For future reference ratchet strap the car to the hoist so it doesn't move while jacking up springs to do up stub axles

Dig the vibe of this car fellas. One idea: if you’re keen to get viewers to give feedback on what might be assembled wrong, be sure to give a well lit panning shot of everything after it’s put back together so the ppl who know these suspension and steering systems have something to inspect on slow-mo. I’ve never worked on one of these, being in Florida, but I’m sure somebody out there can assist if you give them clear angles and lighting. Love the cars, looking forward to seeing your econobox on air-ride back on here someday.

True mate! Sometimes you can look straight at it and say "there's your problem" other times it is only when you step back and take a long look you notice where you stuffed up.
Just don't forget everyone who has ever worked on a car has done it at least once, coin the saying "it happens to the best of us"

Great work, but you really need to use anti-sieze or some copper grease on your threads....it will thank you later

Great content guys! It just reminds me of the old days putting Holdens together with mates. All I wanted to do was jump through the screen to help with the work!

I can almost promise you hg disc and hq disc stub axles are identical as i pretty sure they had the same factory part number the only different is the stub axles were swapped over left to right and right to left meaning hq runs the forward caliper like you have and hg caliper is mounted rearward 👍

26:45 I don't know where else it's from, but I know it as a line from the song "Closing Time" by Semisonic from the late 90's. Yes, I am that old.

The rear leaf spring have small spaces so it compresses the rubber evenly, my HG (and its a red one Cam) has two spaces either side, thickness of about 5mm 3/16" as per the original manual. Depending on model and diff this can vary,

You got new hq rotors, why didn't you just get blank rotors and get them drilled to hg??????
    Hoppers Stoppers do them

Aren’t those stub axles upside down boys? That’s why it’s so high instead of lower?

  • @andrewbeaty1020
    @andrewbeaty1020 Рік тому

As others have already mentioned, the hq stubs are same part as hktg disk stub just on opposite side.
The rear springs should have spacer plates between the diff mounts and u bolts arent a bad idea as they were known to crack the diff mount.
An easier way to compress the front springs is with some all thread through the shocker mounts with some decent washers.

I just paused the video I was positive the fuel tank dropped in the boot, but not 100% sure just thinking the silicone will be a hard clean up

Great vid as always. When I fit front brakes i put the Inner bearing into the disc, knock the seal in then slide the disc onto the spindle. Good luck for the opening, sorry I won't be able to make it.

If you want to really improve the steering quality, brace the steering box. Makes a great difference.

Hk ht hg disc stub axles are the same exact stub axles as Hq, just used on opposite sides. Part numbers are the same. They will not change ride height.
Also the rear spring saddle has spacers to set the squish on the rubber bushes. There shouldn’t be a gap
