Just installed A/C into my 68. it was a little harder than I anticipated, but well worth it in the end. Can't believe I will be riding in cold air like my other, newer vehicles. Thanks for the motivation.
Very well done video! Instructions are clear and precise, camera angles, and picture quality is perfect. Sound is clear and is easy to understand. Execellant Instructor. Probably the best instructional video I have had the pleasure of viewing! Curt Yuba City, Ca.
Ian, I finally have this kit on the way. Did you charge the system yourself? I can rent all the gauges and such needed when I get to that point, I was just curious if you did your own or have any tips. Thanks
This video inspired me and gave me the confidence to tackle a "Daily Driver" A/C kit in my similar '66 Ford Ranchero. Took me a lot longer than Ian Karr did!
great vid wish you did more vids like this vary informative, good sense of humor, and most importantly vary real. you show a real install not like the other shows where all problems are cut out. you show the everyday guy can do something like this and you don't need a $1,000,000 shop with lifts and every tool you could ever need available
Thanks, Ian. As others have said, this is a great and helpful video. I enjoyed your clear instructions and was grateful for the information and the occasional mistakes. One thing I would ask for is a shot or two after all is finished of the completed unit both under the hood and in the interior just to see it all in place. Thanks!
Thanks Dave. Great idea. Unfortunately youtube doesn't allow you to replace/update a video. LMK if you want me to email you some pics of the finished install. 3 years later and it's still blowing ice cold!
Aloha Ian , I have a 302 motor in a 66 mustang. I need crank pulley 3 bolt w/ 3 groove and a compressor brkt. And a alternator brkt w/ pulley, like your installation but i have the 302 motor, was yours with a 289 or 302 kit. Classic industries don’t have the brkts or these in there kits. Need your help. Thank you Ian and awesome video, you make it look easy !!! Aloha
Aloha Benny. I don't recall if there were special options on the kit. I think it was just the 8 cylinder kit from Classic Auto Air. Glad you like the videos!
Gonna wait until I got my first job and get paid well to do this. But now I think Ill take this over the other kit offered by CJ Pony parts which requires computer controls and the removing of the orginal heater. Plus I need to move the under dash mounted gauges anyway because the steering wheel obstructs my view of them. And I think Ill just have someone else fill it up because I wont have the tools to do that myself.
So this air conditioner can even be installed on a 65 ford mustang that doesn't already have an ac unit? I wasn't sure if you were replacing one of its an add on! Thanks so much! Kendra
That's true. I decided that this is probably a job left to a professional and not something I should encourage as a DIY. Unfortunately, UA-cam doesn't let you revise already-posted videos...
@@IanKarr Im considering the Perfect Fit Elite system from Classic Auto Air. Its alot more expensive and requires an electronic controller sure, but it works with factory climate controls and its AC AND heat all in one with more fan power than stock. I had my gagues moved up to the steering column and A pillar where they wouldnt be in the way, AND I can see them more easily. I still never got around to actually installing AC though.

Nice looking car... bet it was hard to bring a hole saw to the firewall. Like that you seem like an average joe, down to the same crappy wire crimped that I use ha. How’s the air? Worth it?
Hi Ian, awesome video. I’m pulling off the factory air stuff from under the hood of my 66. Did you have to remove the radiator entirely? It almost seems like the mounting bolts on my old condenser also hold on the radiator. Thanks for any advice!
Last time my friend tried to work on his car he did his valve cover gasket and his car wouldn’t run afterwards.. he mixed up the plug wires and when he tried to start it his muffler exploded from backfiring.. now it’s me that has to do his maintenance 😑
I had a question if you might please know. I had bought an AC kit to put on a 1966 Ford F100. it said on the modifications that a mustang kit will fit. Do you know if the harmonic balancer pulley you have to modify it or I have to get a different pulley then the mustangs. Two of the hose line up and the third one is just a little hair off if you could please help me I would appreciate it anybody.
Would this be the same type of setup for a 1965 Galaxie 500 Factory A/C w/ 289 V8 (I Think its a 1966 289 as its blue,and i think 65 Galaxie was Black/Gold?)
@@IanKarr been trying to find a system to make the factory A/C system that's already in the vehicle run without having its own separate unit. However, they seem to only make kits for pre 1965 galaxies.
@@IanKarr I've seen that, the car right now is a variation on the 65 tropical turquoise but I want something darker. I like the twilight turquoise but I want more green in it and I think yours is pretty close. I've got a 66 in the original tahoe turquoise and I like it on that car because it has the matching interior but the 65 has a black interior and I'm just not sure.

@@stevencaskey9440 Hmm. Not sure what you mean by a separate unit. If you've got a complete system in the car, maybe you just need a new compressor?
What did you do with the gauges next to the evaporator?

no relay needed?
