- HUGE 10.6M 130KG 4 Engine WW1 Bomber ZEPPELIN STAAKEN R.VI | ProWing 2023
Powered by 4 DLA 116 inline twin cylinder engines with a total weight of 130KG. This model is 1:4 scale. The original Zeppelin Staaken had over 40 metre wingspan.
Pilot Helmut Müller and his flying pals Günther and Ludwig did a fantastic job in building this awesome machine. This model took 3 years to build.
Filmed by Dom Mitchell for the 'Essential RC' UA-cam channel at the ProWing Show in Bad Sassendorf, Germany using the Panasonic HC-X2 4K camcorder.

That is one of the most impressive models I have ever seen! The sheer size of it is staggering. Thanks for finding and filming this one Dom. Awesome. Cheers!
YES I agree was great to watch
As an A&P mech and aviation buff, WWI aviation history enthusiast and having built RC planes myself - what I see here: is - well: an airplane. Not an RC airplane. It's just simply an airplane, built of same procedures, materials and all. Seemingly period true. Only SLIGHTLY smaller! I also see a hint of love.
Truly astonishing. The huge scale of this, coupled with the unusual and challenging choice of marque, with its 'pusher/puller' nacelles is brilliant. I have rarely been so impressed with a giant scale, well maybe you could say 'mega scale' model as this one. My heartfelt congratulations to all involved. Hugely atmospheric and impressive. 🌟👍
I absolutely love model aviation. I’ve built so many flying and static models over my 60 years. But at what point do you ask yourself, “with all this time, money and dedication, why don’t I just get my pilot license?” Which I did at 59. But still, I do admire the dedication of these model aviators.
This guy very well may have his license, however, there’s a minuscule chance he’ll ever get to fly one of these old German bombers (if they are even operational, probably not) hence the epic model
Not sure that's a model
I'm sure, for the German aviators of the Great War, flying the full sized beast took some damn cool nerves. Come to think of it, flying a massive model like that today is only a little less hair raising! Smooth flying is the key.
Too true! The guys who flew these monsters into combat didn’t make names for themselves like the fighter aces, but they had plenty of courage and great flying skills.
I was thinking of it from the point of view of the men in the trenches. Terrifying beauty.
Amazing! Thanks for posting. We would never see the real thing flying, so this is as good, or better, as it gets.😊
OMG - what a superb “model” - it looks like the wingspan is wider than the Civil Registered single seat Taylor Monoplane I built years ago. Awesome 👍🇦🇺
WWI tricycle gear, thats got to be VERY rare.
Wow! That's a work of art! I believe a youngster could lay on top of the fuselage and it'd probably still fly. Wunderbar!
Wow.. this is so huge 😮
A brilliant example of modelling and flying; particularly liked the crew.
Good video, thanks
An amazing piece of Aero engineering. Thanks a lot.
Byłem na lotnisku Bad Sassendorf ale ten cudowny model widzialem tylko na ziemi. Dziękuję bardzo za ten film ! 👍👋👍🛩️✈️👍
Wow what an incredible machine, she looked a little bit pitchy at times though 🤔👍
Maybe his hands were shaking uncontrollably ! Mine would have been 😆
@@EssentialRC He needs more expo 🤔🙂
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Or less. An excess will cause the pitch instability hown here in the video. Lower rates and lower speed would be my first tweaks as it will clearly fly much slower than it was.
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Aircraft with comparatively small elevator control surface need to have full deflection authority for slow manoeuvrability. In the the full sized aircraft like this with no hydraulics the Yoke stiffens up as the air speeds up over the control surfaces, in this instance the servos are just delivering as much torque as and when. This is why it gives a “pitchy” non-scale appearance when flying. If it were my model I wouldn’t use an exponent, rather a simple duel rate for any speed over take off and landing speed. You’ve got to love simplicity and arguing with Cliff. ❤😉👍🐈⬛🇬🇧
@@wearemany73 A most thorough answer, no argument from me CC 🙂👍
Замечательная посадка! Отличный пилотаж, браво!
Wow! What a aircraft. Well done and nicely flown. Yes, the pitching. Thinking it could be too much elevator throw or maybe needs some exponential.
Beautiful landing at 8:03 👏👏👏👏
WOW😳!!! What an unexpected treat. I never heard, of this WWl plane before, as it's German, and I really don't study WWl aircraft, too much. Impressed that the company 'Zeppelin', actually delved into airplanes, and not just dirigibles.
I'm with you. I hadn't heard about the Staaken before either. An awesome feat in aero-modelling this one. Glad I could film it in action.
Amazing! Beautiful model and an awesome flight!
Holy moley..... That thing is amazing! ❤
Wonderful!! I am mesmerised by this behemoths progress through the air. Even as a model.Thank you for posting
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing!! Bet he's got a big shed. Great landing.
WOW! This is the work of pure genius!! Terrific!!
What a beast! Love it!
