i've had my AT2020 with a scarlett solo for the past 3 years now (the solo is very similar to the 2i2) and never really knew what to do with both and didn't really want to watch a full hour long video on setup, so thank you so much for this quick and easy to understand video!

THANKYOU! I recorded some awful demo's on a 12 quid Trust Microphone and OBS and have been offered several VO jobs. Spent 48 sleepless hours checking out options for my £300 budget and due to this video's excellent advice I am venturing into VO work. Nabbed this kit plus some extra bits for £245 all in. I'm so excited. I'm bloody 50 and excited!
YOU HELPED ME GET EXCITED AT 50! Subbedydubbed.
EDIT: You have another video stating the Shure SM58 is a better microphone, but I chose the at2020 as I believe it will be better for purely Voice Over work in a treated room.

@@MrVaDelux The mic has held up very very well for my voice-over purposes. Its landed me an audition with a huge studio.
Although, when I posted this comment I hadn't realised that the Scarlett 2i2 was out of stock, so I went for the Presonus Audiobox USB 96. Its amps aren't as good as the focusrite from what I've heard, but it's gotten the job done.

Hi, I need some help. I bought the Scarlette 2i2 and the AT 2020. With a new XLR cable. I have the mic in the right position, the 48v is turned on. The problem is that the green blinking on my 2i2 starts to appear only when I'm at 90% gain. Setting it a 100% make me start having yellow blinks. I speak loud enough. I have a headset with direct monitor and I barely hear myself. Under 80% my voice is almost inaudible. Where the problem comes from? Is it the mic au the audio interface ?

I've tried everything from using a different USB port (even on different computers) to reinstalling drivers. I've also made sure that the 'Audio Technica' logo and text is facing me (so it is definitely facing the right way).
I'm going to return the mic and get another of the same to see if it ends up working, I've also ordered a new XLR cable.

I’m rocking a scarlet solo with a AT2020 and I have a quad cast s for comparison. The difference is actually very minor. In my opinion I don’t think it’s worth going xlr since condenser mics sound so similar and the price difference is quite hefty

I also have the Podmic as a comparison to hear how a dynamic mic sounds. Great questions: I started recording voiceover tutorials with a Presonus AudioBox ( currentprice.io/audiobox ) and AKGC3000 ( currentprice.io/akg_c3000 ). If you scroll wayyyyyyyy back to the first videos I uploaded, this is the setup that I used.
I use headphones more when I'm recording a group podcast, or if I'm less comfortable with the setup. If I'm using a setup that I've used a million times, I'll often skip the headphones because I'm more comfortable without something on my head. That being said, I've found the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro ( currentprice.io/beyer_dt_990 ) to be extremely comfortable and I've been wearing them more than I've worn any other headphone while recording.

I have a AT2020USB+ mic and while I love it now that I have a decent room and a better understanding of how to speak into it (yes, i spoke into the top for months >_< ), I also have been awfully curious about XLR mics (AT2035) and how an Audio Interface would be far better at managing audio levels. As much as I'd love to get them, I'm probably in no rush to upgrade from my current mic.
Either way, I appreciate the to-the-point and concise video, the live demonstration, and just high production values. It's definitely made me at ease with getting the AT2035 + Scarlett Solo... whenever I have the disposable income :P

I've had this setup for a while now, yet I can't find a solution. The audio from my PC (speakers) is playing through my Microphone, how do I fix it?

Is this combo enough for rap vocals? And also , does it give professional quality or just for begginers. I mean to ask , if it is future proof or i will need a upgrade after 2yrs

Great question. If I was looking for a mic for Rap vocals, I would be looking at a dynamic mic. My three recommendations are:
      1) SM58 - currentprice.io/shure_sm58
      2) Shure SM7B - currentprice.io/shure_sm7b
      3) EV RE20 - currentprice.io/re20-black

This is my setup... Only difference is that I have the 2nd Gen 2i2... Thinking about getting the 3rd gen... Would that be a good idea or am I good with what I have?

For my money, I wouldn't upgrade.

would these two and dt 770 80 ohm be a good combination? would you recommend?

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  3 роки тому

I think that would work well. I like using closed back headphones (like the 770) with condenser mics since some condenser mics can actually hear open back headphones.

I typically use Garageband, LogicPro or QuickTime to record the audio.

If your condenser mic has it's own power supply or battery, you can turn phantom power off.
