    I’ve become a huge fan of this guy after seeing a few of his videos. He not only does the outdoor fun and like hunting and fishing the land he’s on, but he responsibly manages the natural resources. He leaves predatory animals like harmless snakes and birds to help manage the rodents and insects while removing and harvesting only apex animals in their populations like the bigger crawfish wild pigs and gar to let the smaller ones reproduce and grow while spreading them to knew areas on his property that the wouldn’t have been in as they become ready. This guy really seems to know how to keep his land healthy and thriving.

      Yeah but it's too bad that these animals eat all the smaller plants and animals that have already been poisoned with lead, mercury, PCB, and agricultural "forever chemicals" polluting those run-off ditches out there. The bugs ingest the poison then the minnows eat the bugs then the minnows get eaten by the crawfish and by the time YOU eat the crawfish there's a thousand time more poison in them. Hell, where I live near The Great Lakes the DNR advises pregnant women to not eat ANY fish pulled from the lake. They also say not to eat fish more than once or twice a month. It is absolutely sickening to think that we've let corporations kill us like that just so they can buy another Jaguar.

    • @TheGearhorn
      @TheGearhorn 10 місяців тому +1

      I agree with you about everything other than wild pigs, those are a damaging invasive species, so much so that you can freely kill any that are on your property by law. They honestly cause a lot of problems and are not native to the area.

    Nice video. I can remember sitting on the creek bank at night, with a lantern, stick, string, fish hook and a worm. Dip it in the water for a few seconds and pulling out monster crawfish that had grabbed onto the hook. Good memories.
    One of the biggest crawfish I ever saw I found about 80 yards away from the creek. It dug a hole on the flood plane down to the water to breed in. I left that one alone.

      +The Wooded Beardsman Creek goes completely dry for a few weeks every other year. Predator fish population becomes null, crawfish crawl back out into sterile pools where they only have to compete against themselves and are virtually without aquatic predation. It makes for an interesting cycle and one heck of a crawfish harvest at times.

    This looks great! How often can you harvest like this and still maintain a strong crawfish population? I've done most of my crawfish trapping along rocky shores of huge reservoirs, so I never worry about depletion. That said, it normally takes half a dozen traps to catch as many crawfish as you did in this video (trap numbers here are limited per valid fishing license, so several of my friends and I make an event out of it and pool our catches for the boil). Now I'm jealous of your waterway and have added ownership of something like this to my wish-list!

      More like jealous, he wants to know.why his food is being fed to fish and he doesn't get any. Unless he knows what crawdad fishing means for dinner.

    I'm jealous I absolutely love crawdads. I live in Iowa and we used to have a really good crawdad population but I think the agricultural runoff has kind of done them in.

      The last time I camped through Iowa in a month I didn't see one bee, but two Monsanto plants. A damned shame. I hope the residents remove those responsible and go back to sustainable no till organic farming like their ancestors, but all them toys I see all over those big industrial farms cost a loooot of $$$.

      Ours in the Siskiyous were like cocktail shrimp and you had to catch nearly a hundred to have a bite but that was the sweetest tail meat you ever did taste, so clean. I flinch a bit at these big ol' gulf mudbugs.
