  • In this video I have a look at a customers GMC Yukon Denali with the big 6.2 that was towed in for a no start not crank. I have seen this enough times it's just as easy to take a guess rather than busting out the tools. Not to mention we already did a video on one of these.
    -Enjoy!
UPDATE: Customer had me bypass the connector and throw away the module and the battery light went out after tightening up the positive terminal. I just had it resting on there when I went out in the lot to bring it in. Now he can go get a sticker on it and get it on the road 🙄

Years ago, I can remember back in the 1960's and 1970s, here in The Great Industrial Northeast, you would get about three years before rust started poking its way out of your nice new shiny car paint.
Now, with stainless steel exhaust systems, anti corrosion paints, galvanized metal, and plastics, you can get about eight years before the rust starts showing itself.

I had a buddy Tom who was an appliance repair guy. I called him about my dryer not working. He asked me the make and I told him. He said the wire for the door switch fell and was rubbing on the drum and wore it in half. I thought he was nuts until he came over and showed me. Said it's common with this brand. Lots of years in the business. Great diagnosis.

Not defending GM, cause I would never buy one anymore either. But the reality is all car in NYS will end up like this if you don't wash the underside regularly or get it oil sprayed. New York state dumps a ridiculous amount of rock salt on the roads because it is very cheap there. Livingston County, New York, location of American Rock Salt, the largest operating salt mine in the United States with a capacity for producing up to 18,000 tons each day. And the government instead of taxing customers to use less destructive ice management methods would just rather pass that cost on to the customer through rotting their car out in 10 years and the people of NYS just accept it.

When you think about it a doctor is no different than a repair technician. They both use their training and education, diagnostic tools, and experience to make a diagnosis (best guess) of whats wrong and how to remedy. A good doctor does this, same with a top mechanic. The best do it more often than others. So my son, it's not a lucky guess. It's your experience and education that came up with the answer. Bask in the knowledge that you were right and made money, that's when it all pays off. Very satisfying video, my admiration of your skills went up another notch.

When you've seen it before, and your right, patch it up and back it out. Such a shame with all that rust and rot. Time for "pick-u-part" or what ever you have there.
Good Quick one Mr. O. Nice to see Mrs. O.

I have a 53" International 2 Ton dump truck (grain truck) and it's frame is still immaculate. I've never seen rust as bad as this here in Oklahoma-- never. You might see the occasional rust hole in a rocker panel or around the fenders etc- on a 1970's or 80's pickup.. But otherwise, rust doesn't really exist; once the steel gets a paint job, it typically lasts virtually forever. I don't see how you guys deal with it. I couldn't image buying a brand new truck knowing that it probably won't last 10 years. smh.. That's just insane. I've always bought vehicles that have 150k to 170k miles-- and THEN I drive them for 10 more years after that, and run them past 300k. So IDK-- You guys are a different breed accepting this kind of wealth drain. I can't wrap my head around it.

Older cars and trucks rot we didn't have problems with electricity, usually the cradle would just fall apart or a control arm would be a crunchy mess. The floors would change into Flintstones floors.

What's really sad is somewhere, somebody is prepared to put a sticker on it and then the death trap will be on the road. The issue being the danger to another road user if it lets go.

That shows the state is only concerned with one thing and it isn't your safety or 'the environment'... as they say. The only thing they're interested in is the $$$.

Eric, it would be very beneficial for your viewers to see the difference between a car like this and one that has had an oil treatment every 1-2 years. Obviously, they are a lot rarer but to see the difference, even in 2 different cars, would be very helpful.

I think he has shown that in the past couple of years or so. He even fluid films his vehicles and while it may not stop the rust, but it'll slow it down a fair amount to prolong its life before it becomes scrap.
