Hacking just the top fin off a live shark and tossing it back to die is so horrible. I had no idea this is how it was done- I thought they'd take the whole shark and use the whole animal. So brutal and beyond wasteful.
In Asia, shark fin soup is a delicacy. You find on menus in the top restaurants, especially in Thailand and Vietnam. They don't care how horrible it is, as long they get the fin. Those fishermen know the risk, but to them, it's worth it because they would have money to live.
It's been done that way for decades. These people have no respect for life. There is little you can do, as they have no money, and they get better treatment in prison than at home.

I have been watching this show for a very long time and am just amazed at the amount of un-declared foodstuffs being brought into the country. One question I have is why are not ALL of the foodstuffs even if it is available commercially in Australia are not taken and destroyed and the fines levied against each individual type of food. Quite frankly a fine of $220.00 is a joke. It should be $ 2,200.00 and All foodstuffs confiscated and destroyed. If enough people get huge fines and loss of the foodstuffs particularly regular travelers who know the rules but decide to chance their arm the message will get through. Just because a product is available commercially in Australia that is no guarantee that the items are safe to bring in. It should be a zero tolerance stance with no exceptions.
I don’t understand why they don’t start throwing the book at these people. She knew she wasn’t supposed to bring plants in her baggage. All countries not just Australia have ridiculously low fines
I would like to see a policy where any possible biosecurity threat brought in to Australia, what it is brought in is considered to be contaminated and all luggage destroyed. No excuses or mitigation.
Always threats of prosecution but I’ve never once seen anyone get a fine more than $350.00. Start seriously charging people and the amount of food, seeds and plants might decrease
As of 2025 .... Cancel jail penalties instead of paying a fine - they get a month of being cooped up in a jail - which is apparently better than their own conditions at home 🤔🤔🤔🤔 so we are giving them a break or holiday for being so cruel and callous to the sharks.... 🤷🤷🤷🤦🤦
If I were a poor fisherman I'd take the jail sentence for sure. 3 meals a day and comfortable bed in an Austin prison as opposed to forking out money they don't have.

Lol, everyone should have to go through the "declare" line. They can get cleared quickly and be on their way. Just as going through customs at the beginning of travels
I'm so weary of narrators understating how much more acute a sniffer dog's sense of smell is compared with that of a human! The following I lifted from one of many very similar search results: " . . . Scientists report that a dog's sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than a human's. One of the reasons a dog has a much better smelling ability than we do has to do with the number of scent receptors: For every scent receptor a human has, a dog has about 50." Just saying. 😭
Illegal Fishermen wouldn't mind being in Aussie prison for few weeks because they will get better food and accommodation than they have in their home. There should be harsh conditions for them to deter them from coming back for illegal activities.
Chop, change, chop. This would be much better viewing if they ran one story from beginning to end, then the next one, etc. instead of chopping and changing throughout the whole program.
Kudos for customs for doing a great job and the coast guard Sad what these fishermen are foo g to our eco system Sadley they never pay their fines Imagine the cost and resources the government uses
Unless theses procedures are drawn out for the show; I feel like they spend way too much for explinations on why they confiscate. Most of these people appear to know what they are doing. They just throw all the prohibited items away and move on to the next.

I previously stopped watching this channel because of it and decided to try again! I guess it’s not important enough to you change even if you loose viewers!
Love the content, but the editing needs to improve. Moving too fast between different incidents is annoying; give more time for each incident to develop.
It seems weird that the narrator would keep saying that the officers were “hoping” to find wrong-doing. 🤨 Shouldn’t they be happier if they don’t encounter people running afoul of the law?

If vile idiots didn't buy them then there would be no need for the cruelty. Obviously there's a market for them.

I watched an episode in New Zealand where someone got fined double that for just two mangoes! they don’t mess around over there!

Make them swim home.
Exactly. 30 days in an Australian jail where they are fed and cared for is a vacation for them, not a deterrent.
