I’ve never seen “pure” childish denial and grief, absolute despair, displayed so accurately on an animated face. It was done perfectly on Powder in Ep3. The VA did an outstanding job as well, she conveyed the emotion perfectly

This is exactly how animation should be used. If animation can recreate the real world exactly, what does it add as an art form? Everything is virtual and you're limited by your own imagination--why restrict yourself to only what's real?
People always have that, "UGH!" reaction to the Firelight (insect) leaving Powder's mouth, but nobody seems to understand the meaning behind the imagery: Ekko becomes the Leader of the group known as the "Firelights," which are named after the insects called by the same name. The image of the Firelight leaving Powder's mouth, is the imagery of her losing that "Innocent" and "Virtuous" mentality that might have lead her to be in that same group, along-side her childhood friend. Rather than the two of them ending up as unfortunate enemies.
funny fact, i never thought it was gross, because everything she has lived, and she is passing thru, is way worse, and once you feel like that, the only thing that matters, is why you are still not dead. yet, why dont try.
something to add, once you feel like you not only hate yourself, and your past as a whole. you are lost. and if you still smile, you are empty, and once you are empty, you try to fill yourself however you can, (and coming back to the meaning i have to the firelight coming out of the mouth, there it went she's last hope in her reality, (the start of her schizophrenia as a try to protect herself))
now, people have 3 reactions when they are in that point, fight, escape, or ignore, she ignored and escaped for so long, and felt useless for that reason, so she is now pushed to fight (and then THAT happens, so after she see's that when she fought something changed, (way more than she wanted) she keeps fighting, even when not necessary (vi keeps in this state) and now that her reality is that she lost everything, there's no other option than fighting (plus her schizophrenia is now the jinx we all know and love))
@@unknowndane4754 most reactors are probably keeping it safe because of how bullshit UA-cam is. Depending on the show people still get hit when they use 10 min or less.
One bit I noticed that I haven't seen anyone talk about yet: When they show Vi, then Powder and even Ekko 'shadowboxing' in the Alley: Vi's moves are quick and effective. And she keeps her balance. She clearly has a lot of practice. Powder overreaches a lot and is hopping on one leg more often than not. She has no idea what she's doing. Ekko's scene is too short to really comment on it, but he's better than Powder.
Man, if you thought the subtle, raw facial expressions were animated incredibly in this music video, the show would completely blow you away. Arcane uses silence so unbelievably well, allowing for the characters to communicate entire scenes with nothing but their expressions. No other animated show has ever really had the animation technique or budget to _really_ utilize moments like those. If you're someone who really notices when a project does something different with the medium of animation, Arcane will be like a smorgasbord for your eyeballs. It's a game-changer.
This is such a huge fact. Ive played league of legends for 13 years. My ass has the stupid King Rammus skins. So THIS?! This felt like league CAME ALIVE! Bein a adc main and jinx bein one of my 100% favorites, hell her and vayne was the entire reason I made it to diamond the first time. And seeing all of this become what this is? I couldn't be happier
Another tiny detail that amazes me is at 17:25, the shadows behind each age of Jinx/Powder is the next character. The first one has the higher piece of hair on the right, and the youngest/2nd one has Jinx's hair as her shadow
The style used here is how the entire show is animated and it even innovates further during certain scenes. If you want to handle the show I'd love to see you react to the whole thing, but if you can't then you could pick out specific scenes to talk about
the coolest thing for me is that all of the scenes in this music video are unique and not just cutouts from the series there are few ones that are similar (like powder sitting at the bar) but they are still different in details so much work and love put into it its just unbelievable
The animation studio of Arcane (and majority of the best trailers of LoL like Rise, KDA, warriors) is Fortiche. 3D modelling with 2D textures, no motion capture. Every facials expressions are handmade.
As a photographer one of the very first things I noticed when I started watching arcane is their use of focus and depth of field. Oftentimes animated scenes either have everything in focus or a slightly blurred background with all characters being perfectly in focus. When filming or photographing live action that isn’t how it works. I have photos I have taken where I set my depth of field to be too narrow and the face I shot ended up with their eyes in focus but their ears were blurry. Arcane does exactly this with their depth of field and focus. It is absolutely amazing.
I love how every frame of the show and the music video look like a mix media painting. The blend of 3D and 2D art techniques is the best, especially when something explodes or there is gunfire. The explosions look so cartoony and abstract like pop-art prints, while the characters and backgrounds look like an oil painting with the smooth blending and the subtle paint strokes in the hair or trees. The whole show makes my artist brain extremely happy and I really want to try and use those same techniques in my own art.
