  • The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

When you are done listening to these two apologists lie, here is the truth:
The Bible condones and commands chattel slavery.
Chattel slavery is defined as "the enslaving and owning of human beings and their offspring as property, able to be bought, sold, and forced to work without wages"
Another definition is: "The condition in which one person is owned as property by another and is under the owner's control, especially in involuntary servitude."
Leviticus 25 explicitly describes and condones chattel slavery.
"44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour."
Under Mosaic law, foreign slaves were chattel slaves. They could be bought, sold, separated from their families, beaten, raped, killed, kept for life, and passed down as inherited property. Every reference to foreign slaves in the Bible is to deny them rights and protections afforded to Hebrew slaves. The treatment of foreign slaves was every bit as bad, or worse, than slavery in the Antebellum south.

Exodus 34 New English Translation (NET Bible)
The New Tablets of the Covenant
34 [a] The Lord said to Moses, “Cut out[b] two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write[c] on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you smashed. 2 Be prepared[d] in the morning, and go up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and station yourself[e] for me there on the top of the mountain. 3 No one is to come up with you; do not let anyone be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks or the herds may graze in front of that mountain.” 4 So Moses[f] cut out two tablets of stone like the first;[g] early in the morning he went up[h] to Mount Sinai, just as the Lord had commanded him, and he took in his hand the two tablets of stone.
5 The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the Lord by name.[i] 6 The Lord passed by before him and proclaimed:[j] “The Lord, the Lord,[k] the compassionate and gracious[l] God, slow to anger,[m] and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness,[n] 7 keeping loyal love for thousands,[o] forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished, responding to the transgression[p] of fathers by dealing with children and children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.”
8 Moses quickly bowed[q] to the ground and worshiped 9 and said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, let my Lord[r] go among us, for we[s] are a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”
10 He said, “See, I am going to make[t] a covenant before all your people. I will do wonders such as have not been done[u] in all the earth, nor in any nation. All the people among whom you live will see the work of the Lord, for it is a fearful thing that I am doing with you.[v]
11 “Obey[w] what I am commanding you this day. I am going to drive out[x] before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 Be careful not to make[y] a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it becomes a snare[z] among you. 13 Rather you must destroy their altars, smash their images, and cut down their Asherah poles.[aa] 14 For you must not worship[ab] any other god,[ac] for the Lord, whose name[ad] is Jealous, is a jealous God. 15 Be careful[ae] not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when[af] they prostitute themselves[ag] to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone invites you,[ah] you will eat from his sacrifice; 16 and you then take[ai] his daughters for your sons, and when his daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will make your sons prostitute themselves to their gods as well. 17 You must not make yourselves molten gods.
18 “You must keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days[aj] you must eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you; do this[ak] at the appointed time of the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out of Egypt.
19 “Every firstborn of the womb[al] belongs to me, even every firstborn[am] of your cattle that is a male,[an] whether ox or sheep. 20 Now the firstling[ao] of a donkey you may redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then break its neck.[ap] You must redeem all the firstborn of your sons.
“No one will appear before me empty-handed.[aq]
21 “On six days[ar] you may labor, but on the seventh day you must rest;[as] even at the time of plowing and of harvest[at] you are to rest.[au]
22 “You must observe[av] the Feast of Weeks-the firstfruits of the harvest of wheat-and the Feast of Ingathering at the end[aw] of the year. 23 At three times[ax] in the year all your men[ay] must appear before the Sovereign Lord,[az] the God of Israel. 24 For I will drive out[ba] the nations before you and enlarge your borders; no one will covet[bb] your land when you go up[bc] to appear before the Lord your God three times[bd] in the year.
25 “You must not offer the blood of my sacrifice with yeast; the sacrifice from the feast of Passover must not remain until the following morning.[be]
26 “The first of the firstfruits of your soil you must bring to the house of the Lord your God.
“You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”[bf]
27 The Lord said to Moses, “Write down[bg] these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights;[bh] he did not eat bread, and he did not drink water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.[bi]

