ive been getting shit for the last two years for growing my hair so much. People all around me looked at me different. Im brown so i kept getting racial terrorist slurs. But like I dont care bro. I am genetically blessed with very very good thick silky hair. And am always complimented and envied for having it. And now a child who needs hair will have it.
I believe it takes a lot of self confidence to do what we do! There's going to be a lucky kiddo who gets your hair.

Good on you! The judgement is real from both inside and outside the brown community honestly. A cousin of mine was called anti-social just because he was a guy growing out his hair to donate. I'm prepping to be on the opposite side though, because of my own hair growth problems, once I cut it off to donate I'll be a woman with a buzz cut. I'll never understand why some people feel such a need to comment on other what people decide to do with their own bodies, it's not like it's harming anyone.
The salons around me are all saying the agencies that take hair are all stocked up right now, so I’ll let it grow till someone needs some. I have to disagree with your lovely wife, the long hair looked great!

my natural hair's over 12" now, but when I examine some, a single strand may have weird thicknesses that change down the length of the hair, like it'd get thinner then thicker all of a sudden then thinner again. I also dont like running my fingers thru my hair bc it feels like my hair could slice into my fingertip or something. Could my hair be unfit for wigs?

I am about to cut my hair again. Cancer runs in my family so I've spent the last 20 years in a cycle of growing and donating my hair. Originally sent to locks of love but the last several have gone to wigs for kids. It takes 3 years to get it long enough for the 12-15 inch donation. And thanks to covid this will be the longest I have given.

We've had a lot of cancer in my family too.donation to locks of love even by my grandsons who's mom had lost hair from chemo.I've had one grandson with alopecia. So thanks and because of covid my grey hair has gotten the longest it's been in decades. I'm planning on donating too fairly soon. Thanks for being a donor.
I do the same and have been since 2005 when a family member and a friend both had cancer.
I'm a man and I work construction I have hair down to my butt and I've got it caught in circular saws and fan blades that's why I decided to donate mine

I decided about 2 years ago to stop cutting my hair so I can donate it, a few months ago I was trying to buy my girlfriend some jewelry for her birthday, one of the things was marked wrong and about 600$ more than I thought, having worked in a department store I said I didn’t want it but I would put it back on the shelf where I got it, payed for my other items, put the bracelet back, and then security interagated me for 2 hours insisting I stole it and that anyone else would have left it with the cashier. Made me understood the importance of not judgeing someone by appearance
I’ve dealt with the same. I’ve been growing mine out to donate since finishing chemo. Stopped walking in my neighborhood since posts started going up on Neighbor/Nextdoor about a “homeless man walking around each morning”….😑I’m in lululemon workout clothes and jogging😑

My dad owns the construction company I work for and my hair is the reason I am not able to attend city meetings. The amount of crap I have gotten whenever going to a job site from co workers to superintendents I’ve heard it all. I’m blessed to have thick hair and Stoked to donate it once again.

Having spent a career as an Army Infantryman, its been an interesting experience growing my hair out, to donate to a good organization for kids.
You hit the nail on the head, what a pain in the arce! But you can’t beat the motivating point of doing it.

My hair's grown to 20 inches and has stayed at that limit for months now, so I thought now would be a good time to cut off a good 14-16 inches to donate. Your video is the first thing I saw during my research, and I'm so thankful for it! You explain everything so well, and your hair is absolutely gorgeous! It's a shame that your wife doesn't like your long hair, but hey, preference is preference. Her opinion is hers, while your hair is yours. Thank you for sharing your story and the hardships you and other men go through when you grow out your hair. Just crazy how judgemental people still are in the 21st century.

And being a little boy everyone tells him you need to cut your hair you look like a little girl and my son proudly says I'm donating my hair! He doesnt care what people say hes a awesome little boy.

Hey man thanks for this information really helped me, My older sister had leukemia when she was young i remember walking in on my mom cutting my sister's hair and my sister crying begging not to cut it. As a little kid i didn't know why we were going up Disney land/ Universal studios when we were poor growing up in the streets of rough neighborhoods in Chicago with at the time my dad was constantly abusing my mother it was hard. When i found out it was then i realized i had to protect the woman around me; She was constantly bullied for it and of course i stood up for her even at the same time i was getting bullied but i refused to let them do my sister like that, i earned respect of those older kids. She survived Thanks to God i still have her with me, that moment of her losing her hair always stuck with me even as a 29 year old man today. I told myself im gonna make sure i help girls never feel that pain and sadness; my son asked me why i was growing my hair and when he found out why so did he. I feel now it is my duty and I'll probably keep doing till i can't no more, i get dirty looks n often talked about but i don't care deep inside me and God know. Sorry for dumping all this but i feel like people need to know sometimes there's pain/ history behind someone's hair especially now i have a daughter and it is true it's important to them God bless man 🙌🏽

Thanks for the info. I've been growing my hair out for a little over a year after my departure from the military, and I'm at about 13 to 14in respectively. Some is short as 10 and a half. Thanks so much for this video! I've been letting my hair grow since Covid started and am ready to donate. First time in my 56yrs I've ever had long hair unless you count the sweet mullet I rocked in the late 80's. I really appreciated your acknowledgement regarding the difficulties an active male with long hair faces and the judgements they receive even in this day and age. Amen to that brother! The instructional section regarding how to cut it was extremely helpful too. Wish I would have known about the beard thing before I scrapped mine but good to know in the future.

double ps your message to men donating hair means alot, im a guy and it's been a bit much but i still wanna do it. for the dangerous machinery just have you hair in a bun under a cap or beanie, it's greatly minimized. That's my hair 24/7, I only deal with my long hair when it's shower time. That's whats saved me, without hair ties and buns I couldnt do this.

