Hey Don, no I had not. Basically I have never painted a car before so my first couple of coats were terrible and had tiger striping SO I sanded the surface and bought a second gallon of paint and did it again. So the reality is that this car probably has 60% more paint on it than a normal paint job. As far as clear there are 4 coats so I could cut and polish it without worrying I would burn through. again, no real experience cut and polish so safe than sorry also I decided against painting the side stripes for if I did I would need more clear coat to level out the paint.
@@68mustangrestoration34 - I can feel the panic setting in as I get closer to paint. It took quite a bit of base to get the brown to cover the grey primer. 2 coats with the single stage on the jambs, 4 coats with this Omni base.
@@donsmanufactory do not panic... at the disco... sorry for the musical reference. You will be fine. In my case the metallic caused most of the problem as it really changed based on how far the gun was from the surface. Too close and the metallic flattened out and too far it did not imbed itself.
@@68mustangrestoration34 - Thanks for advise, when shooting the hood scoop I noticed a too close wet coat showed every sand scratch. Backing off the gun a bit gave a slight orange peel, stood the metallics up more like the single stage and covered the grey better. I’d better get my gun control mastered or the body will be blotchy.
I look forward to seeing something again
Been a while. Hope you are well
best of luck for your journey ahead
Appreciate it. Thank you.
Cool Wally, hey I have a question for you. Did you check your paint film thickness?