Shall we not be called hypocrites for being believers that beg and beseech and entreat unbelievers to think, when in actuality we won’t do the same.
They the unbelievers quite rightly question our doctrine of everlasting torment in hell for the opponents of God.
But if we, instead of thinking, along with taking into consideration all the scriptures that pertain to this subject of hell, simply conclude, sometimes with some gleeful satisfaction, that this is just the way it is, then surely we deserve to be despised by the atheists, don’t we, and deservedly so.
Let’s do some reasoning together with the scriptures in mind.
Firstly let’s be clear. Hell does exist. God prepared it for the devil and his angels.
And the unbelievers are to be sent there. This is an absolute certainly.
The scriptures say they will be there forever. This is also clear.
    So what’s the story?
    Ok here are some reasonings.
Firstly they never ever get out of Hell.
But could it be, that when they have done their time, they are burnt up, and there’s nothing left of them.
I’m not say this is the case.
However if it was the case it wouldn’t be contravening scripture, except for the scriptures that speaks of the smoke of their torment.
Revelation 14:11, KJV: "And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name."
To think clearly or be classed as a great thinker you need to be able to drop all bias and consider what others have to say.
Can you bear to consider Ellen White’s commentary of this subject? If so here it is.
    Hell & Eternal Torment
Did Ellen White believe in hell? She most certainly did. Numerous times in her writings she warned her readers that, "Every soul has a heaven to win, and a hell to shun."-Selected Messages, vol. 1, p. 96. And she believed in a literal hell, with literal fire and literal pain (Early Writings, p. 294). Repeatedly she quoted from Christ's parable of the sheep and the goats, that parable that spoke of the fires of hell, "prepared for the devil and his angels" (Mat. 25:41).
Yet despite Ellen White's firm, life-long belief in hell, she could not bring herself to deny the cardinal truth of the following well-known Bible verse:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
If only those who believe in Jesus have eternal life instead of perishing, how can unsaved sinners live eternally in hell without perishing? To Ellen White they could not, and for this reason, she agreed with the following from the apostle Paul:
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)
Thus hell is a place where sinners receive the just wages of their sins: eternal death rather than eternal life. And when would hell take place?
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (Mat. 13:39-42)
Ellen White therefore expected hell to be an event that takes place at the very end of the world, when God eradicates sin from the entire universe once and for all.
In contrast, it seemed to her that the idea of an eternally burning hell defeats the whole purpose of hell by perpetuating rather than exterminating sin. And besides, such a concept seems incompatible with the kindness of God:
How repugnant to every emotion of love and mercy, and even to our sense of justice, is the doctrine that the wicked dead are tormented with fire and brimstone in an eternally burning hell; that for the sins of a brief, earthly life they are to suffer torture as long as God shall live.-Great Controversy, p. 535.
In espousing such ideas, Ellen White was by no means alone. Take for instance the great theologian and hymn writer, Isaac Watts. Some of his well-known hymns include "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," "O God, Our Help in Ages Past," "Joy to the World, the Lord Is Come," "Before Jehovah's Awful Throne," and "Alas! and Did My Saviour Bleed." On the subject of hell he had this to say:
There is not one Place of Scripture that occurs to me, where the word Death, as it was first threatned in the Law of Innocency, necessarily signifies a certain miserable Immortality of the Soul, either to Adam, the actual sinner, or to his posterity.-The Ruin and Recovery of Mankind, p. 228, as quoted in Froom, Conditionalist Faith, vol. 2, p. 220.
And one might also mention the Confession of Faith ascribed to by 20,000 Baptists in England and presented to King Charles II in 1660:
The triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the Hypocrite but for a moment; though his Excellency mount up to the Heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds, yet shall hee perish for ever, like his own dung; they which have seen him, shall say, where is hee?-Froom, Conditionalist Faith, vol. 2, p. 141, italics in original.
The following quote from Ellen White about hell is one of her earlier ones, and it utilizes the words of such Bible passages as Obadiah 16:
But I saw that God would not shut them up in hell to endure endless misery, neither will He take them to heaven; for to bring them into the company of the pure and holy would make them exceedingly miserable. But He will destroy them utterly and cause them to be as if they had not been; then His justice will be satisfied. He formed man out of the dust of the earth, and the disobedient and unholy will be consumed by fire and return to dust again.-Early Writings, p. 221.
To Ellen White, all these concepts were rooted in the sacrifice of Christ upon Calvary:
The cross of Calvary, while it declares the law immutable, proclaims to the universe that the wages of sin is death. In the Saviour's expiring cry, "It is finished," the death knell of Satan was rung. The great controversy which had been so long in progress was then decided, and the final eradication of evil was made certain. The Son of God passed through the portals of the tomb, that "through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil." Hebrews 2:14. Lucifer's desire for self-exaltation had led him to say: "I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: . . . I will be like the Most High." God declares: "I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth, . . . and never shalt thou be any more." Isaiah 14:13, 14; Ezekiel 28:18, 19. When "the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; . . . . all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch." Malachi 4:1.-Great Controversy, pp. 503, 504.
To Ellen White, perishing in hell is not merely like dying in a burning house. Otherwise, Christians who were burned at the stake suffered the very same penalty as what their persecutors will suffer. Interestingly, she also taught that, while hell eventually ends for all, there will be degrees of punishment. Note the following quotation, with its heavy dependence upon Luke 12:47, 48 for biblical support.
In that day men will be dealt with according to the light they have received. He who knew his Lord's will, and did it not, will be beaten with many stripes; he who knew it not, yet committed things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. The number of talents expected will determine the returns expected. The sinner's guilt will be measured by the opportunities and privileges which he failed to improve. He will not be punished merely for his own rejection of the offer of salvation. He will be called to account for the influence he has exerted in encouraging others in sin.-Gospel Herald, Jan. 1, 1901.
Some think God is too kind too punish at all, but this was not the belief of Ellen White. To her, God's retributive justice is consistent with His character of love and mercy:
It is the glory of God to be merciful, full of forbearance, kindness, goodness, and truth. But the justice shown in punishing the sinner is as verily the glory of the Lord as is the manifestation of His mercy.-Review and Herald, Mar. 10, 1904.

