    OLD FASHIONED APPLE CRISP
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Lightly butter 13" by 9" baking dish. Set aside.
5-6 cups tart apple (about 4 medium size Granny Smith apples), cleaned, peels and sliced
    1 cup sugar
    3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
Add slice apples to large bowl. In a small bowl all sugar, flour and salt. Whisk well. Pour over apples and toss until apple slices are coated. Add to preheat baking dish.
    Topping:
    1-1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    1/2 cups butter, melted
    1/4 cup pecan, chopped
In a small mixing bowl add ingredients and toss well. Evenly pour over sliced apples.
Bake 55 minute or until bubbly around edges.
    Serve & ENJOY!!

I have this recipe in the oven.I used my uncle's Mc intosh apples from his tree in his backyard .They are very tiny apples and I couldn't finish them because the bugs left a few marks to them .So I washed dried peeled and I didn't have pecans so I used roasted almonds with raisins only on the top.I have walnuts but I got lazy to crack them ,I was too eager to put these apples in the oven .I will let you know how it turned out. My son is bringing French vanilla icecream tonight .I'm crazy for apple crisp and your recipe is so simple and nice.

Not going to share this one with everyone else. I mean it was just super good and the topping...well, why bother with a crust? The portions were just right for a delicious apple crisp with lots of topping. Added walnuts as that's what I had. Cannot wait to share some with my brother tomorrow!!!! Thank you, Deronda!

Can this lovely recipe be made with other varieties of apples? I've got what look like Fuji or maybe Gala apples, more of a "delicious" type. I think they'll be fine but the real question is should I reduce the sugar to 1/3 cup on the sliced apples? I'm going to try anyway. I'll follow your suggestions and let you know how it goes. I know those Granny's are perfection for this but deez apples are all I got!

I'm making this but I'd use only 1/2 c of white sugar, since the brown sugar is so packed,I don't want it too sweet

Cara Chamberlain. If you use a sweet apple just cut down on the amount of sugar.

OR you could add a little lemon juice.

Looks good! The only thing missing is the cinnamon!

That looked really nice but......the apples.....no seasoning?? Why not a little apple pie spice? I would have used more flour and less oatmeal for the topping, maybe a little more flour with the apples so there wasn't so much juice from the apples? Just a couple ideas. Everyone likes it different I suppose, but this looked really good too. Thanks for the ideas

To keep your apples turning brown while you are preparing your other ingredients. Add just a little lemon juice. The acid in the lemon will help the apples from browning. Just a trick I learned, hope it helps you in the future.
