There's a dog running around, a cooker alarm going off, someone creeping up the stairs in the background and John Paul White teaching me how to play an amazing song!! Thank you for the insight John Paul!!! All the best, John from the UK

You are my favorite artist for so many reasons. This is one of them...willingness to share & champion others, humility, vulnerability. And then all that comes through in the way you deliver songs. Thank you. Keep being you.

Making it a family affair! I love it! Thank you for your dedication to your fans and this community that loves and respects you. I have always said it, your craftsmanship is more than your voice, you are a killer guitarist. BTW my condolences to you on the loss of a great idol.

That's terrific man. I'm a music teacher and this distance learning thing is a challenge. Taking some time out to learn a favorite song (from the originator!) is great. I think you did a fine job for the first time, especially with only one camera. If anybody misses anything they can just go back and watch again. I always have a hard time with picking patterns so its great that you focused on that. Hope you and yours are doing well. Keep it up!

I love this! I was about 90% correct in my version of it. Thank you for taking the time to show us all the badass riffs you came up with. You should do something from “The long goodbye,” I think it’d be fun. It’d be a challenge I think. I’m sure you remember how to play them but like you said it’d make you go back and remember why you wrote them in the first place. Anyways hope you and your family stay safe. Thank you Sensei!

Hey man. My girl & I saw you in Tallahassee, Fl. the last time you played here. I'm a songwriter too and I love what you do. Fan for a while. I just can't even listen to music the same way I did before I got a guitar. So when the music gives me goosebumps, I'm a believer. So thanks so much for showing these songs too. I play several of your songs & a couple of covers you do. It's a great way to hide from monotony.

I've seen you perform this live a few times. Your finger picking skills are incredible. Your melodies are so intricate it's almost impossible to believe you can make a "for dummies" series about them. You're an incredible musician. Thank you for this contribution to the music world. I could say that about all your stuff really, but you have to start somewhere!

I think it's amazing! A little more close in the chords of the bridge would help but nothing that compromises the lesson though. I loved to know how you work to your songs to be interesting with only you in the stage. Mission accomplished btw. 😊

Nah, I think you've got the speed just about right, it's not necessarily going to be for beginning players who don't already have an intuitive feel for fingerstyle though.. I've played all my life and learned it just after you released it.. it already made sense to my ear.. It's a beautiful combination of partials and open notes..

Hey JP I'm from green hill. Rogers 95.
What if you played the song in C# (aka D flat) in an open low chord if you tuned only 1/2 step down and dropped the 6th string to open C#? All natural feeling pentatonic and minor scales would be in normal positions. Pops on open notes become easy, too.
Thanks for showing us your guitar lessons. Harmony vocal lessons would be great too!
    Take care!

Thanks for posting! Quick question - when playing some of the “unknown chords” - did u discover them by trial and error based on what worked or is it learned from other guitarists/songwriters? Colin meloy (Decemberists) posted a similar how to video and had the same “I don’t know what this chord is but here it is” comment.
