a chance for that spot, you got my like. That's compassionate. You will be a great doctor. Congrats!
That’s such a beautiful perspective. Shoutout to him, I’ve been watching UA-cam videos for years and not once have heard someone say that. Shoutout to him.
Im in the same boat with a 3.8 but in all honesty volunteering, shadowing, extracurricular, leadership activities, research, etc all come into consideration
Ady there’s way more to the application than that. Sounds like your 4.0 friend was checkboxing, bad at interviews, or fucked up on their application somewhere
You got into some amazing schools especially considering you only applied to md/PhDs!!! Those have such limited space! Now you won’t have to worry about debt from grad school :) Congratulations 🎉
UCLA is my dream medical school! I'm a Southern California native and once you live here its pretty hard to want to live anywhere else haha. Sent out applications a few days ago, so we will see what happens! Congratulations buddy!
@@dayannaortiz2257 What a crazy application year it was for me haha. I was accepted to multiple schools, and will be attending the rival of UCLA which is USC Keck with a 2 year full tuition scholarship!
The MD-PhD program at Harvard-MIT program is almost impossible to get an interview with unless you are a graduate of Harvard or any of the Ivy League schools. Most if not all of those accepted have a 4.0 GPA and an MCAT score of 524 and above with an impressive extra-curricular credentials. Majority of the class of 2019 are harvard graduates and 2 of them have published at the New England Journal of Medicine. Anyone who gets published at the NEJM automatically becomes a celebrity in his field. The UCLA program is topnotch as well so you can never make a wrong decision with any of the 4 schools you got an acceptance from.
Congratulations! I’m currently going into my undergraduate freshman year at UCSD study Biochemistry as well. I’m very impressed with all of your achievements, and was wondering if you could make a video addressing how you went through the process of getting all of your research opportunities during the first few years of undergraduate study. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations! UCLA is a great school! I am interested in applying for MD/PHDs so I'm looking forward to the rest of your videos! Thank you so much for posting, and best of luck!!
I definitely agree that it's a random process. I got interviews at Wash U and Hopkins as well, and thought I NAILED them, but was waitlisted and Wash U and post-II rejected at Hopkins. It all worked out for me in the end, but there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to which schools liked me and which didn't.
Well that is great, congrats. For an undergrad, the prestige from certain school might lead to higher chance of employment but pretty much all medical degrees are prestige, so the school you go to matter less.
The MD-PhD program at UCLA is connected with Caltech and if you are doing a PhD at Caltech then you should talk more about that because that us arguably one of the best schools in the WORLD.
I wanna apply but I’m so worried been really sick ever sense I looked the application.... Couple of people that I know applied to medical school... both got accepted ... 1st one got accepted to the pharmacy program midwestern after 2 years her gpa sucks, she volunteered for the 2 years... 2nd one got accepted to the MD program somewhere in Florida... his gpa was 3.8 just like mine...
I have heard from/worked with multiple Wash U residents who all seem to agree on the fact that their med school seems to put a greater emphasis on academic credentials than other qualities. That being said, they all seemed like they were destined to excel in their respective fields and when it comes down to making a decision between UCLA and Wash U, there is no wrong choice.
Wow, congrats!! I'm so happy to hear that you got 11 interviews that's so impressive! Not sure if you already did this on your channel, but are you open to the possibility of explaining your extracurriculars/ grades in another video; or maybe just explaining what you did right?? Thank you!!
I can’t imagine a 4.0 student with high MCAT score only got accepted in 4 Medical Schools. I don’t the chances for an average Student like me. I am so nervous 😩
Not in the first tier competitive programs. As he was saying, he had some weak areas in his stats so some schools did not grant him an interview. There are lots of candidates with better stats that him and are in the same situation of getting a few rejections but they always get accepted. The MD/PhD program is free and extremely competitive so watch out for those geniuses applying for them. Do well on your MCAT because if you get a score below 500, you probably won't get any interviews.
The Fee Assistance Program only helps a little...so how would you endure four years of medical school and paying the rent each month? Can you help me out and tell me how it is you are paying the rent portion? That I would really like to know. From parents?
Your rejections are quite hard but you are a great person in Academics. Forget about the Ivy League. The lesser known Schools are simply amazing, Iowa and Pittsburgh are great choices.
As long as you have money you can apply to school where you want. As what I have learned most student in American is loaded with debt 75,000 dollar per year, in our country only cost 1000 dollars per year
Hi Micheal, Thanks for the great video! Could you make a video about what MD/Ph.D. program is and how it is different from the MD program? Thank you!!!
hey we're on the same campus! I'm an undergrad at UCLA, do you know what are the class requirements UCLA needs? I did some research and it includes molecular biology and I'm not sure if it is a true or not?
Hey Michael (and anyone else reading who may have recommendation for this question), I was going to take the MCAT on july 20th so I can apply before August and hope to match into military medical school for Fall 2020, the problem is I have 0 EC's/shadowing/research currently but, have been told I may be able to accumulate those hours from the time and send a letter with updates on the hours as fall 2020 gets closer.. I'm not sure how that works so I've been also considering just waiting for 2021 so I don't have to rush these things. What would you say?
In your case it might be better to wait a year so you don't have to rush things and you can submit your primary in June. Updates only work if you somewhat have your foot in the door already, and if you don't have any hours it's pretty unlikely that they will still be considering your application by the time you have a reasonable amount of hours. I would say focus on the MCAT now, then once that is done spend your remaining time getting a good amount of clinical/research hours and perfecting your application because it sounds like your application could be a ton stronger if you wait!
when you said, decide quick so other people can have a chance for that spot, you got my like. That's compassionate. You will be a great doctor. Congrats!

So not true. In fact, a minority of the class has graduated from Harvard or Ivy Leagues, and that’s the case most often.