I donated my hair the first time when I was about 14-16 and I remember tying it in a ponytail and cutting it that way, now I learned my mistake. Now, I'm almost 30 and have grown it again for 5 years. I'm going to miss my hair but I'm also glad that I'm cutting it since having long hair is annoying 😅 Definitely not the last time I'm going to donate.

What a great video explaining the process. My local salon said they don’t perform the donations and all, that I do it myself (they probably didn’t know I was a guy who has 0 confidence in anyone around to section and cut hair like that! Or that they could call it a haircut and give me my hair back) I’ll keep looking around for a place that is more in tune with the process, in the meantime it’ll just get longer 👍🏼 Thank you

You can't believe how appreciative I am that a man has created this video. And not some slicker that has never worked outside. I'm an industrial electrician. These locks of mine have braved the elements, diesel fuels, oil and blistering winds of scorched dessert here in new mexico. im proud to say my hair is an average of 24 inches. My youngest has never seen me with my regular high and tight.
And P.S. The dirty looks from other folk come from the guys who check you out and catch a glimpse of the beard and start questioning their life choices.

Great vid! Thank you for enlightening everyone on the burden long hair is for men and relating it to other injustices. Very powerful. I have been growing mine, enduring the challenges for about 2 years now. I am a metal head and want to create a very similar video for my channel in the hopes of encouraging more musicians to do the same. However, I have heard lately that synthetic hair technology has improved so much that patients are asking for it over real hair now. 🤷♂️

I took 5 years to grow my hair out. 4.5 years ago I donated my hip-length hair to hair we share after I got married. I am hoping that this fall it will be that long again so I can again donate it. I like the idea of matter of trust taking hair of any length, my husband likes to keep his hair short because it is very thick and too warm in summer, since I do his hair at home often, we could save it up and donate it when we get a good amount. Thanks for doing this video!

@@FarmDad My secret to keeping it from being a tangled mess is braids and buns. Since my hair is fine and straight, once it gets below shoulder length it tangles in seconds!

I have to tell you....You did an absolute excellent presentation with this video.
I had Multiple Myeloma and back in 2015 did a Stem Cell Transplant. I was starting to lose, and honestly, felt like I looked like a new born bird growing hair..so ...so my sister went ahead and shaved my head.
She was a Cosmotologist for 50 years.
I did not mind being balls b/c I thought I had a pretty shaped head.
Wore scarfs tires like the 20's. Loved them.
Then my hair started coming back. I LOVED IT. Honestly, Good let it come back so very curly and it was cute!!! Then, it kept growing...I had it cut a couple of times but did not like it.
So, over time I decided to let mine grow it. It's been growing and growing.
However, I had Covid which caused my hair to really thin out.
Now it's still grown. Because it's not even on the end and needs to be trimmed up..I think now, Lord willing, I'll just trim it and maybe let it grow longer to have more hair to work with.

Man you are right people really do treat you differently from short hair/clean shaved than long hair or with a thick beard. It’s actually really a shame for society cause there’s people and places that have only known me with short hair or without a beard, the next time I may run across them with long hair/beard they see me as a different person. Also when I’ve grown my hair I usually meet someone realest people I otherwise wouldn’t have. I remember reading some cultures believe hair is a persons power. I’ve lost track over the couple years and remembered why I started growing my hair out and it’s good to know the best organizations for hair donation, thanks!

My son has not gotten a haircut since the pandemic hit. He has never liked getting a haircut, so for him it was ok. He has beautiful wavy hair, about 12' long. So now with the new school year he wants to get a haircut & donate his hair. So many people get him confused with a girl even with a baseball hat on. Other people have made comments that I'm confusing him by allowing him to grow his hair like a girl. It's like we have to tell them he wants to donate it for a good cause. He has even gotten bullied at school. My son has a big 💙 & he wants to help in any way possible, thats why he wants to donate his hair. Thanks for explaining the different organizations.

My hair is 19inches I really want to help kids or anyone going through cancer. My dad is currently battling cancer rn, so I know what's it's like. Shaving his hair off, was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. So I can't imagine little girls or adults losing their hair. I was a Beautiful Lengths donor for years. My 12 y/o son grew out his hair and chopped it off Dec 2019. We went Locks of Love that time since that's when I learned then about the closure of the Beautiful Lengths program. His hair is back to his shoulders to do it all again. I just chopped my hair, 14 inches. I went a year longer than normal due to the pandemic. I chose Children with Hair Loss this time. My husband has also donated his hair in college and currently has long hair. There's always lots of hair in our house.

I'm a guy about to donate for the 6th time and I'm glad I came across this video because for the first time in my life since I started letting my hair grow long, I'm actually tired and irritated by how long my hair is. Lol. It's unfortunately not long enough to donate to Wigs for Kids again but I'm glad I've found other options.
In regards to the "problem" of being a guy with long hair, it's not THAT bad. You can always braid it to tame it. Lol. My hair goes all out though when I'm at metal shows. Let that hair flow and headbang!!
In regards to being judged for the long hair, thankfully I haven't really experienced that (that I know of). Maybe it's a geographical thing? I'm not on a farm. I live in the city in southern california. But perhaps if I did go somewhere more rural, maybe I would get the weird stares.

Just cut my 8 year old daughters hair today. 😭😭 It’s never been cut, never had any heat tools used and her longest piece was 19 inches. She wanted to donate it so before I cut it, I looked up what to do and now I just need to know where to send it so thank you for this video!!

10:20 Bro, the struggle is real. I had to resort to getting a face cover, gaiter, type thing and pull it up over my hair as a make shift hair tie type deal whenever I play basketball at the gym lol