Bruh I watched the vid like a dozen times in the past week and not once did I catch that, and this guy just points it out his first viewing LMFAO legend
Arcane is probably the best looking animated anything I've ever seen. Spiderverse set a bar, and Arcane blew past that. I'm going to be unfairly comparing all future animated things to Arcane now
I LOVE how expressive their faces are - you can really tell the exact emotion the character is feeling at just a glance/with no context, something art forms like anime cant do nearly as well.
I think this art-style is the natural evolution from cell-shading like in Borderlands or any of the Telltale games. Also, 100% agree about the subtle changes in facial expressions and movements. There is so much effort put into every single second and it doesn't feel like many other shows where only the main characters move but people in the background are just sort of there, frozen in place or repeating motions.
I’d kill to see a reaction and analysis of the scene where Jinx lights up the flare. That scene is definitely a work of art as well as the music playing “Guns for Hire”
You noticed the three frame cut when she shot the finger gun, but you should check out the two frame cut at the end of the scene where the Firelight bug crawls out of her mouth. I love when they add these little details everywhere. Also, you were wondering how they made this. It's 3D models and they have hand-drawing on top.
Without a doubt Arcane was tremendously brutal both in animation, history and music, in addition to other highlights of the 10/10 series. Taking advantage of that, the music video for Valorant by Riot games also came out and it would be good to see it, it's very good.
This is also one of my favorite series on Net Flix right now. I love how fluid the animation is, it's like watching real people move around, and that takes so many frames to pull off. It's such a beautiful art style, I've tried about 5 times to get my boyfriend to watch this with me and he won't even give it a shot. He doesn't know what he's missing out on. Anyway! I agreed with everything you had to say about this show. I'm so happy you made this video and took the time to really LOOK at the things to so many probably overlook. Amazing!
I have never really been a fan of animations but this show went to a whole new level. This animations is amazing good and well done. This show is sooo good and the music is lovely. Everything about Arcane is great and extremely well done.
Being following you since the very begining and as a fan this show is 100% something you should/must react to. It has established a whole new level of artistic quality. Plus there is no reactors around with the knowledge you have of the medium that is willing to make an artistic analysis/deconstruction of it. Would be something unique.
There's TBskyen, he makes videos about animation and character design (also mainly about LoL) and he made some animation breakdowns for Arcane and a reaction to full series. So that's also someone to check out
This style of animation does weight like no other. It's very visceral. It's crazy how a series called "Arcane" looks like it was done by the developers of dishonored: Arkane Studios.
its like animated concept art... and i personally have always loved that style so this series is just a blessing to me, and the writing is decent too. an absolute win in my book tbh
Rather than a reaction to Arcane, I think an analysis of the entire season from your perspective as a filmmaker would be more interesting. There is a lot going on in Arcane from the technical and artistic perspectives that could be explained, analyzed, & commented on and I think your time would be better spent analyzing it as a whole rather than just reacting to each episode.
you've lost the part when the moth leaves her mouth, she also becomes the older version of herself (Jinx). I love the reaction you have with Jinx, she is my favourite champion along with Miss Fortune!
Animation aside (which is just. Incredible). the cinematography/camera movemensta and angles are just fabulous to watch and experience, with "over the shoulder" shots like the one at the start to the rotoscope and moving shots which only adds to the style and the atmosphere of the show. Major props to everyone involved.
The only thing that can be considered as a problem with League of Legends is the game itself because I love the story, a love their other games, I love the art stile, the music, the characters... They made something really BIG but League itself is became too competitive and toxic. ( This is from someone who played hours of LoL and all the other games from Riot )
The animation is sooooo beautiful, I loooove all the emotions on the face, the micro emotions, the visible hesitation and natural sway of the human bodies when they're just "standing still". A work of art, it's so gorgeous!
I hope you watched Arcane by now. Its a masterpiece. Look I dont even like LoL but arcane is probably the best show Ive ever seen, animated or otherwise. (ep. 9 has a 9.9/10 rating on IMDB)
I love videos like this, to see the work and effort behind the story. Especially with a great story as Arcane has, seeing things through another's eyes really give appreciation for the effort put into the artwork.
I literally cannot stop watching the music video/edits/analysis vids/the show. every aspect of it is just so damn good. my fav scene of the video is definitely at 4:33 in your video where the music shifts back and it has the shot of powder/jinx yelling UGH its literally so good. I would not be able to make something like this but I get addicted to watching it and watching people break it down.

the style is just amazing one of the best animated series i have seen in a super long time really hope they go to the moon with it how the series continues personally still find animation superior to live action just the way you can animate it tho ofc not always
This song fits really good with this amazing film that is Arcane. It just has really the best animation I've seen in a while besides the Spiderverse. I think Arcane really solidified animation and hopefully another animation studios will follow suit and do the same for 2022.
