Hey guys, how's it going? Chris Connor here and welcome to another episode of filmmaker reacts for my channel. Seat back, relax and lets study the filmmaking techniques as well as talk about what visual effects can be pulled of within after effects! This week we are reacting and taking a look at GET JINXED LEAGUE OF LEGENDS cinematic!

This is completely mind blowing after watching arcane
One thing most people don't notice about "Get Jinxed" is the fact that she is setting up the monkey toy in the beginning of the video in order to sleep because she can't sleep when things are too quiet.

That's also part of it but i think it's because she's also schizophrenic she can hear voices when it's too quiet.

Just a thing I noticed, the cinematic itself is more “realistic” in it’s art and style but all the effects (gun flare, explosions, smoke, etc) are all a lot more cartoonish. Just something extra.
Everything is in 3D but the effects are in 2D, basically.

I would think its Jinx's mind fictionallizing the effects in her eyes so its more fun
well it's is basically Jinx' dream so it make sense that explosions are like a cartoon. It's how she sees or perceives it in her mind.
Riot have been mixing 2D and 3D in a lot of their cinematics. Arcane has that too.
Finally, a girl that never blinks.
She blinks a few times when she`s still Powder in "Arcane". Blinking is associated with empathy.
Wait, she DOESN'T blink after the time skip? I never even noticed that...
Jinx has been my main since 8 years now, since I saw the “Get Jinxed” music video and Arcane just made me love Jinx more. The way they put into depth Powder’s character. Such a dark and fire backstory.
This song is really catchy and I can't tell how many times I've come back to watch it. Riot does awesome music videos and this is where it all started.
Jinx was also the best character to try this with, because she is pretty much insane - so you can handwave any narrative issues as "well, that's just how her mind works". And they certainly managed to introduce her perfectly. Industrial town somewhere between pretty architecture and grimy machines, impressive skyscrapers choking the light out of the alleys between them, cramped space, but many of the buildings are abandoned - and in the middle of all of it Jinx who only sees it as a playground to have her fun in. Which includes blowing it up.
I remember when this came out shortly before her character release. That was in the ~3 months I was playing League and basically all of my friends were talking about the game. Jinx and her song hit like a bomb. Everyone instantly loved the crazy girl! ... Sure, broody lone wolves and valiant heroes are good characters - but sometimes you just want to not care and have fun smashing random stuff. And that's Jinx.
this song has been a ear worm for me next to the rock part from odessy's theme.

But, isn't Piltover deploying these robots as part of their police force? I seem to remember something like that.
@@heartlessvoid2355 the piltover enforcers are humans (Cait or Vi are examples but we saw their more basicly policeman are also people in legends of runterra) there is a possiblility that those robots are actual robots but augmented peiple seem far more common.
Hard to say, the have been working on arcane for at least 5 years so that's probably why many things aren't particularly clear abaut Jinx and Vi

jinx and another champion who's likely to be reveled to be her sister, are getting an anime on Netflix this fall called Arcane, you should check it out when it comes out
Get Jinxed really hits different when you watch the first 3 eps of Arcane
a short entry on her back story,
abbandoned by her parents, taken up by a gang of wich vi and ekko was also a member, she sees vi like a big sister, and vi leaves her too, the trauma caused her to develop twin personality disorder,
wich she projects on her guns. vi her big sister joined the police force of piltover, the city, and now she causes mayhem in the city, as a scream of attention.
Her Mini gun is called Pow Pow, and the rocket launcher is called Fishbones, hence the shape ofit
fun little fact! one of the lyrics is "let's see what pow-pow thinks" pow-pow is vi (her sisters) nickname for her.
I don't know if this has been discussed, but I think one of the reasons the video was slow to start off with, with her walking down to the corridor, was to build up the introduction to Jinx for the audience. This was kind of like her introduction to the League of Legends players and it was first time a lot of people first saw her. You don't really get to meet her or see her face all that much until she turns around in the corridor, but once you do it starts building up really fast and moving along with her personality. It was probably a decision made by the product of the time or experience that Riot had at the time, but I remember being so hyped when that happened!
When you said that the video is from 2013, i felt hella old. I started playing league with the release of Jinx. And i still endure the suffering of playing league.
I'm not a lore specialist, but i remember that something in Jinx's past made her split her personality into "the good girl" and the "bad girl", she closed her good side in her bazooka and started wrecking havoc anywhere she can, in the game she often talks with the bazooka, which is reminding her of her law abiding past, i think. Basiclly, she's a maniac who loves to destroy and kill

Hey, here is the list of videos (at least most of them) that you are missing from the League of Legends universe (including a couple from their card game). Interesting. I've actually been clicking on your channel every couple of weeks because I was wondering where you were. There was usually a new video, so I figured I missed it on my sub page. Good to know it's hopefully getting sorted, as this is a great series. I already watched this so I'll drop my like, and look forward to what comes next.
I'd love to see your reaction to the original World of Warcraft and/or the Burning Crusade (first expansion) cinematics. They're oooold (2004 / 2007) but I think still hold up for what they are. Blizzard's been killing it for decades.
Then there is me who watched every single your video at least 3 times a day.

That jinx song is a classic
I recently started playing her. Landing a kill with her ult is supersatisfying and her passive (boosting attack speed and movement speed for a short period after a kill, assist, epic monster kill or turret destruction) really gets you into the character you're playing.
Maybe next time you can react to one of the cinematics for legends of runeterra or even 2 at once cuz they are pretty short. They include champions from league of legends and are pretty cool.

