    Today I’m taking you guys to a brand new German supermarket called Kaufland There are many difference between a German supermarket and an American grocery store I find my favorite ketchup brand Hella Gewuerz Ketchup seems like the prices in Germany are less expensive than the United States

    I was stationed in Germany for many years and love German foods. Luckly, I live 45 minutes from Cincinnati, Ohio. There is a store called Jungle Jim's that has international foods from all the world. The German foods section is fantastic.

    My wife and I spent a total of 24 years in Germany off and on. I watched your wonderful video with tears in my eyes. We miss Germany so much. I still use my German plastic folding basket when we go shopping at Aldi in America. Wonderful people, wonderful times and beautiful scenery.

      @@nervsouly I married a German girl when I was stationed there. I got out of the Army and we stayed there for a year, but it was much harder to make it than it was in America, so we came here. I loved I there, but all those stupid laws and taxes are brutal.

      @@nervsouly nah, the states are perfectly fine as long as you stay away from big trashy cities. Living out in the country is more than wonderful and you have absolutely nothing to worry about unless you go looking for trouble, especially down south. Fool with the wrong country folks and you just may wind up being alligator bait lmao 🤣

    It warms my heart that you travelled almost half the globe to see your mom on mother's day, I'm 10years younger than you and lost mine in 2020, according to me most people don't know what they have until they lose it/them but you are special in a 👍 good way, continue the way you do, appreciate life THE MOST YOU CAN.     The prices in the Germany supermarket are much lower than here in south Florida. And Germany has the best bread and cookies. Made me hungry watching you go through that grocery store. Thank you for sharing that experience….that was awesome.

    I remember living in the Netherlands, we used to look up prices of things in .NL then look at how much they cost in .DE - even with a 100km drive, getting expensive motorbike gear was worth going to Aachen because the German sales tax was so much better (and then onto the autobahn!) - I loved this video, and your mum is a very sweet lady :)

      hahahaha this is stil the same today, i lived in Venice for a year before the pandemic and now i am back in the Netherlands. Now with the high prices in over here more people are going to Germany to shop for many things.

      I am living an hour drive away from the Netherlands. I know of people who drove to Venlo to buy coffee in bulk there as it is cheaper. And I think energy drinks too. Dont know if it is actually worth it. Never done that myself

    I'm gonna be honest, while I like the Cali videos, I find these even more interesting! Not that I expect you to move back there - but what a cool view into where you came from. FTR, my best friend Andreas in 5th grade was from a huge Deutsche family - (7 kids!) and stepping into their house after school was so cool as I was able to sample German culture, food, and language every time I entered. I still have a basic knowledge of simple German words from those days because of the immersive environment. Congrats on your YT success, you deserve it from all the hard work. Danke schön

    Great video, I grew up in Germany until I was 13, then moved to Texas. My mom is German ,my dad American but I went to all German schools and basically grew up German. So many memories in this video about candy and just other things. Thank you.

    Wow! I remember from my time in Germany seeing shopping centers just like this in Magdeberg! I have to say that German bread and pastries are far far better than the ones you can get easily in America. You CAN get good stuff here, but you have to look to find excellence, and in Germany you can find wonderful bread and pastries very easily! Thanks for reminding me of the wonderful times I spent in Germany, a truly wonderful country. Auf wiedersehen!

      Had this asked by a few Americans that I met over in Western Europe. “How and why are the cashiers allowed to sit”. I thought it was normal. (Eastern europe citizen living in the west.) only place the cashiers stand is behind the information desk when aproaching a customer or an express lane which is usually 6 or less items per customer. They were surprised and so was I.

      At Aldi's the cashiers sit. You also pay for the cart and bags and pack your own groceries. Aldi's is a German brand and owned by the same family as Trader Joe's, although Trader Joe's operates differently.

    We also had coin type trolleys here in Australia even in the 80s, but for some reason the supermarkets here stoped ysing them. But when Aldi came here in the early 2000s, they brought those trolleys back. Love Aldi by the way!

    WOW..... Mike, grocery shopping has CHANGED in Germany, since i was there, (back in the 80s, while serving in the U.S. Army ....) !! Prices there ARE cheaper, for sure .... Good for your mom !!! 👍👍👍

      Prices back in the 80s were in DM deutsche Mark so roughly x2, so yeah prices probably seem cheaper now, but no they are in Euro so not really... 😆

      Like Rudi said, it's opposite. Prices are now in Euro and not in DM anymore. Do now it's much more expensive like in the past. When we got the euro they used this chance to raise up all prices. Euro also known in Germany as Teuro. Teuro = mix of Euro and teuer. Teuer = expensive.

    One of the things I miss most from when living in the Netherlands (very close to the German and Belgian borders), is the Schnitzel. I had them from many, many places, but I believe the best one of all was from a restaurant in a German-speaking section of Belgium, the city of Eupen, at Mesopotamia Restaurant. If ever in the area of Aachen, Germany, it's worth a drive to Eupen to try them out: Aachener Str. 152, 4700 Eupen, Belgium

    They actually have those carts here in America where all 4 wheels turn. They have them at IKEA. Makes being able to navigate the tiny isles more easy.