Chattel slavery is defined as "the enslaving and owning of human beings and their offspring as property, able to be bought, sold, and forced to work without wages"

This has nothing to do with the video topic so please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a fellow Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant

27 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
What can we say about those days. Pretty rough huh.
They were rough times alright that’s for sure.
Especially if you were one of those unfortunate Philistines that inadvertently helped David get a wife.
However circumcision was painless for them as they
were dead to the pain because they were as dead as.
Was this evil like the evil of killing of Uriah?
    No apparently not.
The Philistines were their deadly enemies.
It was kill or be killed.
It was the way of things in those days.
These aren’t pretty but they are bible facts that we have to face.
If the Bible says it then let’s face it and deal with it.
The atheists can’t face the reality that their preference is for God to not exist.
This is hard for them to admit because it means they have to acknowledge that they don’t want to be super inferior to God.
This is understandably hard for them to do, so much so, that they invariably just can’t bring themselves to face it.
A believer might actually realise that we are to keep the sabbath on the 7th day, but like the atheist it’s too much for them.
    A loss of face.
A great loss of acceptance leaving the brethren and joining 7th day sabbath keepers on the sabbath.
And if the atheists are not going to be excused by God then why should God excuse believers who won’t obey.
    It goes like this.
We suffered the loss of the friendship of the world but we replaced it with a better friendship.
    Jesus Christ is our friend.
He is the best friend we could ever hope to have.
He is better than the best because He is the best.
If you are a pastor that knows the truth about the 7th day sabbath then here is a suggestion for you.
    Tell the people.
And have have church on both Saturday and Sunday.
There is something wrong with us if we have to get on our knees and pray to God asking if it’s necessary to keep His 10 commandments.

If someone says they don't believe in God and they don't want to obey Him, then they all must work every single day without a rest. That's how it works. If you don't want the hard things, don't want the good things either.
So don't "celebrate" one day by not working. You can work until you die as a slave who works 24/7. That's the way.

Good question. Let's read a few verses on what the _Bible actually says_ on slavery:
"If a man beats his servant with a rod...and he remains alive a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property." (Exodus 21:20-21)
"-From the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves. Moreover you may buy the children of the strangers who sojourn among you...and they shall become your property...your permanent slaves." (Leviticus 25:44-46)
"And that servant who knew his master's will and did not...do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes." (Jesus Himself in Luke 12:47)
    The answer is obvious.