I almost never have seen debate about a certain expression's meaning in an animated show . It rarely comes up about life action. But the fact that all of the facial expressions are so realistic and nuanced let's expressions have multiple meanings at once , therefore letting you think more about certain motives that a character might have . Absolutely beautiful show .
Believe me man, I might've stumbled upon your video by chance, but the pure hype and excitement I saw in your face when you saw the animation was mutual. I'm a designer by profession and all I could wait for the next episode to be released as soon as possible. Thank you for sharing your hype with us Chris. It really makes people like us not feel that we are different and nerds. We just view animations at a different POV than others who don't take that seriously.
Yes dude! Arcane really did something to me, its a long time since im so hyped about something. You got my Support on a reaction. The Animation, the writing, the music, just everything. 🤯🤣
Hello Chris, I’ve returned once again on day 6,489 of requesting the Warframe Prime Trailers specifically Valkyr, Banshee, and Nekros or really just all of them since they’re masterpieces of teaser trailers
One of the things I've noticed which nobody else seems to really notice is how everything is flashbacks or images of her mental state, whenever you get a close up of little Jinx reacting to Ekko tripping or to Vi pushing her over she's always sitting at the bar
You can do a reaction to the entire series, you just can't show entire episodes on screen so you have to hide certain parts. Other channels have done it as well
The best part of riot animation. Is they adapted the skipping animation style. In a lesser scale as spiderman into spider verse. The skipping frame make it somehow depressed and suit incredible well with that tragedy asmosphere.
also a little but cool detail: the way Vi is standing while demonstrating some fighting moves, they totally had somebody who knows martial arts to consult them because it is very correct: her body weight is centered and feet stable, meanwhile she is still relaxed. I just know martial arts a little so i find it cool, as i payed attention to these details in particular on purpose
With regards to Arcane, I'd suggest watching it on your own, then noting down scenes and details that really grab you. Within one of your reacts episodes, you could then do a mini-review, go over details you noticed (with stills), and break down the scenes you've recorded. Whilst I appreciate that everyone wants to see everyone they can react to the series, your reaction style of watching then going scene by scene in analysis only works with a full-length series (of nearly an hour per episode) if the initial reaction is done at your own pace and time, which would be too long for youtube.
The best way to do Arcane the show would probably be to watch it and do a review of your fav sequences/scenes and go that route, instead of having to react to all 9 40 min episodes
I love the expressions because in animation they usually give them ‘cute’ grief and other emotional faces but here they give them kinda ‘ugly’ and I mean that in the best way possible
Omg I actually understand that making trailers and all this stuff with scenes suited to the beats is so close to me. I can feel everything that you say and I notice all these little things (like with exposure and camera effect of shaking and focusing). I really want to work in this sphere and study for this in the university. But I don’t know what is this profession calls like (not filmmaker but exactly someone who works with something like creating such trailers etc)
The dedication of the studio for like 3 minutes of a music video is absolutely stunning, most of the scenes were actually original and not in the series. I blows my mind how animation has evolved through the years. The video really shows the split in Jinx's character, and I never noticed the finger gun change... very very subtle and absolutely stunning. I want season 2 very badly, but you can't rush perfection. As much as I hate waiting, it will be worth it.
The style looks like a drawing. Not moving because if the type of colouring. You can see all the brush strokes, that look like paint. Whereas usual animation is either blurred or flat/ blocky. It is truly amazing style of animation.
Jinx/Powder is schizophrenic and has PTSD her symptoms of schizophrenia is transparent. The animation is incredible too. Jinx/Powder class type in league of legends, and arcane is actually a Marksman. I forgotten what weapon she uses because I have issues with memory loss. I have insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea. Basically a Marksman is when the champion in league of legends, or character in Arcane attacks the opponent from a close, and farther, and far ranges. Caitlyn and Jinx are both marksman. Vi is a finger in league of legends and arcane if you observe the way she fights. Because she wears a certain mechanical glove and relies on using her body weight for fighting hand to hand combat. Also as an artist that does mix media art. When animating it takes a lot of mental energy especially for every artist too. It goes from the structure and proportions it should be messy, and build it up to a clean sketch, line art, base colors, layers, rendering and details, and the final product. In animation, animators use the color red or blue for showing dynamic and expressed poses, and emotion it’s better than using regularly lead color artists use when drawing on paper in gray, when it looks more interesting in red or blue. When improving art skills it should always come first before anything, and I’m in progress of sharpening my art skills before I put anything in my Art portfolio for art school for only artworks I feel proud of or appreciated.
