Thanks for the tip about the mythical "L" version, I have seen these advertised and wondered about them. I bought a used Yaesu Ft-450d from you a few years back and it served me very well. Thanks, Tom

Martyn, so with this HT radio I can TX/RX via 1.25 Meters. My UV-5R+ only gets me 2 Meter and 70 Cm. That would be a welcome addition. I really like the looks and capability of the TYT 9800 Quad band radio as well. Thanks for your videos.

The X model is unique to my company and gives full 136 to 174 and 218 to 260MHz Coverage, The TYT 9800 is an awesome transceiver,, selling very well :) Best 73s

Hey Martin, thank you for the review. I am not sure if I should get the UV-82 or the UV-5RE+. I am interested in obtaining my ham license in the near future. Can you tell me what you would hear in this range the 82x is in? Have not seen other hand helds offer this range of frequencies. Thanks

      Hi there
I would go for the regular UV-82 as 220MHz activity is limited to certain areas.
In my opinion I like the 82 more than the 5 series (the RE, RA, RC, R+ etc are all the same radio) I find the 82 to have slightly more TX power out, has a larger 1800ma battery and the receiver seems more sensitive,
Also it cost $5 less :)

      The 82 covers 136 to 174 and 400 to 520MHz, the 82L covers 136 to 174 and 220 to 280MHz
Good luck with your ham license and hope you pass

I'm interested in a cheap, but higher quality handheld MURS radio(for work). My company uses Motorolas but they are very expensive. Which Baofeng do you recommend? Thanks.

If its commercial use I would go for the Baofeng GT-3 or UV-8+
if you need 2 and 5 tone capability the TYT UV-F1A www.radio-mart.net/TYT-TH-UVF1A.html