Nice Pivot Cliffe. Here's what your Jesus had to say about slavery: Luke 12: 47 "The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows." (Of course I don't believe he said any of this. The gospels are not eye witness accounts nor are they history. I'm just playing your game). In the parables JC uses the more graphic aspects of slavery to make his theological points thus implying that he had no illusions about the violent and unjust nature of the thing, yet he never condemns the practice nor does he outlaw it outright which if you stop and think about it would have spared millions of people a lot of misery and suffering and needless death, and did I mention, confusion? (Oh Thank You Jesus.) So you can pivot and preach to the easily distracted but the very "Jesus" who appeals to our consciences seems to lack the ethical conviction to do the sort of right thing he demands of his followers, on threat of punishment no less. So convoluted.

    • @9432515

Where do you see the word own? Or what denotes own? Lev25 says possession...some translations use property. Possession and property don’t automatically mean full control legal right as in ownership. Look it up. Ownership vs possession, legal definition are detailed.
You finance a car by debt contract..you drive off the lot. It’s your property but by possession only. The bank owns it and can REpossess it if delinquent. This isn’t private property as the Western mindset views it. Full control legal right over land is the west. Ask any Native American. The land is a possession or property but only by presence and use. God told the Hebrews go in and take the land as a possession. Same exact word used all over lev25. They don’t own the land v23, God does and has put many stipulations over it..the Jubilee, the sabbath year release...they were kicked off that land many times only to be brought back in 1948 fir His name sake alone. It has zero to do with them it says, Ezk36-38. Had a bumper crop on the seventh year?? Too bad let it fall. Someone owed you on the 49th year a great sum?? Too bad it is released. God had full control over the land and the Hebrews had very little...presence and use alone. They had very little over these Gentiles too. Same exact word used, ahuzza. It’s not slavery. Slavery is ownership of another as property. This isn’t that at all. Indentured servants were bought, sold, traded and inherited too. That’s a fact. Look it up. And that’s why you see debt debt debt all throughout scripture. Many examples of servants being freed after their debt paid off. Christ paid the price for all in bondage.. debt bondage.. and set them free physically and spiritually. The Jubilee is nothing more than debt cancellation. Debt is voluntary choice. God’s not the slave master and the Redeemer at the same time! It’s ridiculous, incompatible. The Gentiles ARE the intent of God..no tribalism of Hebrews going on. Christ given to the world is God given to the Gentiles. It’s get out of the forced relationship with the devil and get into God’s by choice. The title is a marriage proposal. Choice.
And no...there’s no license to beat anyone.
Back up two verses to find out what the ‘no punishment’ is referring to. Ex21.18&19 deal with the non servant assaulted by an apostate Hebrew. The Hebrew has to pay all medical, room and board, and any lost wages til thoroughly healed it says. Verses 20&21 deal with the servant this time. The apostate Hebrew assaulting a servant has ‘no punishment’ no monetary fines...because he’s already paying all medical, room and board, and any lost wages are his. He’s his money it says, investment. Kjv. Exodus 21 is referencing the avenging laws...death for death or blemish for blemish and everything in between it says, lev24.17-22. And yes...it says any human is protected by these laws. Lev19.34 confirms the Gentile bond servant is definitely included. Pay back in equal...PLUS they are redeemed of all debt and sent home. There’s no license to beat anyone.

The desperation here is breathtaking. Read your own book. Leviticus 25 says you can BUY slaves from the nations around you, also buy temporary residents among you. So we're clearly not talking about indentured servitude, in which a critical element is that the servitude lasts for a specified period of time, whereas In Leviticus you can bequeath them to your children as inherited property.
Just be honest and admit the truth of it.
It never fails to bemuse me watching Christians falling over backwards to try and weasel their way out of it. ANYTHING but admit that your book says some truly horrific stuff. Would you like to be a slave under the terms of Exodus 21, where your master can beat you without punishment as long as you don't die within a few days? You realise how badly beaten you could be? Would you be happy with that?
Or are you going to try and weasel your way out of that too?