The 'fireworks' scene reminded me strongly of that particular scene from Fight Club - If I recall correctly it was an intentional reference, but I'm not sure.
This was the launch trailer for Jinx when she was released to the game. Even Twitter and the Homepage from LoL were painted from Jinx. Her Sister Vi was also a criminal but works now for the security in Piltover. They had a rough childhood in Zhaun. Jinx tend to get her attention to kill the boredom.
Her main weapons are pow-pow the minigun and fishbone the rocket launcher. She also uses her pistole zapper and some flame chompers (grenades). Her ult actually is one of the big rockets from the beginning called Super Mega Death Rocket!
She is from Zaun (a poor zone and "lower" zone of Piltover), an orphan who grew up in the streets with other poor children, doing whatever they need in order to survive in a toxic and dangerous city. People of Zaun use to hate the rich people of Piltover because of the contamination and toxic waste they throw to the lower zone. Jinx is, in fact, crazy. But she only blow up things in Piltover. To have some fun, she broke into the more secure bank wich was protected by those inteligent robots. And freed the exotics animals from a rich mercant's mansion (both events showed on the cinematic). She is always bringing chaos to Piltover, that is why the people of Zaun think about her as a revenge spirit.
And if you pay attention, Jinx set up the monkey to make some noise, because she is so used to chaos that she cannot sleep when there are too much silence.
Hi, please react to the RIOT "breathe - legends of runeterra" cinematic, you wont be disapointed fight wise and film techniques wise! It is insane! LoR is another game from riot in the same world as LoL

This is still IMO the best cinematic Riot has done. The mix of 3D and 2D is really cool.

If I remember right, this is what really set League up to become so involved in music and cinematics! Without this, K/DA would never have existed!

I may be incorrect on this, but from what I remember this was League of Legends first foray into animated character presentations.
Before this there had been a few CGI animations, usually with the heroes running and/or fighting to get to some nebulous objective (Ryze was always in them for some reason).
I think the things you pointed out as not quite lining up in terms of music and cinematography stems from this - Riot was trying out a new thing and were still finding their way with how to do it.
(It's also why there's no real narrative progression. It's more like a personality profile set to music.)
When the animation proved very popular, they went ahead and did more character presentations, getting better at their craft as well as dipping into more narrative animations/presentations.
And then they did the whole reset where they redid and brought together the lore and setting of LoL into something like a coherent whole, giving them more opportunities to set their character presentations into an already existing narrative context.
They still did/do fun sidetracks and experiments though, like the pop group KDA thing, or the Star Guardians themed event with a little narrative setting of its own.

However, it does appear that I ended up being unsubscribed from your channel at some point, so I Subscribed again. And finally...you hadn't reacted to Get Jinxed yet? How did I miss that?

Actually Jinx was introduced way before Harley Quinn in Suicidal Squad, but definitely had huge impact on Harley character. From visual and color scheme to character features.
Also, I don't remember if you reacted to the trailer for Arcane, the animated series coming from Riot. It's generally assumed(by me for sure) that the show will center around Jinx and her sister Vi, when they were little kids living in the slums of Zion and the alleys of Piltover. It looks like Jinx will be the sole victim of a lab explosion, resulting in her insanity.
Personally i think the contrast between her walking into a cold color hallway, vs the high energy rocket riding, is to emphasize her carefree nature more, instead of needing to be hyperactive.
She wants a thrill. But enjoys loofing while enjoying in what she did.
You gotta react to the Call to Power cinematic it's so good!
This is just Jinx's default skin. A lot of high production videos are a publicity stunt to sell skin lines, like the K/DA ones for example, but this video was to introduce Jinx as a character when she was released and the other one you saw, You Really Got Me, was introducing the mobile version of League, so they kept the base skin for every champion.
this one was insane when it came out, looks a little dated now as Riot has constantly outdone itself, but still gotta love jinx

This was the very first "music video" that riot did. It literally paved the way for things like KDA an True Damage to happen down the road.

Chris, you gotta react to GIANTS - True Damage. It's so so good and I'm 100% sure you will love it too!
Jinx is far more of a Tank Girl equivalent than a Harley Quinn personality wise, though image wise, its easy to see Harley in her.
Also, this video was how Riot introduced the character, and all the actions she does in the 'dream' are things she actually did to Piltover City during her initial run of mayhem and destruction.

@920 i dont know if it was their intent but i have always felt that the contrast between the beat and the pacing was purposeful. for me it helps convey that she is a being of chaos, who refuses to even match fully her own theme (the song) because that would be predictable and jinx is anything but predictable.
It was the first music video from Riot, so, they were trying out a new thing. One of the most popular cinematics of League to this day, you can see the insane results that followed. Jinx blew up[ ;) ] a whole new industry for modern online gaming. K/DA and all of the musical creations from Riot rose from the rubble of Jinx destroying the boring days.
Please react to Odyssey cinematic, it also explores Jinx's "fun" personality.

Okay so Jinx is crazy, orgins unknown but most of what happened in her "dream" actually happened. You see the place is Piltover and Jinx is believed to be from Zaun, the city below. Long story short; Ekko, Vi and Jinx were street kids. They were collected by a group who had a leader that would feed the kifds and once they were disbanded, they were left for dead. Vi went to Piltover to have a new life there. VI as in roman nureral 6, X for Jinx, 10, the number of kids. That's just a theory but nobody really knows where Jinx is from or if she is human(she is believed to be a malnourished human) but no idea. No confirmations. Jinx became crazy because she lost a lot of people at a young age and since she can't handle all that, she went insane and became a thrill seeking gun slingin girl she is now.
Q - switching guns from the bunny eared mini gun and the shark canon(Fishbones, yes it has a name)
W - the zap gun
E - the chomping bombs/chompers
R - The big pink rocket
I think JINX have got insperation from the MC in Tank Girl (1990 film) and Batman Hearly Quin.
