      @Cecile I agree. Perhaps it is advertisement. SZ is not getting younger. Vishneva & Lopatkina are busy mothers. Both Khoreva & Zacharova have the technique, but lack expressiveness IMHO. Time will tell with Khoreva. Most people are active on social media, including us (this conversation!)

    Lovely! Adorable! We are different individuals with our own good qualities and flaws in every aspect. Khoreva is a great dancer and very charismactic! Good for her as she's building her future in many ways, something that is crucial for a ballet dancer whose "active" life is so short...

    Murphey was concentrating hard on the steps it seems to me. She only showed some expression at the end, as in "whew, I did it, nailed all of the steps." It's possible this was her first go around. The other two seemed more familiar with the role.
    My favorite was Khoreva. She seemed to dance with such joy and fun.

    (DISCLAIMER, both of these dancers are amazing, this is my opinion on their dancing as a Russian trained dancer. I am nothing to them and their performances. I am not in any way trying to put them or there hours of blood sweat and tears down in any way!!!!) Osipova is an incredible dancer with some of the best jumps of her generation, however, I struggle to put her over Khoreva in the overall category. Yes, her jumps are great, and her turns are also really good (but nothing to Maria's) but her lines are simply subpar (BY RUSSIAN STANDARDS) Maria's lines and technique are literally perfection. in conclusion, both are great, but I personally prefer Khoreva as an overall dancer.

    • @katesgreene
      @katesgreene 4 місяці тому

      Also, i much prefer the original interpretation, this was obviously, for a ballet, and wasn't stand-alone, but if you're picking your variation, just pick something that suits you, don't modify something that doesn't (AGAIN NO DISSING)

  • @sarojini108
    @sarojini108 3 роки тому +13

    All three gave it their all and all have their unique interpretation. If I had to choose a favourite I’d say Osipova for those beautiful high jumps at the start and her musicality. It was a hard comparison though because of the difference in choreography: would love to know if Osipova’s version had been changed to suit her; she seemed very at home with it. Murphy started with flair and precision, however was visibly tiring towards the end ( I felt for her!) and lost her facial expression. On the other hand, I loved Khoreva’s smile and exuberance. It was a shame her costume was a bit busy as I found it distracting. Osipova’s costume was a little too “Western” for the part perhaps. I thought Murphy’s tutu was the best combo of exotic and traditional- just mho though, I thoroughly enjoyed all three performances.

  • @levondelite4072

    I loved Gillian Murphy in this variation. She was beautiful and smooth, even during her triple pirouettes. She just edges out Khoreva, but they both are more pleasing to me than Osipova . Don’t get me wrong, Osipova is wonderful, but I prefer the original choreography. I think it’s more difficult than what Osipova did, though I’m sure others may disagree.

    It is actually not always on the same place and so, somewhere hard to compare. Sometimes the Odalisques are on the slave market , sometimes they are a part of the Pasha's harem. I think this is also influencing is pas de trois, whether it is more lighthearted or not.
    1) is ABT; 2) Mariinsky; 3) Bolshoi ??

    • @conniemandler2001
      @conniemandler2001 2 роки тому

      @Felicity Good points. Whether they are in Pasha’s harem or on the slave market, I’ve assumed they were both enslaved. Neither were free to leave. The costumes worn by Khoreva & Osipova appear identical, as does the choreography in these selections.

    • @felicity1877
      @felicity1877 2 роки тому +1

      @@conniemandler2001 Well, it is perhaps from Western view the same, but I think in exotic oriental view it is mostly also about rather women then trying to get the attention of the Pasha, with all the rivaly stuff in romantic ballets, just like La Peri, to be the favorite; In the Bolshoi reconstruction it is also that Gulnara manages to marry the Pasha at last (pretending to be Medora), whereas all other adapted Le Corsaire productions would rather allow Gulnara to run away (Mariinsky)- even if she would drown nevertheless in the storm (ENB, Scala, ?ABT)

      @@conniemandler2001 I'm western (actually European), too - it is just that I love ballet history and especially romantic ballets, and I also try to understand it from the historical and poetic background, and I also try to understand Swan Lake more like a romantic than a classic ballet.

    • @conniemandler2001
      @conniemandler2001 2 роки тому

      @@felicity1877 Yes. I also try to frame it within historical context. This morning, I was watching Sheherazade and I thought of our recent discussion. Again, I assume Sheherazade is enslaved, as are the others in the harem. When she sees her golden slave dead on the floor, she realizes her life is over and kills herself. Zobeide is his wife, but she is not free. The dancing is gorgeous.

    Maria Khoreva wins hands down. Second, Gillian Murphy. Third: Natalia Osipova. Maria Khoreva wins for technique, fluidity, upper body and arm movements, pliability and expression. Gillian Murphy did her triple pirouettes but fell out of them and has no fluidity, body pliability, or engagement. Natalia has issues with pointe and inserted a jumping trick that failed big time.

      @@АннаПетрунина-в2ф Le rispondo in italiano perché purtroppo non conosco la sua lingua. A me Murphy piace. Qui era molto giovane e si vedono molti difetti tecnici e molta insicurezza, però, secondo me, nel tempo è diventata un'artista molto brava, forse fra le poche ballerine americane in grado di recitare. Ovviamente è diversa dalle ballerine russe, ma credo che la danza possa essere eccellente anche al di fuori dalla Russia.