Or really? The fact is..indentured servants were bought, sold, traded and inherited too. Look that up. It says you MAY buy Hebrews in Ex21.2 and that you seem to agree is indentured servitude. Why when you read lev25 is it automatically full out slavery? It says you MAY buy and CAN bequeath permanently. So? That’s just choice and if it is DEBT (which you do see throughout scripture) then it is indentured servitude of the Gentiles.
Lev25.44-46 says possession not ownership. Where do you see own? Slavery is ownership of another as property. Property is by owner AND property is by mere possession alone. Ownership vs possession. Look it up, legal definition. Or just use the Bible to determine what possession is. Same exact word used..when God said go in and take the land as a possession? That same word is used in lev25.44-46. Strong's H272 - 'ăḥuzzâ. They don’t own that land, God does v23...and they don’t own the Gentiles. It’s not slavery. Indentured servants were bought, sold, traded and inherited too. They were skilled labor

More desperate nonsense. It's difficult to know where to start, but it's instructive to see that you didn't reply as to whether you'd be happy to be a slave under the terms of Exodus 21, where I can beat you without punishment as long as you don't die within a few days. Would you be happy with that?
Secondly, the main difference between ownership and possession is custody. If I'm buying a car on hire purchase, I would possess the car and have custody of it and would probably say I own it, but, legally speaking (depending on the wording of the contract) the finance company would stlll own it. In the case of slavery, who is the third party? The slave owner both owns AND possesses and has custody of the slave.
Thirdly, yes, you MAY buy slaves and you CAN pass them on (AS PROPERTY), and there is an element of choice involved, but it's your choice as the slave owner, not the slave's choice.
Fourthly, if you buy a slave from the nations around you, where does the question of debt come into the picture? We're talking of a foreigner with whom you've had no previous dealings and will clearly not owe you a debt he or she is trying to pay off by offering him/herself to you as an indentured servant.
Why can't you just be honest? The problem is that you (as with a Muslim and the Quran) come into the discussion believing that your book can't be wrong, so you have to find ways to justify it. If your god truly believed that owning another human being is wrong, and is blessed with omniscience (and hence knows that this issue was going to result in a massive problem for his followers) why didn't he just come out and say, don't do it.
But please carry on. I do enjoy seeing people tying themselves up in knots trying to defend the indefensible. This is almost as much fun as arguing with Muslims who claim there is proof of scientific claims in the Quran.
And don't get me started on the Bible Codes!

This video completely ignores the question of does the bible promote racism and slavery. For some people modern day "slavery" is different than biblical slavery. Okay, call it servitude if you wish. Is it morally right to own another human as property? Is it moral to beat them as long as they don't die? Is it moral that their children become the property of the master? These are the exact things that happened with modern day slavery, christians just call it indentured servitude in the bible. Why were Hebrew servants not treated the same as other servants? They couldn't be abused, eye for an eye. Why were they let go after their service? This is why people call the bible racist. Hebrews got better treatment under the law than foreigners did. If you think owning another person is moral, then I'm glad mankind made laws to prevent you from following "gods law." So you can quote MLK and beat around the bush, but the bible absolutely allowed for slavery (forced lifelong servitude) and racism.

I hope you read your bible yourself and not just look up tiktoks and youtube videos of people supporting your idea. The God made an agreement with the Israelites and the Hebrews. They agreed to be God's chosen people. God therefore sent Moses to set them free from slavery. Over 2 million slaved were freed from the worlds most oppressive empire. God does not condone whatever "slavery" was being promoted in Egypt. You are contradicting yourself.
"For some people modern day "slavery" is different than biblical slavery." No, it's fact. American slavery was one of the most brutal advancements of slavery ever. Modern day slavery is atrocious compared to Biblical slavery, that's just a fact. Even American slaves would admit it back then. If you don't want to believe that, then that's on you for not wanting to believe it and I can respect that. Biblical slavery was not always agriculture, it was a mixture and more comparable to chores. It was nothing like America where they were treated like cattle and just downright animals. If a slave was beaten then it was because they were probably incredibly stupid and deserved to have sense knocked into them. If they were KILLED for it, INTENSIONALLY KILLED- then the master would be punished by death. If the slave died by accident, meaning the slave owner did not intend for the slave to die, then it was punishment enough that the slave owner lost their slave by reacting stupid. In God's system, slaves were to be treated like family. Like brothers and sisters and equals. With respect.
The Bible doesnt say "yeah if u beat ur slaves thats sick keep at it" its saying that theyre basically punishing themselves for it. By beating their worker for no reason, they lost a worker. Meaning they lose their money. They basically punished themselves by doing something so ridiculously dumb.
Also many were given the option to leave after their debts were paid but many chose to stay because- like God's plan- it was like a family more than anything. If you were to choose living in the roman or egyptian empire as homeless, with nothing to your name- as a newly freed slave! completely vulnerable! - or living as a slave, with a family who went according to God's word and treated you like family- protected and took care of you- which would you choose to survive? The answer I hope is obvious. Cultures are vastly different and sometimes that difficult for people to wrap their heads around, that things could have had a much different meaning back then compared to now, but its just fact. Languages change over time the same way definitions of words change over time.