WoW totally freaking cool beans !!! i so wish i was rich so i could totally fund a Giant scale RC shop to build crazy large planes and the first would be a 65 foot wing span H4 Hercules with 8 radials
I miss the "love the sound" posts with radials. It appears that nose wheel has some serious weight on it. Great to see it has the thrust to easily handle takeoff.
Always amazed when the "not flying scale" comments come out. This is a massive work of art, whose protection is skill, maintenance and power. A 290lbs model, I bet 40lbs is lead or more. That tail touch on landing, needs a bit more lead, like 10lbs.
I can sum that up in one word Beautiful
Wow what a beast.
That was awesome 👍
That's incredible!What a work!Sincere congrats and cheers from France !
Incredibly magnificent. Beautifully built and flown.
One of the best plane models ever ! Great video, thanks and have a Good Day !
What a monster.
Absolutely Huge, and Amazing congrats to the builders and pilot .
👍👍👍
I just played the video at half speed, even more realistic.
Amazing.
Superb detail and she flies gracefully.
Amazing
That's 1:1 size of a WWI fighter plane - like a Fokker - awesome!!!!
That is officially it, now I have seen it all. Until tomorrow. 🇦🇺👍🍺🍺
Danke !!!!!
The coolest rc airplane in the world...
WOW
It wud be Cool to Fly the Real thing.
👀 Wow , won-der-fuuuul !!
Very realistic flight ! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Absolutely brilliant model, amazing build.I see it's got a fully enclosed cockpit.I wonder why the gunners position was left exposed?.I'll say it again, that's a beautiful machine.
Awesome . What a pilot . Nice job.!
BRAVO!!! That is incredible!!!!!
Thought that the Poms had been eating Jack Beanstalk's favourite legume in tomato sauce for a bit there Dom! My (very) elderly German expat mate has his father's photo album from der Grosse Krieg. It includes several photos of these (and other odd types) at his training airfield somewhere near Pillau im Ostpruessen in 1918. 😉
Even more interesting, it also holds a photo looking straight down on St. Pauls taken from a Gotha bomber! 😱
FINALLY a scale pilot who actually knows how to fly! Looks like he needs a bit more expo on the elevator and / or a bit too nose heavy.
Notice the tail is touching, the ground after the flight but not at take off, CG has shifted due to either fuel consumption or something came loose.
WOW what a machine , Fantastic !
Beautiful plane, Greetings from mexico.
Hey Thanks absolutely awesome brother love it
What a machine! And with tricycle landing gear in WW I!
Absolutely wonderful! Good job Sir. Incredible.
thats the beauty...
Spectacular
Wow. Someone should built a to-scale dirrigible.
How lovely!
Magnificent ❤❤❤👍👍👍💪💪💪👏👏👏
Herrlich!
Pulsweitenmodulation vom allerfeinsten!🙂
I like the sound of it 😊👍
Nice. Porpoising landing indicates tail heaviness or elevator issue
The real thing was probably worse! These early giants were so heavy on the controls that it took both pilots pulling and pushing to keep them in the air.
She burned off fuel and the CG shifted, somethings up.
Superb !!!
Magnificent!
That’s Amazing……WOW👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Engines may be DLA in line twins but they are not water-cooled. The radiators are for looks only, at 0:37 to 0:42 you can clearly see that the engines are air-cooled.
Yup. Must have mis-read that somewhere.
Well done just amazing job
Masterpiece!
the original was a tail dragger. the front wheel should just keep it from nosing over
Das ist schon geil! Und auch Mal ein wirklich nicht alltägliches Modell 👍
Good enough for a film - wow
Very cool
very beautiful plane.
素晴しい!!!
Супер, класс! 👍👍👍👍👍🤝
Incredible 😮😮😮😮
Good GRIEF. That thing is bigger by quite a bit than a Pitts Special...
Am Original hat 1917 mein Großvater Theobald Schmiedel mitgearbeitet...Schön hier dieses Modell zu sehen!👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Nice!
Супер 👍👍👍👍
sound's great,
Nice 🤩
Well it's different; with the looks only it's mother/maker could love. Well done that man!!
awsome work very nice
Awesome. How does he transport it?
think with a Noratlas from the Bundeswehr..😉
Wow! I can't imagine flying in a real one. My butt would suck up the probably wicker chairs in that thing lmao.
🤯
wow
Lol… you can think it’s a maned plane 🤩
So yes, Art can fly… 😮
First thought: must be well built to keep those long Wings from warping.
incredible achievement! I would like to see how the engines are water cooled.
Holy Crap that's huge.... How do you transport that thing ?
1:17... Why is he walking in his socks...?
Possibly to avoid static electricity build-up.
😍😍😍
Kolossal !
Great vid. Bet the maiden was super scary
The flight on the Friday was scary. It had a rudder malfunction. Lucky he got it down in one piece.
😎👍
It might need an ounce or two in the nose. ; )
You could almost sit in that one 😮
It's only quarter scale of the full size apparently
@@EssentialRC its amazing 👍
