- This vid is in response to one I made in February when I was trying to come up with the most perfect minimalist travel art kit for backpacking. After using it for a solid 4 months, I made quite a few edits and improvements. I'll share what I changed, what i shifted my thinking, and how I packed it all up. At the end, I'll share prompts with YOU to help craft your own micro kits of art supplies to take with you on your next adventure.

🎹 Like the music in the background? It’s by my amazing partner Wesley Jackson. I used clips of his instrumental work in this video.
Wes is working on finalizing a new record right now but check out his archive of great stuff. 🎶

Art burrito.
You bet!!!
I LOVE the burrito ❤️
thank you! :) its silly and so useful!
Chartreuse is one of my all time fav colours, I have to get a coloured pencil in this shade omg!
It’s such a good color! So fun to have for capturing bold light!
Tombows are fun to use with waterbrushes and palettes too. Love water based media... ❤
Oh wow! I never thought to use a water brush to try to blend them! Thanks for this!!!
100% needed this! Tombow has a blender pen. I haven't used it, but one came with a set i purchased
Glad it was helpful and thanks for sharing!!! I need to pick up one of those!!
Gosh I really want to try the blendable alcohol pens, but I dont know if I have the budget to get all the colours I need! Your sketchbook pages are gorgeous, love your use of colour.
Alcohol markers are so awesome but expensive. To figure out my set I took color notes on my hikes of colors I thought I needed. Then made that as a palette in procreate to test 😅
Once I felt like there was a good grouping of them I got some! Key thing to keep in mind though is they do fade over time vs watercolor or other pigment based mediums!
I take a medium Moleskine and an art roll of 5 random (picked out that day blindly) Tombows along with a permanent pen so it doesn't bleed and go. It is challenging to go someplace and use what I have but I often surprised myself. Problem is I still find this too much. I envy those who can take more and spend time but my health issues make it difficult. I enjoy your down to earth videos.
Thank you for the kind words! That ability to surprise yourself with what you can accomplish through the simple things you have is so magic! When you say you find this to be too much as in, you feel like you still brought too much stuff?
I super understand how challenging health problems and chronic illnesses can be for making time for your work. I have long covid! Stay gentle on yourself and cherish those moments you do have to make art.
I absolutely needed this! i always bring too much and never draw because of it. im going to take this video as a sign to try making a new kit again to hopefully find what works best for me!
I'm so glad! This is exactly the goal! Hope your new kit turns out great 😊
Have you tried to add some alcohol to your markers?
I haven’t! Have you done it? What was the result?
I worry that I would end up really weakening the dye… but it might make my marker usable again!
👏☺🙂
Thanks for watching!
Just so you know the "lets shop" button on your website doesnt seem to work. Maybe you are moving things around. Anyway it doesnt lead to a shop or anything. Just so you know.
hey thanks for this! I'll get it fixed. Redesigned my whole site at the start of June so need to work out some of the wacky edges
Edit: fixed!