      1. Slavery:
People love to claim that the Bible supports slavery. The Bible actually had one point where God told the Israelites that it was not forbidden for them to have slaves. The problem is that only a handful of people know this, and most think the whole Bible is about depriving different groups and races of their human rights.
Firstly, Leviticus 25:44-46 says that the Israelites could have had bondmen (slaves) from surrounding lands. The Bible doesn't say that "you have to buy people to work them," but says that "you can have slaves."
But the next verses are completely ignored for some reason: "And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family..."
That's the point. How can a slave be rich? How can an Israelite become poor while a stranger, a slave, becomes rich? The answer is that the Bible doesn't talk about slaves as people today talk about slaves.
Slavery means nowadays: the slave doesn't have rights, can be beaten to death, has no wages for their work, etc.
The Bible says: if you beat your slave to death, you have to be put to death. You have to pay the wages on the day they work to let them eat that day, and you should never wait for the next day. Isralites were slaves, too, before God freed them from Egypt, and He continually reminded them they were slaves, too, and they must not have forgotten that, so they had to feel empathy towards slaves.
Secondly, Exodus 21:16 says, "And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death."
If you kidnap someone and you want to sell someone (as a slave), you have to die. It concerns every nation and every person. You can't force anyone to be a slave. That's a sin because you take away their freedom.
Jeremiah 34:10-18 (I suspect you wouldn't read the whole section, but you can freely read them if you want.) God made a covenant with the Isralites on the day when they were freed from Egypt, saying that when their servants' years of work pass, they must let them go free. Although the new generations didn't want to let them go free. After they freed them, they went after the servants and brought them back to work. The Lord said, "You polluted my name with your acts," and the Lord punished Israel for this. He let die by sword, pestilence, and famine. God even gave the princes and priests into the hands of their enemies, letting them be humiliated and killed.
1 Timothy 1:10 "For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;..."
As you see, Paul listed "menstealers" or kidnappers among the worst sinners.
So they could have slaves, but not in the modern view or the false Christian view, and you can't force anyone to be a slave.
      2. New Covenant:
There were many things in the Old Testament left behind after Jesus Christ died on the cross, for example, the animal sacrifices.
Matthew 26:28 "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
Mark 14:24 "And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many."
Jesus Christ made a new covenant with the world with His blood.
Matthew's 5th chapter is all about this when Jesus talked about the heard teachings, like: "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
Or "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
There were many teachings like these. As Jesus said, He came to suffer and die for the entire world, and He didn't make an exception at all.
Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
John 8:34 "Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin."
So we're all slaves to sin, but are redeemed by the blood of Christ.
      3. Races:
The accepted view today is evolutionary theory. Charles Darwin contributed a lot to the formation of this theory, which is still just a theory.
When people complain about racism and slavery, they need to accept that these two are one. "Lower" races were treated badly in our history.
In the past, before Darwin, only hypocrites treated others badly and used the Bible as proof that their actions were fair or accepted. The Bible clearly says that if you judge others, you will be judged; if you hate your brother, you shall be in the fire of hell; treat others how you want to be treated.
I can say that I'm Chinese, but in reality I'm not. Many people can say that they're Chinese, and if we're not likeable to others because of our actions, they will have a negative opinion about us as Chinese people. In the very same way, Christians who killed in God's name or treated slaves the way they treated them were not even Christians. God punished Israel several times for actions like this because they polluted the name of the Lord this way.
The problem is that Darwin's theory created a view in people of being different when he convinced the world that we evolved out of apes and always the strongest survived. People accepted that they were evolved apes instead of accepting God's moral laws. The theory of evolution brought a view that says that we're different and every ethnicity comes from different places.
"Biological arguments for racism may have been common before 1859, but they increased by orders of magnitude following the acceptance of evolutionary theory." - Stephen Jay Gould, a leading evolutionist (Ontogeny and Phylogeny, 1977) The thought of evolution inspired a new form of racism, while God's words are clear:
Acts 17:26 "And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth..."
Romans 10:12 "For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him."
1 Samuel 16:7 "But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."
Can we be more clear? The Bible says that the Lord doesn't look at our appearance. Instead, we are of the same blood and come from the same place. The Bible doesn't even have the word "race," nor does it refer to it. But it basically describes us as one single race: the human race.
      4. Slavery and abortion:
People tend to think in a more and more wide circle that abortion is a basic human right, while slavery is the opposite of it. It comes from ungodly thinking, because the truth is that both of them are about destroying humans.
Abortion is not a choice. A choice is: "Do you want coffee or tea?" But if a human is in a woman's body, then it's not a choice anymore; it's a life.
I don't want to get off topic too much because I just brought it up to let you see that people who rely on their own moral laws fail in this. Why is slavery bad while abortion is acceptable? Abortion is even worse here than slavery because abortion is murder.
So, we need to know and obey God's moral laws instead of our own, which results in treating people badly and living an ungodly life.

