With some modifications, sure its craftable in midieval times. Has to use a cruder fuel source, a flint and steel instead of electrical components, and probably a few more that i can't think of but other than that if you draw out blueprints and get a jewler(fine metalworking skills for the mechanism) and a weapons smith together then this is plausible if you have the funds and materials needed.

But if we're talking about the present, then people will get scared shitless if they see a random person swinging that fire sword around. And would probably get shot... so yea, I don't think it's that useless, you can scare thieves trying to rob you or something...
For home defense it’s probably cool but we’re talking about HOME defense, think about the chances of accidentally burning your house down with this Though this could be used for cosplaying or something, make the blade blunt, a small safety switch/button and then go to a cosplay meeting as a crusader idk and then tell people to back up and then light up the flame, that would be like the most reasonable way to use it during this time

Not gonna lie with my small amount of experience (making furniture and such) I may end up spending some cash on my birthday to get a forging setup. Forging seems like the next logical step for my skill set, to me it looks pretty easy and fun!
Working in a machine world myself but not knowing the machinist job, I have learned it's some serious skill to do what you do. A machinist job is not easy and some of the tools you work with you have some great expertise that takes time. Awesome job b just watched this with my sons and loved it. Appreciate the time it took

@@lamproknives 1. 36 grit 2. 60 grit or; straight to rough scotch brite belt and/or scotch brite wheel (depending on the material) 3. Buff with ZAM buffing compound That's it. I generally spend the most time on the scotch brite wheel, I've found this to be the fastest way to get the desired finish.

Hey, I notice you quench tip first at an angle. I read that you have to make sure to lay it in perfectly horizontal, otherwise it'll definitely warp, because if the tip hardens before the rest, it causes uneven stress. Have you had issues with warping? And if so, would you consider trying a parallel quench?
Interesting, that makes sense. I used to have issues with warping but I now always go directly into a straightening jig (just two pieces of 2x4) after the quench to let it cool which has helped a lot. I think that with a blade like this there is enough mass that a tip first quench won't cause noticeable deformation, but with something thinner width-wise I would certainly take that into consideration. Anyways thanks for watching and thanks for the sub :)
Would making the sword have vent holes in the blade itself make it more authentic? by ejecting the flame inside the sword, the fire would escape from the vent holes, making it look more authentic and might make it useful
The creation of the sword is an amazing part to watch. It is observed that the fire only burn at the lower portion of the blade which is quite disappointing. But overall it is amazing that you pulled off this project in a spectacular way.

No, I put it low enough to be out of the way of the one-handed grip. You do have to work around it for a two handed grip tho