After watching Arcane this song has a whole new meaning and you understand more the song and it’s so cool! Like urgh I love Arcane so much and the animation is just chef kiss

now, people have 3 reactions when they are in that point, fight, escape, or ignore, she ignored and escaped for so long, and felt useless for that reason, so she is now pushed to fight (and then THAT happens, so after she see's that when she fought something changed, (way more than she wanted) she keeps fighting, even when not necessary (vi keeps in this state) and now that her reality is that she lost everything, there's no other option than fighting (plus her schizophrenia is now the jinx we all know and love))
I'd recommend you record your entire reactions, then cut each episode down to 10-15 minute videos of your favorite scenes to avoid copyright strikes
Yep, many youtubers are doing that.
As far as I can tell Riot encourages people to post their reactions to the series, so i'm not sure if they would strike him
@@raffles1773 riot tends to be fine with people using their Stuff, question is if Netflix is more tigger happy (and the songs in the show)
@@raffles1773 There's been a few copyright strikes with creators I watch so idk about that, not sure which company gave out the strikes though
@@unknowndane4754 most reactors are probably keeping it safe because of how bullshit UA-cam is. Depending on the show people still get hit when they use 10 min or less.
One bit I noticed that I haven't seen anyone talk about yet:
When they show Vi, then Powder and even Ekko 'shadowboxing' in the Alley:
Vi's moves are quick and effective. And she keeps her balance. She clearly has a lot of practice.
Powder overreaches a lot and is hopping on one leg more often than not. She has no idea what she's doing.
Ekko's scene is too short to really comment on it, but he's better than Powder.
That's animation's magic !
(We noticed bc it's amazing !) ^^
lmao
That's kinda the point
he actually falls down, he is geeky at this age and not agile. i got that he was worse than powder
Why would anyone talk about this when it's so obvious? Like that was literally the point of those scenes.
I literally just noticed this for the first time tonight and freaked out! Such a cool detail, and so tiny!
The style used here is how the entire show is animated and it even innovates further during certain scenes.
If you want to handle the show I'd love to see you react to the whole thing, but if you can't then you could pick out specific scenes to talk about
the coolest thing for me is that all of the scenes in this music video are unique and not just cutouts from the series
there are few ones that are similar (like powder sitting at the bar) but they are still different in details
so much work and love put into it its just unbelievable
The whole show makes my artist brain extremely happy and I really want to try and use those same techniques in my own art.
the whole series is a masterpiece, both in terms of art and storytelling
I would love you to react to the whole series or at least some important scenes :)
The jinx vs ekko scene please its freaking awesome
@@angelgarzon4857 i agree but my favorite scene is when jinx kills pretty much everyone on accident. I loved the emotion in the scene!
duuudeee your reactions are so expressive and always noticing the minor details like in 3:40 . keep it comminggggg 💯
You can also see Old Jinx (the Small Jinx's name is Powder) in the bug scene! It's only a frame, so it's even more subtle than the finger gun one
6:20 is microexpression, it is taught in animation, but it used to require much more time to animate, but now it is more affordable to animate
A small detail that i love is how you can feel the weight of every one of vi's punches which is so difficult to replicate in animation
It's crazy how a series called "Arcane" looks like it was done by the developers of dishonored:
Arkane Studios.
I like how he calls her “Lil Jinx”🤣
The animation of this series set a new bar. I hope you do reactions to the episodes.
its like animated concept art... and i personally have always loved that style so this series is just a blessing to me, and the writing is decent too. an absolute win in my book tbh
Thank you for reacting to this!! I was so excited when I saw you hadn't so I'm so glad to see this!!!
the way the characters move in the animation is amazing, espicially when J.I.D. appeared, his movements were 1:1 to real life
Rather than a reaction to Arcane, I think an analysis of the entire season from your perspective as a filmmaker would be more interesting. There is a lot going on in Arcane from the technical and artistic perspectives that could be explained, analyzed, & commented on and I think your time would be better spent analyzing it as a whole rather than just reacting to each episode.
Why not both? He could react to Arcane and then provide an arc review from a filmmaker perspective as if he watched a week of footage and studied it.
EVERYTHING they've done for this series has been a masterpiece via visuals and music
you've lost the part when the moth leaves her mouth, she also becomes the older version of herself (Jinx).
/mute all
I feel like they focus too much on their music and advertisements than the actual game and the community
As an artist, while watching the series, i can't focus on the story- I just stare at the animation, it's just so good!!!