@@bscroll Leviticus 25:47 the next verses are ignored because they aren't talking about rich slaves at all. It says if a foreigner (not slave) becomes rich and Israelites sell themselves to that foreigner, they may be redeemed. Not every foreigner living among the Israelites were slaves. You realize that right? Besides, how can someone sell themselves to a slave? Makes no sense. The point is, you just made that up.
Israelite slaves had those rights, foreign slaves had less rights. You could beat your foreign slaves as long as they didn't die Exodus 21 20-21. However, you could not be ruthless like this to your Israelite slaves, Leviticus 25:46. It also wasn't an eye for an eye and tooth for tooth for slaves.
How nice of god to have a double standard for foreign/Israelite slaves right?
Exodus 21:16 may say that you can't steal people and enslave them, but that doesn't matter when god gave Israelites a loophole like Deuteronomy 20:11,
"If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor."
God had them going around to other villages and either forcing them to servitude for life to Israel or the israelites killed everyone. Not much of a choice. That is sanctioned kidnapping/forced labor/genocide. If you would just critically think this through, you would easily understand why biblical scholars overwhelmingly agree the bible supported chattel slavery.
Jeremiah 34: 10-18 is god telling Hebrews that they have to LET HEBREW SLAVES GO FREE after a certain time has passed. It is not talking about foreign slaves. If you're right, then god was lying in either Jeremiah or Leviticus. Take your pick. Need I remind you of Leviticus 25:46 AGAIN...
"You can bequeath them (slaves) to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves FOR LIFE, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."
That passage is literally saying the treatment of foreign slaves was ruthless and to not be that way towards your fellow israelite. See that double standard again? Israelite slaves were to be let go after a time, but foreign slaves were for life. For someone who accuses me of not reading all the texts and not understanding, you have no idea what you're talking about. Your hypocrisy is just sad. After going through your slavery arguments, I am not impressed and I highly doubt your other arguments are any better. So I'm going to end it here and maybe get to them tomorrow if at all.