    I was stationed in Landstuhl for a few years and absolutely loved Germany. I miss it so much. It's very clean and the architecture everywhere is beautiful. The food is amazing and the beer is the best in the world. The people were always nice and very accommodating. A truly great place.

      As a teenager there were 3 tall apartments complexes right off Landstuhl base where the Air Force families lived from Ramstein. That's where we lived in the building with green and yellow. We'd walk to the base and go to the movies and a teen center. Fun times.

    Back in 1973 I brought a case of Coors beer from California to Germany. By the time I got to Ludwigsburg I only had half a case because I had to give (bribe) some of German custom agents in order to get it into Germany.

      Panzer Kaserne ‘85-‘88. I did the opposite,
      I brought 2 racks of Stuttgarter Hofbräu back in my carry on bag.
      I rattled all the home, fortunately for me the guy at customs had been stationed in Germany too.

    I was stationed up in Nord Deutschland, Bremerhaven at the now gone Carl Schultze Kaserne from 1979 to 1981. Beautiful and wonderful people I met there. Such a great country. I hope to get back there again. One thing I always spoke about Germany was how clean it was.

      Bremerhaven is missing the soldiers from the USA - a lot of things went bad after the army left Bremerhaven. :/ I know because I lived near Bremerhaven and went to school in the 90s when the army left Germany.

    I went to small food store in Berlin, bought a couple of bottled beers, and the guy behind the counter/checkout said: do you want those beers opening? I was like..ermm sure! That wouldnt happen here in england lol Loved it in berlin, awesome vibes.

      you can buy and drink alcohol anywhere and everywhere.
      You can buy all kinds of alcohol at grocery stores, gas stations, walgreens and all pharmacies, car washes, walmart super center (inside the store, not a separate liquor store like we have in the US...the stores only sell cheap wine and beer, not strong alcohol lol),
      And to top it of., you can see small groups of people gathered inside at some small neighborhood stores drinking, talking and having fun! lol
      And yes...at the car wash too 🤣

    I moved from Germany to Canada when I was in kindergarten. The thing I remember most is the food. Still to this day when I see powdered banana milk I buy it. There is a bakery in my city owned by Germans and they sell pretzel but it’s over three Canadian dollars a piece, but I still buy them! This was delightful to watch. Vielen Dank ❤️

When I was living in Elsass, i was like really close to Germany, as a young man i often crossed the rhine river to go gas or to buy cigarettes lol ; and both my mother and sister still go shopping once or twice a month in Germany. I'm starting to miss the genuine Würstschen and I know some German-owned butchery stores hier in Canada sell some good of these Wurstwaren. Do you know some good places you could recommend ?

    Hawaii no longer produces commercial pineapple. They grow fresh for tourists and local stores. Maui Gold pineapple is the best! They no longer grow sugar cane either.

    A lot of those features we have in grocery stores in Canada. Bag your own, etc. Funny how when I went back to Holland the first place I went to was local grocery store and check out the candy aisle. What we remember the most as kids 😊

      I'ma visit Canada for the famous blueberries but America has the German grocers Aldis & we get a quarter from the shopping kart but all 4 wheels don't rotate only 2

    Having visited both Germany and US, as a Brit, I have to say that Germany is far ahead than the US in terms of quality of produce and food overall. America has a lot of choice but it's mostly tripe. Germany lacks choice but does things well.

      Agreed. I lived half my life in the USA before I moved back to the UK, and the produce in US supermarkets is horrible. Most of the produce we ate in South Carolina either came from our garden or from the neighbourhood farmer's market. The shite they sell in the supermarket is barely fit to feed animals.

      Not sure what you were shopping for or where, but the US has incredible food and loads of organic farms and produce. Most commercial supermarkets are not the best to buy fresh food from, we know that, but there are lots of independent markets which are terrific.

    We stayed in Lutzerath when we first moved to Germany. Oh my goodness, best food on the planet! We’d get the brotchen with butter and I think salami at the bakery for breakfast… so good. They always gave our son who was 3-ish at the time a big hunk of German bologna for free.
    We stayed at the Hotel Maas. We couldn’t read the menu so the manager said “no problem, I’ll make what Americans like.” Biggest platter I’ve ever seen piled high with potatoes, sausages, peppers, onion. Fantastic.

    In Australia the shopping cart wheels are the same except there is always one shopping cart (trolley) that has one wheel that doesn't turn. You always get that one, every time.

      Same in USA about the frozen wheel 🤦‍♀️except instead of 4 our buggies only have 2 swivels. 😍 I loved the loud rattling or squeaky ones tho bcz 🐢move outta the way, 🐇 don't cut the corners tight, 🏎️crazy drivers hear me in parking lot 🕊 PEACE 💜 BLESSINGS 👼

    The reason why pineapples are so expensive in Hawaii is because very few pineapples are actually grown there anymore. The huge majority of pineapples shipped all around the world are grown in Costa Rica. Even Mexico is growing a lot now.

    I’ve never ate German food or pastries, but I hear they’re good, wish they had German restaurants out here in Texas, or even a pastrie shop. I’m from Los Angeles and I really miss the food out their😏 your Mama is so cute❤️