V vcxx
I literally cannot stop watching the music video/edits/analysis vids/the show. every aspect of it is just so damn good. my fav scene of the video is definitely at 4:33 in your video where the music shifts back and it has the shot of powder/jinx yelling UGH its literally so good. I would not be able to make something like this but I get addicted to watching it and watching people break it down.
Arcane fue la mejor serie del año y sus números son increíbles , historia animación música es fantástica y creo que tendrías que verla ya sea reaccionando o no , saludos desde Argentina 😊
I agree with him so much this is 6 years of work into one 100/10 show
If you look at the lights at 13:57 you see the pink and blue lights sitting in the background like jynx and Vi
jynx
Arcane is pure art, the acting, the animation, the storytelling. it's all insanely good.
the style is just amazing one of the best animated series i have seen in a super long time really hope they go to the moon with it how the series continues
personally still find animation superior to live action just the way you can animate it tho ofc not always
Someone on the team said that 4 seconds took like 10 days or something.
And you can tell. You can REALLY tell.
This song fits really good with this amazing film that is Arcane. It just has really the best animation I've seen in a while besides the Spiderverse. I think Arcane really solidified animation and hopefully another animation studios will follow suit and do the same for 2022.
I just love the fact that he calls Powder, "Little Jinx"
React to arcane, that would be awesome.
If not reaction then a review would be epic!
the sheer amount of character development and foreshadowing in this short is insane
Jinx: my monkey bomb worked 😀😃😄😁
Also jinx: my monkey bomb worked 😵😭😭😭😫
I almost never have seen debate about a certain expression's meaning in an animated show . It rarely comes up about life action.
But the fact that all of the facial expressions are so realistic and nuanced let's expressions have multiple meanings at once , therefore letting you think more about certain motives that a character might have .
Absolutely beautiful show .
I would love to see your reaction to Arcane. THE art and style are really unique! If you enjoy the detail in the animation, You should really see it!!
14:25 oh damn I didn't notice that! That is so cool!! No wonder a pro filmmaker noticed it right away!
React to the whole series! The music and voice acting is top tier.
i love just HOW much you catch about what is going on in the animation so quickly!
Other channels have done it as well
Whoa, 1M views already? Your moving up in the world man
Love your videos and how informative you are! Plus HUGE fan of Arcane!!
5:00 where it’s jinx and all the bodies drop and it switches back to powder is the coolest part of the video by far IMO
Arcane is a masterpiece.
The best part of riot animation. Is they adapted the skipping animation style. In a lesser scale as spiderman into spider verse. The skipping frame make it somehow depressed and suit incredible well with that tragedy asmosphere.
Video starts at 1:47
Sick video and animation. that serie was AMAZING
Yeah that cool
also a little but cool detail: the way Vi is standing while demonstrating some fighting moves, they totally had somebody who knows martial arts to consult them because it is very correct: her body weight is centered and feet stable, meanwhile she is still relaxed. I just know martial arts a little so i find it cool, as i payed attention to these details in particular on purpose
Ekko is just such a encapsulating character with his personal story and character design, almost makes me to play LoL
I can watch that video 100 more times and still get goosebumps
The best way to do Arcane the show would probably be to watch it and do a review of your fav sequences/scenes and go that route, instead of having to react to all 9 40 min episodes
I love the expressions because in animation they usually give them ‘cute’ grief and other emotional faces but here they give them kinda ‘ugly’ and I mean that in the best way possible
The day, the arcane trailer dropped, Fortiche got a phone call from Pixar congratulating them for their outstanding work.
Such an eye you have. I didint see the moment when she is pointing to the enforcers, and powder shitch just for a frame into jinx. Goosebumps.
4:38 nobody really noticed this but a really cool touch to this animation is how jinx words out sympathy as it’s being said
The dedication of the studio for like 3 minutes of a music video is absolutely stunning, most of the scenes were actually original and not in the series. I blows my mind how animation has evolved through the years. The video really shows the split in Jinx's character, and I never noticed the finger gun change... very very subtle and absolutely stunning. I want season 2 very badly, but you can't rush perfection. As much as I hate waiting, it will be worth it.
That timing of Oh, come on. Is just perfect with the song
I fuckn loved the music video and love arcane s1…… can’t wait for S2 and 3 an so on!!!! An more music videos like this! Keep up the good work!!!!! Woot!
I gave this video a like for the pure fact that he didn't pause the damn video
usually that's so people won't miss certain things and can actually talk about it in detail, what's the harm in that
Love the close up of Jynx where it's just her eye at 4:36 she syncs with the lyrics at the same time when she changes
ARCANE is on fire! So amazing.
"My Monkey Bomb finally worked!" Love Episode 3