Here to prove you wrong by using The Scriptures once again. Hello this is for all you Atheists, unbelievers and skeptics. I'm going to address a few misconceptions and lies about God's Character and His Word. The Bible doesn't support chattel slavery or anything else Immoral. Ok so Atheists and unbelievers say God is either Immoral, incompetent or not responsible so let's see what The Scriptures actually say. God revealed himself and created a nation in a real, historical context. It was a world with a slave-based economy, with city states often at war with each other, with polygamous marriages to ensure the continuation of family lines. The laws of the Old Testament regulate this behaviour. Slaves are to be treated humanely (Exodus 21:11). They are given rights and not seen as mere possessions. Hebrew slaves were able to buy their own freedom. Human trafficking is condemned (Exodus 21:16). In contrast to the law code of Babylon, Old Testament Israel was a light to the nations. The Old Testament law and narratives do not stand alone. Jesus is now the best example of what we read. So the moral teaching of the Bible cannot be summarised by a quote taken out of context from the Old Testament to demonize God and His Word. Slavery was permitted in Old Testament law but it was regulated by God giving the Israelites instructions on how to fairly and humanely treat their slaves (it was like indentured servitude where someone could work for you if they owed debts or needed income not cruel like chattel slavery). God allowed the people of Israel to own slaves since they themselves has already experienced over 400 years of generations of Egyptian slavery and knew how inhumane it was to be beaten, overworked and taxed so God set them apart from other nations and cultures around them by giving them a fair way to treat their slaves since slavery had already existed in the world but it doesn't mean God condoned it just used it for His Will to bring Good And in the light of the whole scriptural teaching, we find the reasons for its ultimate abolition (Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 4:1-3; Philemon 15-16 and Galatians 3:28). The Word of God provided the moral standard against slavery in the Roman Empire and against the slave trade in the New World.
But what of genocide or holy war in the book of Joshua? Several things could be pointed out. The use of warfare in the ancient world did not always mean literal total destruction, even when events are described in such terms. Furthermore, the book of Joshua does not describe a genocide. It is not a race who are being wiped out, as in genocide, but a religious practice which was often appalling and degrading. Those who repent (like Rahab from Jericho or Ruth) are not destroyed but become part of Israel. It is not the racial group that is in view but their "detestable practices".
However, after all is said, we must still acknowledge that God brought judgment on the nations of Canaan. It is not our place as believers isn't to sugar-coat the Bible. For some skeptics, this is enough to make God a moral monster. But the fact is that Jesus continued to affirm that God is a Judge who will bring a future judgment on all peoples and all nations. God’s judgment will be just. The list of Old Testament stories rejected by critics often leads to a similar dismissal of the New Testament teaching of Jesus on the existence of hell.
After all, what was the Flood of Genesis or the conquest of Joshua if not a glimpse of future judgment? Hell does not demonstrate cruelty on God’s part, but it does demonstrate His Holiness and our moral accountability. Perhaps this is the real reason many people rail against the God of the Bible? It is not that they think He is a moral monster, but that they are afraid He is a moral Judge, and that has implications for our behaviour now. God is an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being and we as His creatures have Eternal souls and spirits so the punishment for our sins against Him must therefore also be Eternal but so must the reward for righteousness that's why He sent His Son Jesus to live a perfectly righteous and sinless Life (which none of us could ever possibly expect to do) suffer the humiliating and torturous death of crucifixion to shed His Own Blood willingly so that all who willingly accept His gift of salvation by grace through faith in Him will be saved and given Eternal life because that's what God wants is for us to willingly accept His gift of salvation and choose life. Exodus 21:20-21 literally speaks about capital punishment befalling anyone who mistreats their slaves so yes people are taking Scripture out of context to demonize God who literally promises that slaves who are mistreated under someone else's authority is to be avenged. When we hear the word “slavery” we think of innocent human beings, kept prisoner for life, having no rights under law and so reduced to animals. This is clearly immoral because it is unjust: the slave has done nothing to deserve the treatment.
The situation described as “slavery” in the Bible was nothing like this. It is more accurately described as one of indentured servitude. Many “slaves” were indentured servants, working for a term of years
Some other “slaves” were prisoners. There were no prisons. Prisoners had to work to live like everyone else. Some had life sentences. Some served a term and were released.
People didn't beat their good slaves but treated them well and protected their assets thus.
But no matter how rebellious a slave was, you couldn't just beat them to death. And if you knocked out their tooth or damaged their eye then you had to set them free. (Exodus 21:26). God wasn't using what other nations did because He wanted to set His Chosen People of Israel apart from the cruel, inhumane and unjust systems other cultures had so He gave them a fair way to treat their slaves and servants.
There is a lot of ignorance on this topic which is understandable given the age we live in but it's not the nefarious set up we think of when we think of modern slavery.
